Jared Herzog is a singer-songwriter originally from the beautiful panhandle of Florida.  Growing up on gospel and worship music, Jared became influenced by the smooth, emotional melodies and joined the choral and ensemble groups in his school and church. In these groups, he competed in the highest levels of state and carried his pursuit of music into his studies at Lee University. Jared began his professional music career by gigging full time in the 30A (panhandle of Florida) area when Covid put a halt to his career in Nashville. It was in Florida that he met industry-leading producers, musicians, and managers, who prompted him to move back to Nashville. After spending some time in the music city, Jared realized just how unique of an area 30A Florida truly is, as it offers a place where he could make a much bigger name for himself while connecting with all the same executives from the Nashville area. Drawing from his time studying the classical guitar at university, Murray combines classical fingerpicking with contemporary techniques to create intricate guitar parts to accompany his warm and unique voice. In December of 2018, Murray released his debut album, ‘Lonely Astronaut’. It is a musical melting pot combining his inspirations, thoughts, emotions and stories from throughout his life. When it comes to covers, Murray has the ability to put his own entertaining spin on any crowd favourite whilst staying true to the original feel of the song. It can be really easy to give up on a passion or a dream. It can be easy to lose hope and settle for less. It can be easy to stop trying when you're feeling hopeless. It can be easy to believe that life won't get any better. But even though it's harder to trust God when your circumstances are bleak, you will find abundance and joy when you trust Him. In today's episode, I share an excerpt from a video called "The Wall" by Jon Jorgenson. One of the many impactful lines from this video states, "If there's one thing we learn from the Scriptures, it's that we can never place a period where God has placed a comma, because when all other options have been worn out, when circumstances couldn't get worse, when everything else has failed, get ready, because THAT is EXACTLY where God shows up." When we look at our life and think that there is a "period" at the end of a dream or a passion, we need to remember that God can put a "comma" in our life to change our direction and perspective. God's power is made perfect in weakness, and where you see no hope, where you feel like there's no light, where you put a period, God puts a comma. He sees a new vision and a new destination. Even when you can't see it, He does. Instead of settling for less in life, pray to God and ask Him for a change in perspective and a change in direction. He created you to live in abundance and use your gifts for a reason. It just doesn’t get much better than this. Marcus Eaton, who David Crosby said is, “… a really brilliant writer. Brilliant musically. Brilliant lyrically. And he just plays guitar like God on a good day." Having borne witness, I say, Amen. Marcus, who composed the score of the recently released, critically acclaimed doc, David Crosby: Remember My Name, and has recorded, toured and written with David, as well as opened for Dylan - that would be Bob, Dave Mathews, Jewel, Train, played with Seal and Flea to name but some––is gifted beyond my description. After seeing him at a stupendous Jeff Young gig, and now hearing and watching him play quite a bit here, he’s quickly become one of my favorite guitarists. The rest of the package, singer/songwriter/artist/human/fashionista is right up there with it. And, he makes one fine cup of joe. Thus, my… frenetic exuberance. Yes, let’s blame that. Ears, eyes, heart, soul, mind blown, in the best possible ways. Marcus shares his story, growing up in a gifted family in Idaho, his father, Steve Eaton, a successful hit maker for The Carpenters and many others, operatic grandparents, and filmmaker brother, AJ Eaton, who when introduced to Crosby, so impressed him, he invited him to chronicle his story. Introduced by a mutual friend and hitting it off immediately, Marcus and David’s work together soon began with Crosby gifting Marcus with a Roy McAllister acoustic guitar, leading to Marcus Eaton signature edition. With a style and sound reminiscent of Ed Sheehan and Sting, Marcus leans in and does an amazing cover of Fragile on his upcoming EP, Invisible Lines, soon to be available in amazingly packaged vinyl. Marcus treats us to a taste of it, opens the show with Better Way, from his Versions of The Truth, his most requested tune, Fiona, Handed Down, which he gifted to the Peregrine Fund, a non-profit which conserves threatened and endangered birds of prey, a passion of his, dating back to his childhood obsession with Falcons, and bits of numerous other musical tastes and treats. His strumming, picking, percussing––astounding. 
