Frank is joined by Kyle and Scott for a packed roundtable on Gamescom highlights, World of Warcraft Midnight reveals, and a friendly debate on brand events versus trade shows. The crew breaks down Hollow Knight Silksong hype, Fallout Season 2's New Vegas vibe, a surprise standout in Lego Batman, and how Blizzard's housing and three raids at launch could reshape the way we play. They wrap with network updates and weekly recommendations. Timestamps and Topics 00:00: Introduction and panel lineup 00:30: Question of the week — fictional foods from pop culture 03:01: News of the week — Gamescom overview 03:37: Hollow Knight Silksong release window and gameplay hopes 06:02: Warhammer 40K love plus Dawn of War memories 08:16: Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines 2 concerns, design shift, and dev changes 15:56: Resident Evil 9 trailer reactions and expectations 16:57: Fallout Season 2 trailer — New Vegas sights and more of The Ghoul 18:24: Lego Batman Legacy of the Dark Knight looks like a true Arkham style entry 20:34: World of Warcraft Midnight cinematic first reactions — Silvermoon, Lor'themar, Zalatath 26:31: Who were the light aligned warriors and how that reveal could have landed 30:15: Midnight features — three raids at launch, eight dungeons, delves, prey system, outdoor play 31:45: Why multiple smaller raids can help modern raiders 34:19: Where each host plans to spend time — raiding, delving, housing 35:30: Player housing deep dive — free placement, neighborhoods, profession recipes in old zones 41:49: Professions and transmog updates make old content matter again 42:49: Demon Hunter Devourer spec talk and leveling plans 46:23: Built in raid tools and quality of life changes 46:41: Brand events versus trade shows — BlizzCon immersion or Gamescom reach 55:14: How activations bridge both worlds and keep hype alive 58:02: What Blizzard could do next and a brainstorm on venue layout 01:04:18: Network news — Challenge Accepted updates and more from the Geek Freaks crew 01:06:07: Weekly recommendations — Hollow Knight, Dawn of War, Cowboys doc 01:13:47: Sign off Key Takeaways Hollow Knight Silksong finally feels real with fresh footage and a near term release window that has fans buzzing. Fallout Season 2 leans into New Vegas energy and looks ready to give Walton Goggins even more to chew on. Lego Batman Legacy of the Dark Knight plays like a full Arkham style experience in a lighter package. World of Warcraft Midnight lands with a striking Silvermoon set piece and a clear villain in Zalatath while sparking questions about the light aligned reinforcements. Midnight launches with three raids, eight dungeons, delves, and a prey system that targets you in the open world for dynamic encounters. Housing is fully free form with place anywhere decoration, neighborhood vibes, and recipes scattered across old zones and dungeons, which brings back legacy professions and exploration. Built in raid tools and UI polish aim to raise the floor for everyone, not just add on users. Brand owned shows like BlizzCon deliver clarity, atmosphere, and community rituals. Trade shows give reach and variety but can dilute focus. Memorable Quotes “Hollow Knight Silksong got a release date. I am beyond excited.” “Lego Batman is straight up a new Arkham game. Who knew that would be the most complete Batman experience.” “Lor'themar finally got his moment to be the badass I always wanted him to be.” “Three raids at launch is a return to a cadence that actually fits how people play now.” “Housing should pull you back into old Azeroth and make those zones feel alive again.” Call to Action Enjoyed the episode? Surviving the Horror - Episode 16: Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse

