Dr. Deb Butler utilizes a blend of brain science, nutrition, physiology, life coaching and life lessons, teaching REAL weight loss — lasting weight loss — starts from the inside out. Inside your BRAIN.  At 50 years old, when she started her latest round of dieting at Weight Watchers (so she could lose the same 30 pounds for the 100th time), she had one big NEW problem... the weight wasn’t coming off like it used to. She was depressed and not sleeping. Her doctor said, “Welcome to menopause.” She KNEW there had to be a better way. Dr. Deb studied with Martha Beck and then with Brooke Castillo of the Life Coach School and became a certified Life Coach and Master Certified Life and Weight Coach. This not only helped with her weight issues but also her life issues. All of this while going through menopause. She now uses these tools in her own program based on her own experience. She has stated menopause was the catalyst to not only stop the crazy dieting but also to connect her to her passion for working with people’s minds. This was what she was meant to do. Thanks to menopause she no longer diets and she is passionately coaching women through menopause and beyond.   Find Dr. Deb Butler Website: www.drdebbutler.com Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/drdebbutler/ Podcast: Thinner Peace in Menopause and Beyond   Show Sponsored by:  Four Sigmatic - http://www.foursigmatic.com Use code: DIYS to save 10% on your order   Outdoorist - https://www.foodforoutdoorists.com/discount/DIYS Use Code: DIYS to save 10% on your order Keto Kookie - http://ketokookie.com?aff=156 Use Code: DIYS to save 10% on your order   Mistobox Coffee Club - http://mbox.coffee/Y9FA Use Code: DIYS to save $10 on your subscription   Full Shownotes:  http://www.dirtinyourskirt.com Join the Facebook Group:  http://www.dirtinyourskirt.com/tribe Support the Show: http://www.dirtinyourskirt.com/support

Tod Brilliant had a vision while gardening. That vision was of a nicer world. So he set out to create The Super Nice Club, with one vision to make the world nicer. At least 10% nicer. In his own words: "In short, I give a damn. About the world, its future, and my hopefully achievable goal of giving more from it than I take. To do this requires constant, never-ending learning, unlearning and relearning, all of which means that I often find myself taking hypocritical positions that contradict what I thought I knew. I work as a Creative Director and writer, live in California's wine country with a truly wonderful lemon tree, and work daily at spreading the simple premise of the Super Nice Club (be a little nicer)." Tod joins the podcast this week to talk about creating the Super Nice Club, what it means to be Super Nice, and how we all can be a little nicer to one another, possibly changing the world in the process. Sounds like a lofty goal, but listen in to find out how the Super Nice Club is a grassroots organization making a difference in communities all over the United States and beyond.   Find Tod and the Super Nice Club Website: http://www.superniceclub.com Facebook Page: http://www.facebook.com/superniceclub Instagram: http://www.instagram.com/superniceclub   Show Sponsored by Health IQ Dirt in Your Skirt is sponsored by Health IQ, an insurance company that helps health-conscious people like runners, cyclists, weightlifters, and vegetarians get lower rates on their health insurance. Adriane Wilson was born in Youngstown, Ohio in 1980 to Rick and Rae Blewitt. She has one sister, Samantha, who is two years older than her. Adriane followed her sister around and participated in all the sports she tried; golf, softball, and track and field. She lost her Dad right before my senior year of High School so life was a little uncertain as she matured into adulthood. However, she found her passion for track and field when she went to college at Ashland University and majored in Physical Education and Health. Her college coach was 4X Olympian, Jud Logan and he guided me to a life of dedication and perseverance. His daily lessons of excellence helped me achieve athletic success and victory over the biggest challenge of my life. She was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma at the age of 23 in the peak of her athletic career. Her dream of making the US Olympic Team in 2004 was shattered. With the support of my family, coach, teammates, and the community she was able to compete and finish 5th in the shot put at the 2004 US Olympic Trials a couple months after chemotherapy. She continued training for the '08 and '12 US Olympic Trials but never quite got back to the top. In the meantime, she began competing in the Scottish Highland Games for fun. This 'fun' turned into an amazing experience of traveling the world wearing a kilt, throwing stones and flipping trees, and earning World Champion titles along the way. Now retired from competing in the shot put, she trains for the Highland Games and works as a personal trainer in two gyms in Columbia, South Carolina. Her passion has shifted towards coaching. For the last two year, she has been contracted to coach US soldiers who are wounded, ill, or injured in the shot put and discus for the Warrior Games and Invictus Games.   