Here are 3 big things you need to know—   One —  Experts across the country are preparing to launch research missions during the eclipse.  NASA will launch planes that will observe the outer layer of the sun and the dust ring that orbits it.  These only become visible when most of the sun's light is blocked out.  Other scientists are set to study the quieting of wildlife, the effect on communications and lowering temperatures.   Two— For the second straight year, the Motor City Furry Con has been hit with a bomb threat.  Sunday morning just before 9, a threat forced the Ann Arbor Marriott Ypsilanti at Eagle Creek to be evacuated.  The hotel reopened just after 12:30 p.m. after an investigation determined the threat was not credible.  The convention held its afternoon lineup and charity auction without incident.  And number three — The Israeli military is withdrawing ground troops from the southern Gaza Strip.  The IDF said on Sunday that its 98th division is leaving the Strip to "recuperate and prepare for future operations."  No further details were given, and it's unclear if the withdrawal is related to Israel's plan to invade the southern city of Rafah, where it says Hamas militants are hiding.

Winifred Jacqueline Fraser Bisset came into this world in the latter days of WWII, in the Fall of 1944 to a Scotch GP and French lawyer cum housewife who biked her way into an airlift out of Occupied France and her new life in the rather rural climes of Surrey. A short modeling career led to roles in such disparate films (in quality as well as  type) as The Knack and How to Get It, Audrey Hepburn vehicle Two For the Road and Roman Polanski's Cul de Sac, launching her into a career in cinema marked by roles in such highlights as The Detective (with Frank Sinatra), Bullitt (with Steve McQueen), Le Magnifique (with Jean Paul Belmondo), The Mephisto Waltz (with Alan Alda) and Truffaut's excellent Day For Night, before settling into big budget all star oddities like the multi-director Casino Royale, Airport, the Albert Finney Murder on the Orient Express, Who is Killing the Great Chefs of Europe (with George Segal), St. Ives (with Charles Bronson), The Deep (with Nick Nolte) and even Wild Orchid (with Mickey Rourke), smoking up the screen in a manner not altogether dissimilar to the previously covered Charlotte Rampling and earning herself both Golden Globes and France's Legion d'Honneur for her efforts.  Join us as we talk another of our favorite ladies of 70's cinema, the lovely and talented Jacqueline Bissett! Welcome to the no panic zone where I am getting it right and setting people straight each and every day—have no fear—because I am willing to wade into the middle of all the socialist propaganda machines—and slay the lies—big and small—giddy up kids—we've got work to do—   Here are 3 Big things you need to know—   One— Hundreds of millions of Chinese have been stricken with Covid 19—and it only took about 3 weeks—the question is why—and why now?    Two— For the first time ever—the Tennessee Valley Authority had to initiate rolling blackouts across several regions—to keep up with power demand from the big blizzard—tell me again how the Green New Deal thingy is working out—   Three—I will get to that and a lot more today—but I want to ask you something really important to start—and I really need you to listen and consider what I have to say—   I will give you a little background on where I have been since we last talked—and I hope you had a fabulous Christmas—   So since I was here last—I got very ill—it happened early last Tuesday morning—I caught a fabulous stomach flu—or something of that nature—and by Wednesday evening I was in the hospital—thankfully the surgery I was threatened with—did not happen—and I was released without having to undergo a Christmas blood letting—so that's good news—   By the time I got out—the big winter storm was rolling in and I had a very short window to close out any shopping—and in an effort to close that deal—Ivey and I headed out into the Arctic blast—less than ten minutes later however—an 18 year old kid was ricocheting his Chevy Malibu off the side of our Suburban at about 35 miles per hour—you see he didn't have the experience to know that when its all ice—that is way too fast—when I walked up to him in the fierce icy winds—he looked at his car—which did not far very well against the land-yacht and I thought he was going to burst into tears—he looked at me “but I was only going 30 miles an hour”—that's right kid—on roads you should be going 10—anyway—I told him I was glad he was ok—and told him, remember this and learn from it— the poor lad did get a ticket—“too fast for conditions” but that isn't keeping the Suburban out of the body shop for a couple of weeks and me probably paying higher insurance rates—   Ans so it goes.   