Hello one and all, and welcome back to another episode of Surviving the Horror! This month Josh and Colin got the chance to sit down and play a horror franchise that has somehow eluded them for years at this point, that being Fatal Frame. Fatal Frame is a franchise that you hear about in the same breaths as things like Silent Hill, Resident Evil, and other staples of the genre. Taking place firmly in the realm of Japan , and touching regularly on things like Japanese folklore and rituals, Fatal Frame aims to try something different in survival horror. The problem is that many of these titles (Fatal Frame 1-3 specifically) are locked on older hardware and not accessible on modern day consoles. As a result, Josh and Colin decided to make their first foray into the franchise with Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse. Originally released exclusively in Japan for the Wii in 2008, Mask of the Lunar Eclipse finally received its remaster and port to the West in 2023, selling 120,000 copies in just a few short weeks on the market. While that may not sound like much, when you consider that the franchise as a whole across all five games only has 1.3 million units sold, the success of recent games like Mask of the Lunar Eclipse and Maiden of Blackwater becomes more apparent. Mask of the Lunar Eclipse is also the only game in the franchise to stand alone in its story elements, making it a great jumping in point for newcomers to the series like us. Mask of the Lunar Eclipse tells the tale of (primarily) three characters in Misaki, Ruka, and Choshiro as they explore the Haibara Infirmary on Rougetsu Isle. Rougetsu Isle is known for its ancient tradition of performing the Rougetsu Kagura, a ritual in which the liminal space between the the souls of the living and dead is opened in conjunction with the phases of the moon. Several years ago, this ritual goes wrong (who could have guessed) and The Day of Tranquility ensues; resulting in the loss of several lives, and the loss of our main characters' memories. It's our job then as Misaki, Ruka, and Choshiro to return to Rougetsu Isle and try to unravel the mystery of what happened, restore our memories, and ultimately free the souls of those trapped between the realm of the living and the dead. Thank you for listening, and we hope you enjoy! Next month's episode will be on a smaller 2D pixelated horror game called Dead of Darkness. Thanks again!

Sony is a many-tendrilled corporation, which can be both a blessing and a curse. But in fully leveraging all that the wider company does well, it seems they're closer than ever to achieving the "One Sony" goal from years and decades past. Enter Physint (sometimes typed PHYSINT, for some reason), a Hideo Kojima-led project revealed last year as a mysterious cross-pollination between PlayStation and Sony Pictures, one that appears to go into a distinctly Metal Gear Solid-like direction. With Death Stranding 2 now in the past, Kojima is confirmed to be working on Physint itself, presumably for PlayStation 6, which raises some questions, like: What will the game be like? When will it come out? Will it be a commercial success? We know so little about it, and yet, that's never stopped us before, so why start now? Plus: Arrowhead rather blatantly teases a Helldivers 2/Halo crossover, Strauss Zelnick expresses confidence in GTA6's Spring '26 release window and promises that BioShock 4 will indeed launch one day, rumors percolate about upcoming Resident Evil remakes, Crimson Desert gets delayed, PUBG is the next game to reveal it's leaving PlayStation 4 behind, and more. Then: Listener inquiries! What's the best stoner game? Are people overreacting to recent PlayStation executives' chatter about moving away from hardware? Is Danganronpa actually bad? This week, Matt and Bob are joined by returning guest Spenser Davis to break down Zach Cregger's Weapons—one of the year's most talked-about horror releases. The trio dig into: How Weapons blends horror, comedy, and social commentary. The Magnolia-style chapter structure—and whether it works or stalls. Memorable moments: from hot dog trays to the film's most brutal death. The allegories beneath the scares—addiction, failed institutions, and the American suburban nightmare. Aunt Gladys as one of horror's most unsettling new villains. Along the way, they compare Weapons to Barbarian, debate the value of metaphors and Easter eggs, and even wander into Resident Evil and Oscar predictions. It's a deep dive into why Cregger has cemented himself as one of the most exciting genre voices working today.