Show Sponsored by Health IQ Dirt in Your Skirt is sponsored by Health IQ, an insurance company that helps health-conscious people like runners, cyclists, weightlifters, and vegetarians get lower rates on their health insurance. Sister Kate came to California after surviving a financially devastating divorce, and as a single mother of three children, found it impractical to continue her chosen career, as the amount of travel would have meant the children raised themselves. Instead, she looked to California’s most new and most interesting de-regulating market: the cannabis industry. Sister Kate founded a non-profit cannabis collective in the Fall of 2009 and opened for business in 2010 (Caregrowers). After three years of serving local terminal patients, after developing teas and tinctures for the express reason of avoiding having the sick and dying risk torching themselves with fire and pipes, she decided to close that business and focused on developing a non-smokable product line that would reach more people. During the Harvest Moon of 2014, she developed her first line of products for the Sisters of the Valley. In January of 2015, she launched the business and the Sisters support themselves through the growing business of making and distributing CBD products. Sister Kate has been called the "Weed Nun", "Cannabis Nun", and she and her order has been featured globally for their growing efforts and mission. In light of CBD taking taken off the WADA banned list as of January 1, 2018, and at the same time current political and cultural movements on both ends, it seemed Sister Kate would be an interesting guest to talk about what CBD is and what it isn't. Heather Shannon has followed a meandering and adventurous path to get to where she could serve as a charge nurse of a 28 bed ER in a mobile field hospital as part of a federal disaster medical assistance team in Puerto Rico after hurricanes Irma and Maria. She started her journey as an officer in the US Army and then was recruited into corporate America as a logistics supervisor. Neither spoke to her true calling so after a master’s degree in organizational leadership; she spent seven years following her passion traveling the Western Hemisphere working as a mountain guide, outdoor educator, wilderness medicine instructor, and ski patroller all the while living out of a pickup truck. Things came together during this time, and while on the side of a mountain doing CPR, she knew nursing was her path. She got her RN license, paramedic license, a master’s degree in critical care/trauma nursing and cut her teeth in the trauma surgical ICU at San Francisco General Hospital. Fast forward 10 years and now she works full time in Northern California as a flight nurse on a helicopter.  Heather also trains for ultra-endurance races, running the trails with her dogs or doing yard work on her property in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains. Her recent noteworthy races include Survival Run Canada, finishes at Broken Arrow Skyrace 52K, TPK2, and a podium finish (first place woman) at TPK Endurance in 2016.   Find Heather Facebook Page:  Heather M. Kristin Saad is one of those athletes who found obstacle racing by "accident". She has a long athletic history, including running Division 1 for Miami University. After college, she became competitive in triathlons while working full-time in medical and pharmaceutical sales. In 2010, she met my husband and 18 months later we were married. Just settling in married life a month after their wedding she found out she was pregnant. With twins! As she says, "I guess you could say I tend to do things quickly, competitively ...maybe even aggressively." Twin pregnancy threw her body and mind for a loop. She spent over two months on bed rest, and another 3 months after recovering and sleep deprived before she took a step running! Her body had changed a lot, and she soon after found a trainer to help strengthen some weaknesses in her hamstrings. This is where she was sneakily introduced to OCR. Prior to having kids, she spent all my time running, swimming or biking, with very little time in the weight room. Looking back, it's probably why she suffered almost every "running" injury known to man. Her trainer suggested she do the local Chicago Spartan Race. He said she would do well. Saad looked at the website and said "no way I would be running through mud and carrying a bucket. And then I signed up." She loved competition too much and it had been way too long since she had raced. Her first Spartan Race "kicked my ass." 125 burpees later she finished 3rd and was hooked. Last year (2016) was her first season. Her 3rd race ever was the NBC Spartan Race Montana Sprint where she finished 5th place and spent whole race with a cameraman yelling "what's your name?" Saad joins the podcast this week to talk about her current journey in life balancing twins, charity work, a family, and competing at a professional level. This one is unique as while we all might not be professional athletes finding the time to fit in everything in a day is a universal among so many women, especially mothers! Excited about the results, I convinced my friend Victor, founder of Male Standard, to give it a shot. Victor: I started Keto, gave up coffee, and eventually found myself with more energy than before. We both loved that we can grab a protein style cheeseburger with mayo and feel proud. One thing was missing, however: DESSERT, SNACKS, SWEETS. We had sweet cravings and missed snacks we could just grab out of the pantry. A great keto centered episode.

