From 'The Conversation': Why Sen. Rand Paul feels like GOP ‘whipping boy'

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) is known for being a firebrand when it comes to his conservative, small-government principles. He's also known for being a longtime supporter of President Donald Trump, despite taking issue with some of the president's policies. But Paul takes issue with being what he says is the only Republican willing to stand up to Trump and his latest moves which, according to Senator Paul, fly in the face of GOP principles and campaign promises. Most recently, he was concerned over his Republican colleagues' hesitation to confront Trump about his now-former nominee to lead Office of the Special Counsel, Paul Ingrassia. Ingrassia withdrew from the Senate confirmation process earlier this week after POLITICO's reporting on texts that showed him making racist and antisemitic remarks. “I hear a lot of flack from Republicans and they want me to do it. They say, ‘Oh, well, you're not afraid of the president. You go tell him his nominee can't make it,' says Paul, who chairs the Senate Homeland Security Committee. “I'm just tired of always being the whipping boy.” In this week's episode of The Conversation, Paul joins POLITICO's Dasha Burns — just hours after he was snubbed from a presidential luncheon — to talk about this GOP fear of confronting Trump, support for House colleague Rep. Thomas Massie, the administration's latest foreign policy moves, the Epstein files and a “farmageddon” that may be on the horizon. “If I'm given the choice of President Trump versus Harris or versus Biden, without question, I choose President Trump over and over again,” says Paul. But that doesn't mean I'm going to sit back and just say, ‘Oh, I'm leaving all my beliefs on the doorstep. I'm no longer going to be for free trade. I'm no longer going to be for balanced budgets. I'm no longer going to be opposed to killing people without trials, without naming them, without evidence.' No, I have to remain who I am.” Later in the show, Dasha speaks to epidemiologist and public health professor Katelyn Jetelina, the founder of the Substack “Your Local Epidemiologist." They discuss what it's like being a health communicator in the time of MAHA and why she thinks public health is nearing ‘system collapse.'

Deities are known for their intimate connection with their devotees, and the secret in life was given by one of my godbrothers, who used to live in Govardhan. He lived and passed in Govardhana. His name is Gopīparāṇdhana Prabhu. He had stayed where we were, right next to where we were this morning for breakfast. He lived just down the road from there, in a little house with his wife and child and a couple of cows. He was a great scholar, a linguistic scholar. He helped to translate many of Prabhupāda's books, including the 10th, 11th, and 12th Cantos. Also, he was the great expert who was able to bring the Bṛhat Bhāgavatamṛta to light in a perfect way, praised by the greatest scholar of Gaudiya Vaishnavism at the time in the academic world Joseph T. O'Connell who said, "Nobody else in the world could have done that." That was the great Gopīparāṇdhana Prabhu. And he said once, something that I've always kept with me and that anyone can live by for great success in life, and I would like to tell you.He said, "It's not what you know that counts, it's who you know and what you are." So we learned this lesson from Śrīla Kavirāja Gosvāmī, from Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu, to find the pure devotees and follow in their footsteps. Even if we feel unqualified, even if we are unqualified, we become qualified. Kalpante ye 'nu tān iha—in this world, from whatever position we're in now, even Sūta Gosvāmī says in the Śrīmad Bhāgavatam (SB 1.2.25): bhejire munayo 'thāgre bhagavantam adhokṣajam sattvaṁ viśuddhaṁ kṣemāya kalpante ye 'nu tān iha Which means that previously, all the great saints worshipped the Supreme Personality of Godhead, who is beyond the three modes of material nature. Anyone who follows in their footsteps and tries to emulate what they have done according to their capacity becomes eligible for the same result that they attained. So we come here begging for the mercy of Śrīla Mādhavendra Purī, thinking of how he carried wood in his hands for the Lord. And we can remember that he's considered the most celebrated of all Vaiṣṇavas in our sampradāya, as he set the stage for Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu to come and teach the emotional love for Kṛṣṇa, which had not been taught ever before. ------------------------------------------------------------ To connect with His Grace Vaiśeṣika Dāsa, please visit https://www.fanthespark.com/next-steps/ask-vaisesika-dasa/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Add to your wisdom literature collection: https://iskconsv.com/book-store/ https://www.bbtacademic.com/books/ https://thefourquestionsbook.