As we prepare to close the book on May and begin ironing our shirts and socks in preparation for next month's Canadian Gaming Summit (registration information with a family discount – well, sort of – can be found below) in the city below Georgina, Troy Ross of TRM Public Affairs made his return to the Gaming News Canada Show. Among the topics on the agenda for our chin wag with the business/regulation of gaming veteran: Recent reporting by Geoff Zochodne for Covers and Global Gaming News on sports betting and igaming operators making their pitch to the policymakers in British Columbia to bring an open gambling market to Canada's most western province; The case for an open market in B.C. a la Ontario (and, over the next 12 months, Alberta), including the ongoing success by OLG in Ontario's bigly competitive industry. (We recommend checking out Dave Briggs's reporting in yesterday's newsletter); The case for an open marketplace in La Belle Province (despite the ongoing efforts by the Quebec Online Gaming Coalition, the chances appear to be slim to none and slim has disappeared to an unknown locale. . .);The official separation of the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario and iGaming Ontario by the Douglas Ford government. And, the creation of a new Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Gaming with Stan Cho in the minister's parking space. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Nick Kypreos, Justin Bourne and Sam McKee look back on the Leafs' 7-3 win over the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday night. They discuss the Leafs' first period to forget, Bobby McMann earning a spot in the top six, Craig Berube's patience with William Nylander paying off, Morgan Rielly's struggles, and more! Later, Lightning reporter Erik Erlendsson (34:36) shares his thoughts on Tampa's standing ahead of their Monday night matchup in Toronto, where they'd be looking to add at the trade deadline, Andrei Vasilevskiy regaining some form and Jake Guentzel's fit as Stamkos' successor. The views and opinions expressed in this podcast are those of the hosts and guests and do not necessarily reflect the position of Rogers Sports & Media or any affiliates.
The latest episode of the Gaming News Canada Show presented by GBG Plc is one of the two-segment variety. Paul Burns, the president and CEO of the Canadian Gaming Association, returned to the podcast for a rapid-round conversation including the impact of the current turbulence around the Canadian political system on the gambling industry. The proroguing of Parliament by the Liberal Party will likely result in the demise of a couple of bills, and most likely push back once again attempts to modernize anti-money laundering laws. The current ones, said Burns, don't address the creation of online gambling across the country. Burns also answered our questions about the federal/provincial dynamics around sports betting and gaming in our home and native land. The CGA head honcho also helped us tee up next week's ICE Barcelona conference, where he will meet with association members and global industry stakeholders in the first major gambling rendezvous of the new year. Ariane Gauthier, the new spokesperson for the Quebec Online Gaming Coalition, made her maiden GNCS appearance to shine a brighter light on the op-ed she keyboarded in Le Journal de Montreal last week to make the coalition's case for a regulated regime in La Belle Province. We asked Gauthier about the latest efforts by the coalition to meet with officials in the Francois Legault government at a time when it's dealing with major issues at home and the threat of harmful tariffs being imposed by U.S. president-elect Donald Trump when he takes office for the second time. When Ontario opened its doors to legal sports betting and igaming industry in April 2022, one of the first companies to provide its online slots products to the marketplace was Play'n GO. In May, the Swedish-born company announced a partnership with Loto-Québec to bring its products to the lottery corp's customers in La Belle Province. And last month, just before the start of the Canadian Gaming Summit, Play'n GO became a member of the Canadian Gaming Association. Saam Hafezi, the company's North American business lead, and head of government affairs Shawn Fluharty took time away from their version of Meetings Madness during the summit to join us on the Gaming News Canada Show. Hafezi walked us through Play'n GO's strategy for growing business in Canada and addressed the need for speed and delivering what the customers want in a highly competitive sector of the gambling industry. Fluharty, who serves as the president of the National Council of Legislators from Gaming States, explained the challenges operators face in navigating the different sets of rules created by gambling regulators in U.S. states and Ontario. The latest