Anyway, from there—I discovered the greatest cakes ever made at a place called Nothing Bundt Cakes—had family and friends over for Christmas Eve and then enjoyed the Greatest Christmas ever—before Ivey's flight home with her grandparents got cancelled yesterday and I made about 3 round trips to DTW in Detroit— it was like I was on the freeway for several hours—and accomplished nothing—   Which brings me all the way back to where I started—and that is asking you a very important question—and I do it with the background of, we all have very busy lives and things going on and distractions—and that makes it hard sometimes to focus on what is really happening—and what is really important as we look into yet another new year—hoping for it to be better than the last—   So here is the question—   What if, the country you've imagined you live in your whole life, you don't and maybe you never did.    What if The United States was over-run by special interests and political power players that were shaping this country and the world long before you were born.   Back-room deals, power plays and largesse were all being moved around on game boards you've never seen and in fact didn't even know existed.    What if you are actually less than zero?   You weren't even a pawn because you never rose to that status. What if in the real scheme of things, you truly don't matter.    The America you were promised in grade school didn't exist then and it sure as hell doesn't exist now. That seems more clear each passing day.   What if we are just little cogs in a giant machine that has been built to serve powers and people far beyond your reach and some almost beyond your comprehension and your purpose is to feed that machine in some way—whether you realize it or not?   I know—pretty depressing—BUT it is an important question—I mean it really is the same one, just phrased in different ways.    From where I stand—people like George Soros and Klaus Schwaub—and thousands more you have never heard of—are yanking your strings and yanking your chain and there isn't much to be done about it on most days.   However, when barbarians like Donald Trump or Elon Musk challenge the elitist status quo- the pre-ordained globalist body politic is revulsed and the power brokers consolidate to eradicate the intruders. If you stand with them, you too could be eradicated. Remember you will own nothing and be happy- that includes your own freedom!   How else do you explain programs like Stellar Wind, that came in the backdraft of 9-11 and under the umbrella of the Patriot Act—a move that turned the entire intelligence apparatus of the United States government inward—to keep track of each and every one of us—   The social credit score that we hear about in China—is just as contagious as Covid 19 that is now ravishing that nation—with something like 250 million cases in 3 weeks time—but unlike a pandemic—the virus of political power is far stronger—and it doesn't dissipate over time—in fact I would suggest the sickness of power—seems to get increasingly worse—and the when the Trump's and Elon's expose it to sunlight—those behind it—and their propaganda machines go into over-drive—   The barbarians are “threats to democracy”—if you question the vaccine, you are a danger to you neighbors and the nation—   If you refuse to comply—you are a threat, possibly someone who should be Red Flagged for non-compliance and anti-social disorder—surely any firearms you have must be taken immediately—   Questioning the local school board can trigger a call the very politically biased FBI—and can even land you on a Domestic Terror watch list—or get you banned from flying on commercial aircraft—   Do you think this is just ‘conspiracy theory' insanity that has run off the tracks?   Well, let's be honest, you know as well as I do—that at any moment with or without cause, the government in one of its many incarnations can look at what I am writing on my computer, read my text messages, examine the websites I visit and even create deep fake videos purporting me—or anyone else doing something nefarious, that never actually happened.   How far are the power brokers will to go?   Clearly they will lie about the mass collection of data—right to sitting members of Congress, that will sit there like the neutered sheep they are and do nothing about it. James Clapper comes to mind.   They will lie on TV about espionage carried out against America that never actually happened—The Steele Dossier comes to mind.   They will claim that they are looking out for you as they confiscate farms in the Netherlands—and bulldoze coal fired power plants here at home. Then crow about how we need more windmills when power companies leave people to die in the cold and the dark.   Seriously?   Do you think the Nordstream pipelines blew themselves up? Do you really think Russia destroyed its own infra-structure? Follow the money and the power and you will see that is not supported by a single logical argument!   I do sit here today however—and I know we have the power to correct the path we are on—BUT we must stay true to ourselves and the promise that we learned about America—   We must stay true to the idea of America—and fight against the lies we are fed each day—spit them out—think for yourself—challenge the status quo—and stand up for what you know is right—   I know this—the vast majority of Americans—know even now—the difference between right a wrong—and so do you—I am counting on it.

