I always LOVE having other Vegas fanatics on the podcast to chat about the latest happenings in "Sin City". Back in Spring of 2021, I was joined on the show by Adam Bauer aka "Travel Fanboy" to talk about some of the big changes coming to Las Vegas. We discussed the sale of the Cosmopolitan to MGM, the sale of the Mirage to Hard Rock, and the impending re-branding of Bally's to Horseshoe. A year has passed and all of those changes are either complete or well underway, so I decided to reconnect with Adam so we could share our thoughts on those projects as well as some of the upcoming openings and big events coming to the Vegas Strip. Check out the official Travel Fanboy website for lots of great travel tips & tricks, as well as Adam's latest venture, Cheapskate Vegas, where you can learn to live like a high-roller on a low-roller budget. __________________________________________________________________________ Become a Jeff Does Vegas Insider today for only $5 USD/month & enjoy all kinds of cool perks like early access to new episodes, commercial-free versions of EVERY episode, invites to exclusive live streams & videos, insider-only virtual hangouts and even real-life in-person hangouts IN Las Vegas! Mantra music, or kirtan is a growing phenomenon in the west. Over the past decade, as yoga has become more popular, so too has kirtan. What most people who go to a kirtan gathering or concert will say is that it enlivens you, lifts you up– and then takes you on a journey inward. My guest for this podcast is Aleah Gandharvika, a kirtan singer who has traveled the world for over a decade with her partner in the kirtan duo the Love Keys. She's performed at thousands of events and festivals in over 15 countries – and has toured with other kirtan artists including Shantala, Adam Bauer, and Tina Malia. Aleah is also a vocal coach and facilities Bhakti Yoga immersions. In today's episode, we're going to take a deep dive into the mystical world of mantra… Our program begins with a short two-minute performance by Aleah, which, unfortunately, doesn't have the best sound due to zoom, but I decided to keep it in the podcast because you can still feel the deep beauty of her voice and transmission. Enjoy!
In this eye-opening conversation with Walter Meyenberg, founder of Hanky Panky, some of the topics we discuss include: Why this bar, which is so famous for being a modern “speakeasy,” wasn't originally planned that way, and how they evolved from not even charging for drinks to winning international awards for hospitality. What it's like to locate, enter, and drink at Hanky Panky, according to our mixological travel correspondent, Adam Bauer. How Walter thinks about developing individual members of his bar team and building a community of international “friends of Hanky Panky,” and why this people-first mentality allowed the program to thrive, even during the pandemic. We also explore some of Walter's other projects, like his bar Casa de las Brujas, which places an all-female bar team in the spotlight, and Liquid Show, an educational initiative launched in partnership with other leading bar figures in Mexico City. Along the way, we cover the books that inspired Walter's approach to hospitality, the design aesthetic behind throne-like bar stools and mirrored tables, foundational memories of being fed and pampered by his Lebanese mother, and much, much more. Anyone who's a frequent visitor to Las Vegas knows it's a city in a constant state of flux and, thanks to some changes in resort ownership along with a few re-brands & major overhauls, the Vegas strip is likely going to look very different in the coming years. Joining me for this episode to discuss some of these upcoming changes is fellow creator and travel blogger, Adam Bauer - aka "Travel Fanboy". Adam got his start blogging about Las Vegas and has since expanded his horizons to include travel in general. Adam & I shared our opinions on what we think the effects of these changes will be, what a volcano-less strip would look like, and we even dove into unfamiliar territory - rumours and speculation - regarding potential changes at the Tropicana. Make sure you go ahead and follow Adam on Twitter & Facebook and be sure to check out the official Travel Fanboy website. __________________________________________________________________________ Jeff Does Vegas is an official Vegas.com affiliate! Thank-full can be a state of being, and gratitude a way of walking in the world. Our minds become habituated to our surroundings and often forget to pay attention- as a result a plethora of ambient blessings fade into the background. Living as Thanksgiving does wonders for your spirit and bodymind: studies show that a gratitude practice can get people off of antidepressants, accelerate healing after surgery, and draw people closer together. Plus it just opens the door to living with more wonder and awe and reverence. We've done a special episode of the pod today, one I hope you will listen to lying down, with a pen and paper nearby. The episode features an original backing track from Mornsong, a dozen short contributions from friends articulating what they are grateful for, and a guided reflection for you to follow along with. Drop down into the Gratitude Zone, the G-Zone, maybe before you get into the F-zone. Um, that's the Family Zone. With all love, we are grateful for you,Christine and TeamWith special thanks to Nico (Mornsong), Adam Bauer, John Shiva Gray. Cory Lytle, Adam Bauer, and Mike Anthony are at the helm this week. Our first documentary (if we ever get our shit together) will be about The Monkey King. This is the first time we had only weed and no booze. Feels like we had a lot more energy. Mike's got a bigfoot sighting he's been holding out on.... Turns out Adam is our in-house expert on Autoerotic asphyxiation. Who knew?? For the life of him, Cory can't stop talking about how dragons used to be real. We had a good 20-minute dialog about totalitarian monkey overlords. That's always a fun topic. All in all one of the best episodes to date. Higher education is an expensive business. Tuition fees, the cost of accommodation and lost earnings potential all take their toll, often resulting in a lifetime of student debt. In the United States, the cost of college is even higher than it is in the UK, as my guest on this episode of the podcast will explain. In this episode of Informed Choice Radio, I speak to Adam Bauer. Adam is Financial Literacy Program Director at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. Adam describes his role as developing WSU’s financial literacy program. He says: Sometimes I teach. Sometimes I coach. Rarely, I sleep. A former English teacher, Adam is passionate about using his MBA in finances to improve financial literacy for college age students. In this episode, we talk about how college in the US differs from the UK. I ask Adam about the financial fundamentals students typically lack and whether higher education is still worth its high cost. Welcome to Cost of College with Adam Bauer, in episode 103 of Informed Choice Radio. Some questions I ask -How did you get involved in financial literacy? -What are the different types of colleges in the US and how do their fee structures differ? -Do many students drop out of college because they struggle with financial literacy issues? -What financial fundamentals do students typically lack? -With such high tuition costs, is going to University still worth the money?
