Establishing your brand is hard to do through channels like Google and Facebook, but Amazon offers an easier opportunity. Durk Price is a 3 decade veteran of ecommerce and digital marketing and the Founder & CEO of eAccountable. Durk reveals how to set your brand up for success on Amazon, what ROAS your should expect from your campaign, and whether you should start on Amazon or on your own website. Takeaways:So much of starting a direct-to-consumer brand online comes down to the brand. Many brands that struggle in other ecommerce channels have found great success when they began to sell on Amazon. It is very time and cost-intensive to build a brand through Google or social media and even once you've made your investment, the traffic will not be very high quality. However, Amazon offers high-quality traffic to brands at a fraction of the cost.High-quality traffic is traffic that converts at a high rate, which depends on your campaign's lifetime. Early on it's good to get a 1:1 ROAS (Return on Ad Spend), while mature campaigns should have 3:1 or 4:1 ROAS. Starting a business on Amazon allows you to go to market faster than through other channels because you don't have to worry about things like the ecommerce platform, shipping, customer service, etc. When you're starting your company, it's better to start on Amazon, but if you do want to have a website, you should have that website point back to Amazon. This way you only need to track inventory for one channel while also getting the other perks of FBA.When you drive external traffic to your Amazon listing or storefront, your listing will receive big benefits including an improved organic rating, lowered cost of paid traffic, and increased ROAS.You need to update your product descriptions on an ongoing basis because not only do consumer trends shift, but the way consumers search for products changes along with how Amazon serves up results.Quote of the Show:“When you've got a Prime badge on everything, it's a lot easier to sell” - Durk PriceLinks:LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/durkprice/Email: durk@eaccountable.comCompany website: https://www.eaccountable.com/Shout Outs:Helium 10Ways to Tune In:Apple Podcast (Leave a Review)iHeart RadioPodchaser (Leave a Review)Amazon MusicAudibleSpotifyGoogle PodcastStitcherYouTubeAmazon Legends is sponsored by Argometrix, the authority on, and leading supplier of, competitive intelligence for online retail. Most people know about optimizing your title, bullets, and A-plus content to include keywords, but today's guest knows how to find hidden keyword fields that can push your listing up the rankings. Nisan Bal is the Head of Amazon Advertising at Seller Interactive and has over a decade of experience in all aspects of E-commerce. Nisan shines a light on the challenges of selling on Amazon internationally, the additional ways to add important keywords to your listing, and how you need to track and use your KPIs from Amazon. Takeaways:Selling through Amazon in different international markets that happen to speak the same language is not as easy as copying and pasting the listing from one market to another. For example, a listing for cookies in the US would need very different keywords than if you were selling the same product in the UK. While both markets are predominantly English-speaking, there are many differences between each market's dialect. Your backend search terms are extremely important for Amazon's algorithm. While the customer will not see these terms, they are still indexed by Amazon and can make a big difference, even if you've already optimized the rest of your listing. To access your backend search terms, start in Seller Central, go to your inventory page, and select Edit Listing. There you will find one field for keywords that allows up to 250 characters per listing. When adding keywords, you don't need to separate each term with commas, just a space is enough. For longtail keywords, you will need to hyphenate the terms. Mercifully, Amazon does not count those spaces against your 250-character limit. If you aren't filling out the 50 characters of space that you have for alt text on each image in your A-plus content, you are missing out on valuable real estate that could be helping your search rankings. You can use a space to separate these keywords as well.At a base level, you should be tracking your Amazon KPIs weekly and analyzing the trends in the data so that you can make informed decisions to grow your business. Quote of the Show:“Analyzing that trend, that's the most important thing. Just looking at it for the last 30 days, you can't make any judgment there unless you know, “Okay, where was I 30 days before that?”” - Nisan BalLinks:LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/nisanbal/Email: nisan@sellerinteractive.comCompany website: https://sellerinteractive.com/Company website: https://linktr.ee/outgiveWays