SPOILER ALERT!!! AS WITH ALL SPECIAL EDITIONS WE HAVE A LOT TO SAY AND SAY IT ALLHorror movies have ramped up their marketing efforts in recent years. Weapons is the latest example. The movie created a website, released two hour security cam footage, along with traditional tactics like an awesome poster and excellent trailer. The end result? It exceeded box office expectations.Where does Zach Cregger stand among current horror directors? There is a very strong argument that he is the best at mixing horror and humor. And this includes the Winters and Osgood Perkins. Along with being satisfying, the ending of Weapons is one of the funniest of the year. The major twist comes well before the final moments. How much people enjoy the twist will also determine how much they like the film. More so than any other movie in recent memory. It will be the point of return for everyone who watches it. For some, Weapons will not be able to do any wrong; for others it will be a complete turnoff.Non-linear storytelling is very tricky to pull off. Not only can it disorient the audience, but it can open things up to plot holes. We talk about one possible issue with Weapons and another nitpick. We also debate how effectively Weapons told its story.Whatever a person's final opinion on Weapons, there is no denying the amazing performances. There has been a shift the past few years, but horror tends to get ignored around awards season. It may not end up getting nominated for anything, but it would be surprising if some names from Cregger's release are not thrown around. One character will definitely be an inspiration for Halloween. What does the success of another original movie IP mean for horror movies in the future? Obviously, franchises and Stephen King adaptations are not going to end; they are the lifeblood of the genre. But will studios be willing to take more risks on new properties? In what can be described as one of the last canonical spin offs in the Resident Evil series, Revelations 2 is now a decade old - so what better opportunity to return to this hellish island and see how this early PS4/Xbox One title holds up 10 years later.  A known favourite game of George Trevor and most of the team as a whole with credit often being given for bringing horror back to the series. Can Neptune finally get to grips with the controller lay out and does the once fancy episodic release structure actually hinder it in today's market? We look back on this quirky and often campy/b-movie title to see if we can recommend it to new and old players alike. Meanwhile the news is dominated by some non-canon up and comings with Survival Unit and Resident Evil 2: Dead Shot. Enjoy.

Update of the Week: Andy talks about The Coldplay Concert incident bringing an affair to light from a CEO of a major corporation Andy discusses Goldberg's retirement match on Saturday Night Main Event and how it didn't quite live up to expectations and was not the best way to go out, considering his fairly long career in the sport. Daniel talks about watching Superman at the theatres and enjoying it. It had the classic James Gunn feel and felt similar to Guardians of the Galaxy. Daniel provides his review of the documentary Poop Cruise, about the Carnival Cruise issues from years ago where passengers were stranded for an extended period of time without power, little food, and massive sewage issues. Noel gives his take on Diablo 4 and about how it ended up being a disappointment with its gameplay and lack of replayability in comparison to Diablo 2. The only saving grace is the progression of the story within the Diablo Universe. Noel speaks about beating and thoroughly enjoying Resident Evil 4, to which Daniel agrees. They go into detail on the various positive qualities of the game including graphics, updated gameplay, and tweaks to the story. Surviving the Horror - Episode 15: Silent Hill: Homecoming

Hello one and all, and welcome back to another exciting episode of Surviving the Horror! On this month's episode Colin and Josh are back to examine a perhaps misunderstood and underrated horror game of the Xbox 360 era. In 2008, Konami and Double Helix published Silent Hill: Homecoming. This game, positioned as the fifth main line Silent Hill title, was the first in the franchise to be developed entirely by a Western studio. With a troubled development cycle, various conflicting inputs from Konami producers, and a change in the horror landscape at the time with games like Resident Evil 4, would Silent Hill: Homecoming have what it takes to rise to the occasion and satisfy fans? The answer at the time was a resounding no, with the game garnering mixed critical and user reception. However, in light of what we know today, and the history of its development, perhaps folks were too hard on Homecoming. Homecoming tells the story of Alex Shepherd, a solider returning to his home town of Shepherd's Glen after being wounded in battle. Alex arrives to find the town is in disarray, and most notably his brother and many other children in the town are missing. As Alex delves deeper into the long held traditions and secrets of Shepherd's Glen he too delves deeper into his own psyche and fragmented self. The end result is a horrific journey through hellish landscapes, and the dark recesses of the mind. Is it the best Silent Hill game out there? Undoubtedly no; but is it as bad as people on the internet would have you believe? Absolutely not. We hope you enjoy this lengthy episode on what is considered the "black sheep" of the Silent Hill franchise. Thank you for listening!