There’s talk of his musical obsessions (Victor Wooten for one), touring tales, his love of Italy… Guarnieri guitars, finding an exact locale in Venice in time to finish a painting years ago begun… it’s a show packed with passion, playing, and wonder. Richard Freeman's special guest this week SK Shlomo. Simon Shlomo Kahn, better known as Shlomo or SK Shlomo, is one of the world's most celebrated vocal performers and a pioneer of the art of human beatboxing. Already a prodigious jazz drummer from the age of eight, SK Shlomo made a name for himself in his late teens and early 20s as a world champion beatboxer, collaborating with Björk on the theme song for the opening of the 2004 Athens Olympic Games - which she performed, with Shlomo's vocal instrumentation, to an audience of 3.9 billion people. For the following decade, SK Shlomo's influence on British music was profound - and his establishment of The Vocal Orchestra, the concert series Music Through Unconventional Means and the London Beatbox Academy saw him creating music for theatre, major music festivals, film and digital music resources for education and inclusion programmes. In 2007, SK Shlomo was appointed Artist-In-Residence at London's Southbank Centre, and his wide-ranging collaborations include artists as diverse as Damon Albarn, Ed Sheehan, Lily Allen, Imogen Heap and The Mighty Boost and charities such as Cape Farewell and Medecins Sans Frontier. His award and accolades include Guinness World Records, commendations for his work as a composer and recognition for his advancement of loop station technology - something now regularly used by mainstream artists in live performance. Richard first met SK Shlomo when developing creative learning projects with young people in North London around 11 years ago, and Shlomo had been commissioned to create a huge and inclusive beatbox choir. Branding – as it is taught today – will at best cause people to remember you and have a mild opinion. But unlike yesterday's branding, today's bonding is the beginning of relationship, the essence of loyalty and the foundation of community among human beings. Bonding, when done properly, makes people feel connected to you. It is the little-known secret of marketing to millennials* and their parents. Bonding creates community – surrogate family – connectedness – relationship – belonging. When we talk about “community” in marketing, always remember: We buy what we buy to remind ourselves – and tell the world around us – who we are. “I am irresistible, I say, as I put on my designer fragrance. I am a merchant banker, I say, as I climb out of my BMW. I am a juvenile lout, I say, as I down a glass of extra strong lager. I am handsome, I say, as I don my Levi's jeans.” – John Kay The personality you craft for your brand is essential to the bonding process.The public will give you their time if you offer them entertainment. They will give you their money if they feel connected to you. In the days of the Old West, branding made a cow yours. In today's hyper-communicated society, bonding makes a customer yours. Remember, it's all about identity, a reflection of self. “Nothing is so powerful as an insight into human nature, what compulsions drive a man, what instincts dominate his action, even though his language so often camouflages what really motivates him. For if you know these things about a man you can touch him at the core of his being.” – Bill Bernbach Bill Bernbach obviously understood bonding, as did my hero, John Steinbeck. “Man is the only animal who lives outside of himself, whose drive is in external things – property, houses, money, concepts of power. He lives in his cities and his factories, in his business and job and art. But having projected himself into these external complexities, he is them. His house, his automobiles are a part of him and a large part of him. This is beautifully demonstrated by a thing doctors know – that when a man loses his possessions a very common result is sexual impotence.” – John Steinbeck, The Sea of Cortez Lest you think Steinbeck wasn't speaking of marketing, here's another line from that same 1941 travelogue. “These Indians were far too ignorant to understand the absurdities merchandising can really achieve when it has an enlightened people to work on.” Millennials would have loved John Steinbeck.** He had perception, perspective and a piercing wit. With authenticity, clarity of vision and complete transparency, he spoke the bonding-language of millennials 60 years before they were born. Ed Sheehan wrote Steinbeck's obituary for The San Francisco Examiner and Chronicle: “He was a writer of immense sensitivity in a man-shell of gruffness. The quality that distinguishes his work is an enormous compassion.
