The conversation took place just hours before the State Ethics Commission rejected Carr's complaint based on the fact there was not enough cause to investigate. Then, strategists Brian Robinson, Tharon Johnson and host Lisa Rayam sort through the importance of the "very sleepy" Public Service Commission Democratic runoff race that was settled last week and what it means for Georgia in 2026.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Tristan Harris, Co-Founder of the Center for Humane Technology, joins the Rundown to discuss the race between the U.S. and China, how advancing AI models could impact American workers, and why he believes the industry must consider the potential dangers of this technology as it rapidly advances. As the 2026 Midterm Elections inch closer, Republicans hope to keep their slim majority in Congress. Today's Headlines: Israel launched missile strikes on Syria's military HQ in Damascus, potentially destabilizing the new Syrian government amid talks to normalize relations. Despite the Trump administration's request to hold back, Israel is sending more troops to the border, citing threats to the Druze community. Meanwhile, Trump hosted Bahrain's crown prince, who pledged $17 billion in U.S. investments—though details were vague, aside from a symbolic model airplane. Trump also denied plans to fire Fed Chair Jerome Powell, despite telling Republicans otherwise, and floated the Fed's over-budget HQ renovations as a possible excuse. Separately, the administration fired federal prosecutor Maurene Comey—daughter of James Comey—who had handled the Epstein, Maxwell, and Diddy cases, offering no clear reason. Trump mocked his own supporters who believe Epstein conspiracy theories, calling them “weaklings,” while still refusing to release promised files. And in two more Trump-world twists: DHS deported five migrants to Eswatini, an African country none of them were from, and federal agents arrested nine anti-ICE protesters in Spokane. Lastly, $100 million worth of Trump memecoins are unlocking today, padding the president's net worth. Crypto Week got off to a rocky start in Washington as internal GOP conflict—driven by fierce opposition to central bank digital currencies (CBDCs)—blocked a key procedural vote. NLW breaks down how the House Freedom Caucus derailed the crypto agenda over concerns about the Genius Act and its perceived lack of anti-CBDC protections. We explore what this means for the future of crypto legislation, Trump's response, and whether the bills can still pass. Plus, NLW unpacks Bitwise CIO Matt Hougan's case for why clear crypto rules could reduce risk—and why inflation data might complicate the Fed's next move. Enjoying this content? From the minute Donald Trump came down the golden escalator, the Republican establishment has hated his guts. In the 2016 primary, the brash New York billionaire was treated by mainstream GOP leaders and commentators as a joke responsible for degrading the political process. As the real estate tycoon gained momentum, establishment figures had two choices: Declare yourself "never Trump" or pretend to have seen the light. Many fled to organizations like the Bulwark or the Lincoln Project, but others stayed around waiting for their moment to recapture the Republican Party from the MAGA populists. Now that Trump has come to define the GOP, the establishment figures who loathed him from the beginning have a new strategy. If you can't beat MAGA, co-opt the movement. Trump praised AG Pam Bondi's handling of the Epstein files while denying any link to the case, but new metadata shows nearly 3 minutes are missing from recently released prison footage. A lawyer for Epstein's victims claimed there's far more unreleased evidence, including thousands of hours of video. A federal grand jury indicted Vance Boelter for the politically motivated killing of former Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman. Two people died after record-setting flash floods hit NYC and New Jersey, where over two inches of rain fell in one hour. Join Jim and Greg for Wednesday's 3 Martini Lunch as they examine Major League Baseball's return to Atlanta for the All-Star Game four years after Democrats pressured the league to pull the event over Georgia's election integrity law. They also dig into the ridiculously slow wildfire recovery efforts in Los Angeles County and break down what could be a wild U.S. Senate race in Texas next year.First, they're glad to see the all-star game back in Georgia, where it was originally scheduled in 2021 before Commissioner Rob Manfred moved it under political pressure. Democrats claimed Georgia's election law was “Jim Crow 2.0,” but two election cycles later, record turnout disproves those claims. Jim and Greg ask whether Manfred, the media, or top Democrats will ever acknowledge how wrong they were, or apologize to Gov. Brian Kemp for likening him to segregationists and the confederacy?Next, they fume as little more than a hundred building permits have been issued in Los Angeles County in the six months since the devastating wildfires. Jim says this is a perfect example of how the blue state, big government approach to problems grinds progress to a halt and how Mayor Karen Bass and Gov. Gavin Newsom have failed. Greg offers insights on why the media won't criticize Newsom and Bass over this. Finally, they look ahead to the 2026 Texas U.S. Senate race, where new polling suggests Rep. Jasmine Crockett could dominate the Democratic primary if she runs. The GOP primary has plenty of its own drama as Sen. John Cornyn and Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton battle for the nomination. Many in the MAGA base are disappointed in Cornyn but Paxton brings his own baggage, including a very public divorce that was just announced. Please visit our great sponsors:Stop putting off those doctors' appointments and go to https://zocdoc.com/3ML to find and instantly book a top rated doctor today.  If your business can't adapt in real-time, you're in a world of hurt.  Get the free e-book “Navigating Global Trade: 3 Insights for Leaders” from NetSuite by Oracle.  Download today at https://NetSuite.com/MARTINI No missed calls, no missed customers with OpenPhone. After the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade three years ago, the question of abortion's legality and availability returned to the states. As of now, abortion remains broadly legal in more than 30 states and Washington, D.C. In some, like Kansas, Missouri and Montana, abortion is still legal largely because of voters. But while Trump spent a lot of time on the campaign trail trying to avoid the topic of abortion, his new tax and spending law proves that the GOP has stayed laser focused on restricting the rights of everyday Americans. It contains a provision that prevents health care nonprofits like Planned Parenthood, the nation's largest abortion care provider, from receiving Medicaid reimbursements for one year for ANY services – even those not related to abortion. Mary Ziegler, a professor at UC Davis School of Law who focuses on the history and politics of reproduction, healthcare and conservatism, explains how the new law could limit your ability to access health care and threaten Planned Parenthood. And in headlines: Trump announced the U.S. will send Patriot missiles to Ukraine, a bunch of states sued the Trump administration for withholding money for after-school care and English language programs, and former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced he'll stay in the race to be New York City's next mayor.Show Notes:Check out Mary's work – workstatecourtreport.org/about/mary-zieglerCall Congress – 202-224-3121Subscribe to the What A Day Newsletter – https://tinyurl.com/3kk4nyz8What A Day – YouTube – https://www.youtube.com/@whatadaypodcastFollow us on Instagram – https://www.instagram.com/crookedmedia/For a transcript of this episode, please visit crooked.com/whataday
