Introduction: Today we are talking about some techniques that are really dear to my heart: Emotion code, body code and belief code. I love them because they are simple and give quick results. Basically if i have a neck pain i will go to body code and once i have released whatever comes up the pain is gone. And I do the same for my 1,5 year old son. So today we will be discussing how these three methods work and how healing happens.Today with me is Coach Grethe In addition to being my friend Grethe is a coach that helps people transform their life and manifest the life of their dreams. She is a certified emotion code, body code and belief code practitioner as well as a certified psych-k practitioner. She combines coaching and energy healing in order to create change first on a subconscious level. This change then quickly manifests as real, lasting change in the person's life. She is one of 75 people in the world who are certified in the belief code system. Being totally in love with these methods I am thrilled to have her here today. Rahshaana Green is a multidisciplinary wellness consultant who combines her knowledge and experience in science, yoga and building human connection to help people heal. She's a Forrest Yoga Guardian and the Director of Equity and Contemplative Psychotherapy at the Nalanda Institute, where she directs and teaches within the Contemplative Psychotherapy Programs. In their conversation, Rahshaana tells Anne about being a curious kid, a high performer and voracious reader who used books as windows into other worlds. She talks about how she learned the power of agency from her mother, who taught her and her siblings, with a ‘scared-straight' approach, how to make choices to take life into the direction they intended. The oldest of four, Rahshaana admits that her choices were also a potential blueprint for her siblings, and how a desire to influence them positively led her to pursue an early career in science. After receiving her BA in Biophysical Chemistry from Dartmouth College and an MBA from The University of Texas at Austin, Rahshaana talks about how she combined her passion for science and business skills, which led her to pursue a fifteen-year career in Marketing and Business Development for medical device and life science companies.Rahshaana then explains how an accident directed her towards yoga — Forrest Yoga specifically. Able to heal herself through this practice, she tells Anne how she made the choice to certify as a teacher and with the support of an amazing manager was able to do so in parallel to her career. She continued to pursue a personal study in meditation, mindfulness and compassion practices to deepen her own growth and to empower others to cultivate well-being and resilience.Reaching the present, Anne asks Rahshaana to talk through her journey that led her to the Nalanda Institute in Contemplative Science (which is, incidentally, how the two became acquainted). Rahshaana talks in depth about the programs she teaches in Compassion-Based Resilience Training (CBRT). And who needs to explore CBRT? Probably everyone, according to her, because, as we can probably all attest, ‘human-ing' is hard. To conclude, the pair discusses how the power of compassion and mindfulness combined can help people access emotions, including difficult emotions, and become resilient to feelings like discomfort. And they talk about the importance of intimacy — a word that can describe the connection we can hope to have with the body — as a form of ultimate intelligence. A profound and inspiring conversation. Ana Forrest is an inspiration and has been changing people's lives for over 45 years. She is an internationally recognized pioneer in yoga and emotional healing. She is the Creatrix of Forrest Yoga, a mystic, visionary, philanthropist, author, and Medicine Woman. Ana crafted Forrest Yoga while working through healing from her own life's traumas – abuse and addictions, the feeling of helplessness around the addictions, and the ongoing suffering from chronic injuries & illnesses. Ana took her first yoga class at age 14 and became a certified instructor in 1975. Ana used yoga and Native American ceremony to save her own life. It is her intent to pass that lifesaving ability forward. The process of healing herself inspired her to teach others to heal themselves physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. Forrest Yoga is a powerfully physical, internally focused practice that emphasizes the integration of transformative experiences from the mat into purposeful daily life. Ana is at heart a woman of the wilderness. She has spent many years in the mountains and forests learning from the animals, trees, rocks, water, and the seasons. Prior to becoming a yoga teacher, Ana spent her early years training horses, dogs, cats, birds, and the occasional snake. She brings her deep understanding of the animal kingdom to her teaching with humans. Jose Calarco is Ana's co-director of Forrest Yoga. Jose comes from a long history of shamanism, the arts, music and healing, bringing his decades of experience as an artistic prodigy to Forrest Yoga. He is also Director of the legendary Australian Indigenous company