to Tune In:Apple Podcast (Leave a Review)iHeart RadioPodchaser (Leave a Review)Amazon MusicAudibleSpotifyGoogle PodcastYouTubeAmazon Legends is sponsored by Argometrix, the authority on, and leading supplier of, competitive intelligence for online retail. The launch phase of a new product on Amazon is critical for building momentum for your brand! Matt Botha is an expert on Mergers and Acquisitions of Amazon businesses and the Associate Director of M&A at Elevate Brands. Matt discusses how to build your brand's presence both online and in person. In this episode, you'll hear about increasing your BSR using external traffic, using a mailing list for your Amazon brand, and measuring and raising your conversion rates. Takeaways: To build brand presence, some online brands use a physical approach and go to in-person events that they know their customers attend or view.If you are selling on Amazon, you can use your actual website to build out your mailing list which you can then leverage to drive external traffic to your Amazon listings. Your emailing list is a great way to stay in touch with your customers, build your relationship with them, and as you launch more products, increase the average order value. It's more important to have a highly engaged mailing list than a massive mailing list. You need to clean up your mailing list to maintain a high conversion rate by removing the unengaged people on the list. When people are shopping on Amazon, they know what they are looking for and are searching based on specific keywords. Because of this, you need to know what those keywords they are looking for are, especially during the launch of a product. Using paid ads on Amazon at the beginning of a product launch provides the initial momentum that will drive organic traffic to the listing. The more momentum built up at the beginning, the more sustainable the success.Companies that are acquiring Amazon brands are looking for sellers that have built good brands and, very importantly, have built great teams. On today's show, we discuss how to appropriately balance your company's cyber security with your employee experience. Denis O'Shea founded Mobile Mentor in New Zealand in 2004. Since then, the company has helped millions of people unlock the full potential of their technology. In 2017, O'Shea moved to Nashville, Tennessee to launch the company's US business, with a focus on securing the mobile workforce in industries such as healthcare, education, finance and government services. Mobile Mentor is a global leader in the endpoint ecosystem, helping clients to navigate the right balance between security and employee experience. The company was named Microsoft's 2021 Global Partner of the year for Modern Endpoint Management primarily for their work helping Alive Hospice safely treat patients during COVID 19. In addition to being a top Microsoft partner, they are also certified by Apple and Google. Mobile Mentor has recently worked with Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Michigan Medicine, Mayo Clinic and the US Coast Guard. Key Takeaways:How has the pandemic shifted the way employees work and shifted the balance between employer and employee?Increase in employees working from homeIncrease in cybercrime with cyber criminals going after healthcare, government, schools, etc.Global chip shortage which brought about the "bring your own laptops" policiesHiring and onboarding done remotelyThe Great ResignationWhat is the biggest risk of employees using personal devices?Password hygiene. - Employees are typically reckless with passwords, writing them in a notebook or in a note on their phone. We have too many passwords, and we are managing them badly. What is the solution to rampant bad password hygiene?Be password-less. Do away with passwords, and instead use:Biometrics Single sign-onMulti-factorHow can we combat a lack of balance leaning toward companies being too strict with conditional access policies? Allow exceptions by request, when traveling for example.Allow trusted devices already approved.Remote workers and Generation Z employees both bring about a "Shadow IT" - employees using their own devices and apps/tools. How can we combat a lack of balance leaning toward employees being too lax with cyber security?Involve these groups in the decision-making process when choosing collaboration tools. They will pressure-test them and point out weaknesses.Use technology tools to detect what apps/tools are being used.Re-frame "company security" to "privacy". Younger employees care about personal privacy, and are better able to relate that to customer privacy and ultimately company privacy. What do you see being different in 5 years?Quick and efficient onboarding. This will go from a 3-day painful process to a scenario where the employee will be the first to touch the device. They'll have a one-time access code and the device will self-configure, giving access to everything needed, set up properly. Rather than a 3-day process, they will be up and running within an hour.No Passwords. Biometrics used instead.More personal devices, rather than company-provided devices. How do we combat security breaches?Give only the minimum amount of access to do the job. Use time-restricted access when more access is needed temporarily. Create dynamic groups as the privilege set, rather than users. Add users to the group, and remove as needed.Connect with Denis O'Shea:Research data - https://endpointecosystem.comCompany website -

