It's Tuesday, December 5th, A.D. 2023. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com.  I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Kevin Swanson Nigeria imprisoned woman who condemned the martyrdom of a Christian Incredibly, a mother of five children has been languishing in a Nigerian prison for allegedly sharing a video in which she condemned the lynching of Deborah Yakubu — a student who was murdered and set on fire by her classmates -- for sharing her Christian faith.   The imprisoned woman, Rhoda Jatau, was almost killed by another mob for sharing the video on What's App. She was subsequently arrested, and has been imprisoned now for the last 18 months.   The United Nations has condemned the Nigerian government's treatment of the case in a letter signed by the Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Religion or Belief and the vice-chair of communications of the Working Group on Arbitrary Detention.  The representatives noted that “Both cases appear to be related to the legitimate exercise of the right to freedom of thought, conscience, and religion and of freedom of opinion and expression. Both are members of a religious minority.” Pray for Rhoda's immediate release. ISIS killed 4, wounded 54 in Philippines Four people were killed in an Islamic terrorist attack in the Philippines on Sunday.   According to the Manila Times, 302 people were gathered when an explosion ripped through the auditorium, wounding 54 and killing 4.  ISIS, a  Muslim terrorist group, has claimed responsibility for the attack on these people made in the image of God.  Argentina's libertarian president-elect pulls out of BRICS Argentina's president-elect, Javier Milei, has called off Argentina's participation in BRICS  — the international, intergovernmental organization made up of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, reports Voice of America.  This comes despite warnings from China's foreign ministry --  produced in a news briefing a week ago, where Mao Ning, the Communist spokeswoman, announced, “It would be a grave mistake if Argentina were to cut off ties with great powers such as China or Brazil. China is Argentina's important trade partner.”  Argentina's new president takes office in five days. Milei has signaled closer ties with the United States.  Russia banned homosexual propaganda In other international news, Russia's Supreme Court has ruled last week that the “international LGBTQ movement is in violation of Russia's Law on Countering Extremism.” Last December, the Russian President, Vladimir Putin, signed a bill into law banning LGBTQ propaganda, suggesting that homosexual relationships are “normal.” Siberia hit 69 degrees below 0 You think it's cold where you live? The Sakha Republic in Siberia hit negative 69 degrees Fahrenheit yesterday, while Moscow and other parts of Russia were clobbered with record snowfall. Biden blocks school lunch funding if they don't push LHBT propaganda Here in America, the Biden administration is blocking school lunch funding to schools that will not abide by its new pro-homosexual guidelines.    The U.S. Department of Agriculture is redefining sexual discrimination to include “discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity.” Senate Republicans have already attempted to overturn the new requirements, but failed by a 47-50 vote. The new requirements will most likely be appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court for a final decision.  Time Magazine's Person of the Year short list Dictators and pop stars made the list of Time Magazine Person of the Year finalists.   Xi Jinping, Taylor Swift, Barbie, King Charles III, Vladimir Putin, the people who have prosecuted Trump, and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, all made the list. The Psalmist cries out in Psalm 12:1-2. “Help, Lord, for the godly man ceases! For the faithful disappear from among the sons of men. They speak idly everyone with his neighbor; With flattering lips and a double heart they speak.” German Catholic Church more liberal than U.S. Catholic Church The New York Times compares the liberal German Catholic Church with the U.S. more conservative Catholic Church on issues like abortion and LGBT.    Germany's liberal clergy is aging, with “only 48 new seminarians in Germany in 2022, for a church that still serves 21 million self-identified Catholics.”   On the other hand, the U.S. Catholic Church counts 3,000 seminarians for 73 million Catholics  — most of whom are conservative on social issues. Construction of manufacturing plants up due to promised gov't subsidies Construction spending on manufacturing plants has almost tripled since 2021 — largely due to a huge government subsidy promised to manufacturing industries to the tune of $52 billion.  The industry sectors affected are semiconductors and Electric Vehicle battery manufacturers.  At the same time, U.S. factory orders have declined 3.6% month over month — the largest drop since April 2020, during the COVID crisis.  Penguin power naps And finally, talk about power naps.   Scientists have discovered that God made penguins with the ability to sleep at the drop of a hat. A recent study found that penguins take thousands of naps a day, averaging 4 seconds each, and amounting to a total of 11 hours of sleep per day.  Psalm 104:24 says, “O Lord, how manifold are Your works! In wisdom, You have made them all. The Earth is full of Your possessions.” Close And that's The Worldview in 5 Minutes on this Tuesday, December 5th in the year of our Lord 2023. Subscribe by iTunes or email to our unique Christian newscast at www.TheWorldview.com. Nine other women also came forward with stories of their own. It's been a difficult road for Leigh, but she says she would do it all over again. In a case that wrapped up earlier this year, Leigh sued Roy Moore for defamation, saying he painted her as a liar while denying her accusations of child sexual abuse. The cover of Time. Many monumental figures of history have graced this much coveted magazine cover: Albert Einstein, JFK, MLK, Pope John Paul II. This year, joining these ranks is Greta Thunberg, this year’s Time Magazine Person of the Year. So much has been said and written about Greta, the 16 year-old Swedish girl who took the world by storm with her furious speeches and international Friday demonstrations. Here in Israel, Greta didn’t receive much coverage. However, many young people felt connected to Greta’s movement, and joined the environmental zeitgeist that was taking over the world. Today we’re finally going to talk about climate change, one of the most controversial topics of our time. Michael Buckland was born in Finland, and made Aliyah 2 years ago. He quickly became aware of issues like the use of plastic and air pollution in Israel, and started getting involved. Soon enough he began organizing protests and today he’s one of the leaders of a new Israeli green movement. We’re happy to have Michael Buckland on the podcast today to talk about climate change!

Mike, Dave and Steve discuss Restaurant Inspection Reports, Techie Hotels, 12 days of Christmas and Time Magazine Person of the Year.   Discussion 1. Kern County's Environmental Health Services Department has added another dimension to their restaurant inspection reports. The department has synced its search engine with several smart phone applications to allow users the ability to pull up a restaurant or facility's inspection reports and violations instantly. Does your local health agency have these types of services? Let us know. 2. Techie Hotels When we think tech in hotels, we think about flat screen TVs, high speed Internet access, touch screen slot machines, and iPod docking stations. Steve had a new experience with a hotel in Laughlin, NV. A hotel key controlled the lights and electricity of the hotel room, turning the lights on and off as you enter and exit the room. Not only is this a subtle way of integrating tech but also a way of caring for Mother Nature. 3.iTunes 12 days of Christmas On the 12th Day of Christmas, Steve Jobs sent to me....12 free downloads! Between December 26 and January 6, Apple is offering iTunes users free books, apps, songs, movies, and TV episodes. Apple is releasing a special app for the occasion, iTunes 12 Days of Christmas. Look for it soon. 4.  Times Magazine Person of the Year - Mark Zuckerberg The Waves crew has some very mixed opinions on Mark Zuckerberg being named the “Person of the Year” by Times. The award does not sit well with Steve and Dave, arguing that the success of Facebook is user based and there are more worthy persons deserving. Mikee argues that Zuckerberg has created a platform unlike anything else, connecting 300+ million people. 5.  Roku player software version 2.9 b1509 now available Get it. It's a great one! 6. Microsoft planning to unveil Verizon and Sprint Windows Phone 7 devices at CES Microsoft plans on announcing that WP7 will be available on the Verizon and Sprint networks.