Episode 45 of Season 5 went out live on Rebel Rock Radio at 19h00 on 10 Nov 2022.  The show kicked off with ACDC and a track off Let There Be Rock called ‘Overdose'.  From there we continued with Black Stone Cherry, Def Leppard, and White Zombie.  We went into the ‘00s and cranked the Nu Metal with Drowning Pool and the title track off the Sinner album, the one that gave the world 'Bodies' and 'Broken Home' off Papa Roach's Infest album.  Strangely enough, we went from that into some mellow blues, courtesy of Popa Chubby and ZZ Top with Trouble and Blue Jean Blues respectively.  It was the Papa to Popa connection that did it. From the Blues, we checked out Iron Maiden and another track off Power Slave called ‘Back In the Village'.  Herman Frank, ex of Accept got a look-in with a track off his latest album Two For a Lie.  We stayed in Germany for some Rammstein and a bit later 'Blackout' from Scorpions, another song written about Eskom.  A highlight of the show was the back-to-back pairing of Tony Martin and Joe Lynn Turner, two vocalists who have played in the best bands in the world and have both released solo alums in the last 12 months.  Joe Lynn Turner has Peter Tägtgren producing and doing the guitar work and it is one hell of a combination.  We had some more Nu Metal courtesy of Limp Bizkit and then used Courtney Love's band Hole,  with a track called 'Rock Star' to lead us into a quick farewell and RIP to Nazareth's Dan McCafferty who passed away this week.  As explained on the show Nazareth are a very special band to those of us growing up in the '70s and '80s and we thanked Dan for writing and performing some awesome classic songs.   We took in 'When Your Love is Gone' by Assie legend Jimmy Barnes and then spent nearly nine minutes on the Thin Lizzy classic ‘Still In Love With You'.  It came off the Live album called Life and features all the Thin Lizzy guitarists Eric Bell, Scott Gorham, Brian Robertson, Gary Moore, Snowy White, and John Sykes.  Texas Hippie Coalition moved the show out of the ballads and Night Ranger and Queensrÿche continued the excellent medicine and took it to the next level.  The new Queensrÿche, Digital Noise Alliance' is fantastic, check it out.  This show just had too much material and not enough time.  We tipped the hat to Judas Priest for their well-deserved and long overdue inclusion into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, we listened to another awesome Vivian Campbell solo and heard how powerful Andrew Freeman is on a track called ‘Year of The Gun' and we squeezed in an amazingly emotional track from My Chemical Romance called 'The World is Ugly'.  The consensus on the chat was that MCR are correct on this point.  Cheers all, see you next week, I hope you enjoy the episode.     Artists featured:  ACDC, Black Stone Cherry, Def Leppard, White Zombie, Drowning Pool, Papa Roach, Popa Chubby, ZZ Top, Iron Maiden, Herman Frank, Rammstein, Anthrax, Dead City Ruins, Burning Rain, Skid Row, Five Finger Death Punch, Scorpions, Tony Martin, Joe Lynn Turner, Leslie West Tribute, Limp Bizkit, Hole, Nazareth, The Gaslight Anthem, Jimmy Barnes, Thin Lizzy, Texas Hippie Coalition, Night Ranger, Queensrÿche, Halestorm, Judas Priest, Last In Line, Green Day, My Chemical Romance, Johnny Cash, In Flames     The Story of Rock and Roll. Episode 44 of season 5 aired on 3 November 2022 at 7 pm sharp on Rebel Rock Radio.  It was a cracker of an episode with plenty of new albums and plenty of rock from around the world.  First out the blocks we had The Beatles' classic ‘Day Tripper' off a tribute to The Beatles album called Butchering the Beatles.  This track featured Jack Blades, Tommy Shaw, and Doug Aldrich and it's a guitar fest of note.  From there we heard from Guns ‘n' Roses with a live version of ‘Pretty Tied Up' followed by a band called Paradox and a track of their excellent album Pangea called 'Cheat and Pretend'.   We mixed in the legends with the newer artists by taking a track off Ozzy Osbourne's new album Patient Number 9 and following Oz with Dead City Ruins and a track called “Drifter'.  We heard a track off Herman Franks' 2021 release Two For a Lie.  Texas Hippie Coalition went down well as did another track off the Phil X and the Drills EP called Stupid Good Looking, Vol 1.  There was a lot from Germany on the show, totally unplanned but along with Paradox we had Scorpions, Iron Allies, Herman Frank, on his own and in Iron Allies, and also Rammstein with their strange tune known as B*********.  