How is it possible two avowed true crime junkies like Christopher and Eric haven't heard of a serial killer alleged to have been one of the most prolific in history? Could it have anything to do with the fact that this killer's victims were mostly queer men? In the first of this true crime pairing on Dennis Nilsen, your intrepid hosts brave the grandiosity, pretentiousness and sheer evil of a media-savvy monster who never met a dire situation he couldn't exploit to his own evil ends. Is a childhood trauma to blame for all this madness, or is that part of the story just another manipulative ploy from this endlessly narcissistic menace? On next week's episode, find out how celebrated actor David Tenant brought Nilsen to life in the British television series, DES. Also, having recently celebrated what would have been the 83rd birthday of beloved Premiere Party Person Anne Rice, your hosts have a special announcement about her legacy.
Season 2 of House of the Dragon has wrapped, and Tommy & DL share their opinions on how it ended. They also head to "Conspiracy Corner" and mention two TV series' that are worthy of discussion so that YOU don't have to watch them! And the Main Topic this week is a classic bit of literat.... uh, film. I meant film.***********************Support Podcast Assemble with AmazonIf you buy stuff from Amazon, you can support Podcast Assemble! This episode originally broadcast on December 7, 2023. The original podcast post is here: https://pixelatedgeek.com/2023/12/binary-system-podcast-388-lore-olympus-episode-254-and-255-and-the-doctor-who-60th-anniversary/ Okay, not gonna lie, the latest two episodes of Lore Olympus that the Binary System Podcast team recaps are causing quite a lot of anxiety. Apollo's plot to take over as ruler of Olympus is proving once again that Apollo will hurt anyone in order to get what he wants, and it's stressful to imagine how he's going to try to force Persephone to become his queen. It's probably going to make it that much more satisfying when he gets his comeuppance, but still… Fortunately we follow that up with a recap of the fun, adorable, all-around goodhearted 60th Anniversary Doctor Who Special “The Star Beast”, featuring David Tenant stepping back into the role of the Doctor like he never left, and Catherine Tate with a resolution to an element of the Donna Noble storyline that always bothered us. We get into a big discussion about what we loved, what parts maybe didn't work as well as we would like, trans representation, and how it's possible to make mistakes when being an ally but still learn every day how to be better. (We also miffed The Meep's quote, which we loved. Here's a link to how it actually went, including the Doctor's response, which, if anything, was even better.) This week's outro is a clip from Doctor Talos Answers the Door, by Doctor Turtle. (Found this by doing a keyword search on FreeMusicArchive under “Doctor”, if that wasn't obvious.) Allons-y Olen ollut Doctor Who fani noin 10 vuotta, jolloin näin 50 vuotis spesiaalin, jonka jälkeen aloin katsomaan kaikki jaksot tästä uudesta Doctor Who sarjasta. Arvostelussa kerron hieman mietteitäni tästä spesiaalista ja omasta Doctor Who fanituksesta. Oletko sinä nähnyt tämän? Mitä mieltä? Oletko Doctor Who fani? Kuka on sinun suosikki Tohtori? Entä kumppani?

If you cant tell by the title, we have a review of Marvel's Spider-Man 2! Which is probably one of the best games of the year, and that's a fact. We also have news from Xbox's Partner Showcase, Twitchcon, and Magic the Gathering. Star Citizen assures us its not vaporware, and Doug Bowser plays coy about Nintendo's next. Meanwhile, in Hollywood, the SAG-AFTRA strikes passes 100 days, but progress may be back on the horizon. Two Hollywood legends say goodbye, and Taylor Swift takes over Hollywood again. Also in our continuing series, we have Nick's Top 10 90s Horror Movies!

