Title: No Such Thing As Good or Bad Kids: Dr. Shefali on Conscious Parenting Description: Today, we're taking a trip into the archives to revisit a 2023 episode with renowned clinical psychologist and listener favorite, Dr. Shefali Tsabary, where we dove into the deeply-layered topic of conscious parenting. Those of us in the middle of life, still parenting kids at home, adjusting to parenting adult children who just launched out into the world. or in any season of the parenting journey, really, will find much to learn as we look back (and forward) at our parenting patterns. Highlights from this convo include: Defining conscious parenting and the three stages of the parenting map Debunking the notion that as parents we are supposed to create happy, perfect superhumans by following traditional parenting rules Dismissing the notion that there are good kids and bad kids—and how to avoid using these labels Revealing the five ego patterns that parents might not even realize inform their quest to raise amazing children The three reasons why children act out or misbehave and how you can learn not to shame them for it The results of over-parenting and how it shows up in your adult children How it's never too late to become a mindful parent Segments: Bless and Release: Avoiding difficult conversations Thought-provoking Quotes: The evolution of the planet depends on the evolution of the parent. – Dr. Shefali Everyone wants a new tomorrow. But what we don't realize is that a new future comes with an absolute willingness to disrupt the past. – Dr. Shefali There is no such thing as a good kid or a bad kid. So, what kind of kids are there? Just kids – just humans who are terribly flawed like we are, and terribly, but amazingly blissful like we are. They're just this unique combo and they defy labels. – Dr. Shefali Punishment, shaming, blaming is never sustainable. I cannot tell you how many times a day I tell parents, ‘Listen, you appear to get control in the moment, but long term, it's going to be unforgiving.' – Dr. Shefali How do we constantly show our presence [to our adult children]? Unequivocal cheerleading. ‘I'm thinking of you. I miss you. I'm remembering you. I adore you.' Let them know they are on your mind but not involved in their day-to-day. – Dr. Shefali When the ego crumbles, proportionately the heart expands, and you then are just this heart-centered being able to connect to the other people in a very attuned, compassionate, genuine way. And your children will feel it. – Dr. Shefali Resources Mentioned in This Episode: The Conscious Parent by Dr. Shefali Tsabary - https://amzn.to/4aNAPd8 The Parenting Map by Dr. Shefali Tsabary - https://amzn.to/3EER148 Dr. Shefali's previous interview on For the Love:Releasing The Fantasy of “The Good Girl” with Dr. Shefali Tsabary - https://jenhatmaker.com/podcasts/series-35/releasing-the-fantasy-of-the-good-girl-with-dr-shefali-tsabary/ Guest's Links: Dr. Shefali's website - https://www.drshefali.com/ Dr. Shefali's Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/doctorshefali Dr. Shefali's Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/doctorshefali Dr. Shefali's YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/c/DrShefali Dr. Shefali's TikTok - https://www.tiktok.com/@doctorshefali Dr. Shefali's Podcast - https://www.drshefali.com/podcast/ Connect with Jen! Darrell Castle talks about the report of journalist Seymour Hersh released the 8th day of this month in which he reported that under direct orders from President Joe Biden, the U.S. Navy blew up the Nord Stream pipelines. Transcript: AN UNEQUIVOCAL ACT OF WAR Hello, this is Darrell Castle with today's Castle Report. This is Friday the 17th day of February in the year of our Lord 2023. I will be talking about the report of journalist Seymour Hersh released the 8th day of this month, in which Mr. Hersh revealed that the United States Navy, at the direction of President Joe Biden, was responsible for the September 26, 2022 attacks on the Nord Stream pipelines carrying natural gas between Russia and Germany. This story should be world wide news because it is not everyday that the United States commits an act of war against a nuclear armed nation and against one of its closest allies. Blowing up Nord Stream was an act of war not only against Russia but against Germany as well and one could argue against all of Europe which benefited from the Russian gas. Germany got its energy from Russia and that Russian gas fueled the German economy and Germany is a U.S. ally and a member of NATO. The report, however, indicates that the German Chancellor was somehow in on the deal because during the planning stages he was reported to be “firmly in the Americans camp”. Maybe then he is a traitor to his own people, but this report is not about Mr. Scholz, instead it is about President Joe Biden. Who is Seymour Hersh and why is he reporting such terrible things about United States President Joe Biden. Controversy seems to follow Mr. Hersh  since he won a Pulitzer Prize for revealing the Mai Lai massacre in Vietnam many years ago. He also reported the torture and extreme conditions of the prisoners held at Abu Ghraib. In both cases the federal government said no it wasn't us and, in both cases, it turned out to be true. I find Mr. Hersh's report on the attack on Nord Stream to be believable and I do accept it as true. I'm sure that as in his other exposes additional information will be found and brought out into the light. What will happen now since an illegal and unconstitutional act of war against two nations which had not harmed the United States in any way should be an impeachment offense? It probably won't go anywhere since the mainstream press including the New York Times and the Washington Post have been largely silent. Total silence then, in the U.S. press despite the fact or because of, depending on the perspective that Mr. Hersh has blown apart the entire narrative of the U.S. involvement in Ukraine as a response to unprovoked Russian Aggression. In Mr. Hersh's Report he quoted the denials of the White House and the CIA, but he is an old-school journalist and a rare one in today's world of captive media. He does not submit his work to the CIA for approval beforehand so quoting from the article, “Asked for comment, Adrienne Watson, a White House spokesperson, said in an email, “This is false and complete fiction.” Tammy Thorp, a spokesperson for the Central Intelligence Agency, similarly wrote: “This claim is completely and utterly false.” According to Mr. Hersh and his whistleblower sources within the government, Biden's decision to sabotage the pipeline came after more than nine months of highly secret back and forth debate inside Washington's national security community about how to best achieve that goal. For much of that time, the issue was not whether to do the mission, but how to get it done with no overt clue as to who was responsible. Word gets around though and people talk and once more than one person knows about something it is not so secret anymore especially when it is an unconstitutional and impeachable war crime. Throughout “all this scheming,” Mr. Hersh's source told him, some working guys in the CIA and State Department were saying, “Don't do this. It's stupid and will be a political nightmare if it comes out.

