On today's episode  I start off with my weekend misadventure at a taco spot in Suffolk Long island, this was the most gentrified restaurant i have been to, you can tell none of the cooks spoke a word of Spanish, it was quite impressive how bad it was. If you can't tell from reading this that i was highly disappointed a whole week later, yeah. I also got to do some shopping for the girlies in my life and we need to do something with the naming of some of the products they use. Highly inappropriate just like this episode. From there I end up in the cold streets of Roblox aka the Bronx, we were in BoBaine Bity selling hello kitty jello. Felt like i was back in 2003 living a normal life. SERIUS JONES - HEIR TO THE THRONECYHI - LA LEAKERS FREESTYLE(00:00 - 32:30)I have a new not so new segment which is about movie reviews and spoilers. This week i speak about  a 90's throwback “daylight” where Sylvester Stallone is fighting a cave in outside of the ring.  It was a good movie from its time but there was a lot of scenes that didn't make any sense, and they definitely exaggerated the size of the tunnel, me and others that have never been to the Lincoln Tunnel were bamboozled. Bunch if fibbers.(32:31 - 41:46)I then jump into The Cool Report  where i discuss  local crime in my area, and the waste of police force for one person. They called in everyone to catch one man suspected of being part of a car theft ring in NYC. They had multiple agencies and robots, that sounded so crazy to me, they had snipers ready to take the shots at someone that didn't even put up a fight. From there i talk about Dr Mark Lamont Hill and how they tried to Delroy Del Lindo and it was hilarious. P Morgan really tried it. Then we jump Linda McMahon vs Harvard and boy oh boy did she get washed. It should have really been PPV she really missed the bag with that one. (41:47 - 57:31)We then step into a segment where the listeners ask me 3 questions about myself or just randomness. A character asks me about Sinners again and i had to set the oven to Broil since they wanted examples on how it was not an original piece. Brother oh Brother wrong one for that argument. Another one wants to know if your phone has ever suggested disrespectful ads to you and the answer is yes, yes 1000s times. No commercials i don't need pills to get taller, sheesh. Than i get a question i was considering ducking but i went down the rabbit hole. Kanye drops a video for his 4eil hitter song and they pulled it from a lot of streaming services. Now i do not agree with hate speech but i don't think that song qualifies neither does the video. wait wait wait now he does end it with that's mans speech but he spoke more of his life than anything else. So i don't know how to feel on subject especially when there is already hate speech and music on a lot of DSP's. (57:32 - 01:22:22)Then we have 2 fans ask us a questions for PTL where we get asked the tough questions where we place ourselves in their shoes. Like is it okay to have a suggestion box on each other during a relationship. I want to know how far can i go with suggestions, like how far is too far. Another lover wants to know if she's the problem or her partner . I think we can never know and sometimes it is left unspoken. So basically her man left her it got things shaking with someone else and seems to be happier.  So was he unhappy recently with her or was he ever happy to begin with. Was she just a safe haven until the right one came by. The world will never know(01:22:23 - 01:31:33)THE FINi give thank to everyone that shows us love and wish y'all the best on the journey called life.(01:31:34 - 01:33:49)please continue to like, share, comment and subscribe.PEACE OUT!!!! For questions to be answered on Part time lover please email @nospecialcharacterspod@gmail.comTIME CODEINTRO/ WHAT'S NEW - 00:00MOVIE REVIEW - 32:31THE COOL REPORT - 41:47ASK ME A QUESTION - 57:32PART TIME LOVER - 01:22:23OUTRO - 01:31:34

