In celebration of Veteran’s Day in the United States, Jayzen talks about personal branding with Val Nicholas who got his start in the US Army and how it impacted on his personal brand and career. We all pay a premium for the brands that we love. Great brands stand for something and give you a full brand experience, versus just being a commodity product where the lowest cost is all that matters. The same is true of your personal brand and how your career audience sees you. Are you a super-premium brand that commands a higher price? Are you the go-to person that everyone wants on their project team? Or, do you just blend in as one of the herd. To reach your next career breakthrough, you have to stand out like a super-premium brand. Val is an award winning producer and currently is the Senior Vice President and Creative Director SummitMedia Corporation. Previously, he has held executive positions at several top media companies. Val is a proud veteran of the US Army and has worked extensively to expand workplace opportunities for vets. He has held management positions at top media companies including NBC News & MSNBC, ABC and KCRA-TV. Val is a proud veteran of the US Army and attended the US Army Leadership Training School. When our kids go off to college, the kind of foundation that has been laid for their faith becomes evident. Today Shelby Abbott talks about how we as parents can prepare our kids well for that time by teaching them that “Jesus is a sufficient answer for the questions that people have.” Doubts are a normal part of our kids growing up and making faith their own, and we want those questions asked in the context of home, so that we can help them move toward a deeper faith rather than unbelief. About our Guest: Shelby Abbott is an author, campus minister, and conference speaker on staff with the ministry of Cru. His passion for university students has led him to speak at college campuses all over the United States and author the books Jacked, I Am a Tool (To Help with Your Dating Life), and Pressure Points: A Guide to Navigating Student Stress. He and his wife, Rachael, have two daughters and live in Downingtown, Pennsylvania. TITLE Best of the Podcast—What is a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP)? Aren’t all HSPs Introverts? GUEST Jacquelyn Strickland, LPC EPISODE OVERVIEW Jacquelyn Strickland co-created the HSP Gathering Retreats with Dr. Elaine Aron in 2000, and she has worked exclusively with HSPs since then. Jacquelyn talks about the 4 Core Characteristics of being a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP), and the differences between Highly Sensitive and non-Highly Sensitive introverts and extroverts, as well as the ambivert. Jaquelyn also talks about sensitivity as we age, and what it means to be fully integrated with a strong sense of self-identity as an HSP. HIGHLIGHTS We discuss the term Highly Sensitive Person and Jacquelyn shares her thoughts about this name There are 1.4 Billion HSPs in the world and we all share these 4 core characteristics The 4 Core Characteristics of being a Highly Sensitive Person as coined by Dr. Elaine Aron D—Depth of Processing Elaine Aron feels that Depth of Processing is a key component for HSPs Depth of processing happens in the pre-frontal cortex, so HSPs see breadth and depth of things around us We reflect more than others on the way the world is going We think about the meaning of life We Wonder about the quality of relationships we’re in We’re aware of social justice issues O—Overarousal and Overstimulation That feeling of being stressed out Feeling burnt out This may be the most negative thing HSPs experience since our current dominant culture is about doing Chronic overstimulation can lead to depression and anxiety E—Emotional Responsiveness and Empathy We bring more emotional intensity and empathy in most every situation There’s a difference between emotional intensity and emotional reactivity We can honor our emotional intensity—this is where we express our feelings in the arts, writing beautiful poems, people who show or speak passionately about they feel We have more mirror neurons S—Sensitive to Subtleties We can notice when the barometric pressure is dropping Some HSPs may have perfect pitch We have more side effects to medications We are usually sensitive to changes in temperature We may notice the sound of a ticking clock or dripping water 70% of Highly Sensitive Persons (HSPs) are introverts 30% of Highly Sensitive Persons (HSPs) are extroverts There are 5 distinct groups we need to look at when talking about introversion and extroversion HS introvert HS extrovert Non-HS introvert Non-HS extrovert Ambivert Jacquelyn also talks about the Myer’s Briggs and what it means when scores on introversion or extroversion are high and low The concept of the battery being charged for extroverts and drained for introverts when they are around people is primarily talking about Non-HSPs A HS extrovert will enjoy being alone; will need time to recharge after extroverting, and will probably choose specific venues to socializing that are different than a Non-HS extrovert A HS extrovert needs to find the right amount of novel stimulation, to renew and recharge A HS extrovert may want to know who will be at the party (their political affiliation, what the activities will be; how long will the activity last) in order to see if it satisfies