The SA music came from Jasper Dan, Ross Harding, and L.A. Cobra and then we took in the new Skid Row and a track off Feel It Live which is a live album recorded by The Stranglers in 2013 when they were on Tour promoting the Giants album, the first with Hugh Cornwells replacement Baz Warne in the band.  The end was nice and heavy with Eluveitie, Soilwork, and Lamb of God.  From Lamb of God we went to Neil Young in that typical extreme contrasting style that TSORR is known and loved for.  Thanks for listening, please share the podcast with anyone who may be interested and you can contact TSORR on the website or Facebook page.     Artists featured:  Butchering the Beatles, Guns ‘n' Roses, Paradox, Ozzy Osbourne, Dead City Ruins, Texas Hippie Coalition, Phil X and the Drills, Scorpions, The Pretty Reckless, Herman Frank, Alter Bridge, The Gaslight Anthem,   Billy Idol, The Rolling Stones, Joe Lynn Turner, Iron Allies, Iron Maiden, Rammstein, Metallica, Queensrÿche, Raven, Cold Chisel, Overdrivers, Joe Bonamassa, Jasper Dan, Ross Harding, L.A. "Lovebirds" (Penguin) is the latest release from Sydney-based novelist, Amanda Hampson. A heart-warming story about the power of love and family that sensitively deals with a number of heavy themes. It was the first of Amanda's novels that I've had the good fortune to read. Now I'm itching to go through her backlist. Titles that include "The Olive Sisters", "Two For the Road", 'The French Perfumer", "The Yellow Villa" and "Sixty Summers."Back in May, I had the pleasure of chatting with Amanda about the warm, witty, uplifting story.

Welcome to episode 82 of Activist #MMT. Today I talk with 10th-year MMT activist, Richard Tye (Twitter/@widespreadhaze). Richard is the co-author of – and historian for – the 2020 paper called An Accounting Model of the U.K. Exchequer, which is published by The Gower Initiative for Modern Money Studies (or GIMMS). This is the first of a seven-part series on the paper and its three authors. It starts with an individual and personal interview with each of the authors and ends with a two-part episode with all three jointly, where we discuss the paper in depth. Here are links to all other episodes in this larger series, in order: Part 2: Andy Berkeley, part one: Palestine and piano [NOT MMT] Part 3: Andy Berkeley, __PART_TWO__: Confirming the theory applies to the real world. Part 4: How Neil Wilson discovered MMT (and Reddit) Part 5: Neil Wilson: Real-world economics requires understanding dynamics. Parts 6 and 7: An Accounting Model of the U.K. Exchequer [parts __ONE__ and __TWO__] For the past 20 years, Richard has flown a helicopter for Search and Rescue, under perilous conditions on both land and sea, serving millions of U.K. citizens. For the U.K. Exchequer paper, he became a historian, placing today's economic and political systems into proper historical context. Using only the internet, he and his co-authors discovered original government documents from all the way back to the 11th century. Because of the COVID health crisis, writing the paper would have been an impossible task without the internet. Richard describes several historical concepts and events related to the U.K. economy, including the use of wood tally sticks as a primitive form of money, and the so-called "stop of the exchequer". We also discuss how history moves at a pace that's impossible to directly observe in a human lifetime. We consider this final concept especially in the context of the MMT project. (Before attempting to read the paper, I strongly recommend first listening to their @MMTpodcast interview, and watching co-author Andy Berkeley's forty-minute presentation [as organized by my previous guest, Asker Voldsgaard].) Before we begin, I have several observations to make about history. First, in part one of my previous episode with Andrew Chirgwin, and as inspired by Steven Hail, we discussed how neoclassical economists don't "stay in their lane". Those in power and the economists who advise them, have declared that "finding the money" (and preventing the boogeyman of inflation) is the primary prerequisite for doing anything and everything. If one can't find the money in a way that satisfies these economists, then they get to veto the entire project – sight unseen, and very likely, without understanding its intricacies or consequences at even a basic level. In other words, those in power and their economists have made themselves gatekeepers over every aspect of our lives, pretending that without