Scripture Passage Mark 1:21-28 Worship Video Worship Audio Sermon Script Restorative Authority Mark wanted to show right from the beginning that Jesus had the authority. That was important to Mark. He wanted to get across this message. This Jesus of Nazareth was not merely a village preacher. He was the man with the authority. After baptism, temptation, and calling of disciples, the first thing Mark recorded was what we read today. Mark wanted to show that Jesus had the power over darkness. He had power over the evil spirit. That was Mark's witness. He saw that kind of power in Jesus. That is who Jesus is. Jesus has the power to defeat the evil of this world. This poor man was tortured by the evil spirit. He could not be what he was supposed to be. He could not live his full potential. Something more powerful than him controlled him. That was not what he wanted but the evil spirit controlled him. We are not exactly like him. We won't necessarily identify with this man. But, in fact, we are very much like him. We are not as free as we think. We are tortured by the negative spirit often. We don't want to feel that way but we do. Darkness hovers over us and this darkness leads us into despair and anxiety. We cannot be what we are supposed to be. We cannot live our full potential. We are not living the best version of ourselves. Something else controls us. It's not that we are hungry. It's not that we don't have a place to live. It's not that we don't have clothes to wear. And yet, we feel empty even though we are not hungry. We feel naked even though we have lots of clothes. We have many worries even though we have everything. We constantly live in fear. I don't think doing well in our career will help us. I don't think having more money will help us. I don't think having more time will help us. It is our internal problem. Since it is our internal problem, we cannot solve it externally by doing something. Our biggest problem is that we don't have the AUTHORITY over our life. We don't feel the empowerment to live as we wish. Jesus took out the evil spirit out of him. Jesus freed him from the power that enslaved him. People saw the authority of Jesus Christ. They said, What is this? A new teaching with authority! He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey him. (Mark 1:27) They saw the authority working through Jesus. With that authority, Jesus restored the authority in that man. That is what Jesus does to us. Jesus restores authority within us. Living in God's Image You are beautiful. You are wonderfully made. Last week, we reflected on that through Rev. Simon Park's sermon. For it was you who formed my inward parts; you knit me together in my mother's womb.I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works;that I know very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. (Psalm 139:13-15) We are created in God's image. But we lost the image of God. You heard about unmarked graves they found in old residential schools. We were all shocked when they found so many unmarked graves at the residential schools. They found 215 unmarked graves at Kamloops residential school. Many of them were taken away from their parents against their wishes and their parents' wishes. That was not what they wanted. That was not what their parents wanted. But they took them away anyway. Some of them never returned home but no explanation. Now they know. They were buried. In the name of assimilation and Christianization, they destroyed their language, their culture, and their identity. They destroyed the image of God in them. That is what the evil power does. Destroying the image of God within us. Jesus came to restore the image of God. Jesus came to give back to us the authority that makes us who we are supposed to be. Jesus had the power to do that. His teaching was filled with authority. They went to Capernaum; and when the sabbath came, he entered the synagogue and taught. They were astounded at his teaching, for he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes. (Mark 1:21, 22) Jesus had the authority and with that authority, he healed the man totally bounded by the evil spirit. By healing him, Jesus gave him back the authority he deserved. Authority to live with the image of God. Authority to live as a child of God. True Authority But interestingly, this is not the end of the message of Mark. Mark's story is developed in a strange way. Mark had a secret in his story. Mark wanted to reveal the mystery of the gospel. The secret of the gospel. In the beginning, Mark showed that Jesus had the authority to defeat the power of darkness. But only in the beginning, Mark described Jesus' power. As the story progressed, Jesus didn't do this kind of miracles any more. Even when he performed a miracle, he told people to be quiet. Don't tell people about it. Jesus was quiet. Often he talked about his own death. Peter even rebuked Jesus for that. And ultimately his life ended with the cross, Mark said. Jesus emptied his authority and gave himself to darkness. Mark wanted to show a radically new understanding of the authority. In Mark's understanding, the true authority did not come from power. The authority was not revealed in the act of casting out demons. The true authority was manifested in Jesus delivering himself into death. The authority of taking up the cross. Where did this authority come from? It came from Jesus' love for us. The ultimate power that can destroy the power of darkness is love. Mark understood that message. That was what Jesus chose to do. He let go of his power and authority. He chose the cross. That was the authority of love. Live with Love Love is the most powerful authority that can chase away darkness and the evil power not just once but forever. Only love can truly restore the image of God. You cannot solve your problem by having more power. Find love in your life. Discover the love of God. Be filled with love. Love will cast out fear. And when you have love, you will find the new authority of your life. With the authority of love, restore others' authority. Restore the image of God in others. Authority of love will overcome the power of death and bring about the resurrection. The post Authority of Love appeared first on St Timothy Presbyterian Church.
