She empowers the high achievers, the go-getters, the big money-makers of the world to lead with soul and find a greater sense of purpose and fulfillment—WITHIN. Nina has spent the last decade investing in her personal growth not because it’s trendy, but because it’s up-leveled her professional confidence and in turn her career in a massive way. Today, she's a top performer at Vevo and their first ever on staff Mindful Business & Sales Coach, empowering her colleagues to lead with soul and amplify their impact. She is devoted to freeing other humans from the confines of the mind—to help them get out of their own way by seeing the self-imposed blocks to success and joy—and then help reconnect with the part of them that will guide them to everything they’ve ever wanted and more: their soul. Nina is on a mission to transform how people function and perform in the workplace. By helping them shed old belief systems and cultural conditioning, they can fully access their gifts and inner wisdom to create careers that light them up. She is a lover of fabulous outfits (mixing prints!), wearing bright lipstick, meditating, drag queens, taking dance breaks, sipping a homemade cocktail in gorgeous stemware, and watching Cottagecore videos. In this week’s edition of Tranquility du Jour, I chat with Mary and Emma of Lady Farmer about their new book The Lady Farmer Guide to Slow Living. Guest Emma graduated from Sewanee: The University of the South with a degree in American Studies and a minor in French. Upon graduating, she worked in outdoor adventure education until moving abroad to teach English in France, then back home to study design & aesthetics with Joy Thigpen. She’s always loved clothes and developing her own style, but it wasn’t until learning of the environmental and humanitarian crisis that is the world’s fashion industry today that she realized she could combine this love with an honest purpose and mission. Lady Farmer was born in this intersection, and has evolved into so much more. Day-to-day, she works on designs, makes connections, and develops content while leaving time to get her hands dirty. Art and poetry keep her inspired, along with all of her Lady Farmer friends from whom she learns things on a daily basis. Mary was born in Kingsport, Tennessee surrounded by the hills of southern Appalachia. Writing and a sense of place have always been an important part of her journey. As she continues to weave the narrative of her own life, the connecting thread is the desire to teach and share the stories and discoveries of each chapter. With two published works of fiction (Angel and All the Pieces) and the kids grown, she and her husband decided to realize a long held dream and made the move to a small farm in Maryland. The homesteading lifestyle has fit her like a pen to paper, as she spends the better part of everyday outside, living and learning close to the rhythms of the natural world. It has taught her that life is better, healthier and happier when we bring heart and passion to the basics. Being intentional about how we feed and clothe ourselves and ultimately how we live is her day-to-day goal. That’s why she has teamed up with Emma to create a community of conscious creators in this exciting new paradigm. Mary is the writer, do-er, teacher, encourager, and idea developer behind Lady Farmer. She brings her homesteading experience and lots of heart to the table, and she’s so happy to join you here. Marianne was a trial attorney for 14 years, was a law professor, had her own companies coaching and training high-performance professionals in New York City, and now does business development training and coaching for attorneys. Marianne loves to teach people how to develop entrepreneurial mindsets which can open up new professional and personal opportunities for anyone who is looking to create new amazing possibilities in their lives. Mariannne's first book, Balance By Design™: A Career Guide & Planner for Women Lawyers With a Life, was published in 2019, and her forthcoming book, Balance by Design (TM): A Career Guide & Planner for Working Women Who Slay All Day will be published in June 2020. Part weekly planner and part playbook, her books contain over 200+ pages of personal and career development strategies and resources, wheels of life, loads of inspirational quotes, personal and professional toolkits, and most importantly, beautifully designed weekly planning pages that will help you keep track of the many roles and jobs you juggle every day. Marianne's website is www.MarianneTalbot.com and you can reach her at hello@MarianneTalbot.com Barbara BITONDO designs knowledge solutions in Washington, DC and is a longtime tranquilista who has been creatively customizing her Tranquility du Jour Daybooks since 2014. Now, when I say customizing, I do not mean sprinkling some extra tranquility here with washi tape, but an actual amped up approach to the self-printing process. Barbara elevates the art of planning calm into a full, rich and meaningful life with her Daybook, to producing a dynamic LIFE BOOK bursting with journal prompts, space for more reflection, art journaling, flower petals, check lists and really, so much more! She curates the TDJ content she likes best, then prints six, two-month, bound journals around Daybook pages rearranged and augmented with specially sequenced excerpts from my other books and emerging material such as the quarterly TDJ Live PDFs, retreat playbooks, and Salon