On January 20th, 2023, Larry Ray was sentenced to 60 years in prison for racketeering conspiracy, violent crime in aid of racketeering, extortion, sex trafficking, forced labor, tax evasion, and money laundering offenses. Daniel Barban Levin escaped the cult and used writing to process his mind control experience. He also wanted to do something to help his friends, who were still psychologically imprisoned. “People are dying from your fatphobia and that's wild. We are so hung up on the way theatre has looked forever that we can't change our perspective enough to literally save people's lives.”  TW: Discussion of eating disorders. I found Greg on TikTok. Greg is the founder of EveryBODY on Stage, which aims to break down stigma and fat-phobia in the arts. There is such multi-layered dialogue when it comes to each person's experience. Being a CoVid long hauler changed my body by gaining weight – and even when I find the positives and self love when it comes to myself, my body, and the industry, it's rooted in privilege.  And when it comes to weight and age – why is it that a bigger body in educational theatre equals playing someone older or someone not worthy of love? How does that affect someone in their formative years? Why is it we are praised for losing weight, even when it's done in an unhealthy way? Greg and I breakdown how fatphobia dominates the theatre industry, while shedding light on the people who are doing their best to fix this. WHAT IS A CDA? On today's episode, Greg and Katelyn chat with Amy about her role as a CDA and the benefit CDAs provide in speech therapy! Amy Bateman is a graduate of Memorial University and has recently finished the Communicative Disorders Assistant program at St. Lawrence College. Throughout this interview, Amy shares with us her experiences in this program and explains exactly what a CDA is, how they differ from an SLP, and all the ways in which a CDA can enhance a client's experience. While sharing her own stories from the program and from her placements, Amy also emphasizes the need for more CDAs (especially in Newfoundland & Labrador) and for the valuable work that they do to be more recognized in the community. Greg and Katelyn discuss ways in which SSL could support CDAs in NL and encourage Amy to keep advocating for CDAs and the incredible work that they do! This episode is dedicated in loving memory of Jaclyn Aguiar, who left us before the world could see what an incredible CDA and person she would become. Jaclyn was a student in the Communicative Disorders Assistant program at St. Lawrence College. She was a straight A student who had the charisma and motivation to move mountains. Jaclyn enjoyed the CDA program as it provided academic challenges and the opportunity to learn about communicative disorders in the field of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology. Jaclyn became a close friend of mine over the course of the CDA program. Although our friendship began virtually, it had no impact on how real and true our friendship was.