Scripture Passages Isaiah 11:6-9, Ephesians 2:14-20, John 17:22-23 Worship Video Sermon Video Sermon Audio Sermon Script It is wonderful to gather together like this. This gathering itself is inspiring. It would be nice to have worship service like this every Sunday. One of the planning team members asked, can we do that every Sunday? How nice! God wants us to gather together and worship God in one spirit regardless of who you are. People from East and West and North and South come and worship God. Having this ONE SPIRIT is important to have a meaningful worship. So Jesus said, first be reconciled to your sister or brother and then come and offer your gifts. So we have gathered together this afternoon with A REPENTANT HEART to confess our sins that hurt our sisters and brothers PERSONALLY or/and SYSTEMATICALLY. We recognize that we have treated our sisters and brothers with less than FULL RESPECT. We recognize that we have been blinded by our own ENSLAVEMENT of PRIVILEGE AND POWER. We recognize that our SELF-CENTREDNESS had created prejudice, hurt, and division. We recognize that our laziness, complacency, indifference, and wilful blindness had ignored SYSTEMIC RACISM and injustice that had been going on for many years. Now we have come to recognize all these things and ask God to heal us and restore the one spirit within us. We come before God to ask God's forgiveness and God's help. Without God's help and our conviction, this event will become another SHOW we put on. By God's grace, not only are we forgiven but we are EMPOWERED to be able to live as a NEW CREATION. By God's grace, we are not anymore victims of division, separation, animosity, and domination. We are free by God's RADICAL GRACE. As St. Paul confessed, I am who I am by God's grace. He is saying that I am not anymore a victim of my dark history, my power-hungry environment, and my prejudiced self. I am free in Christ. In this freedom, I can be deeply connected to God and to others. So deeply connected that we have become one. So he confessed, There is no longer Jew or Greek, there is no longer slave or free, there is no longer male and female; for all of you are one in Christ Jesus. (Galatians 3:28) In that freedom, the wall that divides us is broken. The letter to the Ephesians captured this idea very well. Even though it may not be Paul's authentic letter, it captures Paul's idea very well. For he is our peace; in his flesh he has made both groups into one and has broken down the dividing wall, that is, the hostility between us. (Ephesians 2:14) In Christ, we are one. We are not just black, white, or yellow. We are not just Canadians, Koreans, Chinese, Hungarian, and Arabic. We are a new creation by God's radical grace. We are given a new humanity. The fact that we are different does not divide us. Rather, it should be a way to ENRICH us. Unity can exist ONLY IN DIVERSITY. Without diversity, there is no unity, only UNIFORMITY. To create uniformity, you have to kill diversity. But to have the unity, diversity is necessary. Our differences should not be the reason that DIVIDE us. They should be the reason for us to CELEBRATE. So there is no reason to IGNORE these differences, FEAR these differences, and attempt to NEGATE and NULLIFY these differences. But that is not the reality that we see around us or we face every day in the world we live in. Instead of celebrating their differences, they have often become THREATENED by these differences. Their differences became not only their REASON but also their WEAPON to conquer and submit those who are not like them. Instead of finding a beautiful voice of harmony, they have SUPPRESSED different voices with the POWER and the PRIVILEGE they have. They cannot sing in HARMONY any more. Now they are all forced to sing in UNISON. By nullifying differences, we nullify our unique identity. By nullifying differences, we destroy the beautiful vision of being one. By ACCEPTING others, by RESPECTING others, and by EMBRACING others, we can be one. Without you, I can never be complete. That should be the attitude we should have. You and I together COMPLETE THE PICTURE. My congregation members know this phrase very well because I have quoted many times. As a matter of fact, our minister, the Rev. Simon Park just quoted last Sunday. It was originally an African saying: I am because you are. I can never define who I am without you. I am deeply connected with you. I am because you are. I can never be whole without you. Adam saw that when he saw Eve. This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh. (Genesis 2:23) When God created human beings, he didn't create just two human beings: Adam, Eve. He created And that connects Adam and Eve. Now Adam, And, Eve. He created the RELATIONSHIP. He created the CONNECTEDNESS. The Unity. They did not have to pretend that they were NOT DIFFERENT. They were who they were. But by God's grace, they were connected. Jews and Gentiles were