Live—from the campus of Hillsdale College in beautiful Hillsdale Michigan— this is Scot Bertram in for Steve on the Steve Gruber Show for   –Monday December 18th 2023—   —Here are 3 big things you need to know—   One —  Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin is in Israel today to get an update on the war in Gaza.  His visit comes as President Biden has criticized Israel over mounting civilian casualties as it tries to destroy the Hamas.  There have been hints that Israel could move to a lower-intensity strategy in the New Year and if that's the case, Austin wants to hear the plan.   Two—  Michigan's average gasoline price is under three-dollars a gallon for the first time in 2023. Triple-A Michigan says the statewide average is down 15-cents from last week to two-dollars-96-cents, which is 35-cents below last month and 12-cents less than last year.  The state's highest price is in Marquette at three-18, while Traverse City has the lowest prices at two-87 a gallon.   And number three — One Democratic senator is comparing the flow of immigrants to the U.S. to a sold-out concert.  Speaking on CNN's State of the Union, Joe Manchin of West Virginia said the U.S. is at capacity and it's become dangerous to let more people enter the country.

Today's show opens with a continuation from last Friday regarding the work being done by the subcommittee, looking into the J6 Committee's findings. It's amazing to me that the original J6 folks were okay destroying all of their collected evidence and work product and think nothing of it. I am hoping to get the chair of that committee, Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-GA) for a dedicated special interview before the end of the year. Next I address the dreadful silence from the #MeToo movement and the UN Women organization. I first start by reading some testimony from eye-witness accounts of October 7. Let me be clear, if you are currently supporting or sympathizing with the Palestinian people and Hamas, you have no moral center in your life. You cannot possible look at both sides and see a moral equivalence. To go deeper into this thought, we look at comments made by Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) on CNN's State of the Union with Dana Bash. Over the course of a few sound bites, it's clear she stands with Hamas, she is an anti-Semite and she will not be happy until Israel is wiped off the map. Anyone who stands with her is standing for the same outcome. We now turn to Dr. Mandy “Giggles” Cohen, who is the current head of the CDC. Before we get to a hearing from late last week, I first remind you how she conducted public health in North Carolina during Covid. Sharing pre-teen school girl giggles is not public health. This leads to Dr. Neal Dunn (R-FL) asking about the CDC's carelessness and unprofessional approach to news of an unlicensed Chinese Bio Lab discovered in a California suburb. Even with the evidence detailed before her, Dr. Mandy “Giggles” Cohen dismissed it as untrue and that was about all she had to say. Just that it wasn't true. It's stunning to see these children in charge of agencies responsible for the public health of the nation. We now move to a Zoom call with White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, who wants people in black and brown neighborhoods to know they are safe. How do we know? Because Joe Biden says he takes it very seriously. She said he wants people to “feel” safe and the “feelings” of safety are important because have safe “feelings” and “feeling” protected is the same thing as being safe. It's amazing how much the Left relies only on emotions and feelings and completely dismisses reality. Well, a group in Chicago, made of black and brown people, are sick and tired of Democrats. While the Biden regime may back in feelings, the people there are telling each other it's time to vote for Republicans. Finally, we close with another installment of Deep Thoughts with VP Kamala Harris. This time, she weighs-in on the solution to fix the issues between Hamas and Israel. Today I jump right into a reminder of some of the IRS whistleblower testimony and how it runs contrary to every Joe Biden denial about having business knowledge with Hunter Biden. While the Legacy/mainstream media shows zero interest in doing anything close to journalistic ethics, Hunter's former business partner, Devon Archer, is set to give testimony this week. Remember how the media took the unsubstantiated Steele Dossier and ran with it like it was Gospel? If you don't I bring your a short two-minute super-cut of how they were ALL-IN on it's veracity and never once thought to question it. Now, with the unredacted FBI 1023 form released by Senator Chuck Grassley, detailing with great specificity the bribes paid to the Biden family by the CEO of Burisma Holdings in Ukraine, you'd think it might warrant a segment or two on the national news. Well, you'd be mistaken. In fact, the most I could find was a dismissal from CNN basically saying Senator Grassley put a source at risk over nothing more than a “long debunked” story. Oh? Who debunked it? And how long ago? And what evidence was given to show it was debunked? The GOP showed early on that the Steele Dossier was bought and paid for by the Hillary Clinton campaign and the DNC, but they still believed it to be true. So, what did the FBI present to prove their decade long confidential human source was a liar and untrustworthy? Why keep someone on the payroll, greater than six figures, if he wasn't reliable? You would think those would be the questions asked over the weekend. They weren't. That's why I keep telling you it's no longer worth watching any of the Legacy/mainstream media. Onto the Censorship hearings! I can't make this up. Debbie Wassermann Schultz (D-FL) literally opened the censorship hearing with a call to censor Robert F. Kenney, Jr. When that failed, she still tried to conflate nonsense to make it look like he is an antisemite and a spreader of anti-Asian hate. All of that came from him citing a study, funded by the NIH and published on their website. Thankfully, Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) had the very study to read into the record. Later, Rep. Linda Sanchez (D-CA) and Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-VA) tried