How do you overcome ageism in today's society? Corinne Aumen, Ph.D. joins us for a conversation to talk about ageism and her new book, “Keenagers”. She is the founder of Choice Care Navigators based out of Greensboro, NC, where her company is dedicated to helping families navigate the aging process. Her passion lies in helping us reshape how we perceive older adulthood, a vision she has beautifully encapsulates in her book “Keenagers”. She is on a mission to change the conversation around aging. Especially in a culture where many avoid thinking about older adulthood until the last minute, she urges us to embrace aging in a positive light. During our conversation, Corrine explained where ageism comes from and how we have the largest demographic of people over 65 years of age with 10,000 people daily turning 65 and the highest number of people wanting or needing to continue to work.  Research shows that those living a powerful and purposeful life gain a longer life by at least 7 ½ years. If we don't have purpose that is when we start to see that negative downhill effect usually after the 18-month honeymoon phase.  Dr. Becca Levy shares a lot of research and stats on ageism and more about the impact of the 7 ½ years. Corinne urges us to get educated and to better understand that living with purpose helps increase our vitality but also how older generations impact business and healthcare. She speaks with us about stereotypes and how what we say matters. Some of those stereotypes in business might include things like:Older people can't learn.Older workers cost more money.Work is too much for them. But the benefits of keeping older adults include:Maintaining a strong knowledge bank. The social acumen.Etc.If we take an example like technology, the older generation is being left out and with having the largest population ever in an older demographic, this becomes highly impactful. Especially when a youngster is creating apps and algorithms' s that are focused on a specific demographic. And with the acceleration of AI (Artificial Intelligence) it's even more important to influence the knowledge of older generations to help us shape correctly and with fewer biases.Healthcare is another area that is impacted greatly as we will often hear doctors explain things away because of age versus the actual problem at hand. It becomes imperative that you advocate for yourself or at least have someone with you to help advocate and get the answers you need.  Corinne urges us to educate and arm ourselves for the day that each of us will eventually get to, ageism impacts everyone and we owe it to ourselves to prepare and enter it prepared. If you have questions for Corinne that we did not answer in this podcast you can find her on her social feeds on IG, FB, and LI. Want to know who has been on our most recent podcast or want to learn more about our community events, visit us at www.wilempowered.com and sign up for our monthly newsletter. Lael Stone is a TEDx talk speaker, educator, and author on a mission to create wellness in families through education, connection and communication.  If you were to ask Lael what it is that she does, she could sum it up in a sentence; “I speak for the heart of the child.” Whether it is supporting parents to understand their children, helping adults process their own childhood trauma, or creating education systems that value emotional awareness – it all comes back to connection and compassion. She began working in childbirth education and postnatal care in 2004 – working with couples through pregnancy, birth and the first few years of parenting as a Doula, Calmbirth® Practitioner and Postnatal trauma Counsellor. Working in this field certainly showed her the importance of connection and trust. From a woman trusting her baby and birthing body to learning all about how to parent with presence and awareness. However, her children have facilitated her greatest learning and self-discovery. From challenging and unexpected birth experiences to navigating fears and traumas, to holding on tight through the teen years, they continue to show her what is possible when you are free to be the true essence of yourself. In this episode, Lael and I have an honest conversation about what it means to be an aware parent and how to deeply connect with our children.  We also discuss: Her journey to being an educator and working with families. What creating wellness in families looks like. The importance of being mindful, empathetic and compassionate with our children.  Ways we can help and support our children to thrive emotionally. Her amazing TEDx talk: How to Raise Emotionally Intelligent Children.  What it means to hold space for our children's wellbeing. Although Tamearra Dyson started her career as a certified nursing assistant and endoscopy technician at Marin General Hospital, she ultimately decided she wanted to pursue her passion for food. She grew up watching her elders cook, and developed a love for both cooking and having people enjoy what she made. She felt like she had something to offer the world: a vegan cuisine experience that she hoped would change people's lives around the world. Thus, Ms. Dyson opened Souley Vegan in 2006 and hasn't looked back. She enhanced her professional knowledge by becoming certified in business. Ms. Dyson considers her greatest accomplishment to be building her company into a national brand without startup capital. As the restaurant's owner, founder, and president, she attributes her success to the work ethic instilled by her mother and grandfather. They gave her the drive and endurance to follow through on goals, even if it meant working some 18-hour days. In recognition of her accomplishments, she was honored as Entrepreneur of the Month by Black Enterprise, as