one in Christ, Paul said. Gentiles did not have to be like Jews by being circumcised to be one in Christ. They are one in Christ by God's RADICAL GRACE, not by their SIMILARITY. Their differences do not separate them. Their differences enrich them. Don't be intimidated by your differences. When you nullify your differences out of fear, you are destroying the SPIRIT within that person. You are taking the BREATH out of that person. You are SUFFOCATING them. That is what RACISM does. Racism brings SUFFOCATION to humanity. We human beings have been suffocated not just for 8 MINUTES AND 46 SECONDS but for a long time because of racism. We need to bring back the breath, the breath of life to humanity. That was what Jesus did to us. He brought back the breath by blowing the air into our mouth. When he had said this, he breathed on them (John 20:22) We ask the Spirit to blow his breath upon all of us. The fresh Breath will give us a new life. The living Spirit will empower us to live a new bold life. The mysterious Wind will take us and guide us to where we have never been before. The Spirit, the Breath, and the Wind – as you all know, they all come from the same word, Ruach. In this new life, our differences will not divide us. In this new life, our differences will be HONOURED and CELEBRATED. Jews and Gentiles, Slaves and free, male and female will all become one while they are all different. Being a COLOUR BLIND does not do anything. Be COLOURFUL and enjoy your colourful life. That is the power of God's radical grace. That was what Jesus did for us. And this was Jesus' last prayer. The glory that you have given me I have given them, so that they may be one, as we are one. I in them and you in me, that they may become completely one, so that the world may know that you have sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me. (John 17:22, 23) Isaiah saw the same vision. He saw this wonderful vision that not only human beings were one, but the whole universe was in harmony. The animosity disappears. No more enemies. They have all become friends. Now we have gathered together this afternoon with COMMITMENT and CONVICTION. We came with HOPE. We ask God to grant his grace so that we may be able to pursue this dream of being one. God's RADICAL GRACE will be able to empower us to do so. By the request of the planning team, I will quickly summarize my sermon in Korean. I am sorry that I cannot do that in other languages. . . . . . . . . , . . , . , . , , . . . . . , . . . . . . . . . , , . The post Radical Grace appeared first on St Timothy Presbyterian Church.

In this episode I talk with Julia Balaz about everything related to Galactic Astrology, the soul's evolution and where she sees the earth is at, as a whole, in this time in history. When she began as a practitioner she was studying “earthly lives” and looking into the Lunar Nodes to understand more about her clients. While doing this, her faith in astrology grew exponentially and what she quickly realized is that “what is written in our chart is actually manifesting in our lives”. In time, she started attracting clients to her hypnosis sessions that were describing “lives or experiences of their soul that did not seem earthly'', and it seemed as if they had chosen to come to earth to spread love and light, which made her want to find out more. Not long after, she came to the understanding that through astrology and the zodiac degrees she could track the different star systems and find these alignments in her clients charts. Since this breakthrough, nothing could stop her.HIGHLIGHTSJulia's storyFollowing your heartOrbs of lightStar systemsHypnosisRaising your frequencyOur connection to starsThe trauma of being humanThe need to controlHopeABOUT JULIA For many years Julia felt guided to meticulously study Astrological Charts of her clients AFTER their Quantum Healing Hypnosis session. Back to the Crown Court is a special documentary remembering one of the iconic TV shows of the 70s and 80s. People across the generations loved this ground breaking and unique show which was broadcast thrice weekly on the ITV Network. Using a real jury, the drama was played out in real time with a plethora of big name actors together with many cutting their teeth in telly for the first time. One of the first daytime TV shows, it was produced at Granada Television in Manchester and in this programme presented by Ashley Byrne we hear contributions from actors Jon Iles (of The Bill fame), Charlie Lawson and Sean Wilson (later Jim McDonald and Martin Platt in Coronation Street) the legendary 70s childrens tv star and actor Derek Griffiths, veteran small part actor Jim Whelan, Crown Court juror Steve Sowerbutts and composer Simon Park.