Our first-ever guest, James Heller, joins us for our 100th episode celebration! James, the CEO, and Co-Founder of Wrapify, discusses how our industry can increase revenue by educating marketers on the power of out-of-home advertisement.Wrapify is omnichannel advertising for brands powered by app-enabled mobility and delivery. Their performance-driven ad-tech platform measures the impact of out-of-home impressions and attributes exposure to online, in-app, or foot traffic engagement.Takeaways The increasing amount of digitally native marketers is changing the way media channels are evaluated. These marketers need mix-media modeling, good data visualization, and tracking customers' journey from beginning to end.Out-of-home is a great medium to drive a brand because it is the heartbeat of the neighborhood. Although it is difficult to measure audience impact, we know it's there. Educate marketers on the value of OOH to their brand. If the industry captures a component of wasted digital spending and pipe it into out-of-home then it would increase value in the medium and revenue in the U.S.The recall that is created in the out-of-home space makes the digital more valuable. On this episode of OOH Insider, Mary Perrella, VP of Media and Marketing at Vengo Labs, chats about the role of place-based media within the marketing industry.Takeaways Place-based media is contextual to the environment and audience experience. This is a perfect place to make an emotional connection.Out-of-home is more than billboards. It is any moment when a person is out of their home and experiences an advertisement.Generate creative that specifically connects the message to the context. The relationship improves the response and emotional connection consumers make.Vengo Labs is not an off-the-shelf SaaS solution. They are determined to cater to the needs of media and screen owners by customizing their solutions.Direct and programmatic buying are both valuable. If you just treat people the right way, no matter if they're a fit for you or not. How often those people come around, and you'll see deals five years later that you completely forgot about just coming out of nowhere.”Josh: “Nobody really gives a shit about what you sell. Like, focus on them, focus on their business, how they make money, and then figure out if what you sell is the right fit. And be honest about it.”Josh: “Executives are looking for a perspective. So if you take the time to go experience it yourself, experience their product and bring them back your findings and your learnings and a solution, dude, anyone would get excited about that.”Josh: “As a seller, I evolved, like I went from volume and velocity like product based services. Now it's more of a consultative sale. There's more services we can wrap around this, how do we expand and then all of a sudden, we're playing with bigger companies.”Collin: “It takes a lot of discipline to know, and not just take that path, because I think sellers think you gotta know when you're ready, and you gotta know like if you're built for it? Like not everybody wants that? For sure. And top performing, high performing reps don't make great sales leaders.”Collin: “The problem with a lot of top performers is they think everybody should sound like them. This is how I get the job done. Why can't you get the job done? And why can't you get the job done the way I get the job done? And that is a recipe for disaster rather than managing a team of people.”Learn more about Josh in the link below: LinkedIn - linkedin.com/in/joshwagnerazPodcast - lovesellinghatesales.comWebsites:Personal - joshuadwagner.comCompany - leadmd.comLearn more about Collin in the link below: LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/collin-saleshustle/Also, you can join our community by checking out @salescast.community. Bob Johns, VP Media & Marketing at BOLDSITE Media, talks about the American Dream Mall's network of screens and its ability to create immersive brand experiences.BOLDSITE Media, is a destination media company that creates boundless brand environments. They are motivated to design unparalleled immersive and integrated brand stories.Takeaways Out-of-home has an amazing ability to connect to people throughout their daily lives. The American Dream has 138 displays inside that are synchronized on one