a different tact. To them, our rights are not unlimited and they are justified in taking down information they deem to be incorrect. Think about that! Democrats admitting your rights are actually limited by the government and that the government should be the ultimate authority over what is considered correct information. Finally we get a quote from Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) from CNN's State of the Union. She said she had impeach Donald Trump because he made that phone call to Ukraine. She said, “There was no choice, we had no choice! He must be impeached.” In light of all of the corruption and payouts from Ukraine to the Biden Crime Family, it's no wonder they panicked over that call. DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas took a victory lap on CNN's State of the Union, taking pride in a 50% reduction of illegals over the weekend. They completely ignored the record breaking daily numbers and even though we are still at 5000 a day for the past two, they want you to think that's hardly worthy noticing. They are gaslighting us in real-time. To show you how bad that number is, I go back to 2019 when former Obama DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson was on MSNBC. At that time, they were talking about a surge of 4000 illegals in one day under the Trump administration. Jeh Johnson stated over a 1000 a day overwhelms the system. So, four years ago, more than 1000 arrests a day was overwhelming, but today, Biden, Harris and Mayorkas want you to think 5000 a day is business as usual and nothing worth noting. Even looking at the Got-Away numbers from Border Patrol, we have seen a dramatic rise, month-to-month since Biden came into office. The numbers were around 9,500 a month and now are more than 64,000 a month. That's over and above the ones captured and processed. No matter how they try to present it, we have a massive crisis that I believe is happening by design. They want a permanent and dependent under-class to keep them in power for the rest of their lives. My next topic deals with the current investigations into the Biden Crime Family Syndicate. President Biden had an angry and confusing response to being asked about his own corruption. Apparently, Donald Trump lives rent-free in Biden's head. On a concerning note, Rep. James Comer (R-KY) admitted that many of the whistleblowers/informants they are relying on are either missing or unavailable. It's distressing to hear how these folks are being intimidated, threatened or are disappearing before the investigation is even complete. Biden managed to outdo himself with a hateful and bigoted speech delivered to Howard University. He regurgitated the talking point that White Supremacy is the biggest terrorist threat we face as a nation. That is a ridiculous lie and one meant to divide and disparage all Americans. Gunny J Wells took to TikTok and had something to say about that. Finally, we get a short installment of Deep Thoughts with VP Kamala Harris. She never ceases to provide us with some solid, head-scratching, word-salad when she's allowed to speak off-the-cuff to an audience. Interestingly, in 2019, former Obama Administration Department of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson said 1,000 illegal border crossings per day would “overwhelm” the country.

The balloon had been tracked for several days flying over the continental United States, as well as Alaska and Canada. According to U.S. Air Force General Glen VanHerk, the balloon may have been carrying explosives, giving it the capability to self-destruct.  3:20pm- On Monday, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre spoke with reporters about the Biden Administration's decision to shoot down the Chinese reconnaissance balloon. Notably, KJP told reporters that the National Security Council sent out information about the balloon via TikTok—a social media account believed to be closely tied to the Chinese government and used to harvest user data on behalf of China's Communist party.  3:40pm- Mama Zeoli witnessed the Chinese spy balloon being shot out of the sky! And, lucky for us, actually captured the event on video—complete with play-by-play details. Today is the holiday celebrated in honor of the work done by the civil right icon, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. We are reminded that today is meant to be a day on, not a day off. In the spirit of that notion, I am going to bring a portion of my favorite MLK, Jr. Speech at the end of the show. First, we remind you White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said no less than six times the search for more classified documents was complete. Ironic, given more documents were found over the weekend. It's getting to the point where even Legacy/mainstream media outlets are wondering what else is happening behind the scenes. And, while they have to wonder, there are still Biden sycophant mouth-pieces doing all they can to excuse the President's irresponsibility. On Sunday, the host of CBS's Face the Nation, Margaret Brennan, asked Representative Daniel Goldman (D-NY) about the special counsel assigned to investigate and if he had been wrong to initially call it a mistake? He did all he could to avoid the question and once again talked about how much the President was cooperating. She followed up, asking why would Biden send his lawyers to look for documents when they don't have security clearances themselves? Goldman had just as much trouble with that one, too. Also on Sunday during CNN's State of the Union, Jake Tapper asked Representative Jamie Raskin (D-MD) if, by Biden's own standard, wasn't Biden totally irresponsible with classified information? In true J6 Committee group think propaganda, his only answer was to keep a sense of proportion and to not make the comparison between some misplaced documents and an insurrection. I have no idea what he's trying to sell, but I don't think anyone is buying. On top of this, the very home where these documents have been found, was the home we just found out Hunter Biden was renting from his dad for a year at nearly $50K/month. Does anyone believe that's what the money really was, rent? Seems more like funneling more money to The Big Guy. Even the NYTimes is having to admit Biden knew