money – their money – it's impossible to accomplish anything. (Note that this also implies that everything in life must have a precise financial cost applied to it.) In reality, the only reason it's impossible to accomplish anything without money is because we choose for it to be impossible. Knowing this, the resistance to the idea of making education and healthcare free at point-of-service (and therefore free of debt!), now becomes clear: without a price tag, it takes away the ability of those in power to gate-keep and veto. (Not to mention the cherry on top, of profit baby!) Providing education and healthcare for all is not just about making people smarter and healthier, it's about power. (Another related example is the reserve currency or "petrodollar". Nations must transact for oil in the US dollar, simply because the US has muscled its way into the OPEC cartel in order to make that the case. Without the reserve currency, the United States would lose a valuable barometer with which to monitor the behavior of most other nations. It would not change all that much in a financial sense.) Along with many other fields, such as science, sociology, and politics, history also illuminates connections that would otherwise remain hidden. As Richard says in today's episode, knowing something new and unknown happened to occur at around the era of another important event, provides valuable context and reveals a new avenue to pursue. History also provides a convenient method of organization, allowing one to confidently place a puzzle piece down in the correct spot and orientation, despite not yet knowing the location of any surrounding piece. In other words, it provides an anchor of sorts, making it clear in some contexts if we are being led astray. The fact that Modern Money Theory or MMT, and Post Keynesianism in general, are explicitly interdisciplinary, is a reflection of their attempts to ensure their theories apply to the real world. By imposing its money onto all other disciplines, neoclassical economics resists the idea of interdisciplinarity, which is yet a reflection of their decision to grasp onto assumptions that benefit an ideology, at the expense of empirical truth and caring for others. It is little more than further entrenching their power at all costs. Finally, being interdisciplinary is essentially a decision to have balance and to be aware of the world around you. It's not possible to care about the world if you refuse to recognize its existence. What this means to me personally, as out there as it may seem, is how our emotions and thoughts are considered separate from our physical existence. It's not unlike how "the economy" is considered separate from people. We're essentially told we can't help people if the economy is unstable. The news tells us that because the stock market is at an all-time high, "the economy is doing great!" And yet at the same time, millions of actual human beings are suffering in the real world, homeless and hungry, not to mention we're on the brink of global societal collapse. The truth is that the economy is us. It's all of us. We are the economy. So if the economy's doing well while millions are suffering, it can only be true by taking those who suffer, and defining them out of the economy. It's just as true that our mental and emotional existence cannot be separated from our physical existence. Our emotions and thoughts are greatly influenced by our physical condition and vice versa. If we are in physical pain, it can be minimized as much as is possible by managing our emotions. If we are an anguish, it can be minimized by taking care of our body, such as through nutrition, activity, and exercise (and by being lucky enough to have a home whose water supply isn't poisoned!). We're also not alone. We can't separate ourselves from our family, community, and society. By caring for ourselves, we help others. By caring for others, we help ourselves. It's up to us to find the proper balance between all these things, and to resist those who try and stop us. And yet, we as MMTers know more than most, that we exist in a world in which many believe wholeheartedly in these false dichotomies and ideas. We must rage against the system and be kind to individuals. My next interview is with co-author Andrew Berkeley and then after that, Neil Wilson, and then the joint interview. Now, onto my conversation with Richard Tye. Resources Naked Capitalism financial blog. General news through an MMT lens. Twice daily list of links.