Descendance Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Dance Theatre www.descendance.com.au. Descendance won the UNESCO (United Nations) competition as the world's best Indigenous live show. Jose Calarco is a bridge to the spirit world. As Ceremonial Leader for Forrest Yoga and co – teacher with Ana Forrest, he creates and teaches ceremonies, tells creation stories from the traditions of the First Peoples of Australia and other shamanic traditions and weaves these into the yoga practice His experience as a faith healer and Medicine Man spans over 30 years. He has collaborated with Indigenous wisdom keepers like Medicine Woman and Australian cultural treasure Kathy Marika of the Yirrikala People of central Northern Australia, and he co-created Descendance Aboriginal with Indigenous elder and Song Woman Imelda Willis of the Yidinji and Kandju tribes. Imelda is Jose's Spiritual Mother, and was a rare woman who had been fully initiated. She adopted him as an equal into her tribes in Far Northern Australia, sharing knowledge and hope with each other and with the world. Also available on YouTube
Ana Forrest is an internationally-recognized pioneer in yoga and emotional healing, and the creatrix of Forrest Yoga. Jose Calarco comes from a long history of shamanism, the arts, music and healing, and co-directs Forrest Yoga. Together Ana and Jose create an experience that extends far beyond what people typically mean when they say "yoga" -- it is a unique ceremony of healing and discovery, an exploration of what in aboriginal tradition might be called dreamtime. Today we speak about the origins of Forrest Yoga, Ana's personal healing journey, and Jose's experience with indigenous ritual and music; we speak about truth, spirit, discipline, ceremony, and living life in close connection with all that matters most. Concepts of family, union, and separation are still very much entangled in different cultural values. In many places in the world, we have come to some degree of common understanding, but in some places, it remains to be a conversation that's difficult to navigate, causing it to be painful for those who go through it. In this podcast, Monica Biasiolo shares her life experiences, marriage, and divorce. Going through the often difficult and painful process of divorce took a toll on her health. For women who've learned to be their own worst enemies, this in-your-face guide offers powerful tools to break free from the cultural messages that feed negative body image and stand in the way of women becoming their most authentic and radiant selves. In a society overwhelmed with messages of how women should be and appear, it's easy for them to internalize these ideas and become their own harshest critics. It's time for a change. It's time to stop squashing women into painfully tight “should-be” boxes and celebrate their bodies for what they are—divine tools to reach our highest aspirations and experience the full fabulousness of life. In today's episode, Erica shares with listeners the story of how losing her dad at a young age propelled her into making certain life decisions and taking responsibilities for herself. She begins by delving into the tragic event of losing her father and how that became a point of inflection that reshaped the direction of her life to be the ‘captain of her own ship'. She discusses what led her to Yoga - a result of chronic migraines - and how Yoga has helped her in the battle with her illness. She also details how she switched careers from being a professional musician to becoming a Yoga teacher, and reveals the inspiration behind her book, Your Body, Your Best Friend . The episode comes to a close with Erica sharing the song that describes her life, a song about humanity. Filled with wisdom borne out of life experiences, Erica Mather has so many valuable lessons to teach us all about living life without regrets. Listening in today will definitely be time well spent. Episode Highlights: - Erica recounts the challenging event that reshaped the direction of her life - When parental expectation disappears. - The various points of inflection that changed Erica's life. - The battle with adult onset migraines - the path to Yoga. - How Yoga makes you take a long look at your body and spirit - How to resolve that feeling about being viewed with a desire to teach? - Lessons from the book, Your Body, Your Best Friend. - The impetus that inspired the writing of her book - The one song that describes Erica's life Quotes: “ I just decided I'm going to be my own person, I'm going to be the captain of my own ship, and I am not going to work for people who don't care about me.” “It's made me have ultimate responsibility for the direction of my life.” “You know, if I'm unhappy with anything about my work life, or my relationship life, or my friendship life, or my family life, or my spiritual life, I've got one person to truly point a finger at.” “He valued my creativity, my intelligence, and it set me on a path of writing some music and really doubling down on being a professional musician.” “If you don't have a relationship with your body, it'll be hard to monitor signs that it's giving you.” “Part of our maturity