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Join us live on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FanTheSpark/ Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sound-bhakti/id1132423868 For the latest videos, subscribe https://www.youtube.com/@FanTheSpark For the latest in SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/fan-the-spark ------------------------------------------------------------ #kartikimmersionretreat #pilgrimage #spiritualawakening #soul #spiritualexperience #spiritualpurposeoflife #spiritualgrowthlessons #secretsofspirituality #vaisesikaprabhu #vaisesikadasa #vaisesikaprabhulectures #spirituality #bhaktiyoga #krishna #spiritualpurposeoflife #krishnaspirituality #spiritualusachannel #whybhaktiisimportant #whyspiritualityisimportant #vaisesika #spiritualconnection #thepowerofspiritualstudy #selfrealization #spirituallectures #spiritualstudy #spiritualquestions #spiritualquestionsanswered #trendingspiritualtopics #fanthespark #spiritualpowerofmeditation #spiritualteachersonyoutube #spiritualhabits #spiritualclarity #bhagavadgita #srimadbhagavatam #spiritualbeings #kttvg #keepthetranscendentalvibrationgoing #spiritualpurpose

Today's Headlines: Senator Jeff Merkley just pulled a 22-hour Senate marathon to warn that Trump is “shredding the Constitution” and that the U.S. faces its biggest threat since the Civil War. Over in the GOP, Indiana's Sen. Todd Young wants answers on the administration's Venezuela boat strikes, which have killed 32 people so far—though Trump has already posted the explosions on Truth Social, so technically, Congress has been briefed. Meanwhile, Speaker Mike Johnson still refuses to swear in Arizona's congresswoman-elect Adelita Grijalva, blocking her from becoming the 218th vote to force release of the Epstein files. Arizona's AG is now suing him for disenfranchising 813,000 voters. Trump also announced major sanctions on Russia's oil giants, even as one of Putin's envoys pitched Elon Musk on building a “Putin-Trump Tunnel” linking Alaska and Russia. Trump called the idea “interesting,” which means he's 80% of the way to commissioning a gold plaque for it. On the America First economy beat, the U.S. and big banks are reportedly preparing a second $20 billion bailout for Argentina, this time framed as a “loan” while we import their beef instead of our own. In domestic chaos, Trump is demolishing the White House East Wing, and the Education Department is being gutted, with special ed services being shuffled to other agencies in what's basically a slow-motion abolition of the department itself. And for a cherry on top, Don Jr., Laura Ingraham, and Chamath Palihapitiya are teaming up to launch a $260 million SPAC, though no one knows what it's actually for—probably vibes and nepotism. Craig Collins remains in for Greg Corombos, and he notices a big mafia story arrives, just in time to honor his Italian heritage. Craig and Jim applaud some new Trump administration decisions on Ukraine, lament the fact that Zohran Mamdani looks like a shoo in to be the next mayor of New York City, and marvel at a big sports gambling scandal that led to the arrest of an NBA player and coach. First, Craig and Jim note that while it's been a long time coming, the Trump administration is hitting Russian oil giants Rosneft and Lukoil with new sanctions, cutting off the Russian firms from American banking systems and financial institutions, essentially barring them from operating in U.S. dollars. Trump is finally getting wise to the fact that all of his seemingly good conversations with Vladimir Putin never seem to results in Putin's policies. Next, President Trump doesn't see any way that anyone can beat Zohran Mamdani in the New York City mayor's race, and there's not a lot of evidence to counter the president's conclusion. In a year where a lot has gone right for the GOP, a major frustration is that no argument about Mamdani's extremism on everything from economics to policing to geopolitics has seemed to get traction. Finally, the Portland Trail Blazers face a tough lineup of opponents this year – the Warriors, the Lakers, and the FBI. The Bureau announced that it had arrested Blazers coach Chauncey Billups and Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier as  part of a pair of wide-ranging investigations related to illegal sports betting and rigged poker games backed by the Mafia. Jim and Craig acknowledge that while sports gambling is wildly popular, particularly among young men, the temptations and dangers of widespread legal sports gambling were predictable.Get 20% off your first purchase of classic menswear. [00:02:10] – EU's Climate SuicideKnight exposes how European automakers are forced to buy carbon credits from Chinese EV companies to avoid EU fines, calling it “deindustrialization by design.” He mocks the irony of Western nations paying China—the world's biggest polluter—to “offset” emissions, framing it as proof the climate agenda was never about the environment but global economic control. [00:12:33] – Paris Accord: The Real Industrial KillerKnight revisits the 2015 Paris Climate Accord, blaming it for the West's energy collapse while exempting China and India. He accuses Trump of pretending the treaty was legitimate instead of rejecting it outright, saying this preserved executive overreach and guaranteed continued U.S. compliance with globalist energy restrictions. [00:35:50] – Trump's $230 Million Self-Pay ScandalKnight exposes Trump's plan to reimburse himself $230 million in taxpayer money for legal expenses, calling it proof of his monarchical attitude toward power. He says Trump's behavior shows that presidents now act like kings—raiding