Merry Christmas everyone and welcome David Tenant. Christopher Ecclestone is out and David Tenant is in... bed for most of the episode. Deadly trees, killer Santas and a Prime Minister ruining the country.Wow and a year since the Queen of England died. Coincidentally, she doesn't give a queens speech this episode because she's about to jump off the roof. Weird that this episode would release on the anniversary of the death of the queen of England. In addition to being a serial killer who very likely killed at least 15 young men and boys around London between 1978 and 1983... Dennis Nilsen was also SO WEIRD. Have you ever pretended to pass out in front of a friend or coworker, hoping they'll try to molest you? Dennis did that. Ever strip down naked while working security and rubbed your genitals on a stuffed gorilla? Dennis also did that. Dennis did SO many weird things, fueled by his intensely specific and peculiar sexual fantasies. We get especially weird with this week's Timesuck! Wet Hot Bad Magic Summer Camp tickets are ON SALE! The Big Goodbye: Chinatown and the Last Years of Hollywood by Sam Wasson tells some stories about one of the most classic eras of Hollywood and the drama around it. Shua is deep into season 2 of the Netflix series Shadow and Bone. He describes it as a ‘fantasy steam-punk', which has a very unique feel. Enjoy Games! Board games have been around way longer than you realize. But are some of those historic games still being played? First we look back at some of the oldest games in human history that are still being played today. Dice has definitely been around the longest, dating all the way back to prehistoric times. But if you want something with an actual board, that would be the Royal Game of Ur, which has been played since 2650 BCE! Backgammon may no longer hold the title of oldest, but it sure has been around for a long time. There's even an annual, world-wide game award from Germany, called the Spiel des Jahres. One game a year has been picked as the best since 1978. There's some great games that we grew up with that may not make it on the Spiel des Jahres list, but they were fun nevertheless. Classic, mainstream games like Monopoly, Trivial Pursuit, Mousetrap, Yahtzee, and more start our board game discussion with some nostalgia. But it's Star Wars month, so we pick some of the Star Wars favorites from the last 46 years. From the original Escape From Death Star game to the heyday of Revenge of the Sith products, these classic games give us so many varieties of game play. Listen in to see if your favorites made the list. Which board games do you Enjoy playing? What Star Wars games would you add to the list? First person that emails me with the subject line, “Fair and square” will get a special mention on the show. Let us know. This time it was Marti's turn to be a guest on the fantastic Culture Swally Podcast where hosts Nicky and Greg chat about the best of Scottish Television & Film and in this episode, we had a true crime crossover as the boys discuss the amazing true crime miniseries DES based on the arrest of Dennis Neilsen starring David Tenant. We also talk about favourite Christmas films and why one lorry driver is banning Costa! It's a long one, but there's plenty of true crime chat involved don't worry! We go off the track a bit and there are lots of laughs, so it's not too far from our normal episodes. Marti absolutely loved every second of it and we can't recommend The Culture Swally podcast enough, we have gone back and binged all the eps! We just know you are going to love this special episode just as much as we loved recording it. We will be back together again in our next episode but we hope you have enjoyed our Scottish collab episodes, we have had so much fun taking part. Follow us on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/mumsmysteriesandmurder/You can also support the pod and buy us a coffee at https://ko-fi.com/mumsmysteriesandmurderAnd we would love it if you could give us a cheeky review & subscribe to make sure you don't miss an episode.

