Are you ready to ditch the yoga pants every day? I know it's a hard thing to do, especially if you are a stay at home mom, but this interview with the fabulous Alison Lumbatis of Get Your Pretty On is all about that. It's so important to take the time to spend a little time feeling better every day, and what better way than to get dressed. She has an amazing online community devoted to this alone, and she has also written a fabulous book that details the step by step process and makes it so easy. Alison joins us today to encourage all of you pretty ladies to get out of your yoga pants and get your pretty on! As mothers, we can embrace whatever stage of life we are in and still look hot. Alison shares some tips to help you get started on the journey to get your pretty on. She even talks about fall trends, what to spend money on and what to save on, and why it's so important to get dressed every day. I think you're really going to enjoy this one! Conversation Highlights: {06:20} Alison's favorite thing {10:00} Embrace the Empty Nest {15:20} Alison's Journey to find her pretty {20:00} Outfit formulas {31:00} Alison's Fall events Alison's Bio: I'm Alison, the mom of three and recovering yoga pants addict behind Get Your Pretty On. To be honest, I started GYPO from a place of not taking very good care of myself. Because on some level, I didn't feel like I was worth it. After starting to work from home a few years ago, I lost all accountability for getting dressed. I didn't leave the house some days, so I stopped making the effort because I felt like it just wasn't worth it. My rut deepened and started to affect more than my appearance but also my motivation, mood, happiness, and health. I realized that something had to change, and it was as easy as taking one small step in the right direction. Here's what turned it all around for me: I got up, got dressed, and got ready for the day – and I did it just for me. My motivation came back, and my mood turned around. That one small action created big changes that still have ripple effects to this day, including setting an example for my daughters. Many women come to GYPO feeling the same way – stuck in a rut but not quite sure where to start. Here you'll find easy ways to get dressed every day and feel pretty again. Do you have a closet full of clothes and nothing to wear? Maybe you just don't know how to pair them up. Or maybe the clothes you have no longer work for your lifestyle right now.  In this episode, I'm excited to share this conversation with entrepreneur and author, Alison Lumbatis, who created an entire system called Outfit Formulas. Today, we're going to talk about all things style capsule wardrobe and how to dress every single day, which Alison has made easy for you! Listen in to learn all about style, not only how to dress, but how it can really change your life and show up in the world.  There are different catalysts for the need to rebuild your wardrobe, be that you've gained weight or lost some, or maybe you're entering corporate America for the first time (or leaving corporate America). Whatever your reason is, know that you have to dress the body you have right now, and giving yourself permission to do that is immensely powerful. We always talk about changing inside-out. But our guest today will make you realize that sometimes there are also changes that happen outside-in, so then you show up better, you're more empowered, and you're more motivated to do things. There's a ton of research out there suggesting that the way we dress turns us into different people. We take on the attributes of our clothing, and if we feel good with what we're wearing when we show up in the world, others respond to that as well.  In this episode, you will hear: How she transitioned from engineering to style The impetus behind the blog and the community The concept of a capsule wardrobe and how it works How to narrow down and find the pieces that work The Cash, Stash, and Trash strategy Dressing the body you have right now How to figure out your personal style How Outfit Formulas can you help you Subscribe and Review Have you subscribed to our podcast? There's always a catch. If you are a regular listener of my success and money podcast, you've heard me say this line on repeat. Whether we decide to take action or not….whether we say “yes” or “no,” there is a pay off and a trade off. This is why so many of us get stuck in over-thinking and over-analyzing, because it's scary to make the “wrong” choice, and have to suffer the consequences. When you are starting, growing, and running a business….you have to constantly make tough decisions every week, on top of all the tough decisions you already have to make in your personal life. It's easy to get caught up in magical,  seeing all of these people online (including me) that are living a life of luxury, working with such ease, all while raking in the cash. What 98% of these people don't show or tell you is