network. This allows brands to foster unique, immersive brand experiences across the property. The American Dream is a premiere destination that attracts and influences a variety of audiences across the Tri-state area. The opportunities are endless between the 12 million visitors, screens that face the MetLife Stadium parking lot, and drivers on the New Jersey Turnpike. There is not a specific bucket that American Dream fits into. Depending on the brand it is either destination, playspace, or mall media.Mall media is not what it used to be since the pandemic. Traditional malls have had to redefine themselves into a destination medium.Destination media is defined by the way that audiences have the opportunity to interactive with displays in an environment, such as American Dream, to create a brand experience.LinksLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/bob-johns-2079634/Email: bobjohns@boldsite.comCompany: http://www.boldsite.comWays To Tune InSpotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/30yI5WJKPTmH1ttOT92stjApple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-ooh-insider-show/id1483489943Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/The-OOH-Insider-Show/dp/B08JJT1GC5Audible: https://www.audible.com/pd/The-OOH-Insider-Show-Podcast/B08JJPQ8HFStitcher: https://www.stitcher.com/show/the-ooh-insider-showListen Notes: https://www.listennotes.com/podcasts/the-ooh-insider-show-tim-rowe-GqAoaXnLVlx/iHeart Radio: https://www.iheart.com/podcast/269-the-ooh-insider-show-51761700/Podbay: https://podbay.fm/p/the-ooh-insider-showSupport the show (http://oohswag.com)Powered by OneScreen.ai OneScreen.ai is the first free, public-access directory for all things Out of Home. Starting to sell on Amazon can be very hard, especially if you're selling “dangerous goods” or running three companies at the same time. Dave Terry has done both, finding great success, and now Dave's letting you know how to do it yourself. You'll learn about how to approach the launch of your product, the best practices for FBA, and how to get organic sales while decreasing your ad spend.Takeaways:For products that are considered “dangerous goods” on Amazon, the storage options offered by FBA warehouses have decreased since the start of the Covid pandemic as demand rose for other “hazardous” products like hand sanitizer. The goal of selling on Amazon should be to sell products organically, without having to spend on advertising your products. However, to do this you have to advertise your products to get sales initially which will boost your ranking and your visibility. There is a process to sell “dangerous goods” on Amazon through FBA and a major part of it is maintaining the right level of stock in the FBA warehouse. Try to get sales, stay in stock, and make sure not to send too much stock as Amazon will limit your storage.Don't expect overnight success on Amazon. It takes time to build your presence and credibility as a seller. Find the standard amount of inventory that you need at an FBA warehouse, this could mean having stock for the next 10 week's forecasted sales. Typically, 1/3 will be available to sell, while the other 2/3 go through FBA's 4-6 week intake process.Ahead of peak times, make sure to be in weekly or biweekly communication with manufacturers to make sure things are on schedule and the demand can be met in time.If you have a very well-developed way of doing business, when you start selling on Amazon, you can't expect Amazon to conform to your way of doing things. To be successful, you have to adapt your business to fit Amazon's methods.Quote of the Show:“I can't stress it more than to tell new sellers just to give absolutely amazing customer service” - Dave TerryLinks:Email: Dave@bellechemical.comLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/david-terry-020b5428/Company website: https://www.bellechemical.comCompany website: https://lissecosmetics.com/Company website: https://viddiesbakery.com/Ways to Tune In:Amazon MusicAudibleApple PodcastSpotifyGoogle PodcastStitcherYouTube: https://youtu.be/5zVfAhsBDSM
There are so many factors that go into becoming a successful entrepreneur and it's hard to prioritize and keep track of them. This episode's guest, Jason Langston, has been walking that entrepreneurial journey for a long time and is handing out tips on which of those things you should really pay attention to and invest your time into. You'll learn about reinvigorating a business to find new growth opportunities, how your attitude impacts your business, and the pitfalls to avoid when dealing with suppliers. Takeaways:There are some circumstances where making your business smaller in the short term opens new opportunities for long-term growth. If customers have reached their potential and still serving them could hinder growth, you may need to let them go.Solidify your vision for the business by defining your brands, defining