the Treasury for personal gain while claiming to fight corruption. [01:29:10] – CIA Lies and Deep State Hypocrisy Knight covers Jim Jordan's perjury referral against former CIA Director John Brennan, noting how the GOP ignored far worse crimes by Gina Haspel and James Clapper. He argues these selective prosecutions are not about restoring the rule of law but enforcing loyalty to Trump. [02:04:15] – Trump's Enemies List and CIA RetributionKnight reveals Trump's “Interagency Weaponization Working Group,” a coalition of federal agencies targeting his personal enemies. He argues this proves Trump's “deep state purge” is really a consolidation of power—a political revenge operation that turns the intelligence apparatus into a presidential hit squad. [02:15:48] – Trump's Lies, War Plans & Venezuela EscalationKnight ridicules Trump's claim to be greater than Washington and Lincoln while pushing CIA operations and airstrikes in Venezuela. He praises Rand Paul for opposing Trump's “summary executions at sea,” calling it a new form of civil asset forfeiture—“confiscation of life without trial.” [02:35:20] – War Crimes, Christian Nationalism & the New InquisitionKnight condemns Christian nationalist figures like Pete Hegseth for glorifying extrajudicial killings as holy wars. He says this betrayal of Christian ethics turns faith into a tool of empire and makes American militarism a form of religious apostasy. [02:40:35] – The Coming War & Trump's MadnessKnight warns that Trump's open use of the CIA in Venezuela marks the next stage of U.S. regime-change wars. He praises Rand Paul's bipartisan resolution (S.J. Res. 90) to block unauthorized military action and calls Trump “the most double-minded man in history,” pretending to be a peacekeeper while preparing for war Follow the show on Kick and watch live every weekday 9:00am EST – 12:00pm EST https://kick.com/davidknightshow Money should have intrinsic value AND transactional privacy: Go to https://davidknight.gold/ for great deals on physical gold/silverFor 10% off Gerald Celente's prescient Trends Journal, go to https://trendsjournal.com/ and enter the code KNIGHTFind out more about the show and where you can watch it at TheDavidKnightShow.com If you would like to support the show and our family please consider subscribing monthly here: SubscribeStar https://www.subscribestar.com/the-david-knight-showOr you can send a donation throughMail: David Knight POB 994 Kodak, TN 37764Zelle: @DavidKnightShow@protonmail.comCash App at: $davidknightshowBTC to: bc1qkuec29hkuye4xse9unh7nptvu3y9qmv24vanh7Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-david-knight-show--2653468/support.

It's Thursday, October 23rd, A.D. 2025. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 140 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com.  I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark European anti-Christian hate crimes are overlooked The Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe released a new report on anti-Christian crimes in Europe. The survey found such crimes are downplayed, under-reported, or politically overlooked. Anti-Christian hate crimes include vandalism, harassment, threats, physical assaults, and even murder.  The report noted, “Religion-related or religion-inspired violence may also stem from the perception of Christianity as a rival, inferior or adversarial faith . . . For example, some forms of violent ‘extremist' rhetoric portray Christians as ‘infidels' and ‘enemies of Islam' who must be subdued.” Converts from Islam to Christianity in Europe, especially women, were particularly at risk of violence or threats from family members.   Messianic Christian ministry seeing Israelis coming to Christ This month is the two-year anniversary of the October 7th attack on Israel by Hamas, the Muslim terrorist organization Since then, Israelis have been turning to God during the ongoing war.  A new study found that the personal religiosity and spirituality of Jewish-Israeli students increased over the last two years.  Christian ministries in particular are seeing an uptick in interest. ONE FOR ISRAEL is a group devoted to bringing the Gospel of Jesus Christ to Israelis. The ministry noted, “We have received a huge number of messages from seekers, exploring faith, and seen many come to faith during the war. We have mailed out hundreds of copies of the New Testament.” In Romans 1:16, the Apostle Paul wrote, “For I am not ashamed of the Gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.” J.D. Vance in Israel: Ceasefire will hold U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance visited Israel on Tuesday. He met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem yesterday. Vance expressed optimism at a press conference that the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas would hold. Listen. VANCE: “A lot of our Israeli friends working together with a lot of Americans to actually mediate this entire ceasefire process, to get some of the critical infrastructure off the ground from the international security force so the reconstruction of Gaza. It's not easy. I never said it was easy, but what I am is optimistic that the ceasefire is going to hold, and that we can actually build a better future in the entire Middle East.” U.S. President Donald Trump has warned that if Hamas violates their agreement, “an end to Hamas will be FAST, FURIOUS, & BRUTAL!” New North Carolina U.S. congressional map could help GOP In the United States, North Carolinian lawmakers approved a new congressional map yesterday. The revised map could help Republicans pick up an additional seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.  