around body image is coming to understand how people might react to you, and then managing your own response to that reaction.” “The main message of the book is to not waste more time on things that don't produce real outcomes in your life.” “We have a very finite amount of time, we have a finite amount of energy, and time wasted hating the way you look, disliking the way you look, is time wasted.” Links: https://www.yulianakimgrant.com/phoenix-tales (Phoenix Tales Homepage) https://www.instagram.com/yulianakimgrantofficial/ (Phoenix Tales on Instagram) https://open.spotify.com/show/1heIpPMsG6HbXXIDLmAnEe (Phoenix Tales on Spotify) https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=322043276201679 (Phoenix Tales on Facebook) https://ericamather.com/ (Erica Mather Homepage) https://www.instagram.com/erica_mather/ (Erica Mather) Instagram --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/yuliana-kim-grant/message

In the midst of all the body talk we have different views of body positivity. My guest Yoga Therapist and author Erica Mather speaks about it. After completing her B.A. she worked as a temp, a personal assistant to a differently abled woman, and as an office manager to a small music agency. When her father died at the young age of 56 (she, 23), Erica realized that life is short and it's best to quickly get on with the business of living it in alignment with what matters to us most. She quit her day job and doubled down on playing the piano professionally, gigging, writing, teaching, and self-producing two jazz-inspired albums, Borderlands (1999), and The Millennium Song Cycle (2001). In 2002 Erica was voted “Madison's Favorite Jazz Artist” in the 2002 Isthmus Reader's Poll. She served on the Mayor's Arts Advisory Board. You can hear her music on SoundCloud. At the age of 26, Erica began experiencing adult onset migraines, going overnight from “healthy” to “gravely ill.” On a quest for relief she discovered Forrest Yoga. In 2004 moved to New York City to commence Ph.D. studies in Ethnomusicology at Columbia University. After earning her Masters Degree in 2006 she took a medical leave of absence, trying to get a handle on worsening migraines. In this quest, during the summer of 2006 Erica enrolled in and completed the month-long, immersive Forrest Yoga 200-hour Teacher Training with Ana Forrest, in Boston, Massachusetts. Returning to New York City, Erica began what has been her profession of the last 15 years. Fortifying her career change with retail work, Erica began growing a reputation throughout New York City as a gifted teacher, capable of high-level, physically, intellectually, and emotionally engaging education, presented in a mixed level classroom. It is in this environment of practicing and teaching yoga that Erica gestated the information culminating in her first book, Your Body, Your Best Friend: End the Confidence Crushing Pursuit of Unrealistic Beauty Standards and Embrace Your True Power (New Harbinger, April 2020). Using her own illness and body image challenges, the teachings of embodiment intrinsic to Forrest Yoga, and her experience working in private practice with people's wounded and ill bodies, Erica has developed a teaching style and message that encourages us to begin to build a relationship with the body, in service of our health, and also in the quest to discover our life's work. https://ericamather.com/ https://www.instagram.com/erica_mather/?hl=en Follow me on: facebook: https://facebook.com/couponqueenpin001/ Website: https://couponqueenpin.com Email: cqp@couponqueenpin.com Instagram: @couponqueenpin001 Twitter: @couponqueenpin #podcast #podcasting #spotify #podcasts #podcastersofinstagram #podcastlife #podcaster #streaming #radio #book #love #netflix #itunes #podcasters #author #applepodcasts #storytime #podcastshow #learning #healthy #newpodcast #motivation #spotifypodcast #applepodcast #amazon #family #travel #soundcloud #radioshow #teaching --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/cqpmoments/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/cqpmoments/support

How can yoga and ceremony help us release from emotional trauma? “Our emotions have a chemical component, so part of what we teach is how to have some responsibility for the chemistry running through our bloodstream.” Emotional trauma sits in all of us, but we can shift it. Valeria interviews Ana Forrest and Jose Calarco about Universal Love, ancient wisdom, freedom, the book Fierce Medicine and other thoughts in between. Ana Forrest is an inspiration and has been changing people's lives for over 45 years. She is an internationally-recognized pioneer in yoga and emotional healing. She is the Creatrix of Forrest Yoga, a mystic, visionary, philanthropist, author, and Medicine Woman. Ana crafted Forrest Yoga while working through healing from her own life's traumas - abuse, addictions, and the ongoing suffering from chronic injuries and illnesses. The process of healing herself inspired her to teach others how to heal themselves physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. Forrest Yoga is a powerfully physical, internally focused practice that emphasizes how to integrate the transformative