Adelaide Goodeve joins the podcast this week to talk about overcoming her Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/ME for 4 years as well as other other chronic conditions which forced her to withdraw from University College London.  She found a Neuro-linguistic program and in three days she was completely recovered. She spent the next four years figuring out what she wanted to do in life. This included going back to King's College London and then quitting because she was so unhappy. Since that time she has traveled/adventured a lot - all over the world and 90% on her own, so I loved this and wanted to pursue this passion.  She talks about her show Lilly Wild and becoming a masters qualified  Neuro-linguistic programming, coaching, physiology and hypnosis and about to create a business as a Transformational Coach and Brain Trainer.   Show Sponsored by:  Four Sigmatic - http://www.foursigmatic.com Use code: DIYS to save 10% on your order   Keto Kookie - http://ketokookie.com Use Code: DIYS to save 10% on your order   Mistobox Coffee Club - http://mbox.coffee/Y9FA Use Code: DIYS to save $10 on your subscription   Full Shownotes:  http://www.dirtinyourskirt.com Join the Facebook Group:  http://www.dirtinyourskirt.com/tribe Support the Show: http://www.dirtinyourskirt.com/support

RESERVE YOUR TICKETS TODAY! KETOFEST.COM NOTICE OF DISCLOSURE: Paid sponsorship - Is there concern about very high levels of bile acid from a high-fat ketogenic diet leading to an increased cancer risk? Hi Jimmy and Adam, I was listening to Dr. Rhonda Patrick on Joe Rogan’s podcast where she mentioned that bile acid, namely, deoxycholic acid, is necessary to emulsify fat for absorption in the intestine and that a high consumption of fat – over 60% of calories - on a regular basis means the body is subject to higher levels of this acid. She stated outright that deoxycholic acid in higher than usual quantities causes damage to the DNA, even going so far as describing it as carcinogenic. Dr. Patrick noted that a ketogenic diet will ultimately result in the failure of the enzymes whose function is to repair DNA and thus will put the person at greater risk of cancer. I am a Type 2 diabetic and have maintained a ketogenic diet for the past year. I was persuaded to adopt this diet by reading Keto Clarity and am regularly in a state of nutritional ketosis. My last HbA1c was 5.2% and my fasting insulin level was 4. I can’t imagine adopting some other approach despite the concerns about the higher levels of deoxycholic acid required to emulsify the fat. But is Dr. Patrick correct in her assessment of this cancer risk with keto? Thanks for your help! Rob from Australia STUDY: Rethinking nutrition labelling: Food is not just the sum of its nutrients 1. How do you handle dealing with hypoglycemic episode when you go on a ketogenic diet? Does adding in carbs resolve the issue? Hi Jimmy and the Doc! Thanks for a great podcast! I really enjoy the information, and particularly when The Doc geeks out on us. My question for you guys is about hypoglycemia. If a person starting keto experiences a hypoglycemic episode, what’s the best way to deal with it? I can do 2-3 days of a keto diet but then on the 3rd or 4th morning I wake up with low blood sugar levels and experience nausea, feeling shaky, unfocused, and sometimes seeing brown spots. My blood glucose dips into the 40s and resolves after eating an apple, or some raisins, or some sweet potato. But then I feel like crap for the whole day. I don’t get this reaction when I simply eat lower carb with some sweet potatoes or fruit during the day. But I really want to experience all the full benefits of being ketogenic. I know I can't possibly be the only one who struggles with this. Thanks and keep up the good work! Marie KEY QUOTE: “If you make a change in your diet that goes against the conventional wisdom of the medical community and it gets results, they can't help but pay attention to what you're doing .”  – Jimmy Moore 2. What is inflammation and why is it the evil bogeyman in our health? How exactly does a ketogenic diet lower inflammation? Hey guys, The keto community tends to throw around the topic of inflammation A LOT without much explanation about what it is. I think I know what it means, but I'm not 100% sure and I would venture to guess that most people don't. Can you address this on the podcast and how exactly a ketogenic diet helps lower it? Thanks for your help, Rob HIGH-FAT LOW-CARB, PERFECT MACROS NOTICE OF DISCLOSURE: Paid sponsorship 3. Does consuming fermented dairy like cultured butter cause a rise in insulin to cause hunger? And will eating this kick me out of ketosis? Hi Jimmy and the Doc, I love your show! Although I’ve been at a healthy weight all my life, I’ve decided to follow a ketogenic diet to have a more positive relationship with food and to balance my moods. Your podcast has greatly inspired me! I recently bought a pack of cultured butter at the grocery store and after having some for the first time, I noticed that I was craving more of it which usually never happens when I consume fat. After doing some research I discovered that fermented dairy products tend to have a higher glycemic index than non-fermented. What is the impact of cultured butter on the hormones that control hunger and cravings? And could consuming fermented dairy products knock me out of ketosis? Valerie from Ontario, Canada KETO TALK MAILBOX - Is it common knowledge that the AMA promotes ketosis for a greater sense of well-being and pain reduction at the end of life? Hey Jimmy and Adam, I just lost my grandfather to pancreatic cancer. He chose to have no artificial nutrition through a feeding tube and IV in the last few days of his life. I believe that this allowed him to go into ketosis and eased his passing. I also found a reference to ketosis being beneficial at the end of life in an American Medical Association (AMA) publication. In researching this further, I found the following statement in the Education for Physicians on End-of-life Care Handbook by the AMA: "Educate families about the studies that demonstrate that parenteral or enteral feeding of patients at the end of their lives neither improves symptom control nor lengthens life. Help them to understand that anorexia may be protective, as the resulting ketosis can lead to a greater sense of well-being and diminish pain." So my questions for you guys is this: Is this common knowledge in the medical community in general? We were never told this by any of my grandfather’s medical caretakers and instead were encouraged to have him drink Boost with 20-30g sugar/serving right to the end. In light of this, could exogenous ketones have helped him ease the pain more and remain lucid enough to engage with the family a period of time longer before passing? I really hope that you can share about this on Keto Talk. At least this community may be able to help a dying loved one by NOT pushing sugary drinks on them even when the nurses and doctors insist. Or possibly asking for no dextrose in their IV, especially if the patient has already said that he is ready to pass. It may be helpful to share the AMA reference with family members and caregivers, and explain what ketosis is and that the patient may not be feeling hunger. Those of us who have experienced ketosis know this firsthand. It takes courage to go against mainstream thinking, especially in the world of medicine and health. I appreciate that you do it every day with your podcasts, blogs, and books.