all the crap days, tough weeks, and painful messy setbacks that happened along the way. Creating and running a successful business is not for the faint of heart. This shiz gets really hard before the money and work flow easily. If you're in that stage where your dreams feel a million miles away, know that every single entrepreneur on the planet has felt the same thing. Try your best not to compare your year 1-3 to someone else that is at year 10. I've been an entrepreneur for 14 years now. ProjectME has been around for a little over 4 years…let me tell you IT DOES GET EASIER, but you have to be willing to navigate the tough times to get there. If you aren't sure what your “thing” is or how to turn your passion into a business, this podcast episode will get you thinking outside of the box. Are you a fashionista? Do you love or hate clothes? I am thrilled to have Alison Lumbatis in the studio with us today to talk about her new book, The Ultimate Book of Outfit Formulas: A Stylish Solution to What Should I Wear?, and realizing how much of an impact she has had on my life. Especially when it comes to clothes. Imagine how your day and mood will be different, just by getting dressed. No matter how you feel in the morning and no matter if you are leaving your home or staying in, getting dressed is a type of selfcare. This one action has the power to change the outcome of how you feel and how you present yourself. Alison gives us the history on how she stopped getting dressed and she noticed her loss of motivation after working from home after six months. In hindsight, she recognized there were signs of depression by being in her yoga pants rut. One day she asked herself, “what is one tangle thing I can do to make myself feel better today?” Alison tells us the answer was easy, the first step was putting on real clothes. This not only made her feel better but it allowed her to also set an example. Alison explains to us that we only wear 20% of the clothes we have in our closets. She states that cleaning out your closet is an emotional process and that we are holding on to articles of the past. In order to effectively clean it out, we need to take everything out and go through each piece individually, in order to know what to put back in your closet. We ask the tough questions: does the thought of changing out of your yoga pants or throwing out your workout clothes sound difficult? Clothes shouldn't take an emotional toll but allow you to be the best version of yourself. Getting dressed can change your emotions and energy levels, making you more motivated. It is as simple as getting dressed everyday. It doesn't matter what time, whether it be 3pm or 5 pm. The mood boost from getting dressed is so simple, yet the outcome is so powerful. In This Episode [00:39] - Welcome Alison Lumbatis to The Crystal Paine Show [02:14] - I had never really worked hard to put together outfits because I had always kind of told myself I am not a fashionista. [03:35] - Sometimes I feel like people might think clothes aren't that big of a deal but it is a big deal and makes a big difference. [04:10] - I have Alison tell us about herself and explain what she does. [04:33] - My goal is really to empower women to be able to shop on their own and to be able to see their closets in a different light. [05:03] - Number one, I didn't have accountability for getting dressed in the morning anymore [06:51] - Blogging is a great creative outlet. [07:22] - I really just asked my readers and followers at that point, “what can I do for you that is going to make your life easier?” [08:09] - I inadvertently created a capsule wardrobe. [08:50] - No matter your style, you can make it work for you. [10:05] - I love how you just kind of gently encourage people to push outside their comfort zones. [10:58] - I read a favorite section from The Ultimate Book of Outfit Formulas: A Stylish Solution to What Should I Wear? [11:28] - “You don't have to feel like doing something, in order to do it.” [11:48] - What could happen if you did put a little effort into it? [12:04] - I like to say, “get dressed with the day you want to have.” [13:58] -  We take the action and the feeling comes after. [15:33] - For the woman who is feeling, “I don't even know where to start. Like I look at my closet and all there is, is yoga pants and sweatshirts and this feels daunting to me”, is there kind of one small step that you would encourage them to take. [17:40] - When you find that outfit formula, that uniform that works for your life.Take a picture of it. [19:56] -  I'd love for you to just kind of walk through, how do you go through your closet, for someone who feels overwhelmed with all the clothes they have, but yet feel like they don't have anything to wear. [22:22] - I developed this acronym swap, “shop with a purpose”. [23:43] - One of the things I love about your book, The Ultimate Book of Outfit Formulas, is how practical it is and visual. [24:40] - I ask Alison to tell us more about her program and how you can get signed up. [27:45] - I love, also just the spirit of what you're doing, and that it's just encouraging women. [29:03] - Give feedback, but deliver it with love.   