Some things are so obviously meant to be that you wonder why it took so long for them to actually happen. White chocolate on a KitKat Chunky, David Tenant setting foot into the Tardis, abandoning the daily grind of wearing pants and getting Lucy Jordache to appear on the podcast. And do you know what, she doesn't disappoint. In fact there are some lovely little insights into the reality of the day-to-day within Marillion and how she manages to stay sane. Original broadcast date April 22, 2021. The original podcast post is here: https://pixelatedgeek.com/2021/04/binary-system-podcast-263-wtnv-186-the-many-lives-of-frank-chen/ Big news in Night Vale this week! The Secret Police were given one year to provide the life of Frank Chen back to his family, an impossible task that they somehow managed to accomplish way before the deadline! Yes indeed, Frank Chen, good as new, exactly as he was before, no need to look too closely. Or ask questions. Or... You're not buying this, are you? That's okay, neither is the family of Frank Chen... In other news, and wow was there a lot of news on the day we recorded this episode. In one day we got the spectacular trailers for Love, Death, and Robots and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, the reveal that Olivia Coleman is joining the MCU (or as some will say, the MCU is now joining Olivia Colman's universe), David Tenant's birthday, Christoper Eccleston answering fan's questions and being delightfully prickly, and SOMEBODY finally got her first vaccination shot. The outro this week is a clip from Hello Robo by TeknoAxe. The podcast that the Welcome to Night Vale crew recommended is Whatever Happened to Pizza at McDonald's. It looks weird as heck. http://www.pizzaatmcdonalds.com/ Correction: Blockbusters apparently did NOT censor or otherwise edit videos. They just refused to carry movies that didn't fit their "family friendly" atmosphere, thus convincing producers that it would behoove them to provide tepid, watered-down alternate versions of unrated or NC-17 films. Vulture has a great article about this and other shady practices, Guys, Blockbuster Wasn't That Great. https://www.vulture.com/2019/08/guys-blockbuster-wasnt-that-great.html Correction the second: Elizabeth somehow got the idea that the Oscars were this Friday. They're actually on Sunday. They're ALWAYS on a Sunday. Looking for a present for that hard-to-shop-for person? Want to buy them (or yourself) a square foot of a castle in Scotland? Look no further! You can support the restoration of Dunan's castle, legally call yourself Lady or Laird, AND if you use http://www.scottishlaird.co.uk/#_a_2gk to get there, you can support this podcast too! Sarah Phelps joins us on this week's show (39:14-1:01:37) to discuss her new BBC miniseries, A Very British Scandal, which pits Claire Foy against Paul Bettany in a break-up for the ages as the Duchess and Duke of Argyle. Plus we take a trip with David Tenant in Around The World In 80 Days, and find out what Agent Starling got up to after Buffalo Bill (and before eating Ray Liota's brains) in Clarice on Alibi. Plus, James, Beth and Boyd go through some of the shows they're most looking forward to in 2022 and you'll discover why Succession makes Phelpsie want to have a wee.
In a Christmas themed episode, to a degree, it was a pleasure to interview Debbie Isitt. Debbie Isitt is an English film director, directing the highly acclaimed franchise of British Christmas films, ‘Nativity!', starring actors such as Martin Freeman, David Tenant and Alan Carr. We discuss her background in film and theatre, the process of directing and working on the ‘Nativity!' franchise, challenges faced in film and why they're rewarding, favorite aspects, and more. If you enjoyed, you can find out more about ComebaCK at @thecomebackwithck on Instagram.
So here is the thing, or as I like to say "See what had happened was..."I forgot to hit record.... again.... With Carlos gone someone needs to pick up the slack of messing up and that someone is your boy Cal!The fight between David Tenant and John Stamos was actually a pretty big let down if I am being honest, both of the people came less then prepared to do the person justice. Kat thought David was the 9th doctor even though TEN is literally in his name.Tyler shows up 3/4 of the way through the second recording of the episode so.... super late.I'm really going to start posting more things on Tick Tok, we have decided that is where we are going to do shout outs too. New shows, an old favorite returns and a possible strike looms: Fall means we are finally getting some new premieres. Foundation has arrived on Apple TV, the Great British Bake Off returns for more and just in time for the spooky season, Mike Flannagan brings Midnight Mass to the masses. Surprising many Doctor Who fans, it was announced this week that New Who pioneer Russell T. Davies will take over the reigns once again in 2023 after Chibnall & Whittaker. Davies oversaw both 9th and 10th iterations of the Doctor with Christopher Eccleston and David Tenant as well as helped usher in a world wide rabid fandom of new fans. This news could mean we'll see the series return to form in just a few years time - which will also coincide with the show's 60th anniversary. In behind the scenes entertainment news, The IATSE is considering a strike for it's members which could impact the industry just as much (if not more) as the writer's strike we witnessed back in 2007-2008. As much as we love our geeky media - we here at The Blurred Nerds stand with Guild members and believe they should be compensated fairly for their work. Actors bring characters to life - but without those who work behind the scenes - we wouldn't have amazing costumes to fawn over, lighting to set the mood and more. In the second half of the show, A new Nintendo Direct this week teases upcoming additions to both the gaming system as well their online subscription offerings. Also, Animal Crossing players finally has some promising information about new content being released for their islands besides new items. And why Y: The Last Man should be added to your watchlist.