one of the Top Ten Soul Food Restaurants in the Country by USA Today, and as the recipient of several local awards. She keeps in touch with her peers through membership in the National Restaurant Association. Looking to the future, Ms. Dyson hopes to develop Souley Vegan into a successful franchise and to be a successful author. In her free time, she enjoys running and writing poetry. She also supports the charitable missions of PETA, SPCA International, and The Bread Project. Get Up Nation®! My name is Ben Biddick. I’m the Creator and Host of Get Up Nation® and Co-Author of Get Up: The Art of Perseverance. Recently I had the honor and privilege of speaking with Lisa McCormick. Lisa lost her son Jeffrey when he was 17 years old to a drug overdose. Lisa later learned Jeffrey had been sex trafficked prior to his death. Lisa speaks and advocates for systemic change that enables American systems to hold traffickers and buyers accountable, prevent human trafficking, and effectively rescue and serve those who have been trafficked. Because of the sensitive nature of the interview, I chose not to end the show with my usual six questions. Instead we focus heavily on the resilience process Lisa uses of transforming her pain and grief into advocacy, awareness, and a relentless drive to educate others in hopes of preventing future exploitation. Lisa is a member of the Wisconsin Anti Human Trafficking Advisory Council and is featured in the Wisconsin Department of Children and Families documentary film on youth sex trafficking in Wisconsin to be released in 2019. Lisa speaks on the topics of sex trafficking, drug addiction, bullying, acceptance, and her faith throughout her personal journey as a parent of a sex trafficking victim. She educates groups to recognize the signs of at risk youth, how to overcome barriers of fear in talking with them and showing them you care, and to give them someone to trust. Lisa has made it her life’s purpose to share her family’s story so others understand trafficking and how easily our vulnerable children can be exploited. Lisa walks alongside suffering parents, grandparents, and caregivers, supporting them with the knowledge that they are not alone in this journey. In this episode of the Get Up Nation® Show, we are confronted with the truth that human trafficking exists only because there is a demand for it. If there was no demand, it would not exist. And now, I present to you, Lisa McCormick. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/get-up-nation-podcast/support

They say that 50 is the new 40. What they don't say is that while you might act and feel younger at 50 than your mother did even at 40, your body is still 50 years old. Sex can be better after 50 than at any other time in your life. It can involve new adventures, brand new experiences, and the fresh freedom of erotic autonomy ready and ripe for exploration.   Women need to let go of the idea that after the age of 50, that sex is over. That does not have to be true. Letting go of perceptions of what sexuality is about can help. This week's guest is Saxy Butler, Author, V-Blogger, Speaker & Educator. Ms. Butler is a 22 year veteran in the marketing, media and medical, industry.  Presently the President of Fuzion Digital Media and Owner of TSB Marketing & Productions. Saxy Butler holds a degree and certifications in International Business, Sexual Health, Marketing, and TV/Radio Productions. SaxyB is an Atl’s Hottest Online RadioHost/Producer nominee and Author of  3 Ebook Series for Niche Branding, Healthy Cooking and Self/Sexual Health.  For more than 7 years Saxy Butler has provided business and sexual health education for adult individuals. SaxyB will give it to us straight. Be ready! This is one show you do not want to miss.

Since 1994, Cynthia Klein has been guiding parents to creating happy and healthy families. As a speaker to over three hundred groups, Cynthia has given parents the tools and confidence to improve their family dynamics. Her presentations are interactive, highly visual and easy for parents to apply to their own family situations. Parents leave encouraged that they are able to make positive changes. Cynthia’s clients have included the parents at Stanford University, Kaiser Permanente, The Boys and Girls Clubs of the Peninsula, The Children’s Health Council and Hewlett-Packard. Cynthia works privately with parents who want to make permanent improvements in their families. The wisdom she has gained from successfully raising her strong-willed young adult daughter is invaluable in understanding each parent’s struggle and prescribing the correct solutions. Her success lies in her amazing ability to first accurately assess family dynamics. Then Cynthia creates unique and individualized strategies during her interviews with the parents. This fine-tuned approach fixes the foundation of family problems. Parents gain wisdom of how to apply their newly learned beliefs and actions to other family situations. Cynthia authors the Middle School Mom column for the Parenting on the Peninsula magazine. Her education background includes a B.A. in Psychology from Berkeley and a Training and Human Resources Certificate from U.C. Santa Cruz along with certificates from four parent education institutions. She has also been credentialed in California and New Mexico where she taught elementary school. Her greatest pride, though, is that her 23 year-old-college graduated daughter is self-sufficient, calls her for guidance and considers Cynthia her mentor. Cynthia's website is Bridges 2 Understanding. Pro-Track Profile I met Cynthia at a recent National Speakers Association Northern California Chapter Pro-Track class and asked her about her professional focus and what attracted her to Pro-Track.