experiences from the mat into purposeful daily life. Ana took her first yoga class at age 14 and became a certified instructor in 1975. Ana used yoga and Native American ceremony to save her own life. Her study and clinical application of healing modalities is vast, and includes homeopathy, naturopathy, anatomy, reflexology, acupressure, craniosacral treatments, regression therapy, reiki, polarity, hands on healing and Ceremony. All these inform her work and lead to her becoming a wise, intuitive teacher & healer. Jose Calarco is Ana's co-director of Forrest Yoga. Jose comes from a long history of shamanism, the arts, music and healing, bringing his decades of experience as an artistic prodigy to Forrest Yoga. Jose is also Director of the legendary Australian Indigenous company Descendance Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Dance Theatre descendance.com.au. Joining me on the show today are the following passionate and generous teachers...Juliana Machado (E-RYT 500) is a native of Brazil, who moved to New York in 2000 where she was introduced to yoga. She has taken 4 yoga teacher trainings since then: Ashtanga Primary Series a 200 Hour TT (2001), Forrest Yoga a 200 Hour TT (2006), and "Life of a Yogi" 500 Hour TT with Sri Dharma Mittra (2012), and the 800 Hour “Life of a Yogi” with Sri Dharma Mittra (2013). Juliana considers herself to be a lifelong student who is lucky enough to share and teach her lessons learned on this sacred science with all those who wish to receive it. She has taught in New York, Florida, California and in South America for the past 18. Juliana believes yoga is the "house of no judgement" where one of the best things a student can do is to practice as often as possible and never give up. Her teaching style comes from a belief in empowerment of the higher self and observance of the yoga ethical rules on and off the mat. She tailors her classes to fit needs of the ones in the room, so everyone in her class receives the maximum benefit from their time spent on the mat. With a background in contemporary dance and awareness through the movement, Juliana blends her artistic experience with her love of yoga, creating a unique space for self-exploration and discovery through the practice and power of yoga. Juliana believes that the highest we go, the easier it gets as we walk the path of yoga. After offering her classes widely across the globe, Juliana put roots down and opened Yoga Path for Healing in Catskill in 2017.Jacquelyn Nash is a yoga teacher and co-owner of The Yoga House. With her roots and practice firmly grounded in the Ashtanga lineage, Jacquelyn's classes draw from the foundational principles of that practice but also incorporate the softer and therapeutic applications of yoga that she has absorbed through various trainings. Jacquelyn teaches with the intention to make yoga accessible to all people and to demystify the “secret language” of yoga. Inspired by the light-heartedness but also sincerity of many of her teachers, Jacquelyn's approach to sharing yoga is nurturing, compassionate, and seasoned with a touch of humor. Jacquelyn also owns and manages Hudson Valley Wedding Yoga, which organizes yoga classes for weddings, bachelorette parties, and special events.Carisa Borrello is the director and owner of The Living Seed, which opened its doors to the Hudson Valley Community in the summer of 2000. Carisa is certified in Sivananda Yoga, Somatic Yoga, Yoga Tune Up®, completed the Forrest Yoga foundation course and two Advanced Teacher Training Courses with Ana Forrest, Gil Headly's 6 Day Human Dissection Workshop and is initiated into the path of Andean Mysticism with Elizabeth Jenkins and Don Juan Nunez Del Prado. She is a certified Hanna Somatic Educator (CHSE) from The Novato Institute for Somatic Research and Training, and a level 6 Student and level 1 Instructor of I Liq Chuan, the Martial Art of Awareness, a family style Kung Fu based on principles of Tai Chi and Zen philosophy. Carisa is eternally grateful for the devotion, wisdom and insight that all of her teachers and ancestors have shared with her. Their passion for their arts, for healing the human spirit and mending the hoop of the people are a daily inspiration. She is honored to practice and share the art of Hanna Somatics, Yoga and the Internal Arts- they are gifts - bringing us back to ourselves so we can heal, love and grow to express our highest potential. Carisa creates a sanctuary, a sacred place for people to deepen their relationship to their spirits through movement, mindfulness, meditation and creative expression.Today these ladies share how and why they got into yoga, how they became yoga teachers and then eventually yoga studio owners. We checked in on how they are doing business now with COVID forcing the closing of their physical spaces. They are all offering classes virtually and in person outdoors with some on demand options at the Living Seed and The Yoga House. They of course also offer private sessions and if you were inspired by Carisa's sharing of Hanna Somatics, she is also doing private sessions outdoors at her home and her studio which for pain management and other needs. They happily