I'm thrilled to welcome back pitch and presentation expert Ben Levy for his encore appearance on Confessions of a Creative Director. Ben has a new book out called Stop Reading Slides: How to nail creative presentations and sell your best ideas. This book covers everything you need to know about the topic but today we're going to focus on perhaps the most important part which is overcoming client objections. We've all been there. We present the best work of our lives....and the client just doesn't "get it" or thinks "it won't work."
Presentation Coach, Creative Director, and Author, Ben Levy joins Jeff Abracen to break down the art of creative agency presentations, why the best idea doesn't always win, and how to structure a story that sells.Dig into the biggest mistakes people make in presentations (and how to fix them), why reading slides out loud is killing your pitch, how confidence in public speaking is built through preparation—not personality, the power of pacing meetings to avoid information overload, why agencies need to ditch templates and start answering the right questions, how to create conversations instead of monologues, and how Ben overcame social anxiety and became a presentation coach…and so much more!Find Ben Levy Here:https://www.linkedin.com/in/sellitgreat/https://www.sellitgreat.com/https://www.sellitgreat.com/shophttps://schoolofastonishingpursuits.com/Chapters00:00 Intro05:42 Overcoming Presentation Anxiety12:52 The Importance of Storytelling in Presentations21:09 Building Trust Through Effective Communication25:05 Teaching and Learning in the Creative Industry33:25 The Power of Storytelling in Presentations35:20 Influence of Family on Communication Skills37:54 Overcoming Presentation Challenges40:09 Learning from Industry Leaders42:40 The Importance of Authenticity in Presentations46:30 Lessons from Presentation Failures50:27 Understanding Client Expectations52:59 Competing for Attention in a Noisy World54:13 Disruptive Presentation Techniques57:18 Building Strong Client Relationships59:05 The Role of Mentorship in GrowthConnect with Jeff Abracen on LinkedIn [https://www.linkedin.com/in/jeffabracen/]If you are or know a disruptive influencer who would make a great guest, we'd love to hear from you. In this episode of Half Time Scholars, our guest is Mr. Ben Levy, a scholar-practitioner with over 24 years of experience in higher education internationalisation, decolonisation, and indigeneity. Ben's career has spanned six continents, where he has demonstrated a strong commitment to fostering equitable and sustainable partnerships across diverse contexts and cultures. As a Senior International Officer at a U.S. public tertiary institution, he played a pivotal role in advancing comprehensive internationalisation strategies and securing federal grants to support these initiatives. Currently a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Waikato, Ben's research focuses on the intersections of national, regional, and international priorities in the tertiary education systems of Oceania's island nations, including Samoa, Tonga, and Fiji. His work critically examines how global rankings and internationalisation often perpetuate colonial legacies, advocating instead for strategies that center Indigenous Oceania values and knowledge systems. By employing context-bound methodologies such as talanoa, Ben aims to contribute to a more equitable and transformational approach to internationalisation in higher education. Join us as we explore the complexities of higher education in Oceania and discuss Ben's vision for decolonising and contextualising internationalisation to benefit Indigenous communities.