Gaming News Canada dispatch, Thursday edition, dedicated a significant amount of wordage to recent reporting on problem gambling, especially among young adults. So, the latest Gaming News Canada Show went down the same road with the help of Phill Gray, Kris Abbott and Brock University sports management professor Dr. Michael Naraine, who's been a frequently loud voice for the provincial government - and the operators in Ontario's regulated gambling industry - to make funding available for research into a market that will be two years old on April 4th. The conversation also referenced the soon-to-come changes imposed by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission on Ontario for advertising and marketing campaigns.Nathalie Bergeron, the spokesperson for the Quebec Online Gaming Coalition, also made her return to show and responded to reporting by a Sherbrooke news outlet last week that the provincial government in La Belle Province has no intentions to follow Ontario and open up a regulated marketplace. Gray, who has called Quebec home for almost 25 years, provided his thoughts on the issue. The coalition also recently submitted a pre-budget brief to the province to once again make the case for an expanded legal industry, and Bergeron weighed on that report. The association's head honcho also gave his reaction to legal concerns expressed by the interim Auditor General of Ontario about the province's competitive market. The fourth week of Link Up's Series 6 brings us finally to Quebec with one of our fave breweries in La Belle Province, Noctem! Brian Pierce joins Tiff and Cee to chat about how their neighbourhood's demographics and diversity contribute to the vibe of their taproom, why they prefer to work with local non-profits to directly impact their community, and the importance of trying something new to bring in new blood. We cracked their Nano Hydra IPA, brewed with Hydra yeast from Escarpment Labs along with Strata and Citra hops for a light, flavourful and crushable 2.6% IPA. Cheers! About the Link Up season: We're back with a brand new season of BAOS Podcast, and this one is something very special and very close to us. The Canadian Football League's just-announced partnership with FanDuel is the beginning of the league rolling out its sports betting strategy. That comes from our conversation this week with Owen Welsh, the CFL's associate VP of sports betting, gaming and innovation. Welsh explained the opportunities around the new deal with FanDuel, and the ties of the partnership to both TSN and Genius Sports. He also discussed the league's coordination with its nine members clubs in the gambling space, which includes the highly-competitive sports betting and igaming market in Ontario, and a monopoly of sorts for provincial lottery and gaming corporations across the rest of the true north, strong and free. Nathalie Bergeron, the spokeswoman for the Quebec Online Gaming Coalition, was also our guest and provided an update on the group's efforts to persuade elected officials in La Belle Province to bring in a regulated industry. (As well as a note from The Big Story about covering breaking news.)On October 3, nearly everyone agrees that Premier Francois Legault and the CAQ will win another election. But after that, there's a lot in flux. The Parti Quebecois have shrunk to almost nothing, the Liberals are fighting to offer voters a vision ... and the Quebec Solidaire party has a progressive platform and an entirely different approach to sovereignty: Why should it only be for Quebec? Can they win over enough disgruntled CAQ voters to make it close? Earlier this summer, we produced an episode on the modern ethics of kosher food. It was so popular, the following week we recorded a spiritual sequel, tackling the high cost of kosher meat. The result: the executive director of the Jewish Community Council of Montreal, Rabbi Saul Emanuel, reached out wanting to share their side of the story. Rabbi Emanuel also heads up Montreal Kosher, better known as MK—sometimes jokingly referred to as "Mafia Kosher". This week, Avi had the chance to speak with Rabbi Emanuel and challenge him directly about some of his organizations' choices. Why can't halakhah evolve? Why insist on arcane rules when jobs and affordability are at stake? Why compare Montreal's meat prices to New York's, when the cost of living is so much cheaper in La Belle Province? His answers result in some heated debate with our own resident rabbi podcast host. After that, Gabe Pulver from Menschwarmers pops in to break down how Canada ranked at the Maccabiah Games, and Nathan Englander sat down with Ilana Zackon to describe the experience of adapting one of his books into a stage play for the first time. Credits Bonjour Chai is hosted by Avi Finegold, Ilana Zackon and David Sklar. Michael Fraiman is the producer. Andre Goulet is the technical producer. Our theme