* Special thanks to Simon Park for the use of both Distant Hills (the Crown Court theme) and Eye Level (the theme to Van Der Valk).Back to the Crown Court is a MIM Production for Distinct Nostalgia.NOTE: The Distinct Nostalgia theme is owned by MIM Productions and composed by Rebecca Applin and Chris Warner. First broadcast on FAB RADIO INTERNATIONAL at 19:00 on January 2nd 2022. A Happy New Year to you all as we plummet headlong into the space year 2022 with another action-packed year of our show. Well, perhaps not exactly action-packed, but I think we've certainly got a few exciting tasty morsels to tempt you with over the coming weeks, and they're not all of them simply the stale leftovers from our Christmas hamper. This time last year, Sandy and I gathered here at VoS HQ and discussed the various telly faces that had been lost to us in the previous year, but this year we've decided that we're really not in the mood to do that again, and instead, I decided to strap Sandy into his recording chair as I went through the list of shows we produced for VISION ON SOUND last year, many of which he hadn't been involved in, and ask if he had any further nuggets of information or extra insight he might have into our various topics and, as you'll hopefully find out as well, even when he didn't, it was just nice for me to rediscover what an eclectic mixture of topics we'd covered during the past twelve months. In the course of the hour, we revisit Scandi Noir (some filmed in Stockport - The new Hollywoodford!), ponder upon the binge watch, chat about some of our favourite new shows, the Christmas Panto, police dramas, Flash Gordon and the urge to bellow "All Hail Ming!" at Stockport County. We also touch upon SPIRAL, TOMORROW'S WORLD, SCHITT'S CREEK, SPIES, BIG BROTHER, not being the fan of THE WEST WING that I think he is, music, THE SWEENEY, Simon Park, CALLAN, THE HUNDRED, Concert-going Post-Lockdown, SHERLOCK HOLMES, FRANKIE HOWERD, and CORONATION STREET. PLEASE NOTE - For Copyright reasons, musical content sometimes has to be removed for the podcast edition. All the spoken word content remains (mostly) as it was in the broadcast version. Hopefully this won't spoil your enjoyment of the show.
In this special, early Christmas Day release, Ben and Tao upload themselves into neural noir, cyber arthouse, psychological horror, Observer. Uncovered: Episode 7, Martial Seguin In the latest episode of Uncovered, Bruce de la Cruz speaks with Martial Seguin, one of the administrators of the Pickleball association of Clarence-Rockland, to discuss the sport’s relevance, how the sport has been hindered during the stay at home order, and ways the municipal government can help them expand. The interview begins with Seguin briefly explaining the history, and rules of the game. One of the benefits is that the game allows you to meet new people regularly, as the fast pace of round robin tournaments ensures that you play multiple opponents during a session. In addition, it can be enjoyed by all age demographics due to the accessible nature of the small-court and light weight equipment, which makes it less physically demanding than other racquet sports. Seguin then goes on to explain how he became involved with the sport, and how he became a founding member of the pickleball association. He and his wife picked up the sport when some of their friends suggested it, and found more people to play with in Rockland. This led to the creation of the association in 2018. After discussions with the city, they were able to play during the winter in the Jean-Marc Lalonde arena in Rockland. Word of mouth, and their Facebook page propelled the group from 30 members to its current number of 130. Diving into more details about the social aspect, Seguin talks about how the association holds brunches, and tournaments 4 times a week, in order to create a consistent and friendly playing environment. When asked about the competitive nature of the game Seguin mentioned that the association welcomes all skill levels, and creates specific tournaments to tailor to everyone’s needs. In regards to the stay at home order and the shutdown of outdoor sports, Seguin says that Pickleball should be able to continue. Some of the protocols that have been suggested are only playing with people from the same address, sanitizing equipment, masks on while waiting to play, masks off while playing, and having social distancing in place as well. In terms of what the city could do to help the club, Seguin says the city should expand and improve existing facilities, mainly the courts in Simon Park. This would create more space for players, greatly increasing the numbers of the association. In addition more bathrooms in Simon Park should be installed to accommodate the older demographics. Finally, the city should involve them more when there are meetings and discussions related to possible expansions of said facilities. The association wants to be involved and help the city identify the problems, rather than being left in the dark. Seguin hopes that the sport continues to grow in Clarence-Rockland, and doesn’t see it falling off the map anytime soon.

