That's 160 lengths of an Olympic sized swimming pool.Swim is a new creation in-development by Jivesh Parasram and Tom Arthur Davis that imagines the effects of migration on the self. Originally conceived as a performance event with a live endurance swimming audience component, Swim is being reimagined as a walking meditation/audio play for the SummerWorks Lab---------------This SummerWorks Lab workshop presentation of Swim was produced by Pandemic Theatre in collaboration with Theatre Conspiracy. It was presented by Why Not Theatre, with development support from Crow's Theatre. Swim was written and created by Jivesh Parasram & Tom Arthur Davis, in collaboration with Tim Carlson, Gavan Cheema, and David Mesiha. No matter what community you come from — city, suburb, or rural — you probably know where the local library is. This week on “In Conversation” we talked with Lee Burchfield, director of the Louisville Free Public Library. We discussed the state of the library system — such as finances and government allocations, ongoing negotiations with the library employees, and what new norms are in place for checking out books, using computers and being a community resource now that COVID-19 rates have declined. We also discussed SummerWorks with its director Chris Locke. SummerWorks connects local youths with employers and jobs. We learned about the program, and how this year's job market is affecting it.

A hyphenated existence, my life is my work, my work is my life. Some people can categorize and separate but those of us who are marginalized can’t afford to do so. Sometimes I wonder if our work has had to evolve into critical interrogation out of necessity? If we lived in a decolonized world what would we be making? Who would we be serving? I think we are all capable and deserving of knowing and living ourselves into these answers. This workshop invites participants to reflect and confront on who gets to have a seat at the table.” – Shaista LatifTickets: http://progressfestival.org/programming/how-i-learned-to-serve-tea

Exploring the realities of Indigenous, Settler and Newcomer experience with the political process, this play asks: Do we have a voice and does that voice count?Following the wildly successful run of The Public Servant, Common Boots Theatre delivers a provocative and hilarious investigation of how Canadians engage in democracy. The team of six actors (Augusto Bitter, Rachel Cairns, Joelle Peters, Anand Rajaram, Rose Stella, and Courtenay Stevens) take on over 35 characters. Brooke is an award winning actor who, when she was in her teens, launched her career by working as a production assistant at the Shaw Festival, often driving actors to and from Toronto. She has an expansive career but I decided to focus our chat on her solo performance "Trudeau Stories." She met Trudeau at the National Theatre School of Canada where she was studying acting. They shared a dance at the school and their cheek to cheek moment sparked a relationship that lasted years. Brooke documented the relationship with Trudeau in a journal and in 2007 created the solo performance, "Trudeau Stories" based on her time with Trudeau. We talk about her time with Trudeau and how she developed the solo show.
