K-State RB Dylan Edwards was named Special Teams player of the week after taking one to the house against Arizona last week.
Craig Peterson's moxie is a well-conditioned muscle, one of the many that he's developed as a professional athlete in the Arena Football League (AFL), Indoor Football League (IFL), and the National Arena League (NAL).Craig's moxie has been built by long hours of doing the work and responding to setbacks with a can-do mindset, mental toughness, consistency, adhering to his routine, teamwork, and listening to his trainers and coaches. He believes in competition—against himself and others—accompanied by fun. For Craig, without the fun to accompany the hard work, what's the point?Known in football as “Craig the Leg,” he has turned rejection into motivation, a signature trait of Craig's career, in which he's won four Arena championships, along with two Special Teams Player of the Year designations and two First Team All-NAL accolades.Craig doesn't take well to being told he can't do something. Such was the case with football; when being told he couldn't play by his college team's head coach, he doubled down and tried even harder.Fast forward the tape reels, and he's just been re-signed with IFL's 2023 Champions, the Bay Area Panthers, for the 2024 season as their kicker. He's also the Specialists football coach at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York.Craig took up track and field during his early college years at Herkimer County Community College. What began as a way to get back into shape after burnout from an ultra-competitive high school soccer career became an unexpected rejuvenation to his athletic trajectory. He became an All-American in the decathlon, an extremely gratifying achievement. His professional football career began in 2014, several years out of college. Without the benefit of playing college football, he single-mindedly dedicated himself to training and tryouts and started his career as a kicker. The rest is Craig's moxie history. This episode of Main Street Moxie is proudly sponsored by Meadowscapes and Elyse Harney Real Estate.Resources and Social MediaCraig Peterson InstagramCraig Peterson FacebookCraig Peterson X (formerly known as Twitter)Craig Peterson YouTubeCraig the Leg TrailerSupport the show

Hour 4: Tyler Bass named Special Teams Player of the Month with two straight big games.
It may have been CU's last best hope for a victory last weekend, but the Buffs fell at home to Arizona State, 42-34. I am joined for this podcast by Brad Geiger and Neil Langland, and we will start with a recap of the loss to Arizona State, including the failings of the defense to get off the field, which were only slightly offset by CU's best offensive output of the season, and some special plays by the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week and the Pac-12 Special Teams Player of the Week, Jordyn Tyson.Next, before diving into our “T.I.P.S.” for the game against No. 8 Oregon, we will debate the pros and cons of sitting freshman quarterback Owen McCown. McCown has played in four games this season, and, if he sits out the last four, will preserve his redshirt, and still have four years of eligibility remaining. If he's healthy, should he play? There is also a discussion of the creation of the Buffs4Life NIL Collective. CU fans have been clamoring for the past 16 months for a Collective, a pool of dollars to lure high school recruits and transfers to play at CU, and now one exists. Will this Collective be the light at the end of CU's long dark tunnel? So ... Can the Buffs find a way to beat the 30-point spread that Las Vegas has put on the game? ... Or will the Ducks, playing before a national ESPN audience with a 1:30 p.m., MT, kickoff, be looking to impress the College Football Playoff committee with an eyebrow raising rout? ... Will J.T. Shrout be CU's quarterback the remainder of the season, or will Owen McCown be allowed back onto the field when he's able? ... Is the Buffs4Life Collective a breath of fresh air in an otherwise suffocating fall for the Buff Nation, or is this going to prove to be yet another example of Colorado - and its fan base - failing to compete in the new age of college football?