Last Friday was the third session of the Becoming Together: Toward the Beloved Community study led by Rev. Simon Park. This week, we read and reflected on Galatians 3:1-5:1. In this passage, we saw how normativities in our lives affect what we view as desirable. For the Galatians, the issue was this: they had found freedom from the norms of Roman normativity, and all the negative connotations and mental and spiritual enslavement that entailed. Now, however, they had reverted to a new enslavement, this time under Jewish norms. Like the Galatians, we are enslaved to norms. Our norms have been shaped by white normativity overtime, and have led to an unconscious bias against what is black. Through this study, we learned that Christ is the new normativity that decentralizes everything else. We are all equal in God's eyes. Your worth is affirmed in the love of God shown through Christ. We reflected on how having Christ in our lives can change the way we think and discussed how we can stand with Black people who are suffering with Christ at the centre of our thoughts and hearts. In discussion groups, our ESM congregation members shared their experiences, insights, and newfound understanding of their own views on anti-black racism, privilege and the normativities we live with. Many shared their own experiences of coming to Canada as an immigrant and discussed the privileges they didn't realize they had due to the fact that Korean immigrants followed the norms already present in Canadian culture. We found that it was hard to articulate the normativity we live with, which lead to questions like “Are we just victims to this normativity or can we break out of it?' and ‘What is centred in our lives? What should be de-centred?”. As these normativities have shaped the way our society functions as a whole, there are many layers of issues at both micro and macro levels. While minorities find themselves stuck in these cyclical lifestyles where there seems to be no chance at change, how can we empower the underprivileged and break through? How can we change our different upbringings and situations for the better, so that we can all share equal privileges, education and experiences? We must work together as a community to bring to light the needs and struggles that black people face daily, and work with them to find ways to change. We thank you all for participating in a very fruitful session and hope that you can make it to the last one on Friday, July 31st! Let us continue to reflect together. This past Friday marked the second of four sessions in our Becoming Together: Toward the Beloved Community study led by Rev. Simon Park. As part of our mission to seek truth through the gift of Scripture, we reflected on the important issue of racism in our society and our role as a church and community in the fight against anti-black racism. Last week we learned about the history of the Galatians, the concept of model minorities, and the white normativity that we see in today's society. Many of our ESM congregation members shared their stories and honest reflections on issues relating to racism, freedom and identity. This week we covered Galatians 1 and 2, exploring the source of the gospel as Paul understood it. As we began to delve into the message and thoughts of St. Paul, we learned about how this revelation of the Gospel changed Paul's entire belief system, helping him find a new calling in life. We continued to look at the real-life implications of Paul's understanding of the gospel and how he built communities based on new norms. We began to understand that the essence of a new community is based on the norm of a life where all receive God's grace without regard to their worth. From the insights of these chapters, we were able to relate to our current real-world context. In particular, we reflected on the residential patterns of Toronto, and realized how we've structured ourselves as a society. Toronto is much more segregated and racialized than we thought, even though we hold this reputation of being one of the most diverse cities in the world. What do these facts tell us about the norms we follow and the choices we make? Whom have we deemed worthy to be with? Is this due to the subconscious choices we make as citizens? Or is this a systemic issue that stems from the top and those in power? Questions like this provoked discussion and deep reflection on our actions as a faith community. As we were able to listen in to the discussion groups and hear the thoughts of our congregation members, many insights and new perspectives were introduced to us. Topics such as cumulative advantage, white privilege and ignorance branched many discussions on our history and our role as a faith community. Some members realized that normality and what seems right can be subjective; things that may be wrong can seem normal to us if we are used to it. Others discussed ignorance and how we are hesitant to help those who are different from us. Overall, it was truly a beautiful sight to see many of the members of our community, from all different types of backgrounds and experiences, come together and honestly discuss such prominent issues in our current context. We encourage you to continue to participate