Chilly Bakes Gluten-Free
Espresso Toffee Creme Brulee

Chilly Bakes Gluten-Free

Play Episode Listen Later Jan 17, 2025 13:10

Hi Bakers, This dessert failed…sort of. Creme brûlée without a torch?…Not so simple! I wanted to try both sugar and toffee as the topping in case people didn't want to make the toffee. Regular sugar didn't caramelize under the broiler and completely heated the custard. Thankfully, the toffee bits melted quickly and were amazing. Espresso Toffee Creme Brûlée is naturally gluten-free and easy to make. The combination of toffee and custard is phenomenal and something you can't get in a restaurant. I used milk and cream for a lighter custard, but if you want something richer, reduce the amount of milk to 1/4 cup and increase the heavy cream amount to 2 3/4 cups. Sorry, this video was a hot mess but it was a good experiment in making something I had never tried before! Enjoy ~Carolyn Note; Ramekin size stated wrong on the video but the correct size is listed in recipe!  Espresso Toffee Creme Brulée  makes 6 ramekins 3.5” x 1.5” 2 1/2 cups heavy cream 1/2 cup whole milk 1 1/2 tablespoons instant espresso powder 5  large egg yolks  1/2 cup granulated sugar 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract pinch of salt Garnish whipped cream toffee bits Preheat oven to 300F and place rack in the middle position. Line a 9” x13” baking pan with a small towel and place greased ramekins on top of it. Set aside. Whisk together egg yolks, sugar and vanilla in a small bowl and set aside. In a heavy saucepan, stir together cream, milk, espresso and salt. Heat  and stir milk mixture until bubbling but not boiling. Slowly add a cup of hot milk mixture to the egg yolks while whisking. Pour egg yolk milk mixture through a fine mesh strainer into saucepan with remaining milk. Whisk together well. Ladle into prepared ramekins. Add 1 1/2 inches of warm water to baking pan containing ramekins being careful not to get water into them them. Carefully place pan into the oven and bake for about 40-50 minutes or until just set but still jiggling in the middle. Remove from water containing pan and let cool to room temperature. Cool overnight in the fridge or at least a few hours. Prepare toffee topping with recipe below or buy plan toffee to use as topping. Toffee Topping 1/2 cup butter 1/2 cup granulated sugar 2 tablespoons water 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract Combine all ingredients except vanilla in a heavy saucepan. Cook over medium-high heat while stirring until mixture reaches 305F or hard crack stage. You can measure with a candy thermometer or other favorite method. I like to drop some into cold water and if it's hard and shatters when you bite it, that's hard crack. Remove from the heat and stir in vanilla extract. Pour onto a silicone mat or marble slab. Cool and break into chunks saving some for garnish. Chop toffee with a large knife into small pieces to cover brûlée and broil as topping. How to broil toffee topping Set the oven to low broil and place rack in the top position. Add chopped toffee to cover about 1 tablespoon per ramekin. Broil for a few minutes or until toffee melts but doesn't brown. Add a sprinkle of large grain salt and serve immediately. If  melting takes more than a few minutes in your oven, chill to reset the brûlée and toffee for 10 minutes. Garnish with whipped cream and chopped toffee bits right before serving. Do not broil toffee topping and leave overnight, the toffee top starts to get soft and butter that was melted gets solid and not in a good way.

In this 15th episode of ‘The Word is Leadership' the random word of the week is broil. Emmanuel uses the definition of broil, to make a link between the uncontrolled/controlled use of fire and the responses leaders have to unexpected events and crises. He emphasises the need for leaders to master the skill of broiling (the dynamics of controlling and directing high heat) instead of engaging in aimless firefighting. Exploring the concept of broiling further he offers the equation E + r or R = O (where E represents the event, r stands for react, R denotes respond, and O signifies the outcome) as a way for leaders to navigate the challenges they face. The distinction between reactive reflexes and thoughtful responses is underscored, emphasizing the need for leaders to build processes and networks that will help them transition from aimless firefighting to controlled broiling.

(Sara). You can currently find Avery Konrad as "Sara" in the MGM+ hit, "From"Avery and I talk about her role in "From", her career and so much more.Avery Konrad is an actress from British Columbia. From bringing characters to life in film and television to performing on stage, Avery Konrad is quickly becoming "one to watch" in the entertainment industry. This year, Konrad can be seen starring in Epix's contemporary sci-fi horror series, "FROM". The series unravels the mystery of a nightmarish town in middle America that traps all those who enter. As the unwilling residents fight to keep a sense of normalcy and search for a way out, they must also survive the threats of the surrounding forest - including the terrifying creatures that come out when the sun goes down. Konrad shines as Sara Myers, a true wild card among the town's residents: some think her mind was simply fractured by the residents of the town; others wonder if, in her madness, Sara is closer to the secrets of this place than anyone else. "FROM" premieres on February 20, 2022.In film, Konrad is set to star in Paramount+ "Honor Society", alongside Angourie Rice (Mare of Eas*own), Gaten Matarazzo (Stranger Things, Prank Encounters), and Christopher Mintz-Plasse (Super Bad, Kick-Ass). The film tells the story of Honor (Rice), a high school senior whose sole focus is getting into Harvard. Willing to do whatever it takes, Honor plans to take down her top three student competitors, until things take a turn when she unexpectedly falls for her biggest competition. "Honor Society" is slated to release in late 2022.Additionally, Konrad was recently seen as Chance Sinclair, leading Amazon's horror-thriller, "Broil", opposite Timothy Murphy and Jonathan Lipnicki. The film premiered in fall 2020 and follows Chance after she is sent to live with her reclusive grandfather (Murphy). As she seeks to uncover the true origin of her eccentric grandfather's exorbitant wealth-and a mysterious familial health condition going back generations-she is caught between two warring factions of the family. Konrad was also seen portraying Roan Harper, sister to Juliette Lewis, in the acclaimed Facebook Watch series, "Sacred Lies: The Singing Bones". The series received rave reviews and was included in Paste Magazine's, "12 Best TV Shows on Facebook Watch". Additional credits include recurring roles in ABC's "The Good Doctor, Neelix's "Van Helsing", and CBC's "Unspeakable".Born in Vancouver, Konrad was bit by the acting bug at a young age, when she took an intensive at the Vancouver Film School and performed her first monologue. The experience felt magical to her and that spark s[ll remains to this day. Konrad landed her first role as Gina Sarland in R.L Stein's "The Haunting Hour" series (2012) and has been working ever since.Welcome, Avery Konrad.Monday Morning Critic: Instagram, TiKTok, YouTube and Facebook.www.imdb.com/title/tt12597724/www.mmcpodcast.com