Hank Bauer, a record shattering running back from tiny D-3 Cal Lutheran, was picked up in 1977 by the San Diego Charger and went on to become, perhaps, the greatest special teams player in NFL historyBauer holds the NFL single-season record for most special-teams tackles with 52, a record which will never be broken (28 tackles is second). He worked from 1998 to 2014 as the color commentator for the Chargers radio broadcast.Bauer was honored in November 2009 as one of the 50 Greatest Chargers in team history, as part of the Chargers' 50th Anniversary season celebration. Michael Turk is the punter for Arizona State University, and Zach Von Rosenberg is the former punter for the LSU Tigers. Both are leading punters in their conference. In 2020 Turk was named 1st Team All Pac-12, and Von Rosenberg was named 2nd Team All-SEC. Both were named semi-finalists for the 2019 or 2020 Ray Guy Award, an annual award given to college football’s top punter. Michael and Zach have each become top NFL punting prospects in NCAA Football. In 2019 Turk had a breakout season. He averaged 46 yards per punt and scored a 97.2 Simple Kicking Punting Rating (SKPR), which ranks 20th best in the past 8 years of tracking college football punting data. Secondly, 2019 had some incredible talent in punting: Max Duffy, Kentucky, 2019 Ray Guy Winner, and Jack Fox, Rice University, and current punter for the Detroit Lions, both of which are Simple Kicking’s own. Additionally, there was Sterling Hofrichter, Syracuse, and current punter for the Atlanta Falcons, Joseph Charlton, South Carolina, and current punter for the Carolina Panthers, and Tommy Townsend, University of Florida, and current punter for the Kansas City Chiefs. In 2019 Von Rosenberg was a key asset the to the LSU Tiger 2020 Von Rosenberg had a breakout season improving 6.91% year-over-year on the SKPR. He averaged 43.95 yards per punt, 42.0 net, and scored a 96.6 Simple Kicking Punting Rating which ranked him 9th overall in 2020. 2020 was another strong year in punting with Pressley Harvin III (Georgia Tech) winning the Ray Guy Award. Plus, Zach finished with 1.0% of the following: Jake Camarda (Georgia), Lou Hedley (Miami), Jake Julien (Eastern Michigan), Kirk Christodoulou (PITT), Jacob Finn (Florida), and Tory Taylor (Iowa). Both have earned all-conference Player of the Week or other awards. Michael Turk was named Pac-12 Special Teams Player of the Week after he averaged 51.6 yards per punt at USC. Von Rosenberg was named Ray Guy Punter of the Week after he averaged 48.9 yards per punt at Arkansas. A few years ago both Turk and Von Rosenberg were not punting. Zach was a pitcher in the Pittsburgh Pirates minor league system then got cut. Subsequently, he walked on to the LSU team as a tight end, while Turk was not playing high school football at all. Again, they are now both incredibly talented punters with dreams on the highest levels in the sport! Most families in America throw the pigskin around on Thanksgiving, but the Turk family is at games punting in the parking lot. He comes from a family where punting his fairly common; his uncle Matt spent more than a decade and a half in the NFL playing for the Washington Redskins (now known as Washington Football Team.) His brother Ben Turk punted for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the early 2010s. Beginning his collegiate career as a Lafayette Leopard, he played his first career game. Not playing a single game of high school football, Turk has made remarkable progress. So after the 2019 season he declared for the 2020 NFL Draft. His progress shined off the field in the weight room where he posted 25 reps of 225 pounds on the benchpress. Again, remarkable. The progress continued in 2020. Although playing an abbreviated season with fewer reps, Turk blasted the ball averaging 47.21 yards per punt. This ranked 2nd in college football behind Harvin. Turk was named first team Pac-12 in 2020 for the second consecutive season. Von Rosenberg grew up in Louisiana, graduated from Zachary High School, and signed with the Pirates out of high school. After being cut Von Rosenberg enrolled at LSU where he decided to walk on for the football team. At one point he was the oldest player in college football. This episode covers the improbabilities of becoming one of the nation’s top punters. If you enjoyed this episode you might like the Aussie Roundtable as well.

Ross Peterson and Erick Zamora put on today's show giving an update on how the Des Moines Buccaneers have fared lately on the road and they also talk about Sarah Fuller's accomplishment kicking for Vanderbilt but discuss if she should have been named SEC co-Special Teams Player of the Week. They finish out the program discussing NFL stories like Baltimore at Pittsburgh once again being pushed back and the San Francisco 49ers playing some home games at the home of the Arizona Cardinals.
C'mon now. A squib kick down the field and you're awarded special play recognition? What's going on? Absolutely agree with Sarah's accomplishments but "player" recognition for just one not so average kick? How about something different in her recognition? Give the award of the week to somebody who really deserved it. Not just a one kick wonder. I applaud Sarah, I do. But is she really Special Teams PLAYER of the week? I have a little more to say about that in today's rant.