in these active discussions and Bible studies as we explore our role as a church and faith community. See you next Friday! Scripture Passage Luke 10:1-11 Sermon Text A Life of Discipleship In this passage, we discover that Jesus' disciples were not just twelve disciples. We are familiar with twelve disciples, but actually, in Jesus' time, there were many people who followed Jesus and wanted to be the disciples of Jesus. And Jesus sent 70 people among them to experience what it is to minister to people. And they were also disciples of Jesus Christ. There was no Christian. Only disciples. Even now, there is no Christian. Only disciples. There is no such thing as “I'm a Christian, but I'm not a disciple.” That doesn't work. If you're a Christian, you're a disciple. That's what being a Christian is all about. So those 70 people who are sent by Jesus Christ, like them we are also called by God and sent for a specific purpose. So our life is not just life to enjoy. You've got to enjoy your life, but your life is not all about enjoying life, but your life is about being called and being sent for a specific purpose as a human being. You're called as special people of God and God equipped you. And God is sending you back to the world so that you can become disciples of Jesus Christ. That's what being a Christian is all about. The Meaning Behind Our Lives Is there a difference between just living and then living as a disciple? I think there's a radical difference between just living and living as a disciple. In modern days, Christianity has become so watered down. We're not quite sure what the difference is between me and those who are not Christians. Okay, I'm going to church. I go to church not every Sunday, but once in a while. But they don't go to church. Is there any difference? Are we morally any superior to them? Are we any better people than them? It has been watered down so much, there's not even a distinction between Christian and non-Christians – only just in concept. Intellectually, you ascend to the resurrection of Jesus Christ – is that what makes you Christian? Is it just intellectual belief? It is a belief system that is different? I think there's a radical difference between living just as a human being and living as a disciple of Jesus Christ. Through today's scripture passage I would like to reflect with you what it means to live as a disciple. Of course, we cannot just follow the living condition of the people 2000 years ago. That doesn't make sense. Doing that doesn't do any good anyway. They didn't have iPhones, they didn't have Samsung Galaxy. It is not desirable to just imitate their condition. That is not the purpose. Jesus told these 70 people, “Do not carry your purse. Do not carry your bag. Don't even greet people when you see them on the street.” Do not even greet them, just keep following them? For what purpose? In this specific context, Jesus gave this instruction for these people. These are not the general rules for disciples to apply at any time, that was specifically given to them at that time, 2000 years ago. When I went to Kazakhstan, I didn't take any purse. I didn't take any bag. I didn't take any sandals. I just went out and preached the gospel. And then I met people. But that's Kazakhstan, that's a very specific context. But here in this world, in Canada, Toronto, what does it mean to live as a disciple? I think behind this story there is a spiritual principle. We need to find a spiritual principle and that spiritual principle is very important in living as a disciple. There are many spiritual disciplines, spiritual principles hidden behind this story, but I would like to just say one thing today. That is, they totally depended on God. Nothing else. When the disciples are one or when 70 people were sent, they had to totally depend on God. Our Dependence On God The reason Jesus told them not to carry purses and bags was to give them training to totally depend on God. I think that is a very important lesson for us to learn. Many times, we don't totally depend on God. We try to handle our problems with our own hands. They had to trust the God who provided them. Even with food. They had to trust that God would give them the power to be able to heal. How can you heal somebody? When they laid their hands on the sick, how can they heal them without the power of God? So they had to depend on the power of God. When they proclaim the Kingdom of God, how can they expect that the Kingdom of God will be established right there? Because only God can do it. So all the things that they had to do, they had to completely depend on God. When you completely depend on God, there's one experience that you get. Do you know what that is? When you completely depend on God, there's one experience that you get. That experience is you experiencing the power of God. When you completely depend on God, what you experience is the power of God. We didn't read it today, but in verse 17 and 18 the disciples came back and then they share their experience. This is what they said, “The 70 returned with joy, saying, ‘Lord, in your name even the demons submit to us!' He said to them, ‘I watched Satan fall from heaven like a flash of lightning.'” They experienced the power