Azita Ghanizada is currently making her Broadway debut in "The Kite Runner" as Soraya, and is now the first woman of Afghan descent to originate a role on Broadway. As we learn, Azita's childhood life was far from ordinary and easy. Her family fled Afghanistan and ended up in the US as political asylum seekers. Similarly to what happens in “The Kite Runner”, she had trouble getting citizenship because she didn't have proper paperwork, including her birth certificate. She talks about growing up and learning how to speak English through watching tv shows and movies, which has also sparked her interest in acting. She shares how she pursued acting by buying a one-way ticket to Hollywood and ended up working at E! for a couple of years where she learned everything about show business. From finding a loophole in not getting jobs she used to get to being told she was white, Azita, together with other actors who joined her cause, successfully drafted a new SAG-AFTRA – AMPTP TV/Theatrical hiring contract for the first time in 37 years. She also talked about MENA Arts Advocacy Coalition, an organization she founded to support and educate. Azita reflects on the issues we still need to fight for such as inclusion, and why we have to create from our heart and operate from a place of truth and integrity. Azita Ghanizada is an Afghan American actress who began her on-air camera career as a commercial model. Her family fled Afghanistan to the US and were granted asylum to remain. She has appeared in numerous television series, including “How I Met Your Mother”, “Entourage”, “Veronica Mars”, “The Wedding Bells”, “NUMB3RS”, “Bones”, “Psych” and “Castle”. Her film credits include "Killroy Was Here", “Our Friend”, “We Broke Up”, “Draupadi Unleashed”, “Complete Unknown”, “X's & O's”, and “A Kiss on the Nose” where she received a film festival best actress nomination for her performance. She's the Founder and President of MENA Arts Advocacy Coalition, an organization she launched after helping build the MENA category into the SAG-AFTRA theatrical contracts. In 2020, she gave her first TEDx talk on the path to visibility in Hollywood. In addition to "Ballers," and Freeform's "Good Trouble," she's also got a recurring role on the CBS show, “United States of Al” and is currently performing in Broadway's "The Kite Runner" as Soraya. This week we get into two very different watches. We start off with We Broke Up (5:08) a dramedy starring Aya Cash and William Jackson Harper. Longtime couple Lori and Doug break up days before Lori's little sister Bea's wedding to Jayson. In order to not disrupt the wedding, Lori and Doug decide to pretend they're still together until the weekend is over. A movie we wanted to love but finished feeling pretty indifferent on. Then we get into our newest obsession Only Murders In The Building, starring Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez (15:10). Hulu's newest hit, where three strangers who share an obsession with true crime suddenly find themselves caught up in one. You can follow us on Twitter and Instagram @girldidyouwatch and don't forget to tell your friends, to tell their friends, about Girl, Did You Watch?

There are a couple of great battles in the films reviewed on this episode, but Erik Childress and Steve Prokopy leave no film behind this week before debating their merits. Ten films on the docket including films about pigs with no dialogue (Gunda), werewolves with some songwriting (Bloodthirsty) and Lovecraftian fish people who want to spawn with a couple (The Deep Ones). Ed Helms wants Patti Harrison to carry his baby (Together Together) and William Jackson Harper wants to know why Aya Cash won’t marry him (We Broke Up). First things first. Everyone go wish Nick a happy birthday on Twitter. We kick off the episode with Nick's victory parade for Notre Dame and continue into an unapologetic ACC hype train. We then talk B1G and actually give Maryland some proper respect. We wrap up with Inside Lacrosse Mid-season All-American reactions and a quick Clout Police. (33:34) We welcome Tony Cavalero to the show - super famous Hollywood actor (he's our friend now, not yours) and former VMI lacrosse legend. Tony is an incredibly good guy who has a true passion for the game of lacrosse. We talk high school sports, a lot about VMI and playing lacrosse there, his MLL try out and his thriving Men's League career. In between shower cartwheels and ham sandwiches, Tony had a great career at VMI and we had a ton of fun talking lacrosse with him. He still watches as much lacrosse as he can and is actually very open to a PLL try out…just saying! Follow Tony on Instagram @tonycavalero and be on the look out for season 2 of the Righteous Gemstones - a hilarious and very good show on HBO. He also has a major role in the upcoming film We Broke Up - coming to video on demand on 4/23. Visit sidelineswap.com/postgame and be on the lookout for some new Redwoods LC gear in our locker soon.

On this episode I speak with Director, Producer, Writer, AD Jeff Rosenberg. I've worked with Jeff for a couple of years on different shows as our first AD and second AD and he's great in both positions. In this past year Jeff finished the film “We Broke Up” which he wrote, produced and directed. I wanted to have him on the podcast because it's so interesting to me to hear how someone can wear all the hats and have the passion to get a project completed. It took him years to get this together and while working long hours on productions like “The League” “VEEP”, “The Good Place” and films like “Wine Country”. He has an ADG award for “VEEP”, and wins and nominations for writing, production and directing his film Orenthal:The Musical which is now showing on Amazon Prime. And he won the Audience Award at the Friars Club Comedy Film Festival for it. We talk about how we both started in Hallmark movies… he excelled a lot quicker then I did, his story of getting into this business is unbelievable.
