This week on Fabulous Film & Friends,  we're celebrating Halloween by following last episode's duel between Robert Eggers' The Northman and David Lowry's The Green Knight  by a looking at and comparing two low-budget genre creepfests from these two up-and-coming masters of modern cinema:  2015's The Witch starring Anya Taylor-Joy, Ralph Ineson, Kate Dickie, and three unsung masters of terror Harvey Scrimshaw, Ellie Grainger and Lucas Dawson with 2017's A Ghost Story starring Casey Affleck, Rooney Mara and Will Oldham.  My guests this week are series regulars Dr. David Johnson and Roseanne Caputi and a hearty werewolf howl and welcome back to everybody's favorite religious prude Gordon Alex Roberstson . Once again, the synopses to both films are simple: In The Witch, a Puritan family cast out of their colony tries to make it on their own, feebly attempting to grow corn in the New England wilderness while haunted and vexed by a nearby witch.  A Ghost Story, conversely, tells the story of musician killed in a car accident who awakens from death as an old Halloween costume styled ghost in a long sheet with eye holes. As a ghost, the musician stays in his house in a time loop, watching and haunting his girlfriend or wife, it's never specified, and a host of other tenants or home dwellers from the past, the present and into the future.    Thank you for listening. . On this very special 51st episode of Fabulous Film & Friends we're making good on our promise to pit 2022's The Northman written and directed by Robert Eggers and starring Alexander Skarsgard, Nicole Kidman, Claes Bang, Anya Taylor-Joy, Ethan Hawke, Bjork and Willem Dafoe  against 2021's The Green Knight, written and directed by David Lowry and starring Dev Patel, Alicia Vikander, Joel Edgerton, Sean Harris and Ralph Ineson.  My guests this week are series regulars Dr. David Johnson and Roseanne Caputi. Welcome back to you both.  The synopses to both films are simple:  In the Northman Prince Amleth endures a string of  hardships, including posing  as a slave to get revenge against his Uncle Fjølnir who murdered his father, the Raven King Aurvandill and married his mother Gudren. With the help of a Slavic Witch named Olga, Amleth, systematically carries out his revenge plot until he realizes he has a choice to give up a mission of vengeance for love.  In The Green Knight, King Arthur's ne'er do-well nephew Gawain embarks on a quest to find his true self after he answers a Christmas challenge from the mysterious Green Knight. Along the way he encounters robbers, headless ghosts, naked giants a cute, lovable little talking fox and demons, all in service of his self-discovery.    Why are we pitting these two films against each other? Are they similar? Find out!

On this episode of the Artist Collective Radio Show, Mara Lee Miller, singer/songwriter for the band, Bosque Brown, and I dive deep and talk about her crisis of faith, mental health breakdowns, and finally finding the help she needed after a postpartum diagnosis. More about Mara Lee Miller:Mara, the daughter of a public school music teacher and church pianist, grew up in small-town Texas, singing in church and performing alongside her sister. The pleasure of performing with a loved one was at times the only way Mara could bring herself to perform at all. So, when she started her band, Bosque Brown, it was alongside her sister, husband, and her friend Jeremy Buller--the only remaining member. Often plagued by physical and mental health issues, it took a crisis of faith, pregnancy, and a post-partum diagnosis before Mara found the help she needed and began healing from the inside out. During that time, many of her songs were featured in major motion pictures like David Lowry's Pete's Dragon, and in 2018 she released Little Sea, a record named for her daughter. This fall, a renewed and healthier Mara has been performing alongside long-time bandmate and multi-instrumentalist Jeremy Buller, with several shows scheduled for December.Connect with Mara:Websites: http://www.bosquebrown.comInstagram: @bosquebrownBandcamp: https://bosquebrown.bandcamp.com#maraleemiller #bosquebrown*********************More about Artist Collective Radio Show:I'm Shashana Pearson, a writer, actor, sometimes textile artist, and long-time dreamer. THE WAGES OF CINEMA PODCAST IS A PODCAST!!!!! But for real, we're so glad you can join us this week for the hot-as-a-OMG-WE'RE-BUNRING-ALIVE takes on the latest (and greatest?) of DCEU movies... or do we even consider them part of this "Extended" universe or is it just... filmmakers making the stuff they want to? Seems that way. And all the better for us where we now have 100+ million blockbusters featuring the likes of Weasel, TDK(what does it stand for? does it matter?) and of course King Shark, Ratcatcher, Peacemaker and a bunch of characters I'm fairly sure you don't know of.... Ok that's not true, our Guest St... sorry, Matt THE CONQUERER Catania (why not Guest Starro Matt Catania? Hey we can get nice things, too!) Anyway, he's here to dish on where many of these new characters come from in DC lore, and unleashes his wisdom like a.... really cool dude. We also talk for about ten minutes at the start about The Green Knight, the new fantasy epic directed by David Lowry also now in general release. - and spoilers begin at about 24 minutes in so you've been forewarned! SPOILER SHARK IS STILL A SHARK! Ok, we'll stop now.