The gals are fired up for Season 25 of The Bachelor and Matt James is the tall glass of water they needed! Joining the gals for the very first recap of Matt’s season is TOTs fan favorite Myles Weber and his wife, Heather, who just received an honorary PhD in Bachelor Nation History from Arizona State University. Be sure to give Myles a follow @mylesweberjoker. The season premier does not disappoint! Matt gets a pep talk from Pop-Pop Chris Harrison before the ladies make their grand entrances. Some are weird, a few funny, and A LOT are cringeworthy. This season is filled with a lot of FIRSTS - the first African American Bachelor and the first deaf cast member, Abigail, who just so happened to get the first kiss! Lots of hilarious banter about the production side of the show, the ladies outfits, and of course the official villain: Victoria….uhh and the “battery-operated friend” that Katie brought to Nemoncola. BTW some of these girls are YOUNG...do they all have their permission slips signed??? Listen to hear who the TOT Gals and the Webers think will be around for Hometowns and get the insight on Bachelor history throughout the episode. Bachelorette Recap for Episode 13 is off the chain and re-joining the TOT Gals for all the drama is Comedian, Myles Weber! Myles is back to dish on all the craziness and be sure to give him a follow @mylesweberjoker - ‘Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house, not a creature was stirring, not even Ed trying to find Tayshia’s room. The season finale features the Fantasy Suites and the final dude meeting Tayshia’s family. The drama is mostly fueled by the producers, but one dude finally SHOWS UP for Tayshia by getting down on one knee. But before the proposal...a Ghost of Christmas Past appears, another dude bows out (gracefully, we think) and a TOT favorite gets the boot. Watch and comment along with the gals and Myles as they dish on who smashed, who left the best impression on Tayshia’s family, and where the two turtle doves are now. Kerri hosts the episode and teared up during the proposal, Mary wasn’t feeling the sparks during the cold plunge date, Hillary spills the tea on Ben’s return (from a producers stand point), and Myles brings the heat with Bachelor History Lessons and his take on the remaining dudes. On NBC’s “Outlaw,” Carly Pope plays Lucinda Pearl, a wildly unorthodox private investigator who uses her sex appeal and wit to gather information for Cyrus Garza (Jimmy Smits). Pope has recurred on critically acclaimed television shows such as “24,” “Dirt” and “Californication.” On the feature-film side, Pope recently wrapped the sequel to “SWAT” opposite Gabriel Macht. She can also be seen in “Textuality” as the lead opposite Eric McCormack. Prior to that, she starred in the controversial Toronto International Film Festival favorite, “Young People F****.” Many also remember Pope opposite Al Pacino and Matthew McConaughey in “Two For the Money” and alongside Colin Hanks and Jack Black in “Orange County.” Pope got an early start in her hometown of Vancouver, B.C. with various television and film work before landing the plum role of Sam on the series “Popular,” which aired for two years, launching her career. After “Popular” was cancelled, Pope returned to Vancouver where she continued to win new fans and impress industry insiders and the media with her insightful and sensitive portrayals. Pope is a Leo Award winner for her work on the series “The Collector.” Starring Emmy Award winner Jimmy Smits ("NYPD Blue," "The West Wing"), "Outlaw" is a new drama from creator and executive producer John Eisendrath ("Alias," "Felicity"). Few jobs are guaranteed for a lifetime, and a Supreme Court appointment is a position that no one ever quits -- unless he is Cyrus Garza (Smits). A playboy and a gambler, Justice Garza always adhered to a strict interpretation of the law until he realized the system he believed in was flawed. Now, he's quit the bench and returned to private practice. Using his inside knowledge of the justice system, Garza and his team will travel across the country taking on today's biggest and most controversial legal cases.