music is by Socalled. It's been over a month since we published Ep 14, so here's TWO AND A HALF HOURS of nonsense and yakking to make up for our absence. In the first half, we talk to Montreal-based gamer Pierre-Yves Troel, who wowed us all in March at HotLead with his participation game of What a Cowboy, a much-anticipated western gunfight game soon to be published (we hope) from Too Fat Lardies. P-Y (Mike totally mangled his name and variously called him Y-P, P-J, and God knows what else, though our guest was too polite to say anything) talks about his gaming career, discovering the TFL community through online gaming, and his growing expertise in 3D printing. We also talked about the gaming scene in La Belle Province of Quebec. In the second half, during our Canadian Content Corner (CCC), friend of the podcast Chris Robinson checks in to give us a update on LardEh, Canuckistan's TFL-themed gaming day returning to Hamilton, Ontario on 28 March. Chris also tells us about what he and Big Rich chatted about when Chris was a guest of the TFL Oddcast. Rounding out the CCC, Mike reports on what he's learned about how the Canadian Army faced a massive challenge training an NCO Corps from scratch in WW2. We also chat about about the Guadalcanal Campaign, about gaming WW3, James' WW3 Imaginations (Mantovia and Borduria), Mike's discovery of DBA (talk about coming late to the party) and how many figures a horse and musket unit really needs. Episode 189: Starting in 1963 and stretching over the next seven years, a militant French separatist group called the Front de libération du Québec (FLQ) terrorized La Belle Province. Their aim was to overthrow the Quebec government and leave Canada creating an independent Marxist- Leninist Quebec state. By 1970 the group had committed more than 200 violent criminal and terroristic acts including, bombings and high profile kidnappings. The group's activities ultimately claimed the lives of eight people, including a Quebec provincial cabinet minister, and injured many more, before then Prime Minister, Pierre Elliot Trudeau, finding himself out of options, enacted the 1914 War Measures act to stem the violence of the October Crisis of 1970. He was an ECHL All-Star, in 2002 led the QMJHL with 596 penalty minutes and in 2013 won a championship in Slovenia. He’s now in Indianapolis working at the Center of Excellence as a success coach, coaching the U13 AAA Tri-State Spartans and he’s a mental health advocate. If you've been following our recent episodes, you may have noticed a bit of a trend towards low ABV beers happening in QC. This session trend has gotten so real that the newest brewery in Quebec exclusively makes session beers. Echo Session Ales, ran by TV guys JF and JP, are making some serious noise in La Belle Province with their first two canned offerings, a Witbier with whole oranges and a hazy session IPA. We got hold of the guys down at Boswell in Montreal to crush some of their beers (including their awesome Boswell collab) and find out why session beers are making so much noise. Note: The bar got extremely crowded and noisy towards the end of the podcast, it's still very clear and audible, it just gets a little distorted as the mic levels weren't adjusted as the ambient noise increased. Beers Reviewed: Echo Session Ales Witbier; Boswell x Echo Session Ales Echo-Labo; Echo Session Ales Hazy Session IPA. Hello, dear listeners! This week Mathieu and Edgar get in touch with their feminine side with a little bit of help from Ian Fleming. Just like the kids at school, it's back to the books with The Spy Who Loved Me, a story told exclusively from the 1st person perspective of a young twenty-something woman. Can there be a Bond novel in which a character other than 007 is the most interesting? How much of La Belle Province did Fleming know about? How cold and methodical are Germans at sex? Get cozy and join us; we left the vacancy light on.
(19:15)We're thrilled to have two of our FanSided affiliates on this show to help bask in the glory of all things NHL. Defender Radio: The Podcast for Wildlife Advocates and Animal Lovers
From Stubby, the highly decorated canine soldier in World War One, to Pete the Pup, who tagged along with the Little Rascals, pit bull like dogs were once a loyal friend and family pet. But due to media sensationalism, reactionary politics, and crippling bias, they are being outlawed and ostracized. Recently, communities within Quebec and La Belle Province itself have proposed numerous actions they say will protect citizens from dangerous dogs – but most of these actions are simply breed specific legislation. Defender Radio was today joined by two special guests – Anita Kapuscinska of the Montreal SPCA to speak about legislation in Quebec, and Dr. Karen Overall, a veterinary specialist and researcher, to discuss myths and facts about dogs and pit bull-like dogs around the world.