about Hunter's business dealings. While they try to play the “complicated” narrative, they still cannot get around the fact Biden was having direction interactions with many of Hunter's partners and clients. But, the act of lying for Joe Biden is second nature. Just this past Sunday, he once again lied about his involvement with the Civil Rights movement and did it at the very home where Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was once a pastor. Think about that; on this holiday, in King's honor, Biden lied about how he got started in civil rights. To remind you, this particular lie has been spouting from Biden's lips for years. Before the 2020 election, Jake Tapper and CNN panel had to discuss this lie reported in the NY Times. They also reminded the audience he had to drop of that 1988 election for not just lying, but being caught plagiarizing a speech. Even the CNN panel found themselves laughing at how Biden staffers try to spin the story. We have another installment of Deep Thoughts with VP Kamala Harris. The justified comfort caught the chairman a bit off guard today. O'Dea called the events of Jan. 6 “a black eye for our country,” though he has previously said he doesn't believe Trump deserves blame for the Capitol attack.“I don't think Donald Trump should run again,” O'Dea said Sunday. “I'm going to actively campaign against Donald Trump and make sure that we've got four or five really great Republicans right now — Ron DeSantis, Nikki Haley, Tim Scott. We have a big battle ahead to try to reform this leadership,” said Hanks. “It's got to be a bloodbath.”COLORADO NEWSLINE: Will Colorado legalize psychedelic mushrooms?Ten years after Colorado voters made history by approving the ballot measure that legalized recreational marijuana, this November's Proposition 122 would allow licensed ‘healing centers' and decriminalize personal use of some hallucinogens. The Natural Medicine Health Act would establish a regulated market for psilocybin and psilocyn, the psychoactive compounds found in psychedelic mushrooms. Placed on the 2022 ballot by a citizen initiative, it will become law if a majority of Colorado voters give their approval.The measure would allow licensed “healing centers” to provide access to psilocybin and psilocyn for therapeutic purposes. Top donors to the group include the van Ameringen Foundation, Scotts Miracle-Gro and Dr. Bronner's Magic Soaps.New Approach PAC supported successful mushroom decriminalization measures in Oregon and Washington, D.C., in 2020. If voters approve Proposition 122, Colorado would become the third jurisdiction in the country to legalize psilocybin.Denver voters took a more limited step towards the decriminalization of psychedelic mushrooms in 2019, approving a measure that directed police to make possession of psychedelics the city's ”lowest law-enforcement priority.”Legalization advocates point to a vast body of existing research showing that psychedelics can be effective in treating depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder and other mental health conditions. The federal Food and Drug Administration has designated psilocybin as a “breakthrough therapy” for the treatment of major depressive disorder.Luke Gruber, an initiative backer and a Marine veteran who suffered from PTSD and depression after serving in Afghanistan, says psilocybin therapy “changed his life.”He said, “I can't really describe the experience, but I can describe what it was like after my first treatment with natural medicine. It was like being reminded of what hope felt like.”If passed, Proposition 122 would establish a 15-member Natural Medicine Advisory Board to oversee the regulation of psychedelic substances. The first licenses for regulated providers would be issued beginning in September 2024. Pending recommendations from the advisory board, other substances, including DMT and mescaline, could be added to the program in 2026.I WILL BE VOTING YES. COLORADO NEWSLINE: SHE'S JUST BLOWING SMOKEKirkmeyer repeats false Colorado oil and gas claims in 8th District debate against CaraveoIn a recent debate in the race for Colorado's new 8th Congressional District, right-wing GOP State Sen. Barbara Kirkmeyer took the opportunity to repeat a series of false claims about the oil and gas industry, and the impacts of a 2019 law sponsored by her Democratic opponent, state Rep. Dr. Yadira Caraveo.Kirkmeyer called the package of new health, safety and environmental reforms a “de facto ban on oil and gas. We went from 5,100 permits approved in 2018 down to about, I think, 22 — 22 permits this year, something approximately in that area,” she claimed.So, it's not 22. It's actually 842 new drilling permits that have been approved this year. Nearly 40 times higher than what Kirkmeyer claimed. In total, there are 1,314 active drilling permits held by Colorado oil and gas producers as of last week.She made a similar false claim in March, asserting that only four permits had been issued at that point in the year. The true figure was 125.Colorado's oil production levels have dipped slightly from their 2019 peak, but remain near historic highs. Producers within the state are on pace to pump more than 156 million barrels of crude oil out of Colorado this year. That's higher than every other year prior to 2018, and it's more than five times the volume being pumped in Colorado ten years ago. Drillers have reduced growth plans and capital budgets in large part due to the demands of Wall Street investors, who flooded the industry with cheap credit amid the 2010s fracking boom, but have since sought to prioritize more profitable streams of revenue.Kirkmeyer claimed that SB-181 “killed thousands of jobs” in the 8th District, which encompasses an area in north metro Denver and Weld County that is home to the vast majority of Colorado's oil production. Asked why the same trends were observed in drilling-friendly states like Texas and Wyoming recently, Kirkmeyer said, “I have no idea what other laws, or what other kinds of regulations, or what else was going on in those states.” Kirkmeyer also denied the scientific consensus on fossil fuels and climate change. Dr. Caraveo, the Democratic candidate, is a pediatrician who has seen the impacts of drilling and refinery operations in the lungs of the