our HS needs As we get older, we may get more particular about where and how we choose to expend our energy and time We can be sensitive extroverts, or we can choose to introvert You can be a HS extrovert and still feel socially awkward or not always feel at ease in social situations Our depth of processing can make it challenging if we’re reading the room, or we may go home and wonder if we talked too much or did things right If you feel uncomfortable in a social situation, it helps to have a role—volunteer to help; arrive early before it gets crowded When we worry about doing things right or following the rules it can make it harder for us to trust that how we show up is just right I thought I had social anxiety, was anxious, was an introvert, so I avoided social situations and felt depressed and lethargic. Turns out, I’m a Highly Sensitive Extrovert, which is why I’m so passionate about providing information to others who may read memes around introversion and mistakenly identify The ambivert doesn’t have the DOES, but can choose whether to introvert or extrovert We want to be fully self-identified and integrated as HSPs regardless of whether we’re an introvert or extrovert Once we get fully integrated with a strong sense of self-identify, when we’ve healed our wounds, when we’ve reframed our past, when we’ve got a plan of knowing when and how to be out in the world, we don’t hide anymore. We talk about sensitivity and whether it increases as we age We discuss HSPs and social media We talk about the HSP retreats that Jacquelyn has been running and the benefits and unexpected gifts she’s seen people get from these retreats We talk about some of the things that are unrelated to being an HSP that are often posted in groups, and then people identify and things that are not related to being an HSP get mistakenly attributed to being an HSP Jacquelyn acknowledges Dr. Elaine Aron’s work and the fact that she’s opened the doors for many people (myself included) to specialize in working with The Highly Sensitive Person Thank you Dr. Elaine Aron! GUEST BIO Jacquelyn has been a Licensed Professional Counselor since 1993, which is the same year she became certified to utilize the statistically valid & reliable Myers Briggs Personality Assessment. Her professional and personal lives took synchronistic detour when she stumbled across Elaine Aron’s original work in May 1996 while waiting for a bus not far from where Elaine lives in Marin County, California. Since that time, Jacquelyn has devoted herself to empowering sensitive people around the world. She and Elaine co-created the HSP Gathering Retreats in 2001, and there have been 35 and counting HSP Gatherings, both nationally and internationally – in Canada, Germany, Sweden, United Kingdom, and on both U.S. coasts and in between. She is an Advanced HSP Consultant , one of 15 national & international HSP professionals trained by Elaine Aron in 2018 on the concept, measurement and research regarding of Sensory Processing Sensitivity and the highly sensitive person Besides Elaine Aron, major influences which have informed Jacquelyn’s work have been her background in Social Work, Women’s Studies, Brene Brown, Eco Psychology & her Nature as Teacher & Healer experiences. She is fortunate to live in Colorado where she has been able to immerse herself in nature for days at a time over the last 30 years. She has recently added the title of Sage – and she teaches, mentors, and counsels not only with knowledge of our HSP trait, but also with decades of wisdom from living authentically as an HSP. Elaine talks of this stage as the Priestly Advisor. She has been married to a major introvert, non-HSP, since 1978 . Her relationship with someone so different than me is what prompted my study of temperaments, including the Myers Briggs and the Enneagram. She is the mother of two grown sons, one a HSP, and the grandmother of 3 grandchildren, ages 4, 2 and 1. Her oldest granddaughter is a sensitive extrovert, like her grandmother. PODCAST HOST Patricia Young work is a licensed therapist and coach, specializing in working with Highly Sensitive People (HSPs). Patricia is passionate about providing education to help HSPs and non-HSPs understand and truly appreciate the amazing gifts they have to offer. Patricia works globally online with HSPs providing coaching. We were designed to dream, and to take responsibility for those dreams. We were made for meaning. Today's episode on the Quarantine Rhythms series is meant to ignite a spark in each of us on recognizing those hidden talents, hopes, and dreams that over the last several years or decades of our lives may have been brushed to the side. For some of us, we may immediately know what those are and be able to pinpoint exactly when it was that they got pushed to the side. For others of us, we may feel stumped and realize that we may have never been able to identify what those unique talents are.In this conversation, Gabe and Rebekah share a part of their individual stories on how discovering their talents and dreams actually led them down the pathways to where they find themselves now.Links:To learn more about the Q 2020 Virtual Summit, click HERE!To take the quiz and learn your healthiest rhythm, click HERE!To grab a copy of Rebekah's latest book, Rhythms of Renewal, click HERE.You can find Viktor Frankl's book, Man's Search For Meaning, HERE.