guides. Mentioned in the Podcast First interview with Barbara: Herbalism Tranquility du Jour Daybook TDJ Daybook story Barbara's step-by-step approach: Open all the PDFs on my computer and print the chapters and essays I want for the month. I usually print everything single sided landscape on 8.5*11 paper then stick the pages back into the printer and print lined pages with the coffee stain (2018 planner, lined pages from 2019 planner and dot pages from Year of tranquility on the back side and set aside. Then I print and assemble the monthly planner pages and print those single sided landscape on 8.5*11 paper *Monthly spread, Dreams page from 2014, dreams list page, moon page, also life review page, petal pages, budget pages and flower pages, then I stick these back into the printer and print the lined and dot pages on the back and set aside Then I print the weekly spreads. Even though I live by the lunar calendar and begin each month on the dark moon, and end on the eve of the new moon, I live and work in a culture that goes by theGregorian calendar (solar calendar with 12 months of 28–31 days each) so I print and use both simultaneously. So I print 10 sets of weekly spread that include four lined pages between each week for my weekly meeting notes. This is a bit tricky since I set up the series of pages to print starting with a lined page, the planner spread, then an odd number of lined pages and repeat that print run ten times. I always print ten or twelve flower pages double sided on card stock to use on the front and back and throughout the book to mark time and sections. When all my components are double sided in piles on my work table I assemble the book methodically flipping the pages as if they were bound to make sure every spread opens correctly. Because I am a designer and work with print assembling material like this comes easily. When my book is in order I measure 8.5*8.5 inches. mark the crop marks, stick the stack into large mailing envelope and take it to the print shop where they cut and spiral bind it for me. It takes about 2 hours to print and assemble my books, then another hour to get it to and from the printers. I think I pay about $36 dollars for each book. As a qualified accountant Jess very quickly identified that money management and lodging tax returns was only one very small piece of the puzzle! For women in particular financial empowerment and confidence is something that is widely lacking and this is where Jess’s unique skill set and genius zone come into powerful play! As a certified Money Mastery Coach, Jess powerfully supports her clients across all areas of money including money mindset, manifestation, law of attraction, money management and wealth creation. All areas addressed and nurtured together create an unstoppable financial uprising for women, with significant shifts including ever growing bank accounts but also including enhanced self love and strengthen personal relationships. This is what Jess lives for! Jessica’s philosophy is that it is both all about the money, and simultaneously has nothing to do with the money. It’s all about the freedom and choice that money creates for you, but also very much about the woman that you become in the process of healing your relationship with money. Jess often reflects that you can’t sit on a meditation mat and earn a million dollars but you also can’t out manage a bad mindset. It’s time to shine the light on all areas, and Jess is just the woman to support you to do that! While working for a major television director in Los Angeles, Tracy discovered she had the ability to see through any mess and clearly envision a clutter-free space. Coupled with keen time-management and organizational skills, Tracy soon found more and more people were asking her for help. Before she knew it, dClutterfly was born. Twelve years and thousands of decluttered homes later, Tracy knew it was time to take what she had learned working with her clients and write a book to help others dealing with clutter. She is author of the newly published book Making Space, Clutter-Free: The Last Book on Decluttering You'll Ever Need and is a regularly featured expert in the media, including The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, goop, Home & Family, Real Simple, mindbodygreen, KTLA Morning Show, KCAL9, and more. In addition to her impressive organizing tool belt, Tracy grew up with family members who hoarded and knows firsthand that the effects of living amongst an accumulation of possessions goes far beyond the home’s walls. This personal experience gives her an advantage over most professional organizers as she has a unique understanding of the mindset of the organizationally and spatially-challenged. When she is not dCluttering, Tracy is the proud Co-Executive Director of OneKid OneWorld, a non-profit building strong educational foundations for children in impoverished communities throughout Kenya and Central America. OKOW is providing kids with the basic (yet essential) fundamentals like desks and books, as well as paying teachers’ salaries, building classrooms and even installing solar power technology so students can study at night. OKOW's most recent project #OneGirlOnePad will provide access to reusable feminine hygiene kits to over 4,000 girls in Kenya, allowing them to attend school all year round. Kimberly started her yoga practice in her fourth floor walk up in Washington, DC. in June of 2000. After ten years, she sought out new