Use a sharp knife to remove the peels and pith from the citrus, then slice into ½-inch-thick rounds. Place the pieces of citrus (and any juices) in an even layer on a baking sheet. Drizzle the honey and olive oil evenly over the slices. 2. Turn the broiler on low, then transfer the baking sheet to the top rack of the oven. Broil until the juices bubble and begin to thicken on the baking sheet, and the citrus begins to caramelize, about 4 minutes. 3. While the citrus cooks, place the slices of brioche on another baking sheet. In a small bowl, stir the butter, brown sugar, cinnamon and vanilla until well combined. 4. When the citrus is caramelized, remove the pan from the oven and cool. Transfer the brioche to the oven and toast until golden brown, about 3 minutes. Place a heaping tablespoon of the butter mixture on each slice and spread into an even layer. 5. Scoop ¼ of the ricotta on top of each piece of bread, and spread into an even layer. Prue Leith is a beloved co-host of the popular British cooking series, "The Great British Bakeoff." This fall, she's released her latest cookbook, Bliss on Toast, with seventy-five recipes for ingredients and flavors that go great on toast, a British classic. Prue Leith joins to share her love of things on toast and take your calls.   Apricots, almonds & Devonshire clotted cream on an English muffin This is the most divine, indulgent and irresistible dessert. Don't skimp on the cream or jam. Better forgo it altogether than try to make it healthy! It's best made with ripe fresh apricots. If using canned fruit, roast them anyway – it will deepen their flavor. 2 large apricots, or 3 small ones 3 tbsp butter, half of it melted 2 tsp sugar 1 English muffin, split and toasted 2 tbsp apricot preserves 1 tbsp sliced almonds, toasted (see tip, below) 1 small jar of Devonshire clotted cream, or ¾ cup mascarpone Get the broiler as hot as possible. Halve the apricots, remove the pits and put the halves, pitted side up, on a broiler pan. Brush them with the melted butter and sprinkle with the sugar. Broil, not too close to the elements or gas flame, for 8–10 minutes until brown around the edges. Meanwhile, butter the toasted muffin halves and put them on warm plates. Spread them with apricot preserves and share the apricot halves between them. Sprinkle with the almonds and serve with clotted cream or mascarpone. TIP You can toast the sliced almonds in the oven under the broiler pan at the same time as roasting the apricots, but they burn in a flash, so be careful. Safer, probably, to stand over them while you gently turn them in a frying pan, or cook for 3 minutes in the microwave, giving them a stir halfway.