innocent kids who come into her clinic. The Suncor refinery, one of Colorado's largest sources of air pollution, is located within the new district. Dr. Caraveo said 2019's oil and gas reform bill was moderate, and incorporated industry input. The 8th District, the boundaries of which were drawn last year by Colorado's first-ever Independent Redistricting Commission, is the state's most competitive. According to the commission's analysis, former President Donald Trump would have won the district by 1.7 percentage points in the 2016 election, while Democratic Sen. John Hickenlooper would have carried the district by the same margin in his defeat of former GOP Sen. Cory Gardner in 2020. Nonpartisan elections analysts rate the race as a toss-up.ARIZONA MIRROR:Oath Keepers are planning to watch drop boxes in Arizona, spurred by conspiracy theories. The groups' violent rhetoric has advocates worried, and some local politicians are stirring the pot. The increased attention to ballot drop boxes comes in the wake of the debunked film “2000 Mules” about a completely made up ballot stuffing operation supposedly benefitting Democratic candidates. Now, groups are organizing events to keep an eye on drop boxes in Arizona. One of those groups is connected directly to the Arizona chapter of the Oath Keepers, a known white supremacist group. They're calling their midterm voter intimidation efforts “Operation Drop Box.” On its website the group members describe themselves as “conservative patriots” who say the country has been hijacked global elites, communists, leftists, deep state bureaucrats, and fake news.”Jim Arroyo, the leader of the Arizona Oath Keepers said the group sent emails to everyone in the group's roster, about 1,000 people. In an Oath Keeprs meeting, Arroyo said “For the November election we would like to post people at drop boxes to have eyes on target to be able to notify law enforcement. We have already coordinated with Sheriff Rhodes and he told us that if we see somebody stuffing a ballot box and we get a license plate number, that deputies would make an arrest and there will be a prosecution.” County Sheriff David Rhodes has spoken to the Arizona chapter of the Oath Keepers on two separate occasions. In an August 2021 meeting, he said “I've got to tell you, this is one of my favorite groups. It is great to be with friends” When asked about coordination between the Sheriff, Lions of Liberty and the Oath Keepers. County spokesperson Kristin Greene said “Sheriff Rhodes has zero to do with their effort to watch the drop boxes.”Rhodes also spoke to the group in late September, a meeting which the Sheriff's Office said was to educate the group on what was legal and what was not legal for the group to do. The Yavapai County Sheriff's Office told the group members that as long as they stay 75 feet away from the drop boxes, they are within their legal rights, but any closer and they could be violating the law. The county is also at the center of another effort led by former Graham County Sheriff Richard Mack, who leads the so-called Constitutional Sheriffs Association, an extremist anti-government group.  CSPOA and the Oath Keepers have long had close ties.State Sen. Kelly Townsend, a Republican, called on “vigilantes” to camp out on drop boxes. At a legislative hearing all about indulging wild conspiracy theories, she said, “I have been so pleased to hear about all you vigilantes out there that want to camp out at these drop boxes. We're going to have hidden trail cameras, we are going to have people parked out there watching you and they are going to follow you to your car and get your license plate, so don't try it. Don't try it anymore.” Lake Havasu Republican Sonny Borrelli has also made similar calls while at an election security forum. “We need to be force multipliers,” Borrelli told the crowd in Tempe. “We need to have people camped on unmanned drop boxes and camp on those and keep an eye on them and take down that data, license plates, pictures and so on and so forth.”Concerned voter advocates are advising that .ocal law enforcement may not be the best option for a voter to turn to, if you end up feeling intimidated at the polls - instead suggesting contacting local election officials, the election protection hotline, or federal law enforcement. Voter intimidation is a federal crime, one that is enforced by the FBI and Department of Justice. When asked for comment about the situation with white supremacists camping out at ballot drop boxes, United States Attorney for Arizona Gary Restaino said “Enough with the election deniers and fear-mongers, who only seek to undermine our democratic process. I'm proud to live in a state that endeavors to remove barriers to voting, and that has long believed in vote-by-mail. Working in partnership with our state and local election officials, the Department of Justice will do its very best to ensure that every eligible voter who chooses to vote can do so easily and efficiently, without interference or discrimination.”Most importantly, voters shouldn't let wackos like the Oath Keepers and so-called Constitutional Sheriffs keep you from participating in American democracy. ON THAT NOTE:Arizona's General Election has officially begun, with ballots being sent out across the state to voters who have signed up to receive them by mail, and with polling places opening up for early voting. Voters who have registered for mail-in ballots will begin receiving their ballots soon, and can check the status of their ballot at my.arizona.voteThose who have not yet requested a mail-in ballot have until Oct. 28 to do so. NEVADA CURRENT:Nevada launches opioid task force as fentanyl overdoses increaseThe Nevada Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), Attorney General Aaron Ford and Gov. Steve Sisolak have launched an opioid task force designed to provide technical assistance, guidance and resources to local and state jurisdictions amid the rise of opioid overdoses. The increase in overdoses is associated with fentanyl, which is 50 times more potent than heroin and 100 times more powerful than morphine. Placed on the 2022 ballot by a citizen initiative, it will become law if a majority of Colorado voters give their approval.The measure would allow licensed “healing centers” to