share how yoga has changed their lives for the better and offer ways to stay connected to the present moment versus in fear or anxiety during these uncertain times we are all navigating.Because we broadcast out of Kingston, NY, I wanted to also recognize the other Kingston based studios, The Hot Spot offering outdoor and online classes, and Yoga Lab offering online classes.Today's show was engineered Nick Panken host of Freedom Highway from radiokingston.orgOur show music is from Shana Falana !!!Feel free to email me, say hello: she@iwantwhatshehas.orgLeave me a voicemail with your thoughts or a few words about who has what you want and why! Was dann passierte? Dein Kopf kreist. Ana Forrest is an inspiration and has been changing people's lives for over 45 years. She is an internationally-recognized pioneer in yoga and emotional healing. She is the Creatrix of Forrest Yoga, a mystic, visionary, philanthropist, author, and Medicine Woman. Ana crafted Forrest Yoga while working through healing from her own life's traumas - abuse and addictions, the helplessness around the addictions, and the ongoing suffering from chronic injuries & illnesses. The process of healing herself inspired her to teach others about what really works to heal themselves physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. Jose Calarco joined forces with Ana in 2014 and brings a long history of aboriginal shamanism and healing into Forrest Yoga events. Jose’s experience as a faith healer and medicine man spans more than 30 years and Forrest Yoga now incorporates ceremony, music, dance, ancient healing techniques, Veganism, and First Nation Philosophies. Students leave this training as teachers, bringing their personal discoveries and growth with them to share with the world. For more than four decades, Ana Forrest (@forrestyoga) has been bringing her particular brand of Fierce Medicine to the Yoga world. An internationally-recognized pioneer in Yoga and emotional healing, Ana created Forrest Yoga while working through healing from her own life’s trauma and experience. Jose Calarco, her co-director of Forrest Yoga, also comes from a long history with Shamanism and healing – just in a different sphere – that of music and the performing arts. Forrest Yoga is renowned as a powerfully physical, internally-focused practice that emphasizes how to carry a transformative experience off the mat and into daily life. In this episode, you’ll hear from Ana and Jose on: [09.55] Walking through the fear and trauma. Ana and Jose discuss their approach to overcoming fear and self-doubt by using their energy and experience to deepen their wisdom, quieten their minds and make courageous choices. [20.26] The principles and purpose of Forrest Yoga. Jose explains that their mission is to heal themselves, heal the planet and heal the people. Their unique method encourages intense self-inquiry and is informed by the wisdom of Native American and Australian Aboriginal cultures. [26.04] Ceremonies and sacred song. The couple describe their classes as spiritual gatherings, full of atmosphere and adventure, and focused on strengthening the connection between body and spirit. [33.35] Conscious eating. Jose and Ana actively promote the benefits of a plant-based diet and encourage others to consider veganism as a healthy, ethical and compassionate way of life. [43.30] The power of the arts. Students of Forrest Yoga are invited to sing, play instruments and take part in storytelling in order to stimulate their creativity and engage in a sublime spiritual experience. For our 36th episode, I sat down with Ana Forrest and Jose Calarco. I never had the pleasure to practice live in person with them, but I love the importance and the attention to healing that Forest Yoga stands for. The intentions behind the practices are truly powerful and the spectrum of tools to get reconnected to the body, to the truth, and to move through our suffering is really making those practices much richer, and so I wanted to sit down with them to chat about what healing possibility yoga can offer us.5 BIGGEST TAKE AWAY FROM THIS EPISODE1. Your life is infinitely precious. Don't waste it. Thinking that you are not enough is a lie. Tend to your life force and to your spirit in a respectful and reverent way. When you act in a way that doesn't serve you, deep down you know, so stop. Instead do things that help you evolve.2. Yoga alone might not be enough to heal deep wounds. The body needs movement and action, the mind needs to be still, the emotions need expression and the spirit needs nourishment. 