Links & ResourcesCrystal PaineAlison Lumbatis BooksThe Ultimate Book of Outfit Formulas: A Stylish Solution to What Should I Wear? As founder of Get Your Pretty On, Alison created a community of people that's all about being who you really are and expressing your inner self through what you wear.  I love this approach. I don't consider myself a "fashion person." But I do have a personal style and I love the way Alison talks about the connection between what you wear and who you are.  Alison sees her role as guiding people through the outer expressions of major life transitions--the internal shifts that are expressed through external shifts. We talk about growth and different phases of business ownership. Alison shares was different about side businesses she had before and Get Your Pretty On, the one that took off.  We cover the idea of expressing your own identity instead of wearing something like a uniform for someone else.  We talk about accountability and how getting dressed in the morning--even if you don;t see anyone else all day--is about being accountability to yourself.  With fashion, like your own business, you can try different things, fail fast, do something different every day and just figure out what works for you.  Find Alison and join the Get Your Pretty On community at:   GetYourPrettyOn.com   Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/getyourprettyon  Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/_getyourprettyon/  Freebies: https://getyourprettyon.com/freebies/    This show is sponsored by my company, Concurrent Productions. If you were not in the yoga pants rut in 2020, you probably are now. Our guest today on She Sells Radio felt like that rut was impacting her self-worth and self-confidence and how she showed up. Alison Lumbatis of Get Your Pretty On® is going to talk about how self-worth impacts earning potential, how you can feel worthy regardless of anything else, and how we can uplevel our business and cash flow in a way that feels authentic to who we are as women.    Part of what Alison does is helping women feel pretty, building self-worth, feeling good by taking care of themselves on the inside. One of the things that can limit a woman’s earning potential is her lack of self-worth, which was part of Alison’s story and journey. She had been working from home in corporate America for six months, but she noticed that over the course of that time things started to come apart. She realized that it was tied to not having the accountability of needing to wake up, get ready for the day, and taking it on. She ended up not spending any time at all on herself and diving into work. She wasn’t feeling in love with her job or her external self--but the journey out of that mindset started internally. That meant waking up an hour before anyone else in the house and carving out time for getting ready. Instantly, the motivation came back. Now, she’s sharing that with women across the country. When you take that action, the feeling follows.   Alison’s relationship with sales has been a story of growth. At first, Alison blogged for no money at all. Then, when she left her job in corporate America, she poured all she had into it, but felt like she couldn’t sell to her audience--she didn't feel right doing so. That was until a coach let her know that her audience WANTED to be sold to--they were looking for something Alison could provide. At first, she felt almost sleazy asking for her readers to pay--she was hopeful for just 50 women to sign up to her first program. When 500 women did, her eyes were opened.    Another hurdle she faced in sales was increasing her prices. However, she was adding value to her program, investing in technology to improve it, and going the extra mile. Alison’s product has always been geared towards women on a budget, but at that point and despite some backlash, she knew it was the right thing to do--new level, new devil. It was a major mindset shift that allowed her income to increase. You can have a high-dollar program while still providing high-dollar value. There’s nothing wrong with that!   Handling backlash was certainly difficult--it is many women's worst nightmare. Haters didn’t agree with the price change. But, Alison combated that with information and comparative costs while demonstrating that the value she was bringing was 10 times that of what she was asking. A big lesson she learned was that she needed a customer support representative to act as a buffer so she wouldn’t take things personally, and she needed to accept the fact that not everyone was her customer. We want to be everyone’s cup of tea, but in reality, we aren’t--and that’s okay.     