provide access to psilocybin and psilocyn for therapeutic purposes. Top donors to the group include the van Ameringen Foundation, Scotts Miracle-Gro and Dr. Bronner's Magic Soaps.New Approach PAC supported successful mushroom decriminalization measures in Oregon and Washington, D.C., in 2020. If voters approve Proposition 122, Colorado would become the third jurisdiction in the country to legalize psilocybin.Denver voters took a more limited step towards the decriminalization of psychedelic mushrooms in 2019, approving a measure that directed police to make possession of psychedelics the city's ”lowest law-enforcement priority.”Legalization advocates point to a vast body of existing research showing that psychedelics can be effective in treating depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder and other mental health conditions. The federal Food and Drug Administration has designated psilocybin as a “breakthrough therapy” for the treatment of major depressive disorder.Luke Gruber, an initiative backer and a Marine veteran who suffered from PTSD and depression after serving in Afghanistan, says psilocybin therapy “changed his life.”He said, “I can't really describe the experience, but I can describe what it was like after my first treatment with natural medicine. It was like being reminded of what hope felt like.”If passed, Proposition 122 would establish a 15-member Natural Medicine Advisory Board to oversee the regulation of psychedelic substances. The first licenses for regulated providers would be issued beginning in September 2024. Pending recommendations from the advisory board, other substances, including DMT and mescaline, could be added to the program in 2026.I WILL BE VOTING YES. COLORADO NEWSLINE: SHE'S JUST BLOWING SMOKEKirkmeyer repeats false Colorado oil and gas claims in 8th District debate against CaraveoIn a recent debate in the race for Colorado's new 8th Congressional District, right-wing GOP State Sen. Barbara Kirkmeyer took the opportunity to repeat a series of false claims about the oil and gas industry, and the impacts of a 2019 law sponsored by her Democratic opponent, state Rep. Dr. Yadira Caraveo.Kirkmeyer called the package of new health, safety and environmental reforms a “de facto ban on oil and gas. We went from 5,100 permits approved in 2018 down to about, I think, 22 — 22 permits this year, something approximately in that area,” she claimed.So, it's not 22. It's actually 842 new drilling permits that have been approved this year. Nearly 40 times higher than what Kirkmeyer claimed. In total, there are 1,314 active drilling permits held by Colorado oil and gas producers as of last week.She made a similar false claim in March, asserting that only four permits had been issued at that point in the year. The true figure was 125.Colorado's oil production levels have dipped slightly from their 2019 peak, but remain near historic highs. Producers within the state are on pace to pump more than 156 million barrels of crude oil out of Colorado this year. That's higher than every other year prior to 2018, and it's more than five times the volume being pumped in Colorado ten years ago. Drillers have reduced growth plans and capital budgets in large part due to the demands of Wall Street investors, who flooded the industry with cheap credit amid the 2010s fracking boom, but have since sought to prioritize more profitable streams of revenue.Kirkmeyer claimed that SB-181 “killed thousands of jobs” in the 8th District, which encompasses an area in north metro Denver and Weld County that is home to the vast majority of Colorado's oil production. Asked why the same trends were observed in drilling-friendly states like Texas and Wyoming recently, Kirkmeyer said, “I have no idea what other laws, or what other kinds of regulations, or what else was going on in those states.” Kirkmeyer also denied the scientific consensus on fossil fuels and climate change. Dr. Caraveo, the Democratic candidate, is a pediatrician who has seen the impacts of drilling and refinery operations in the lungs of the innocent kids who come into her clinic. The Suncor refinery, one of Colorado's largest sources of air pollution, is located within the new district. Dr. Caraveo said 2019's oil and gas reform bill was moderate, and incorporated industry input. The 8th District, the boundaries of which were drawn last year by Colorado's first-ever Independent Redistricting Commission, is the state's most competitive. According to the commission's analysis, former President Donald Trump would have won the district by 1.7 percentage points in the 2016 election, while Democratic Sen. John Hickenlooper would have carried the district by the same margin in his defeat of former GOP Sen. Cory Gardner in 2020. Nonpartisan elections analysts rate the race as a toss-up.ARIZONA MIRROR:Oath Keepers are planning to watch drop boxes in Arizona, spurred by conspiracy theories. The groups' violent rhetoric has advocates worried, and some local politicians are stirring the pot. The increased attention to ballot drop boxes comes in the wake of the debunked film “2000 Mules” about a completely made up ballot stuffing operation supposedly benefitting Democratic candidates. Now, groups are organizing events to keep an eye on drop boxes in Arizona. One of those groups is connected directly to the Arizona chapter of the Oath Keepers, a known white supremacist group. They're calling their midterm voter intimidation efforts “Operation Drop Box.” On its website the group members describe themselves as “conservative patriots” who say the country has been hijacked global elites, communists, leftists, deep state bureaucrats, and fake news.”Jim Arroyo, the leader of the Arizona Oath Keepers said the group sent emails to everyone in the group's roster, about 1,000 people. In an Oath Keeprs meeting, Arroyo said “For the November election we would like to post people at drop boxes to have eyes on target to be able to notify law enforcement. We have already coordinated with Sheriff Rhodes and he told us that if we see somebody stuffing a ballot box and we get a license plate number, that deputies would make an arrest and there will be a prosecution.” County Sheriff David Rhodes has spoken to the Arizona chapter of the Oath Keepers on two separate occasions. In an August 2021 meeting, he said “I've got to tell you, this is one of my favorite groups. It is great to be with friends” When asked about coordination between the Sheriff, Lions of Liberty and the Oath Keepers. County spokesperson Kristin Greene said “Sheriff Rhodes has zero to do with their effort to watch the drop boxes.”Rhodes also spoke to the group in late September, a meeting which the Sheriff's Office said was to educate the group on what was legal and what was not legal for the group to do. The Yavapai County Sheriff's Office told the group members that as long as they stay 75 feet away from the drop boxes, they are within their legal rights, but any closer and they could be violating the law. The county is also at the center of another effort led by former Graham County Sheriff Richard Mack, who leads the so-called Constitutional Sheriffs Association, an extremist anti-government group.  