In electric vehicle (EV) batteries, the anode serves as a critical component, acting as a storage vessel for lithium ions that are then released when the battery is being used to power the car. Graphite anodes, the current market dominators, have reached their peak energy density. This limitation is prompting a shift toward Silicon-based anodes, which offer up to 10 times the energy density. Major players like Porsche, Mercedes, and GM are embracing this technology, recognizing its potential to revolutionise EV performance. But while silicon-based anode materials hold great promise for batteries, they are known to suffer from significant degradation during charging and discharging cycles. Solving this problem will open up a market for silicon anode materials that could reach $130B by 2033. ENTER HPQ SILICON INC. (TSX-V: HPQ) (OTCQB: HPQFF) HPQ Silicon is a technology company specialising in green engineering for silicon manufacturing. Positioned strategically to become a key supplier for Silicon materials in battery anodes, HPQ Silicon's efforts align with the US and Canadian governments' initiatives to establish domestic battery manufacturing ecosystems. Novacium, HPQ's France-based affiliate, has acquired patents enhancing anode material performance, particularly in silicon-based Li-ion batteries. With the pressing demand for domestic battery material suppliers, HPQ Silicon's advancements in engineered SiOx materials position it as a crucial player in meeting the evolving needs of the electric vehicle industry while addressing supply chain vulnerabilities. DELIVERING STRONG PERFORMANCE AT 100 CYCLES Dr. Jed Kraiem, Novacium's COO, “We are learning a lot from these results at 100 cycles, results that continue to surpass our initial theoretical expectations of a 10% improvement in battery performance. These results are incredibly encouraging indicators of the material's commercial viability in the battery manufacturing sector and underscore our ability to produce a blend of graphite and advanced engineered silicon anode material that significantly enhances battery performance.” MAINTAINING PERFORMANCE EXCELLENCE Data analysis showcases the remarkable consistency and minimal degradation of Novacium's silicon-based material blend at the 100-cycle mark. Despite Silicon's historical degradation tendencies, Novacium's engineered anode material demonstrates comparable degradation rates to graphite batteries, fueling optimism for future developments. COMPARATIVE PERFORMANCE EVALUATION A side-by-side comparison illustrates the energy density of Novacium's silicon blend among the top-performing 18650 commercial batteries. HPQ and Novacium emphasise the preliminary nature of these tests, hinting at further optimization potential for enhanced battery performance. Bernard Tourillon, President and CEO of HPQ Silicon and Novacium, “I am profoundly encouraged by the results to date. This achievement reflects our ability to deliver a material that can improve the performances of most batteries available in the market. However, I am even more excited about the potential of our next generations of materials.” CEO ADDRESSES STOCK PRICE Bernard Tourillon, President and CEO of HPQ Silicon acknowledges the frustration among shareholders, including themselves, regarding the company's stock price. Tourillon emphasises that despite the selling pressure on HPQ stock, it is not reflective of the company's performance but rather specific circumstances of one shareholder. Despite the frustration, they express confidence in the company's actions over the past year, which have generated the liquidity needed to absorb the selling pressure. The Tourillon urges shareholders to differentiate between market conditions unrelated to the company and its own strategic efforts. They stress the importance of addressing this issue to ensure shareholders understand the company's trajectory, even amidst positive developments such as successful press releases.

we're often working with 'true analog' LED strips (https://www.adafruit.com/search?q=analog+LED), that have 1-3 channels of RGB or White LEDs. and controlling these takes a bit of wiring since they almost always need 12VDC and driver FETs. to make our lives easier, and maybe even some customer's too, here's a STEMMA board (https://www.adafruit.com/product/3893) that can convert a NeoPixel signal using a WS2811F to three AO3406 N-channel FETs (https://www.digikey.com/short/438tn2hb) that are high efficiency and can sink a chunk of current. there's a 3-channel 74LVC3G14 (https://www.digikey.com/short/tqq3tm3m) inverter in between to convert the WS2811 output signal which is open drain, to the NFETs. 5 terminal block ports allow for easy wiring of the +12V, ground, and RGB common-anode channels. unfortunately the WS2811 does not support 4-channel so this won't work for RGBW strips...but there's a lot of times folks need 1 or 3 channels! The U.S. is struggling to modernize the electric grid, and needs the grid to become more flexible to prevent power outages from the effects of climate change. Anode is creating opportunities for everyday homeowners to earn compensation while supporting the energy grid and combating climate change at the same time.Connect with Behind Company Lines and HireOtter Website Facebook Twitter LinkedIn:Behind Company LinesHireOtter Instagram Buzzsprout
In October's edition of Recharge, co-presenters Matt Fernley (Battery Materials Review) and Cormac O'Laoire (Electrios Energy) discuss all the key newsflow including: feedback from the Fastmarkets European BRM conference, China update, Battery Tech, Lithium pricing & supply. This month we also interview Mark Thompson, MD of Talga Group (ASX:TLG), who talks about some of the issues in the graphite sector, introduces his company's integrated BAM project in Sweden, and gives some excellent insight into the qualification process used for new battery materials projects.
Creating lithium-ion batteries is a hugely energy-intensive process and consequently, battery-electric cars take approximately 17,000km to repay their carbon debt. Nanoramic Laboratories has come up with a way to reduce by over 30% the amount of energy required to manufacture lithium-ion batteries, while at the same time making them more energy-dense, and increasing their expected lifespan. Sound too good to be true I invited Nanoramics Founder and Chief of Products and Innovation, John Cooley to come on the podcast to tell us more.We had a fascinating conversation talking about how Nanoramics technology works, how it can be used in virtually any currently operating battery plant, and John's thoughts on using this tech in stationary storage. I learned loads. I hope you do too.If you have any comments/suggestions or questions for the podcast - feel free to leave me a voice message on my SpeakPipe page, head to the Climate 21 Podcast Forum, or send it to me as a direct message on Twitter/LinkedIn.