The mental leap that happens when you make more money can be daunting. Alison went from $600 to $6,000 to six figures in her third year. She put all of it away and let it sit there. Slowly, she started investing her gross in her business to scale. Since then, she’s still experiencing growth even through the pandemic. Every shift and pivot has been beneficial to Alison and served a need to her audience. A money mindset was crucial--incremental upgrades are part of that.    Throughout the years, Alison has been journaling at the start of her day. It’s her way of being her own therapist and going back and forth with herself. This way, she can be self aware and take challenges head one. She also explored having both male and female coaches to help gain perspective on both approaches to money. She noticed that men are not afraid to think bigger, whereas women will set safe, “realistic” goals.    For many women, it’s difficult to trust that instinct that tells us to upgrade and increase incrementality. For Alison, she had a gnawing feeling of discontentment. It wasn’t about being unhappy, it was about moving the needle. If you have a dream house in mind, work towards that. No one has the right to judge what is “enough” for you.    Tune in to hear Alison’s top tips for women looking to break into six figures!   LINKS GetYourPrettyOn.com Closet staples shopping list - GetYourPrettyOn.com/freebies

Do you look in your closet and feel like you have nothing to wear? In today's episode I speak with Get Your Pretty On Founder Alison Lumbatis on how to find your own fashion style in midlife.  What fashion trends are too young or too old for us? What's the best why to shop both in stores and online plus how wearing clothing has a lot more to do with how we feel inside than just what we're wearing on the outside! Show notes:  Alison is a firm believer that it doesn't have to be age appropriate but rather "you" appropriate. When you're thinking about your wardrobe there are three questions you should ask yourself: 1- Does this make me feel more stylish and confident when I put it on? 2- Does this fit or flatter my body? 3- Take a selfie in the mirror.  Tipis on how to find your fashion. We only use 20% of the clothes in our closet so 80% of our clothes we don't wear!  Clean out your closet in order to figure out what pieces of clothing you need to get. Go shopping with a list so you don't buy items that you really don't need.  Alison explains what stores are goo to shop at to get the different pieces for your wardrobe. Fall/Winter staples and a comfy pair of joggers and leggings are included! Box Styling services allow someone else to pick your clothes. They can be really helpful for us midlife women. What to wear on a Zoom job interview. Believes in capsule wardrobes What are good pieces of jewelry and other accessories to have in your wardrobe. Denim trends are basically anything goes...even bell bottoms! Alison also talks about how if she could talk to her younger self she'd let her know that life is a tapestry of her purpose and what she's doing today. She couldn't rush or sidestep or done things differently or she would be different than she is now. In midlife we have the ability to see the value of perspective.  Contact Alison Lumbatis: Getyourprettyon.com Facebook: Getyourprettyon If you enjoyed this episode, please Subscribe, Rate and Review this podcast. For many of us, our entrepreneur journey starts by trading our time for money. We work exclusively by giving our time in exchange for compensation. However, the resulting issue is we either hit the ceiling of running out of time or we eventually max out how much we believe we can charge for our time. When we hit that point we then enter into a new phase of seeking to create additional income streams that do not require we trade hour for dollar. One of those avenues is launching a membership site for recurring and residual income. Our guest today on the Beyond the Image podcast is Alison Lumbatis who went from running a blog she started as a personal project to launching and scaling a membership platform, Get Your Pretty On, that in only a few short years is earning 7 figures. In this episode, host James Patrick and Alison discuss the journey she took to create her personal platform, how she targeted her audience's pain points, the importance of trusting your voice, how she cross marketed, why consistency beats luck, the value of scarcity, the various membership site monetization and sales strategies, how to engage and include members into the process and why you should seek to own all of your assets in the development of your own membership site. This episode is perfect is you are ready to, or even curious about, launch your own membership site and the most effective ways to scale its growth. How self-care can foster self-confidence In this week’s episode, we travel down the road of Alison Lumbatis’ past; how her unhealthy upbringing hindered her personality and growth, causing her to seek something