Episode 16 of the Simple Kicking Show is a Roundtable featuring the TCU and SMU kickers. Griffin Kell is the kicker for the TCU Horned Frogs coached by Gary Patterson, and Chris Naggar is the kicker for the SMU Mustangs coached by Sonny Dykes. Both are Arlington High School graduates who played for Head Coach Scott Peach, which made this episode unique because both Kell and Naggar have been training with one another for nearly 8 seasons. This roundtable covers the differences between making normal field goals and converting crunch time kicks. Both kickers shed light on the hard work and dedication required to perform at a high level. How to become a better kicker through confidence, and how adversity builds mental toughness. Griffin Kell was named as the Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Week for converting 4/4 field goals against the University of Texas. A road win at Darrell K. Royal Stadium-Texas Memorial Stadium, Kell firmly cemented his name as an elite kicker. TCU has a long list of solid kickers, most recently the Horned Frogs had a Lou Groza Semifinalist in 2019 in Jonathan Song. Early in a career, Kell is showing that his hard work, endless pursuit of progress, and passion for kicking will lead to many more clutch kicks. Chris Naggar finished his undergraduate playing career at the University of Texas at Austin, waiting for an opportunity to kick field goals. Naggar had the opportunity to train with Phil Dawson while at Texas. (Dawson was a 20 year NFL veteran who played for the Cleveland Browns, Arizona Cardinals and San Francisco 49ers.) Naggar has applied the lessons learned, wisdom, and self-belief to a lights out senior campaign for the SMU Mustangs. Kicking the game winning 43 yard field goal against a Top 25 ranked Memphis Tigers squad, Naggar was 3/3 on field goals (27, 25, 43), tallied a handful of touchbacks on kickoff, and placed two punts inside the 20 yards line while averaging 45.8 yards on 4 punts. This earned Naggar American Athletic Conference Special Teams Player of the Week for the third straight week. Similar to Kell, Naggar shares how he has kicked for nearly 10 years, which builds confidence required to convert clutch field goals. Naggar’s story is similar to Ty Long’s. Long is the Punter for the Los Angeles Chargers. You can hear his story of overcoming coaches and scouts who overlooked him through hard work and grit here. Fantasy Football Party with Anthony Maggio, Bo Mitchell & John Tuvey
Darkness falls across the land The midnight hour is close at hand (Narrator: Midnight? Maybe try shorter shows for a change.) Creatures crawl in search of blood To terrorize y’all’s neighborhood (Especially if your Halloween handout is devoid of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, 100 Grand bars, or blue Tootsie Rolls.) And whosoever shall be found Without the soul for getting down (Not to be confused with Beowulf Minshew Jr. the Third or Philip Rivers, both of whom have outstanding mustaches and clearly possess the soul for getting down.) Must stand and face the hounds of hell And rot inside a corpse’s shell (Speaking of Joe Flacco, should you actually consider picking up Brandon Allen or Ryan Finley?) The foulest stench is in the air The funk of forty thousand years (That’s 400 centuries of fantasy football wisdom, brought down from the mountains by Bo who tells us: know your league’s trade deadline) And grizzly ghouls from every tomb Are closing in to share your doom (No, it’s just Sam Darnold; he’s in town to play the Dolphins, you dumb ass!) And though you fight to stay alive Your body starts to shiver (That’s just a natural reaction to the high ABV content of Hoppin Frog Toris the Tyrant, a splendid Russian Imperial Stout.) For no mere mortal can resist The evil of… Anthony Miller. (Ha-Ha… Clinton-Dix. It’s his quarterback that elicits maniacal laughter.) Week 9 presented Tres Amigos de Futbol la Fantasia Fiesta with an opportunity to get scary on Halloween Eve, and they took full advantage. In addition to the usual regrets (why did we leave 2V’s mic open when talking about Robert Kraft and Younghoe Koo?), bulletins from the Channel SKOR news desk, and a 50/50 lineup that 60 percent of the time works every time, tantric listeners (we hear Sting is a big fan) will learn: Magsh built a horrifyingly Dolphin-stocked 50/50 lineup and once wore a Freddie Krueger shirt to Winter Park, scaring straight Paul Edinger’s kicking style; Bo pre-regretted starting Lamar Jackson against the Patriots this week and dispensed costume advice guaranteed to make your Halloween party-going more functional and comfortable; And 2V took a victory lap after nailing Dan Bailey as the NFL’s Special Teams Player of the Week before tossing back an Indeed Danzig, prompting him to break into “Mother” in his best Glenn Danzig voice randomly throughout the show. Christophe Mulumba-Tshimanga - Special Teams player
“Live in the moment. Take one day at a time. One play at a time.” That’s great advice from the Minnesota Vikings Wide Receiver who went from small town Detroit Lakes, Minnesota to Special Teams Player of the Year last year for the Minnesota Vikings. In this interview, Adam talks about the keys to his success including his experience trying out with the Vikings, then making the roster, and now being a key player for the team. He talks about mindset principles he learned during mental training in college and how he applies the principles. He talks about staying in the present moment, letting go of mistakes, and not dwelling on the past. He shares what he sees separate the best in the NFL from the rest, and the role of mindset in performance. A must-listen-to interview for anyone that wants to step up their game and understand how. You can follow Adam on twitter @athielen19 or on Istagram.