CSPOA and the Oath Keepers have long had close ties.State Sen. Kelly Townsend, a Republican, called on “vigilantes” to camp out on drop boxes. At a legislative hearing all about indulging wild conspiracy theories, she said, “I have been so pleased to hear about all you vigilantes out there that want to camp out at these drop boxes. We're going to have hidden trail cameras, we are going to have people parked out there watching you and they are going to follow you to your car and get your license plate, so don't try it. Don't try it anymore.” Lake Havasu Republican Sonny Borrelli has also made similar calls while at an election security forum. “We need to be force multipliers,” Borrelli told the crowd in Tempe. “We need to have people camped on unmanned drop boxes and camp on those and keep an eye on them and take down that data, license plates, pictures and so on and so forth.”Concerned voter advocates are advising that .ocal law enforcement may not be the best option for a voter to turn to, if you end up feeling intimidated at the polls - instead suggesting contacting local election officials, the election protection hotline, or federal law enforcement. Voter intimidation is a federal crime, one that is enforced by the FBI and Department of Justice. When asked for comment about the situation with white supremacists camping out at ballot drop boxes, United States Attorney for Arizona Gary Restaino said “Enough with the election deniers and fear-mongers, who only seek to undermine our democratic process. I'm proud to live in a state that endeavors to remove barriers to voting, and that has long believed in vote-by-mail. Working in partnership with our state and local election officials, the Department of Justice will do its very best to ensure that every eligible voter who chooses to vote can do so easily and efficiently, without interference or discrimination.”Most importantly, voters shouldn't let wackos like the Oath Keepers and so-called Constitutional Sheriffs keep you from participating in American democracy. ON THAT NOTE:Arizona's General Election has officially begun, with ballots being sent out across the state to voters who have signed up to receive them by mail, and with polling places opening up for early voting. Voters who have registered for mail-in ballots will begin receiving their ballots soon, and can check the status of their ballot at my.arizona.voteThose who have not yet requested a mail-in ballot have until Oct. 28 to do so. NEVADA CURRENT:Nevada launches opioid task force as fentanyl overdoses increaseThe Nevada Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), Attorney General Aaron Ford and Gov. Steve Sisolak have launched an opioid task force designed to provide technical assistance, guidance and resources to local and state jurisdictions amid the rise of opioid overdoses. The increase in overdoses is associated with fentanyl, which is 50 times more potent than heroin and 100 times more powerful than morphine. One symptom of elite panic is the belief that too much information, or the wrong kind of information, will send citizens reeling. In the midst of the Hurricane Katrina crisis in 2005, New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin found time to go on Oprah Winfrey's show and lament “hooligans killing people, raping people” in the Superdome. Public officials and the media credulously repeated rumors about street violence, snipers shooting at helicopters, and hundreds of bodies piled in the Superdome. These all turned out to be wild exaggerations or falsehoods (arguably tinged by racism). But the stories had an impact: Away from the media's cameras, a massive rescue effort—made up of freelance volunteers, Coast Guard helicopters, and other first responders—was underway across the city. But city officials, fearing attacks on the rescuers, frequently delayed these operations. They ordered that precious space in boats and helicopters be reserved for armed escorts.Too often, the need to “avoid panic” serves as a retroactive justification for all manner of official missteps. In late March, as the coronavirus pandemic was climbing toward its crest in New York City, Mayor Bill De Blasio appeared on CNN's State of the Union to defend his record. Host Jake Tapper pressed the mayor on his many statements—as recently as two weeks earlier—urging New Yorkers to “go about their lives.” Tapper asked whether those statements were “at least in part to blame for how the virus has spread across the city.” De Blasio didn't give an inch. “Everybody was working with the information we had,” he explained, “and trying, of course, to avoid panic.” How advising people to avoid bars and Broadway shows would have been tantamount to panic was left unexplained.