President Trump is encouraging GOP-led states to redistrict ahead of the 2026 midterm elections. Texas and Missouri have already redrawn their U.S. House districts.  Barna: Americans don't believe drunkenness, gambling, & Sabbath-breaking are sinful Dr. George Barna, the Christian researcher, released his latest report on the worldview of Americans. The survey asked people about 12 specific behaviors, traditionally considered sinful. The study found a majority of U.S. adults still believe six of the behaviors are sinful. Those include lying or manipulating, abusing God's name, idol worship, sex outside marriage, pornography use, and illegal drug use. Respondents were split on three of the behaviors—abortion, sexual fantasies, and cheating on taxes.  And Americans dismissed the final three behaviors as not sinful—drunkenness, gambling, and Sabbath-breaking. The study identified three increasingly influential groups in American society: the adult portion of Gen Z, atheists and agnostics, and the Asian-American population. Dr. Barna noted, “Together, a majority of those groups approve of lying for personal benefit, sex on demand, abortion, idolatry, and various lifestyle vices.” Proverbs 29:18 says, “Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint; but happy is he who keeps the law.” Iceland lost its mosquito-free status And finally, Iceland just lost its mosquito-free status. Björn Hjaltason, an insect enthusiast, found three mosquitos in his garden last week.  Matthías Alfreðsson, an entomologist at the Icelandic Institute of Natural History, confirmed they were mosquitoes of the species Culiseta annulata.   It's the first time scientists have confirmed mosquito findings in the wild in Iceland. However, it remains to be seen if they can survive the winter there. In January and February, the average temperature is 28 degrees. Hjaltason told The Iceland Monitor the experience was quite exciting, “Yes, it's always fun to discover something new.” Close And that's The Worldview on this Thursday, October 23rd, in the year of our Lord 2025. Follow us on X or subscribe for free by Spotify, Amazon Music, or by iTunes or email to our unique Christian newscast at www.TheWorldview.com.  I'm Adam McManus (Adam@TheWorldview.com). What do Stalin, Trump, and Viktor Orbán have in common? They're all fragile men terrified of truth, artists, and of anyone with a moral compass. In this week's Gaslit Nation, we talk with 91-year-old Peter Hidas, who as a young student helped ignite the 1956 Hungarian Uprising, a movement born of courage and faith in a better world. Peter's story is a testament to what ordinary people can do when they refuse to bow to tyranny. The revolts that shook the Iron Curtain in 1956 laid the groundwork for the movements that would one day bring down the Soviet empire, to the unforgettable soundtrack of Swan Lake played on repeat on Soviet TV by a collapsing regime. Today, a new generation of brave Russians has reclaimed that symbol: the “Swan Lake Collective” is being played by artists on the streets of Russia, creating a rallying cry “Let the swans dance!” for peace, freedom, and the end of Putin's Fox News–style dictatorship. Gaslit Nation is here to remind you that Putin's days are numbered.  This week's show also celebrates the heroes of the No Kings protests, the Gen Z meme pirates toppling corruption crime sprees pretending to be governments, how Trump and Putin might try to save Orban's doomed April 2026 election, and more.  So keep marching. Jessica Tarlov and guest host David Frum of The Atlantic discuss the Democratic Party's predicament — and the value of tacking to the center. Plus: is there a justifiable rationale for the Trump administration's deadly strikes on boats in the Caribbean? And, Maine Senate candidate Graham Platner's insurgent campaign was set back last week by years of past internet comments coming to light. Here are your martinis of the day!GOOD: There are much bigger factors in the outcome of a midterm election cycle beyond fundraising, but... this is a pretty big advantage for the GOP.The Republican National Committee heads into the year before the midterm election with a significantly bigger bank balance than the Democratic National Committee, a reflection of the GOP's dominance in Washington and the minority party's ongoing struggles. The gap is a warning sign for Democrats as some of their donors remain skeptical of the party's direction and of whether there is a viable plan to win again. At one point earlier this year, the DNC reached out to big donors to host a San Francisco-area fundraiser headlined by former Vice President Kamala Harris. Most of the donors rejected the request, according to several people familiar with the conversations.Upon receiving the invitation, one replied with a profanity-laced rejection. Others said they didn't want to give to the party until it produced substantive plans to win elections. Those who declined told