3. To be in integrity, you have to connect with all parts of yourself.4. There's a lot of suffering and anguish in the yoga community, but yogis need to understand that you don't have to suffer. You can get out of pain, heal your pain and start to live a life that you are proud of.5. When you set an intention for class, pick something inside of you that needs heeling.QUESTIONS THEY ANSWERED DURING THIS EPISODE :Can you tell us a bit about yourself and what was the vision behind starting Forrest Yoga?Integrity is a pillar of forest yoga. How do you teach it?I think that before we can even connect to our integrity we need to move out numbness and connect to our bodies, so we can listen better to what it’s trying to tell us. How do you approach that? Where can people start? Can you give examples of tools you give students to get out of pain and heal? How do you work with the breath?SUBSCRIBE, RATE & REVIEW!GIVEAWAY WINNER. In this episode I speak with Finlay Wilson aka ‘The Kilted Yogi’. Finlay is a certified Forrest Yoga teacher, Forrest Yoga Guardian-in-training and Senior Yoga Alliance teacher. Currently, he is based in Dundee and is the co-founder and principal teacher of Heart Space Yoga & Bodyworks. He began yoga in 2007 following surgical procedures on both legs and used Yoga for his rehabilitation. Kilted Yoga has launched him and his practice into the spotlight with over 100 million worldwide views of his videos from the original Kilted Yoga video on BBC The Social to campaigns with companies and other Kilted friends. Kilted Yoga was released as a book in October 2017 and has been attracting people’s attention to yoga, Scotland and a healthier way of being and thinking. Today Finlay teaches classes all over the world, posts classes online, hosts online courses, presents at yoga conferences and performs asana demonstrations at events and fundraisers. Through his own rehabilitation physically and mentally, he feels that safe therapeutic touch was a cornerstone in his development and he delights in sharing that when he travels and teaches. For the last two years, he has spoken publicly and online through BBC The Social on LGBT issues, Male Mental Health, and the issues around suicide. This is something he is really passionate about being a voice for and the book, Kilted Yoga, has opened the doors for him to speak to people about how a yoga practice can help with mental health struggles but also about how to get fierce about what you are passionate about.
This episode is featuring Christian Coelho, Forrest Yoga teacher, body worker, student of shamanism and passionate Salsa dancer. Christian opened the first Forrest Yoga studio in Brazil (Rio de Janeiro) and is spreading his art of teaching and healing globally. Christian talks about The power of ceremony: what is it all about? Yoga ceremony as medicine: How Yoga and Shamanism complement each other his approach to modern yoga receptivity & healing: Leave space for magic the power of voice + he shares his favorite medicine song on the drum About Christian: Born/raised in Brazil and initially trained in Ashtanga & Rocket Vinyasa Yoga Christian found inspiration in the slower and intuitive style of Forrest Yoga. Christian loves to create an environment where students can explore many aspects of yoga - physical, metal, emotional and spiritual - so they can listen to the voices of intuition and develop a growing relationship with themselves. Further, Christian uses the power of Native-American ceremony to inspire his life and to teach from a place of fullness, so his students are always welcomed and guided to his best quality of attention. After being based in London for 4 years, Christian moved back to his home-city of Rio de Janeiro to open his yoga studio in 2018, called Casa 111. For more info: www.christiancoelhoyoga.com

Ana Forrest co-teaches and creates all of her workshops and events with her partner, Medicine Man Jose Calarco.Ana Forrest has been changing people's lives for nearly 40 years. An internationally recognized pioneer in yoga and emotional healing, Ana created Forrest Yoga while working through her own healing from her life's trauma and experience. With thousands of licensed practitioners around the world, Forrest Yoga is renowned as an intensely physical, internally focused practice that emphasises how to carry a transformative experience off the mat and into daily life. She continues to teach throughout the year around the world. Her book, Fierce Medicine: Breakthrough Practices to Heal the Body and Ignite the Spirit, was released May 2011.Jose Calarco has had a long and wide-ranging association in the arts in Australia and around the World for the last twenty five years, in this time he has covered almost the entire spectrum of experience, from producer and administrator of large-scale events, to innovative artistic direction in the fields of dance, film, theatre, yoga and music. Jose's strong management credentials have seen Descendance Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Dance Theatre grow into one of Australia's leading international Cultural Exports. José's ability to multi-task in marketing, box office, administration, sales, computers, performing musician, recording, writing and artistic direction was the foundation on which Descendance was built; the success of the company came with minimal financial Government support. Jose's was at the forefront of the world music and dance evolution in the eighties and nineties in Australia as a producer, promoter and performer. In this conversation Ana Forrest, Jose Calarco and Stuart discussed the power of ceremony, the importance of not obeying the 'monkey mind' or as Jose calls it, the 'motherfucker' and ways to break through the resistance that prevents so many people from leaping into their fullest