from people they weren’t able to provide—her identity. We uncover the unexpected event that lead to the most terrifying year of her life, and how she transitioned from being an engineer to succumb to her true calling—helping and serving women to be the most confident, successful versions of themselves. Listen to this episode to see how she helps women articulate their sense of style, gain confidence, save money, and ultimately show up for themselves every single day. Listen to this episode now “Others focused, not self-focused” Alison’s childhood was very similar to my own, her father was an alcoholic and family life was unhealthy, unstable, and uncertain. While most kids were growing into themselves, she was growing into whomever everyone wanted her to be. At 15 years old, she remembers having a gut feeling that she was meant to be doing something more, something to help women—but the timing wasn’t right. Finding hope in the mess Alison takes us through the turning point in her life—the deepest pain and catalyst for seeking help to save her marriage and relationships that mattered most. We discuss how therapy and the Enneagram shifted her family life and helped them better understand each other. She talks about how working and blogging from home in her leggings—sans workout and yoga—spiraled her into a dark unmotivated rut, and how deciding to show up for herself by getting dressed every morning changed everything. Her commitment to work on herself opened up doors for opportunity, and she reveals how an unexpected loss led to the birth of multi-million-dollar businesses. Customer-centered and feedback focused Today, Alison is a mom of three, recovering yoga pants-addict, and the creator of the style blog Get Your Pretty On. She leads a passion project that helps orphaned young women in Haiti build successful businesses, providing knowledge and resources to lead sustainable futures. She is also the creator of Style Challenges, a first of its kind online personal styling program that’s like meal planning for your closet. Since its start, she’s helped over 35,000 women build capsule wardrobes and discover confidence through easy style.Your reviews matter If you enjoyed this episode and look forward to new ones each week, please take a minute to share with friends, family, and rate the podcast on Apple Podcasts! If you’ve been following my blog for a long time, you know that for years I said, “I’m not a fashionista!” I felt so inept when it came to putting together cute outfits and I felt like anytime anyone complimented me on my outfit, I needed to apologize for someone or deflect the compliment by saying something like, “Oh this shirt?? I just pulled it out at the last minute and I don’t really like it.” Or, “Thanks, but I don’t really know this dress is my style.” I said these things because I felt so insecure about my ability to put outfits together and I constantly second-guessed myself. When I realized how much I was doing this and how much I wished I could figure out how to put cute outfits together, I finally decided to do something about it. I started paying attention to what I liked. I began noticing outfits that other people wore that I liked and started a mental checklist of what my tastes were. I also poked around on Pinterest and Instagram and paid attention to simple and frugal outfits that other people posted that I liked. I gave myself permission to try new things. I let myself actually buy some new styles and colors — to try out and see what I thought. I learned about what outfit formulas were. I joined a program that taught me about outfit formulas and how to put together outfits — and then it gave you a few weeks of outfit formulas to follow and experiment with. I kept experimenting and paying attention. I surprised myself so much by loving the outfit formula program and being challenged to follow the formulas. I even got brave and posted pictures of my outfits for almost an entire month on social media and learned so much from seeing the photo of myself and hearing feedback from you all. It helped me to define what I like, it helped me to realize a lot of things I was doing wrong, and to figure out what was working and what wasn’t working. Now, over a year since I did that outfit formula program, I dress very differently and I find so much joy in putting together outfits. And I know what works for me and what doesn’t. I never thought this would be possible, but it’s true! And I’m so excited to be bringing on the amazing woman who created this program with the outfit formulas I mentioned that. Alison Lumbatis from Get Your Pretty On is so good at not only putting cute outfits together, but also in helping everyday women like me learn how to dress fashionably — even on a small budget! We’ll chat about how she got motivated to dress well even when she started working from home, why she created her style challenges, how inspirational her Facebook group is, and much more!