the national party they had commitments and couldn't make it work. The DNC ultimately found a donor who hosted the event, but it raised less than organizers had hoped. The latest fundraising totals released this week show the Democrats' weakness. The RNC had receipts of $10.7 million in the most recent month and $86 million in cash reserves as it started October, compared with $10.3 million and about $12 million for the DNC, respectively.BAD: No, the president of the United States cannot order the U.S. Department of Justice to compensate him $230 million for past court cases that were dismissed.CRAZY/HILARIOUS: Maine Democratic Senate candidate Graham Platner says he accidentally got a Nazi tattoo. Meet my friends, Clay Travis and Buck Sexton! If you love Verdict, the Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show might also be in your audio wheelhouse. Politics, news analysis, and some pop culture and comedy thrown in too. Here’s a sample episode recapping four takeaways. Give the guys a listen and then follow and subscribe wherever you get your podcasts. It's All Gonna Be Okay Reflections on the ongoing government shutdown, now in its 21st day, framing it as a result of Democratic obstructionism. Clay and Buck also discuss President Donald Trump's $250 million White House ballroom renovation, joking about Clay’s dancing skills and the broader implications of the renovation. A major segment focuses on the broken ceasefire in Gaza, with Buck emphasizing that Hamas remains unchanged and peace is impossible while its leadership remains intact. The hosts also highlight Judge Jeanine Pirro’s defense of Edward “Big Balls,” a man who intervened in a carjacking incident, portraying him as a patriotic hero. The show then shifts to political media, mocking Karine Jean-Pierre’s book and criticizing the broader trend of Biden administration officials publishing memoirs. Clay and Buck argue that these books reveal a lack of awareness or integrity regarding President Biden’s cognitive decline. A significant portion of Hour 1 centers on the heated New York City mayoral race. Curtis Sliwa refuses to drop out despite pressure, which Clay argues will ensure the election of progressive candidate “Mamdani.” The hosts debate whether Andrew Cuomo would be a better alternative and explore the strategic implications for the Republican Party. They suggest that a Momani victory could benefit national GOP efforts by making far-left politics more visible and unpopular in battleground states. The discussion includes commentary on Bill Ackman, down-ballot Republican candidates, and the broader impact on upstate New York. NYC Mayor's Race New York City mayoral race, where Curtis Sliwa faces mounting pressure to drop out to prevent a victory by far-left candidate Zohran Mamdani. The New York Post’s front-page plea for Sliwa to “just walk away” underscores the urgency felt by conservatives. Buck and Clay debate whether Andrew Cuomo would be a better alternative, despite his controversial record on bail reform and COVID-19 policies. They also discuss the broader political ramifications, suggesting that a Mamdani win could energize Republican campaigns in New Jersey, Virginia, and beyond. Stripper Teachers The fallout from a Chicago elementary school teacher who made a gesture mimicking the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk during a “No Kings” protest. Clay argues that public school teachers should be held to a moral standard and that such behavior warrants termination. This sparks a lively debate with listeners calling in to defend or challenge the idea, including humorous and serious takes on whether teachers should be allowed to moonlight as strippers or work at Hooters. The hosts also revisit the Jimmy Kimmel controversy and the broader issue of free speech versus professional accountability. They emphasize that First Amendment protections do not guarantee immunity from consequences in the workplace, especially when public trust is at stake. This leads into a discussion of COVID-era hypocrisy, including the absurd restrictions placed on athletes like Kyrie Irving and the shifting public narrative around vaccine mandates. ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith is praised for acknowledging that Kyrie was right to resist the COVID shot, a stance that was once widely condemned. Dishonest Democrats Trump’s East Wing renovation, including a ballroom project and a humorous historical anecdote about JFK’s infamous White House pool parties. The hosts use this to critique the media’s long-standing romanticization of Democratic figures like JFK and FDR, highlighting how past administrations manipulated public perception with the help of a compliant press. The conversation shifts to Trump’s speech on the shutdown, where he praises OMB Director Russ Vought—nicknamed “Darth Vader”—for cutting Democrat priorities and wasteful spending. Clay and Buck argue that the shutdown has allowed the administration to eliminate unnecessary programs, particularly in blue states, and that Democrats are struggling to justify their resistance. They mock Chuck Schumer’s attempt to frame the shutdown as a Republican failure, labeling it the “Schumer Shutdown” and pointing out the hypocrisy of Democrats who once promised Obamacare would lower healthcare costs.