This is the final message in this series "Love Never Lies". Pastor Todd tells us, "In our society today truth is getting lost in a sea of confusion, feelings and enablement. Increasingly, people no longer care about truth. They care about their feelings and their truth. They care about not being offended or making sure that we don't offend them than they care about the truth. Christians, we will be forced to either tell the truth or agree with lies. We will be told to say that is a man when it is a woman. We will be told to say that an unborn baby is not human. We will be told that God is ok with same sex marriage. We will be told that churches should not be involved in government. We will be told that it's ok for our children to be entertained by drag queens." We are being pressured by our society to lie. But LOVE NEVER LIES. Jesus told the truth no matter what others said or believed. The truth is the truth. It is not subjective or fluid. When Jesus said, "Truly I say to you…" He was speaking in truth. He wanted people to understand that this is not a matter of opinion. It is truth. Absolute. Unequivocal. Truth. He is the creator. He is the Lord of all whom all people will bow to willingly or not. Pastor Todd leads us through the 30 statements that Jesus made in the book of Matthew that are absolute, foundational truth that we can base our lives on. Further, he exposes the lies of the world. We must declare and live our lives on this foundation. "Jesus said, 'I am the Way, the Truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Him." This is not a matter of opinion. This is a matter of undebatable truth. Jesus is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. All authority has been given to Him. We can know the truth and the truth will set us free. Lies will not. Truth matters. Let's listen in as Pastor Todd reveals the truth about the character of Jesus, our obedience, and about speaking the truth in love. http://www.reviveusnow.com Check out Pastor Todd's latest book, "Get It Together", God's Design for Marriage. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BBJLPVZ3/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_HESPWY394NKZQGM1MWZS