Biden was 250 miles away, visiting Ukrainian refugees in bitter cold at Poland's national stadium. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Sunday that Russia's "playbook" for an invasion of Ukraine is moving forward, though he said there still is a chance for diplomacy to avert a war."As we've described it, everything leading up to the actual invasion appears to be taking place," Blinken said on CNN's "State of the Union" on Sunday.Ukraine's defense ministry reported more than 100 ceasefire violations in eastern Ukraine on Saturday and said that shelling continued into Sunday, while Russian troops remain in Belarus to continue military exercises that were supposed to have concluded.Blinken told CNN's Dana Bash he was concerned that the extension of the exercises was another sign that Russia was setting the stage to invade, following "false-flag" operations this week and the accumulation of more than 150,000 Russian forces along Ukraine's border."Now they're justifying the continuation of 'exercises' that they said would end now, the continuation indefinitely of those quote-unquote exercises on the situation in eastern Ukraine -- a situation that they created by continuing to ramp up tensions," Blinken said.Still, Blinken said the US would continue to try to find a last-ditch diplomatic path. As the debate over President Biden's sweeping “build back better” agenda continues in Washington, West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin hasn't been shy about laying out his demands, as Democratic leadership in the House and Senate and the White House bend over backwards to garner his and Arizona Senator Kyrsten Sinema's votes for reconciliation bill that's been moving through Congress. High on Senator Manchin's list: adding so-called work requirements to the newly expanded Child Tax Credit. In a September appearance on CNN's State of the Union, he derided parents who don't work outside the home, asking: “Don't you think, if we're going to help the children, that people should make some effort?”  Asked what he thought of the West Virginia Senator's remarks, Child Tax Credit champion and Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown responded as aptly as he did succinctly, declaring: “I think raising children is work.” Of course, so-called “work requirements”—the policy of using survival benefits as a tool to compel paid work outside the home—is not a new idea. Indeed they were the centerpiece of Donald Trump's agenda to dismantle the safety net for the better part of his one-term presidency.  But the notion of so-called work requirements dates back a lot farther than Trump—and even a lot farther back than Ronald Reagan's racist myth of the welfare queen. Indeed, as a recent report from the Center of the Study of Social Policy documents in painstaking depth, the long and sordid history of work requirements in U.S. income policy has roots that trace back centuries to the slave trade. So given the Senator from West Virginia's continued interest in keeping work requirements alive, instead of turning the page on this kind of policymaking-by-dog-whistle and ensuring that all families have what they need to thrive—we at Off-Kilter thought it might be helpful to take a deep dive into the racist roots of work requirements. While we are told to "trust the science" how much can we really trust, Biden, CDC, and Fauchi?First up, the COVID 'HOSPITALIZATION' STATS ARE WRONGHealth experts consider hospitalizations as the main barometer for measuring where we are in the Covid pandemic. Why this matters: Health professions consider hospitalizations the most vital metric for tracking the risk posed by the disease. Death obviously is an important metric, but hospitalization also tells you how many people suffered major illnesses along with death. So when half of those hospitalizations tracked are not serious illness... You've got a problem.Why are the numbers SO wrong: The Federal government requires hospitals to report every patient who tests positive for Covid. A positive test adds them to the "hospitalizations" pile, with no differentiation between severity. Some of the reasons they are considered hospitalized are:They have mild symptoms but the doctor wants to observe them because they have comorbiditiesSometimes they're at the hospital for un-related illness and happen to test positive for Covid.Then the media gets a hold of these totals and you end up with sensationalized headlines about hospitals being at capacity. And it's no wonder why time after time, the hospitals have to correct the media claims that they're near 100% capacity. Second, up, NEW DOCUMENTS INDICATE FAUCI FUNDED DEADLY RESEARCH THAT HE PREVIOUSLY DENIEDThe debate is over. The U.S., thought Dr. Anthony Fauci, sent millions of your tax dollars to fund deadly gain of function research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology - the same lab where Covid likely originated. The Intercept sued the U.S. government for 900-pages of previously hidden documents that prove it.Before we get into the Intercept article, I want to remind you of this interaction between Senator Rand Paul and Dr. Fauci from July 20 at a Senate hearing:Senator Rand Paul: "Dr. Fauci, knowing that it is a crime to lie to Congress, do you wish to retract your statement of May 11th, where you claim that the NIH never funded 'gain of function' research in Wuhan?"Dr. Fauci: "Senator Paul, I have never lied before the Congress and I do not retract that statement... and Senator Paul, you do not know what you're talking about."Back up: 'Gain of function' is basically when scientists speed up the mutation of a virus in a lab. Through these mutations, a virus "gains new functions" and can become much more deadly.This bombshell report provides deeper insight into how the U.S. funded gain of function research with bat coronaviruses at the Wuhan Institute of Virology and funneled the funding through a U.S.-based company called EcoHealth Alliance. "The trove of documents includes two previously unpublished grant proposals that were funded by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (which Fauci runs), as well as project updates relating to the EcoHealth Alliance's research, which has been scrutinized amid increased interest in the origins of the pandemic."Richard Ebright, a molecular biologist at Rutgers University says these new documents prove that the Fauci grants to EcoHealth "funded gain-of-function research as defined in federal policies" because it specifically sought to make chimeric SARS-based coronaviruses, which they confirmed could infect human cells.Ebright continues: "The documents make it clear that assertions by the NIH Director, Francis Collins, and the NIAID Director, Anthony Fauci, that the NIH did not support gain-of-function research or potential pandemic pathogen enhancement at WIV are untruthful.