In this week's episode I'm finally getting a chance to tell you about this beautiful tomato zucchini salad I concepted months and months ago to pair with a crispy panko-crusted salmon dish. This one's super easy to throw together with not many ingredients, and it's super calorie-friendly too. Give it a try and thank you so much for listening!   Featured Recipe for this Episode 4 cloves of garlic, minced Fresh dill, chopped (optional) 1 T lemon juice 1 T cracked black pepper for salad 1 t salt for salad 1 T olive oil 2 c green zucchini, quartered 32 oz container of mozzarella pearls (optional) 2 c sweet cherry tomatoes, halved or quartered Preheat your oven to 400°. Place your zucchini in a large bowl and drizzle over your olive oil and add some salt and pepper- NOT the S&P you've reserved for the salad itself.  Roast them on an elevated rack on a baking tray in the center of the oven for 10-12 minutes. Place them on the top oven rack and turn the broiler on high. Broil until they start to blister and caramelize, then remove from the oven. Allow them to cool.  Chop your zucchini and tomatoes to be the same size as the mozzarella pearls, if you're using them. Keep your chopping consistent so your bite is consistent. Add the garlic, dill, lemon juice, salt, and pepper. Toss everything together until well-coated and serve immediately. Yield: 4 cups Calories per Serving: 102 per 1/2 cup- omitting the mozzarella from the recipe makes it only 32 per serving. Variations: Replace the dill with basil and drizzle a balsamic reduction over this for an elevated caprese-style salad. Replace the lemon and dill with lime and cilantro and add in a teaspoon of chili powder or cayenne pepper for a fresh salad with a little kick. In this episode of The SavvyCast, I share my favorite store-bought frozen food items and how I use them to prepare delicious meals, appetizers, snacks, and more. Here is what you'll find in this episode: The Flying Meatballs (My favorite kind is their Three Meat Beef, Veal, and Pork meatballs!) When preparing these meatballs, I love to combine them with Rao's sauce, especially if I'm adding these meatballs to spaghetti. If I really want to take it over-the-top, then I'll occasionally add burrata cheese. Callie's Hot Little Biscuit (The Cheese and Chive are my favorite). Against the Grain Gourmet Three Cheese Gluten-Free Pizza Shell To prepare this pizza crust, I spray it with EVOO and add meat. Then, I add different kinds of cheeses: shredded or pre-grated parmesan, shredded and balled mozzarella, and burrata cheese. When it comes to pizza sauce, I love to use either Buitoni Pesto, Classico Pesto, or Costco's Basil Pesto. Against the Grain Gourmet Baguettes Drizzling these baguettes with an infused oil or spraying them with EVOO makes them taste delicious! Then, I loosely wrap them in foil and place them in a 400°F oven. Dr. Praeger's Black Bean Quinoa Veggie Burgers (Gluten-Free AND Vegan) To prepare these, I spray them with EVOO, place them in a Breville Smart Oven on the Air Fry function. (If they don't start getting crisp, turn it up to a Broil.) Let it sit for 5-10 minutes. I love adding avocado on top of these burgers, and when I season my avocado, I use Lawry's Garlic Salt or Everything but the Bagel Seasoning. Trader Joe's Authentic Italian Penne Arrabbiata Trader Joe's Butter Chicken Alexia Foods Sweet Potato Fries & Puffs and Onion Rings Realgood Foods Stuffed Chicken Diced Frozen Onions (I ALWAYS have a bag of this on hand.) Resources related to this podcast: @theflyingmeatballs on Instagram If you enjoyed this podcast episode, then I highly encourage you to check out this previous episode where my friend, Marie, and I discuss our favorite things to buy at Trader Joe's. We include a list of 40+ items! Also, if you don't already, be sure to follow me on Instagram (@family_savvy) to see my latest kitchen creations, recipes, beauty finds, and more.

Go Caribbean without leaving your kitchen. All you need are four things — fresh pineapple rings, butter, rum, and balsamic vinegar. Mix it all together in a bowl and brush it on the pineapple slices. Broil them in the oven for seven minutes on each side, until the slices are beautifully caramelized. Sprinkle them with a dash of cinnamon and serve with vanilla ice cream. I like to toss on chopped macadamia nuts and turn up the Hawaiian music. If you’re serving to guests who don’t drink alcohol, skip the rum. With episode 20 looming large I decided to talk longer about some of our regular segments today and to review ten things that new homesteaders should consider as they start working on a their piece of land. We have a new development! Samantha the Savings Ninja has agreed to give us a monthly savings segment. I asked her a question about couponing because I am just now relearning how to use them in the modern age of rewards cards, cell phones and rapidly intensifying technology. Do you have a question for Samantha? Send me an email with the subject line: LFTN Savings Ninja and I'll see about getting your question on the next show. Things to ask a consultant before bringing them to your property: Who have they worked with before and what do those folks say about them? How forthcoming with their experience are they? Have they done a PDC or are they rather new to the discipline? Will they let you come visit their farm before you decide? (which can tell you what they have implemented.) What mother nature is providing The last cabbage & a lesson on broccoli Kale Oyster Mushrooms Stinging Nettle  (Gathering hikes will keep me walking) Watercress is back 2 eggs a day (No yay) Tales from the Prepper Pantry The weekly squash - week 4: Roasted Butternut Squash Bake. Ingredients: Olive oil, garlic, salt, smoked paprika - Link to the spice mix I use. Roast at 425 for 25 minutes Place in a casserole dish with mozzarella and butter wedges. Broil until there is a nice top crust. The story of the ham. 1) Ham, mashed and green beans 2) Sliced for sandwich meat 3) Ham Tetrazzini 4) Ham, cabbage and cheese Bierocks 5) Ham and field peas (Ham and beans) Pickled appetizers - ends up turning into farmer's platter dinners. Five steps in creating your garden Observe Visioning Plan Develop Implement Zones Questions to ask yourself What are your priorities when you use your yard? Do you want a great “hangout space? Is food production your number one goal? Do you need to look good and fit into a neighborhood? Do your children need a good, flat play space? How does the sun hit your property at different times of day and different times of the year? With that information, what sorts of hazards do you need to plan for (safety, deer population, flooding areas, super dry areas, wind patterns? What plants do you just really love and want to have in my yard? Which ones do you hate? How much time will you realistically spend tending the outdoor space?