challenges. Kimberly got her masters degree in social work. What was the number one thing that was holding you back from accepting self love? I would say the one thing holding me back was a lot of self judgement or “shoulds.” Who is one person who has changed your life for the better? My grandmother. She was incredibly optimistic, despite difficulties. What is the best advice you have ever received? “Let it go.” What is a self care habit that you practice regularly? Baths. Especially this time of year. I sprinkle in a little bit of sweet almond oil. Do you have a favorite quote? “Spend the days the way you want to spend your life.” Annie Dillard. Can you share with us a resource or an app that we can use to help our own self care practice grow? Laura Vanderkam, who wrote 168 Hours, has a downloadable spreadsheet to help you examine where your time is going. What book are you reading right now? If the Budda Got Stuck, by Charlotte Kasl What is the one thing that you are most passionate about? Garth Brooks. I’ve been to 13 of his concerts. And pigs. I’m kind of obsessed with pigs. Mercy for Animals with founder Nathan Runkle. We talk growing up on a farm in rural Ohio to starting Mercy for Animals in his teens, why MFA chose farm animals as their focus, and what we can do to help make a difference in the lives of other beings. Raised on a farm in rural Ohio, Nathan has long had a deep connection with farmed animals. After a local farmed animal abuse case involving a piglet slammed headfirst into a concrete floor during an agricultural project at a nearby high school, Nathan founded MFA to give "food" animals a much-needed advocate in his local community. Since founding MFA over a decade ago, Nathan has overseen the organization's growth into a leading international force in the prevention of cruelty to farmed animals and promotion of compassionate food choices and policies. A nationally recognized speaker on animal advocacy, factory farming, and veganism, Nathan has presented at colleges, conferences, and many other forums from coast to coast. Through his work with MFA, Nathan has been an outspoken advocate for animal rights, featured in hundreds of television, radio, and newspaper interviews, including on ABC's World News Tonight, Nightline, and 20/20, CNN, and National Public Radio, and in USA Today, The New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, and the Chicago Tribune. Nathan works closely with MFA's diverse group of members, supporters, and employees to develop and fulfill objectives within the organization's four areas of focus: education, legal advocacy, corporate outreach, and undercover investigations. Nathan has worked alongside elected officials, corporate executives, heads of international organizations, academics, farmers, celebrities, and film producers to pass landmark farmed animal protection legislation, raise public awareness about vegetarianism, and implement animal welfare policy changes. VegNews magazine has recognized both MFA and Nathan for making substantial contributions to the vegetarian movement, naming Nathan one of the "25 Most Fascinating Vegetarians" and one of the country's "Top 20 Activists Under 30 Years Old," and twice naming MFA "Non-Profit of the Year." In 2009, at the age of twenty-five, Nathan became the youngest person ever inducted into the US Animal Rights Hall of Fame. Thank you for being part of Tranquility du Jour! I don't remember how I first discovered your podcast, but I'm sooooooo very glad I did. What I do remember is you were and continue to be my walking companion. At that time I was trying to get back to a daily habit of walking for exercise and you and your guests helped me get there. I loved it! It was so motivating for me. I believe when I started listening you had been recording for at least a year if not more, so it was really fun to start at episode 1 and then proceed from there. I couldn't wait to walk the next day so I could listen to the next episode and it's still that way to this day. Now my favorite thing to do is ride my bike while listening. The longer the episode, the longer the bike ride. So relaxing. Of course, I have to stop and take notes quite often, ha!! I absolutely love your podcast. It is by far my favorite. Thank you so very much for what you do. Through you and your guests I have learned and grown so much in my life in the most positive way. - Cindy, Texas You are my ear buddy on runs. Diane: Hello! Just listened to a few podcasts – love them! Would love to see more about books your reading, your clothing & accessory style and yoga! Thanks for sharing about the The 5 Minute Journal, I have been looking for a way to develop a morning routine. Melanie: Anything that deals with navigating our hectic lives, bringing in beauty and tranquility, not getting overloaded with our insane to-do lists (self-created usually!), living lives that are not always society's idea of what a woman should do (eg I'm in my forties, single, living alone with pets - not planning on having children so I'm outside the "norm" - but I'm really happy!). Figuring out how to be successful while bringing yoga with us - ie you don't have to be a bitch to succeed or wear a power suit and you can still like pink! More ideas on wearing the TranquiliT collection. The creative process - making time to be creative when we have so much we "have" to do, that by the end of the day, all we want is to binge watch something on Netflix. Stay Connected: New?