““This is a roadmap to the high-risk research that could have led to the current pandemic," according to Gary Ruskin, executive director of U.S. Right To Know.Meanwhile but most important is the Biden Admin, the Surgeon general has stated that the US is to 'monitor' whether vaccine exemptions are being used properlyU.S. Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy has advised that the Biden administration will "monitor" to ensure no one abuses COVID-19 vaccine exemptions.President Biden announced a mandate that required any company with at least 100 employees to mandate its workforce. The only way to avoid the mandate is to claim an exemption on either religious or medical grounds. Some critics argue that the exemptions allow for simple abuse, but Murthy insists the administration will ensure that does not happen. "Unfortunately, as a country, we have experience in dealing with exemptions, but we've got to be vigilant there and make sure that people are using them, you know, in the spirit that they're intended and not abusing them or asking for exemptions when they don't apply," Murthy told CNN's "State of the Union." "That's an area that we continue to monitor in the days and weeks ahead."Biden's vaccine mandate has met immediate opposition from Republican governors, who made clear that they plan to oppose the mandate with legal action if necessary after claiming the mandate was "unconstitutional." "The American Dream has turned into a nightmare under President Biden and the radical Democrats," Republican South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster said on Twitter in response to the mandate. "They have declared war against capitalism, thumbed their noses at the Constitution, and empowered our enemies abroad."The new mandate would affect about 80 million Americans, with about 17 million workers at health facilities also required to get vaccinated.There is something more pressing about all of this... WHY DID THE CDC CHANGE THE DEFINITION OF 'VACCINE'?The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently updated its definition for the term "vaccine" on its website. See if you can spot the difference.The old definition: "a product that stimulates a person's immune system to produce immunity to a specific disease, protecting the person from that disease."The new definition: “a preparation that is used to stimulate the body's immune response against diseases."Why would the CDC remove the part of the definition that refers to producing immunity? They claim "the current definition is more transparent" because vaccines never produce 100% immunity. It seems that the old definition doesn't square with their plan to continue to roll out booster shots every 6-8 months. So they had to get rid of the language. Or they could be trying to get ahead of the fact that the vaccines aren't protecting as well against the Delta variant. LISTEN TO KERRE MCIVOR TALK WITH CODY WEDDLE, VENEZUELAN CORRESPONDENT FROM SAN ANTONIO DEL TACHIRAOppositionleader Juan Guaido has called on the international community to consider "all options" to resolve Venezuela's crisis, a dramatic escalation in rhetoric that echoes comments from the Trump administration hinting at potential U.S. military involvement.Guaido's comments late Saturday came after a tumultuous day that saw President Nicolas Maduro's forces fire tear gas and buckshot on activists trying to deliver humanitarian aid in violent clashes that left two people dead and some 300 injured.For weeks, the U.S. and regional allies had been amassing emergency food and medical kits on Venezuela's borders in anticipation of carrying out a "humanitarian avalanche" by land and sea to undermine Maduro's rule.With activists failing to penetrate government blockades and deliver the aid, Guaido announced late Saturday that he would escalate his appeal to the international community — beginning with a meeting Monday in Colombia's capital with U.S. Vice President Mike Pence on the sidelines of an emergency summit of leaders of the so-called Lima Group to discuss Venezuela's crisis.He said he would urge the international community to keep "all options open" in the fight to restore Venezuela's democracy, using identical language to that of President Donald Trump, who in his public statements has repeatedly refused to rule out force and reportedly even secretly pressed aides as early as 2017 about the possibility of a military incursion.Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has also stepped up the belligerent rhetoric, saying on CNN's "State of the Union" on Sunday that Maduro's "days are numbered."A close Guadio ally, Julio Borges, the exiled leader of congress who is Guaido's ambassador to the Lima Group, was even more explicit in urging a military option. "We are going to demand an escalation of diplomatic pressure ... and the use of force against Nicolas Maduro's dictatorship," he said Sunday.It's a prospect that analysts warn risks fracturing a hard-won coalition of Latin American nations who've come together to pressure Maduro's socialist government. Most Latin American governments, even conservative ones like those in neighboring Colombia and Brazil, are on the record opposing a military solution and would face huge dissent should they back any military action led by the U.S., whose interventions in the region during the Cold War remain an open wound."These governments know they would face a huge tide of internal opinion greatly offended by a US-led invasion for historical and political reasons," said Ivan Briscoe, the Latin America director for the Crisis Group, a Belgium-based think tank.At the same time, though polls say Venezuelans overwhelmingly want Maduro to resign, almost an equal number reject the possibility of a foreign invasion to resolve the political impasse.Resting at the foot of the Simon Bolivar bridge as work crews in Colombia began removing debris left by the unrest, Claudia Aguilar said she would support a military invasion but worries it would lead to more bloodshed.The 29-year-old pregnant mother of three said she crossed illegally into Colombia on Sunday to buy a bag of rice and pasta for her family after Maduro ordered a partial closure of the border two days earlier."We're with fear, dear God, of what will happen," she said standing near the dirt trail she took to sneak across the border.