what your value to your customers is, and conveying the benefit of the use of your products.Think about what channels you are selling through right now and see if they are still viable to keep selling on and if there is any room for growth in those channels. If not, you may be better off leaving those channels and focusing more on growing channels.Avoid being single vendor reliant! If only one company can make your product, they can strongarm your company into making decisions that aren't in the company's best interest because they know your company ceases to exist without them. The attitude you and your company has is very important when trying to bringing the right people to your team. If your attitude is positive you are more likely to attract the right people. If you are a product manufacturer product distributor, it's imperative that you have a presence on Amazon. Customers today are very price-conscious and are able to easily compare prices with those on Amazon.Quote of the Show:“I believe that as a manufacturer and as a business, you have to have Amazon. It is essential. They are embedded in the fabric of industry today” - Jason LangstonLinks:LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jason-langston-469a5b15/Email: jasonlangston@gelcoproducts.comCompany website: https://gelcoproducts.com/Ways to Tune In:Amazon Music: https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/092e0e83-44d8-42a3-9efd-f57daad2bbff/amazon-legends-podcastAudible: https://www.audible.com/pd/Podcast/B08JJQKM6VApple Podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/amazon-legends-podcast/id1589750284Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/01NnJ5SHgUFTBDr77HtExu?si=7850ec72879e401eGoogle Podcast: https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9mZWVkcy5idXp6c3Byb3V0LmNvbS8xODM1ODcwLnJzcw?sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiG09G16uH1AhWSrnIEHbUABo0Q9sEGegQIARADStitcher: https://www.stitcher.com/show/amazon-legends-podcastYouTube: https://youtu.be/FAYplrMklNo
Amazon offers some incredible opportunities for sellers new and old, but it's hard to find the right choices and maximize revenue through focusing on the data. It's hard to find someone who's done better on Amazon than Barry Taitz. Barry passes along some incredible insights into using FBA vs FBM, choosing the right products, optimizing ad spend, and so much more. Learn about how Amazon approaches issues with sellers, growing at your own pace, and the process before you can start selling on Amazon. Takeaways:For new sellers, it's important to focus on growing at your own speed by selling your own private label products and building it up slowly. There are many benefits to a ‘farm to table' method wherein, you own everything from the production to delivering to the end-users.It's better to sell your own products and brands than reselling another company's products because you are entirely in control of the decisions on rotation, pricing, etc. If you own the brand, you're actually building something. For those new to e-commerce, it's advantageous to start by creating a store on Amazon instead of creating your own website. By starting on Amazon, sellers are actually able to learn how to do business online. Amazon is better at logistics than you. And that's ok, take advantage of that! Using Amazon FBA removes the problems of creating your own logistics, driving traffic to your website, and providing customer service. When it comes to ad spend, you will spend more in the beginning, but you will reap the rewards later. There will be negative returns in the beginning and you need to accept that. You either need a huge budget or only focus ad spend on a few products.Don't waste your time and money trying to get your listing to #1. Everyone is trying to be #1, but you can actually make much better returns when your listing is between #10-#20. Remember, the #20 listing is still on the first page of results. It's a good practice to use an 80/20 split between FBA and FBM. You need to have your own fulfillment processes for peak times. With high ticket items, it can be better to ship it yourself than to use FBA as it could get lost or delayed.Quote of the Show:“I want to change the world, I want to create the next generation of entrepreneurs the Barry way” - Barry TaitzLinks:LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/barry-taitz-97534225/Email: barry@bluebeatdigital.comCompany website: https://bluebeatdigital.com/Ways to Tune In:Amazon Music: https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/092e0e83-44d8-42a3-9efd-f57daad2bbff/amazon-legends-podcastAudible: https://www.audible.com/pd/Podcast/B08JJQKM6VApple Podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/amazon-legends-podcast/id1589750284Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/01NnJ5SHgUFTBDr77HtExu?si=7850ec72879e401eYouTube: https://youtu.be/KNrRCnYj35Y