potential. Finlay Wilson gained overnight international recognition for his "cheeky" and viral Kilted Yoga video, which aired on the BBC in 2017. But don't let that first impression fool you. The Kilted Yogi himself is quite serious about yoga. Finlay is a senior Forrest Yoga teacher who owns and operates a studio in his hometown of Dundee, Scotland, and he has also established the Young Yogis Project to bring free yoga to toddlers, children, teenagers and young people with special needs and disability. Finlay is a cook, published author, media activist, and of course, tartan enthusiast. In this episode, you'll hear from Finlay on: The darker side of willpower, and the role yoga played in Finlay's swapping alcoholism for bulimia and other forms of addiction How, if we aren't careful, we can use mental gymnastics to justify self-destructive behavior The validity of human feeling, and the difference between 'detachment' and emotional unavailability How Finlay parlayed 15 minutes of fame into a wide-reaching platform from which he speaks out on depression, abuse, and civil rights Announcements: Help me get to China for the IYSF World Asana Championships! For Annie, her grandmother’s sudden death at her grandfather’s wake would remain the most compelling story of her youth—a story her mother would retell at holiday gatherings so often because it drew folks in. Tonight’s story came from a text Annie sent a friend in the middle of the night after she realized that she couldn’t do what she promised she would. She credits her Forrest Yoga practice axiom: always speak your truth.

Welcome! My guest today is SHEro Carrie Hensley, who will teach us how to incorporate a regular yoga practice into our daily lives, even if it’s just five minutes! Carrie shares how yoga can change and empower your life. Carrie wants to connect people to their inner awareness and mindfulness. She owned an award-winning yoga studio for seven years before opening her own online yoga studio, Sacred Sangha. Join us for some inspiration from Carrie! In this episode, you'll hear: One of her first yoga teachers infused mindfulness into yoga without her even realising it. Mindfulness is awareness to thoughts, sensations, and emotions; it’s being in the present moment. Carrie explains the differences and similarities in the styles of yoga she practices. However you “come to the yoga mat” leads to personal growth and freedom. Carrie’s motivation to begin yoga classes was that she wanted “Madonna arms.” After Carrie’s first yoga class, the mental calming component taught her that yoga was much more than just exercise. She started immediately looking for opportunities to learn to be a yoga teacher. Her childhood was traumatic, and she has had eating disorders and even spent time in rehab; it’s been yoga that helped her come to wholeness. Early on, yoga had more of an impact on Carrie, but then the mindfulness brought benefits in various areas of her life. Carrie fits yoga into her everyday life; she practices 6 days/week, morning and evening. “I’m a much nicer person when I’m practising yoga regularly.” Some people who are new to yoga want to experience it in the privacy and comfort of their own home, so Carrie’s online yoga studio helps with that. Sacred Sangha offers live online classes, both monthly and weekly, along with e-courses, monthly themes, retreats, and even a book club! Carrie teaches breathing techniques, chanting, and meditation—exploring them all in her teaching. The community aspect of Carrie’s online clients is a huge benefit. One way to practice mindfulness is to keep a journal, writing down how you move throughout your days. To begin incorporating yoga, look for beginner classes, but don’t be afraid to try different teachers until you find the right one for you. There are many resources are available to help with yoga, meditation, and mindfulness. I interview the inspiring female entrepreneur Health Coach, Writer and Forrest Yoga teacher Lizzy Nichol. Lizzy and I connected at a networking event and since then she has been a shining light in my life with her approach to building a business, food and the mind-body connection and the emotional side of eating and looking after ourselves, and Lizzy helped me through a very anxiety-ridden time where I had begun to drop back into bad habits with my eating and self-limiting talk. Lizzie's work is rooted in healing not just in the way we look at food and what we eat, but the emotions we attach to that food and why and I just love her all encompassing holistic approach to health coaching. In this interview we talk fears and self doubts that come up not only with the way we eat but with the way we present ourselves when building a business, and Lizzy shares her story and how her life has completely changed since she decided to go all in and go after what she wanted and really make a commitment to how she nourished her body. We also talk about how a lack of self love is one of the biggest drivers to holding us back, especially us ladies, and how we can overcome this potentially debilitating mindset. I know you'll love listening to Lizzie's wisdom so sit back, enjoy and don't forget to leave a comment below. x