With apologies for the holiday delay, this week we're back with some thoughts about the state of adjunct labor (shout out to the UC lecturers!) and the future of this thing called higher education. We celebrate some hard fought victories for unionized labor (we should all be unionized!) while remaining a bit skeptical about the future of adjunct teaching per se. We have some words for Joe Biden, who apparently wants to continue being President despite some pretty aggressively mounting evidence to the contrary. But that's all prelude to the main event. Did y'all here about this lame-ass scam-ass white grievance-ass website calling itself a college? The fact that it exists alone is shocking, but then you see who put their names on this and...oh girl. It's equal parts embarrassing and terrifying. Worry not, we cleanse the pallet with some great books and some promising thoughts about the season of sweater weather. Stay warm out there! For this show, Leonard is joined in the studio by a bona fide rock icon, lead guitarist and founding member of the MC5, Wayne Kramer. From his genre-defining wall of feedback on the band’s seminal work “Kick Out The Jams” to their infamous performance at the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago that landed them both in jail and on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine before they even had a record deal, few groups had as wild or influential a time in the spotlight. The “big brother” band of The Stooges in their earliest days, the pioneers, purveyors and arguably creators of punk and heavy metal music, the MC5 created a sound far ahead of its time. And at the heart of that sound was Wayne Kramer’s guitar. “The MC5’s story is important because it’s five guys from Detroit who, against all prevailing wisdom, at a time when the music business really didn’t want to know, tried to make something happen,” Wayne said in a 2011 lecture at Loyola University. “I think there’s something to be said for that. Unequivocal commitment to trying to achieve—the sense of possibility.”

And…we’re…back! Thank you for your patience. Now, grab whatever libation strikes your fancy, throw on your most comfortable headphones, and strap in for part 2 of our Mark pentalogy.  Today we begin with my response to, “What drove you to drink today?” The answer? Friendships, Facebook, and confrontation.  See, some friendships improve and deepen with age, much like the very spirits, wines, and beers which drive this endeavor.  Other friendships stall and shift in the direction of acquaintance, both parties perfectly content with the development.  Certain friendships fade away slowly, much like the resonance of a prayer bell, eventually becoming a vague, positive memory.  And occasionally things really change abruptly and for the worse.  When the latter happens, as it did for me, a decision must be made…to confront or not to confront?  Then, if one confronts, is the confrontation in the spirit of breaking up or reconciling?  But, I really don’t want to deal with any of this shit right now.  So…not to confront.  (But I know I should.)  And, do I want to reconcile or break-up?  (The very question points me in the direction of the answer…and again, I don’t want to deal with that.)  So, a quick Manhattan followed by a double Old-Fashioned it is! In this episode, Mark and I discuss levels of friendship, and it seems like they shake-out as follows: 1. Kidney-giving level Unequivocal kidney giving Kidney giving with hesitation Kidney giving as a last resort (i.e. “If no one else will, I suppose…”) Begrudging kidney giving with the option of holding it over the receiver’s head (i.e. “Can you lend me $100?”  “Sorry, I don’t have it right now.”  “Oh, okay.  How’s my kidney treating you?”) 2. Premium level Frequent hang-out, in home Frequent hang-out, not in home, one check Frequent hang-out, not in home, separate checks Occasional hang-out, and all is well in the world 3. Acquaintence level Infrequent hang-out, no time limit Infrequent hang-out, time limit Rare hang-out 4. Facebook level Frequent interaction Infrequent interaction Unfollowed Unfriended The drink?  Wigle Four malt whiskey old fashioned The music?  “I’ll be there for you,” by The Rembrandts and “Just a Friend,” by Biz Markie We present to you, “You Say He Just a Friend. (Mark, pt 2)”   No kidney for you. And separate checks! Good day. I…said…good…day!

“A lively hope” - the unequivocal moral teaching of the Apostle Peter

On the Feast of the Apostles Peter and Paul. This a partial exegesis of the three selections read at Vespers from the First Epistle of Peter (1 Peter 1:3-9, 1 Peter 1:13-19, and 1 Peter 2:11-24). This is unequivocal moral teaching based on Jesus Christ, which is much needed and neglected in our age, even in churches that call themselves Christian. Let us check our faith and see if it is a "lively hope," and if this description of a Christian applies to us: "being dead to sins, (we) should live unto righteousness." In between these two bookends to the three selections, Peter prepares his people for persecution and "heaviness of temptations." Nowadays, a priest must also be a prophet as were the Apostles, and encourage his people to pursue purity in their lives and to expect and be prepared for "heaviness through manifold temptations."

Psalm 33 definitively outlines actual worship. The context and descriptions are devoid of modern compartmentalizing notions of religion. Worship in truth circumscribes all of our experience and consciousness. By this measure discernment can be applied. Does the spirit of the age betray a convenient redefinition of terms so as to co-opt the unsuspecting impressionable consumer? By this standard in the immutable scripture, let us examine ourselves.