In this second part of his journey from the River Jordan to the Mediterranean Sea, across the Israeli-occupied West Bank and Israel, reporter Tim Whewell continues his exploration of the physical and human reality behind the slogan “From the River to the Sea”, a phrase which creates intense controversy. In this podcast he descends from the high ridge of the West Bank hills to the Israeli Mediterranean coast at Herzlia, known for its beaches and high-tech industry – and then continues along the sea, to end his journey at the ruined ancient city of Caesarea. Along the way, on the West Bank, he encounters a Palestinian dry stone waller and an Israeli hairdresser – and then, crossing into Israel, he talks to Jewish Israelis including teachers, activists and a journalist – and to Palestinian citizens of Israel. Finally, he meets a group of young Israelis who have recently finished their military service. Some of them have been fighting in Gaza. What future do all these people hope for, in the 90 kilometres between the River and the Sea? Presenter/producer: Tim Whewell Sound mixing: Neil Churchill Production co-ordinator: Gemma Ashman Editor: Penny Murphy (Photo shows some of the people Tim meets in the two parts of the series. Clockwise from top left: Ben Levy, Israeli nature ranger; Sulieman Mleahat, Palestinian development worker; Susie Becher, Israeli political activist; Okayla Shehadi, retired Palestinian citizen of Israel.)
Since the start of the war between Israel and Hamas last year, the cry “From the River to the Sea” has been heard more and more as a pro-Palestinian slogan. But what river? What sea? And what exactly does the phrase mean? It's the subject of intense controversy. In this two-part series, reporter Tim Whewell travels from the River Jordan to the Mediterranean Sea, across a tiny stretch of land – just over an hour by car if you don't stop - that's perhaps the most argued-over in the world. Along the way, he meets shepherds and teachers, soldiers and gardeners, artists and activists - Palestinians and Israelis of many different views and backgrounds. The shortest line from the River to the Sea doesn't pass through Gaza. But everyone Tim meets on his journey across the Israeli-occupied West Bank of the River, and in Israel, is living in the terrible shadow of the October 7th Hamas attack on Israel and the war that's followed. The future of the often-beautiful, fast-changing, overcrowded region he crosses will be at the heart of any eventual solution to the Middle East conflict. In this first programme, he goes from the Jordan, through the Israeli settlement of Argaman, the Palestinian herding community of al-Farisiyah and the Palestinian village of Duma, ending up at the Israeli settlement of Shilo. What do people in those places think now – and do they have any hope for the future? (In Part 2, Tim leaves the West Bank and travels through Israel.) In s3e10 of Platemark, hosts Ann Shafer and Ben Levy talk with Julia Samuels, master printer and owner of Overpass Projects, Pawtucket, RI. Ann and Ben were thrilled to visit Overpass in person for the recording of this episode. It's so great to see what guests are talking about and to be able to take photographs of the space, artists, and prints. Julia creates her own work primarily in black-and-white linoleum cuts, but is, in fact, a natural colorist—It comes easily to her. She is on a mission to economize colors for artists she works with, and she often creates palettes for them to plan their projects from. She has created such palettes for artists working in both screenprint and etching—two very different techniques requiring different approaches to layering colors. Sounds complicated, and, for me, it is. See if you agree. Julia and Overpass Projects are exhibiting at the Satellite Print Fair in New York, October 27–30, 2022. That fair is being held at Shop Studios, 528 West 39th Street, 3rd fl., which is just around the corner from the Jacob Javits Center, the site of the IFPDA Print Fair that is occurring at the same time.

“It's not the best idea that wins. It's the most persuasive.” - Ben Levy The Ills of Advertising Today & How to Correct It The Don Draper style of advertising has to die. The glamorous picture of ad agencies staying up all night partying, to emerge in the wee hours with THE idea is over. That is simply not how great ideas get sold anymore. Ben prompts us to think differently about the ills that are facing creative agencies, and those of us who present our ideas. That's all of us. In this episode, Ben shares about the dark side of persuasion, how education has failed today's brilliant creatives, and how we can bring the best of advertising forward and make it better. Ben gives us the key to presenting our ideas in a way that is empowering and feels good because we have the skills now that match our style. And it's not about trying to be Meryl Streep or George Clooney! What you will learn in this episode: Why the Don Draper Mad Men Advertising era has to completely die, and the real purpose of presenting. What it's costing agencies, teams and individuals to give lackluster presentations. The difference between persuasion and manipulation. The number one ingredient needed to persuade (in a good way). What you want your fellow Zoom comrades to be thinking as they arrive on a Zoom call. Links Mentioned Ben is offering a FREE 30 minute call to listeners to discuss how he can help and your team sell your ideas great! Check out his website, SellItGreat.com, and his LinkedIn to set up your complimentary call.

We also do our own take on My First Million's ideas show where we ask Ben what are his top ideas that he would like to create next and we walk through/strategize how we would go about creating these products. Buy and Build: Acquiring an Online Business & Building in Public
In today's episode, We speak to one of our closest internet friends that we've never met, Ben Levy. Ben was one of the originators of the All Access Pass where he and Shaan Puri (from My First Million Podcast) created a daily newsletter and email blast out about how they were going to build three projects, as well as a Slack Community where all three of us (Ben, Nicholas and Darryl) met. We talk about Ben's entrepreneurial background, his time at FanDuel while it raised a wild amount of money, how he became Shaan's business partner and some projects that he's working/investing in now (https://pallet.xyz/). This is a fun one and we're truly excited because if you ever gotten to know Ben, you know he's a down to earth guy, super humble and fun to talk to but is not too public about promoting himself, so this is somewhat of an exclusive

GRACEcast - Discussions with the Global Resource for Advancing Cancer Education
In April of 2020, GRACE Board Members Dr. H. Jack West, Dr. Jared Weiss and Dr. Ben Levy had a candid discussion regarding telemedicine in the time of the current pandemic. In this time of social distancing and limiting clinic exposure, the sudden need for telemedicine and web consults is perhaps changing the future of medicine on a faster pace than we have previously thought possible. In this three part series the doctors discuss a wide range of topics surrounding the use of telemedicine and potential challenges for providers and patients alike. Does this new process create new helpful tools? How does the informality of online visits affect the Doctor/Patient relationship? Are there limitations to telemedicine - when and who is it good for, does it disrupt the ritualization of doctor/patient visits, and the ability to assess the patient? Is it sustainable? For more, please visit http://cancerGRACE.org/. To join the conversation, visit https://cancergrace.org/forum.