of God. When they did the ministry, the evil power submitted to them. They experienced it. When they totally depended on God, they experienced the power of God. In life, experiencing the power of God is very, very important. That experience is possible only when you totally depend on God. It is different from other kinds of power that you have like the power of position, power of status, power of your wealth, power of your talents and gifts and knowledge, all that. It's very different. Experiencing the power of God is very unique and that experience gives us tremendous enrichment in our lives. When you experience the power of God, two things become formed within us. As you experience the power of God, these two things form in you. One is joy and the other is confidence. Joy and confidence, or you can say courage. Joy and confidence become characteristics of your life when you experience the power of God. With Joy And Confidence Joy. That's a wonderful thing. Joy brings brightness to your life. When joy becomes a characteristic of your life, somehow your life opens up. Things turn out alright. Your life has to open up, not close in. And joy opens up your life; your life gets brightened up. Joy is the power of life. Joy gives vitality to your life. Through joy, even darkness is driven away. Jesus saw that Satan fell from the sky. The evil force in the darkness will be driven away when you have joy within you. It is life-giving energy. That joy is possible only when you totally depend on God and as a result when you experience the power of God. Another thing that comes to you is confidence; courage. That gives us the authority of life. Authority is not given to you because of your position. Authority is given to you because you have confidence and courage in life. That is what authority is. We can live our lives with authority. You don't get easily intimidated or let down. As we experience the power of God, we get confidence and that confidence gives us the authority of life. And we need that authority in life that comes from confidence and courage because a life of being sent is not necessarily easy. People may not accept you. Jesus said, “I am sending you out like lambs into the midst of wolves.” You are sent in the midst of wolves. Don't be like wolves. You are lambs. Be confident as lambs. In the world of wolves, you don't have to act like them. You don't need to be accepted by them. You don't need to be loved by them. You are lambs. You are passing out the peace. You are not fighting against them like wolves. When you are confident, you can be who you are. In the world of wolves, we may face danger, difficulties in life and sufferings and hardships. The road we take is a narrow road. It is a way of the cross. All the disciples, 12 disciples and Saint Paul, they experienced tremendous hardships and persecution, but they stood tall. They were confident. They just spoke the message boldly whether they were accepted or not. Let Us Be Confident Disciples Today's scripture says, “If they don't accept your peace, then that peace will return to you.” It's their problem, not your problem. It's not the problem of the person who sends, speaks the message of hope. Jesus even said that when you go to the town and if they don't accept you, shake off your dust. You don't need to beg them, Please accept my message. Don't do that, shake off your dust and leave. This is what he said, “But whenever you enter a town and they do not welcome you, go out into its streets and say, ‘Even the dust of your town that clings to our feet, we wipe off in protest against you. Yet know this: the Kingdom of God has come near.” People may not accept you, but our goal is not to be accepted. It's not to be popular. It's not to be well-liked and loved. Our job is to send peace. Our job is to accept them. Our job is to forgive them. Our job is to tell them the truth. Today we have a congregation meeting for Simon Park. After many years of consideration, he has received this call to go into ministry. He gave up his lucre job as a lawyer and he came into ministry not because it pays him better. You will see that. Or his work will be easier; he has to live and work with a kid right now and he has to run around, he has to do the hamburgers and the guy will come in, play piano and there are all kinds of stuff he has to do. He responded to this life calling because there was a burning desire within him. He had no choice but to say yes. That's a calling. All of you are the same whether you come into ministry or not. That burning desire within you, that is a call. Simon, you will experience the power of God and you'll be filled with joy. But you are a servant. You're not a slave to meet people's wants. You are a servant who proclaims the truth. Stand tall, be confident, courageous. You don't beg for love. You don't beg for attention. You do your thing. We do our own things. That's what you are called to do. My friends go out to the world, be the light. You are the disciples of Jesus Christ. Whether at work, at school or wherever you may be, be confident. You are called by God and you are sent there to be the light of the world. The post Life of Being Sent appeared first on St Timothy Presbyterian Church.
