If I had to recommend just one audiobook this year, which one would it be? In What's Our Problem?: A Self-Help Book for Societies, Tim Urban tackles the perplexing question of why, despite technological advancements, society seems to lack wisdom. He introduces the concept of the 'Ladder of Thinking,' where high-rung thinking embraces truth and open-mindedness, contrasting with low-rung thinking's rigidity. The book challenges readers to examine their own thought processes and societal norms, offering insights into political extremism, social justice, and the power of individual and collective thinking in shaping our world.Connect with Audiobook Reviews in 5FacebookAudiobook Reviews in Five Minutes websiteGoodreadsCheck us out on Feedspot's Best Canada Non-Fiction Podcasts list!Audio production by The Podcast Distillery Co. Anne talks through this slow cooker caprese chicken and pasta, which only has us putting 4 ingredients in our crock pot before walking away for a few hours. Cook up some pasta when it's almost done and you've got a complete, low effort dinner. The printable recipe is linked above, but if you're putting your grocery list together, here's what you'll need: Inside aisles: 1 6-7 oz jar pesto Meat: 1 lb chicken breasts (2-3 breasts) Produce: 10 oz cherry tomatoes, 1 handful fresh basil (optional finishing garnish) Dairy: 2-4 oz mozzarella (about 2 slices/breast) I also recommend serving this with your favorite pasta, as the cooked tomatoes and pesto make a great sauce. You can use any slow cooker, but I reach for this (affiliate link) one with a temperature probe when cooking chicken breasts so it can switch to warm once they hit 165.

Bitter Girl Bitters Erin explains that her bitters, "...are designed to make cocktails taste amazing," using homegrown ingredients. All her bitters have a fun concept and a fun name. She brought one with coffee flavor today. I like to say that bitters are a bartender's salt and pepper, a concentrated flavoring additive that is meant to enhance a cocktail, to bring out the spirit and the flavors, to make it a little bit tastier. -Erin Hinze For example, they are tasting some whiskey from Barber Lee Spirits, that has a little bit of maple shrub and some of these coffee bitters in it. The name of this Bitter flavor is Morning Wood, as it is based on coffee aged in oak barrels. Barber Lee Spirits Mike Barber of Barber Lee Spirits describes his single malt rye whiskey. It is 100% malted rye, a difficult and rare style for an American whiskey. It is what he started with seven years ago and is still the flagship product, among others. He and his wife have been making wine for the last seven years. His first barrel sold quickly and then he and his partners decided to build the distillery for real. They got a place and a still and they use all their own receipes and do every step themselves. You can enjoy my entire micro-booze empire… I think it's the coolest block in Sonoma County.” -Mike Barber. Dustin Sullivan is opening Easy Rider restaurant in Petaluma, near Barber Lee Spirits. They have been open since Dec. 2021. He is a Californian and his partner and chef is from Virginia and knows Southern cooking. They plan to combine the best of Sonoma County farm production with Southern style recipes. For example, their Caprese salad us made with fried green tomatoes. After the Moscow Mule, an Old Fashioned The second cocktail is an Old Fashioned. Erin says the bitters are the aromatic finish on a cocktail. You need to sip on it to enjoy the aromatics and the combinations. “To me this is Thanksgiving in a glass.” Mike Barber describes the other products. 90% of their production is the two main ones, the rye whiskey and a single malt corn whiskey. But they also make special small batches of all kinds of distilled spirits. They use their custom-built fat bottom pot still. For example, they have a Gravenstein Apple Brandy, Rum made with Piloncillo sugar, they are about to bottle their Grappa and they make an absinthe blanche. Visit our sponsor The Beverage People / Fermenter's Warehouse for everything you would ever need to make beer and all kinds of other fermented foods and drinks, at home. Barber Lee Spirts uses Bitter Girl Bitters in their cocktails and has them for sale at the distillery. Bitter Girl's Morning Wood is the cornerstone of their Manhattan cocktail, which is rye whiskey, sweet vermouth and the bitters. The bitters are non-alcoholic so they can be used...

