We met at a construction site, and he offered me a job as a cook at his house in Takoradi, because I needed a stable job, I accepted. Two weeks later, I moved in with him, expecting a comfortable place to stay. I started cooking his Chinese delicacies because he didn't like Ghanaian food, and I wanted to make him happy. One night, he proposed I become his girlfriend, promising a monthly salary of 1,000 cedis and additional benefits, because I trusted him, I accepted. Initially, he fulfilled his promises, but later stopped paying me and providing the benefits he had promised. When I asked him about the payments, he claimed he would combine them and give me everything at once, but it was just an excuse. However, I soon realized I had become his sex toy, and he would have sex with me at least three times daily, fondling my breasts and sucking them like a baby, which made me feel humiliated and degraded. He also had anal sex with me without my consent. After months of exploitation, he failed to pay the promised money, failed to facilitate my travel as promised, and conspired with his boss to evict me from his house, leaving me homeless and vulnerable. I demand justice and compensation for the suffering I endured. - Lady demands.

In 2019, face2face Africa named him one of the five African animators who can give their Hollywood counterparts a run for the money. In 2021, his short 3D animated film ‘ROOM 5' was nominated at Annecy International Animation Film Festival making him the only West African director to be nominated for the year and one of four films from Africa. Edward Enninful is the editor-in-chief of British Vogue and the editorial director of Vogue in Europe. Edward was born in the port city of Takoradi in Ghana in 1972. His father was a major in the Ghanaian army and, following a period of political instability, the family fled the country and settled in London. Edward's interest in fashion dates back to his childhood in Ghana when he watched his seamstress mother at work making dresses for clients including the President's wife. As a teenager in London he was spotted by the stylist Simon Foxton and began modelling for the irreverent fashion magazine i-D. At 18 Edward became the magazine's fashion director, the youngest person ever to hold this post at an international fashion title. In 2017 Edward became editor-in-chief of British Vogue and since his appointment he has championed inclusivity and diversity. His cover stars have included Rihanna, Oprah Winfrey and he recently featured the first man – actor Timothée Chalamet. Edward was awarded an OBE for services to diversity in the fashion industry in 2016. He married his partner Alec Maxwell this year and they live in London with their dog Ru.

Discussing the fake Takoradi kidnap story, jail term, and matters arising with Raymond Acquah and Mamavi Owusu-Aboagye,
In this conversation, we talk with Trixton May about his clinical experiences in Takoradi, Ghana. Trixton took himself to Ghana as a second-year paramedic student with aspirations to serve in areas less fortunate and developed contexts than his reality back in the UK. In the discussion, we explore the variety of experiences and revelations he had in this developing healthcare system. Trixton has written a reflection 'Healthcare in Ghana – The Harsh Reality of a Developing Country'. In the reflection, Trixton denotes the socio-economic demographics of Ghana and the social deprivation that healthcare serves in the region. He also recalls his anecdotal experience in each domain of emergency care. We examine some of the patients and pathologies that he observed in his time within the emergency department. We also examine the challenges of working in a low resource environment and the innovation that is required at certain times due to the overwhelming clinical need. We then examine the utility of being exposed to extreme poverty and the consequential reframing of the NHS in light of this. We delve into the advantages of debriefing in some of the more traumatic cases and reprocessing the narrative to ensure there is some cognitive reprieve. We also examine the adaptation that has to occur in the absence of diagnostics and equipment and drugs. We finally look at the utility of going with an established organisation that has both in-country presence, security environment scanning and channels of support as required. A telephone interview with former Ghanaian President Jerry John Rawlings. The interview is unique because it is one of the first interviews he gave as ex-President, after nearly two decades as an African Head of State. I conducted the interview when I worked as News Editor for Skyy Power FM based in Takoradi, Ghana. I called to to speak to the former president at the time when his phone number was possibly a state secret. That was on 23 May 2001. I published a version of the interview on AfricanPod's YouTube Channel 12 years after it was recorded, and it has been played more than 50 thousand times. The context of the interview is that President Rawlings reportedly kept more than 20 soldiers from the 64 Infantry Regiment as his personal bodyguards on leaving office. In what seemed like a swift move, the new government of then President John Kufuor replaced all of the soldiers with Police personnel, much to the displeasure of Rawlings. Just hours after the security re-arrangement, and with the pain fresh on his mind, I called Rawlings on his mobile phone from the Newsroom to get his reaction. For the records, the Government spokesperson at the time, Elizabeth Ohene explained there was nothing unusual about the move, because the sitting President Kufuor was also being guarded by Police, and former President Rawlings would not be treated differently. I have chosen to make this historic interview available in audio format here on AfricanPod - 18 years after it was first recorded. Enjoy it, for all it is worth. Rob Walker returns to the port of Takoradi, the hub for Ghana's new oil industry, to find out what difference oil has made to its residents.
Two and a half years ago, oil started flowing from Ghana's first commercial offshore oilfield. Shortly after the taps were turned on, Rob Walker visited the hub for the new industry: the once sleepy port of Takoradi. He found a mixture of ambition and uncertainty in a rapidly expanding boomtown. Rob now returns to Takoradi to meet people he met last time and find out whether their dreams have been realised. Producer: Katharine Hodgson.
In December, Ghana turned on the taps and began pumping its first commercial oil. Production will top 100,000 barrels a day this year -- enough the government believes to more than double the country's economic growth. At the centre of this oil rush is the once sleepy city of Takoradi. Already things are starting to change here: new businesses setting up to service the offshore oil industry, an increase in population, and, spiralling expectations. So can Ghana - one of the most stable countries in Africa - escape the curse of violence and corruption that has afflicted other big oil producers on the continent? Rob Walker visits Takoradi to find out, and he'll be returning to observe the transformation of Africa's newest oil city over the coming years. Producer: Katharine Hodgson.
What happens when you take a run down African city and introduce a brand new oil industry worth billions of dollars? For Assignment Rob Walker reports from port city of Takoradi on the impact oil is having.