...The full transcript of this Episode is available via "Luisa's learn Italian Premium" - das komplette Transcript / die Show-Notes zu allen Episoden sind über Luisa's Podcast Premium verfügbar. Greek salad, pasta salad, cucumber avocado salad, garden salad, corn salad, cole slaw, Caesar salad, Caprese salad, macaroni salad… and the list goes on and on. There are an infinite number of salads one can create—not just salads for healthy living. And everyone seems to have a preference for their own unique spin on a salad, whether it is the type or amount of dressing, an opinion on whether or not fruit belongs on a salad, or which cheese should be on top. With such an overwhelming number of choices, how can a customizable salad business appease all of its customers? On today's episode of The Main Course, host Barbara Castiglia speaks with Michelle Bythewood, President, and Julie Davis, VP of Franchise Development, of Salata, to discuss how Salata caters to such a wide customer base, which isn't always those who are interested in "healthy living" type salads, with their wide array of options. No doubt, first impressions are important. 55 percent of first impressions are formed by what we see, 38 percent are shaped by what we hear, and seven percent are formed by the words one says. Salata takes the visual aspect of their customers' first impressions seriously. "The first thing that really resonates with the guest is just seeing that fresh line—everything from the lighting to the angle of the sneeze guard is really thought out from a development standpoint to showcase that food. So just really welcoming you in and guiding you through the experience to understand what to go with," explained Davis.Castiglia, Bythewood, and David also discussed…1. Who their competition is, and how they compare to their competitors2. How the training program helped Bythewood and David help Salata's franchisees3. What Salata hopes to create for guests and what they want their customers to take away from the Salata experienceBythewood talked about the customer base Salata attracts. "We've broken it down internally into three different categories... The first is flavor savors—the people that really come in for true flavors and want to try different, adventurous things with our salad. The second is busy and balanced. So, the folks that are on a time schedule, they're career-oriented, and they need to get in and out pretty quickly, and our line allows them to do that. And then the third set is fit and fabulous. So, the true health conscious. They're coming in, and they want all protein for the day, or they want to eat really light and healthy. So we look at it in those three segments. So, I think you can see that it's kind of something for everyone."Michelle Bythewood is president and chief marketing officer at Salata as well as founder and principal at Field Marketing Focus, LLC. Before working at Salata, Bythewood was VP of Brand Marketing at Cici's Pizza, Senior Director of Field Marketing at Raising Cane's, and Brand VP of Marketing at Cinnabon, among other positions. Learn more about your ad choices. The Brew Crew is taking a break this week and there is no new show, so for the podcast here is a show that was first aired and recorded on Nov. 4, 2021. Erin Hinze from Bitter Girl Bitters and Mike Barber from Barber Lee Spirits distillery in Petaluma join Harry Duke and Herlinda Heras today on Brew Ha Ha. Also, Dustin Sullivan is in, to announce the opening of his second restaurant. Erin was on Brew Ha Ha three and a half years ago, on this episode of May 17, 2018. Mike Barber's wife organizes the Petaluma Holiday Food Fair. There are lots of vendors including Bitter Girl Bitters, The Spice Queen and many others. You can do Christmas shopping at the Petaluma Hotel and have a cocktail too. (The 2021 edition took place on Nov. 23; look for the 2022 edition at their website.) Bitter Girl Bitters Erin explains that her bitters, "...are designed to make cocktails taste amazing," using homegrown ingredients. Barber Lee Spirits The Barber Lee Still Mike Barber of Barber Lee Spirits describes his single malt rye whiskey. Barber Lee Spirts uses Bitter Girl Bitters in their cocktails and has them for sale at the distillery. Bitter Girl's Morning Wood is the cornerstone of their Manhattan cocktail, which is rhe whiskey, sweet vermouth and the bitters. The bitters are non-alcoholic so they can be used for non-alcoholic cocktails or mocktails. Herlinda mentions Sober Choices in Wine Country Instagram page. Erin bartends at Guesthouse, and has three signatures mocktails. One has a grapefruit basil shrub, one with pomegranate syrup and one with a ginger shrub. So what is a shrub? It's not a bush. It's a preservative method now popular among bartenders. Also called a “sipping vinegar” it is made by adding sugar and vinegar. A Maple-Cinnamon shrub, maple syrup, water and cinnamon reduced in a pan,

Taylor Hanson is the middle brother in Hanson, the band he's been performing in with his brothers Isaac and Zac since he was nine years old. So it's not surprising that this Oklahoma boy had a palate changing culinary epiphany while touring in Europe when he was 15. That epiphany revolved around a perfectly ripe, locally grown tomato, and anyone who's ever picked a pink, mealy tomato slice off their burger knows that commercially grown tomatoes leave much to be desired. Host Rachel Belle chats with Dr. Harry Klee, a horticulture professor who has worked for nearly three decades to develop a flavorful, affordable grocery store tomato. And he answers the question: why are supermarket tomatoes so bad?? And the Oklahoma Historical Society joins the show to share the story behind Oklahoma's official state meal.