Welcome back to another episode of the Instant Impact podcast with Elyse Archer. Today’s guest is Regina Lawrence, attorney and law professor turned speaker, teacher, and coach. Regina specializes in helping people find peace and purpose in their lives and businesses through soulful planning and gaining clarity. Regina’s approach to coaching marries her background in legal analysis, spirituality, mindset coaching, holistic nutrition, and neuroscience to create an experience that assists her clients to go inside of themselves and make massive, life-long shifts. She’s on the show today to talk about allowing ourselves to take that next step and evolve into whatever the next phase of our life is. She shares her insight on bringing the soul into your day-to-day business when you’re poised for a reposition. Regina’s story is an incredible journey of transformation. Coming from a childhood of trauma, she propelled herself through school. Eventually though, when she seemed to have finally achieved what she was after, she had a moment when she knew she needed to change her life. She recommends some tactical practices for those who are in a place where they want to reinvent themselves and move into the next phase of their personal or professional lives. She discusses carving out “white space” through the use of affirmations and mantras. Looking at an area of your life and changing the narrative can help create that room. Through finding evidence of the affirmation, you can attach energy to the sentences you use. Elyse and Regina discuss some of the biggest things to remember when you’re in a state of transition and transformation. Giving yourself permission, Regina says, is the first step in doing what you were called to do. You are allowed to do this. You are allowed to do it any way you want. Additionally, start to ask the questions that you were never asked. What did your soul come here to do? How can you live a life that feels good? It doesn’t have to be sudden. Easing into it deliberately can lead to a complete 180 pivot. Regina talks about running a soulful business. She believes that our soul was put here for an absolute reason. There are very distinct purposes for us to do. Your business should be in line with your calling. It should nurture what you were meant to do and what you want to do. TITLE A Research Scientist Talks About Brain Research in the Highly Sensitive Person GUEST Dr. Bianca Acevedo EPISODE OVERVIEW Dr. Bianca Acevedo talks about how the brain responds to emotional displays, and what deep processing really entails. She explains the different ways the insula processes information. She also talks about intuition, and she answers the question: Do HSPs have more mirror neurons? I was surprised at the answer! Dr. Acevedo talks about a way that HSPs can recharge in 8 minutes, and she talks about the overall percentage of people who are very sensitive, moderately sensitive and less sensitive. HIGHLIGHTS Acevedo worked with Dr. Arthur Aron She has studied romantic love and newleyweds Acevedo looked at brain responses to emotional display Highly Sensitive People are more affected by others’ emotional displays These studies used MRI scanners They looked at empathy, mirror neurons, and the insula Do HSPs have more mirror neurons? The researchers measured blood and oxygen levels HSPs process information more deeply The insula processes information in the following ways—visual, auditory, tactile, vestibular, reward system, and via the organs There is a signature pattern of response to certain things Things that become activated in response to different things Burn out can happen when we over process and we don’t get a break to recharge and recover In a memory study, HSPs who took 8 minutes to rest and close their eyes between tasks, outperformed non-HSPs Rumination is not a feature of being a Highly Sensitive Person. It correlates to having anxiety and depression, which can start as early and infancy/childhood HSPs are more sensitive to environments The impact can be lifelong and it impacts our emotional and social well-being HSPs can immerse themselves in supportive environments Acevedo was referred to as eccentric/quirky It’s important to have respect for each other’s differences (HSP vs. non-HSP) Hopefully parents who are raising male children are supporting the traits their boys show Perhaps with increasing awareness about gender fluidity and gender roles, parents are allowing their kids to express whatever traits they have It’s important to have at least 1 HSP in a group to pick up on things that might have been lost by the non-HSP, and it’s important to have a less sensitive person in the group It’s important to be kind to yourself To accept that we need to take times for ourselves 30% of the population are very sensitive, 40% are moderately sensitive and 30% are less sensitive HSPs are an increase sense of self-awareness, contemplation and reflection This is an important piece of evolving and moving forward as a species GUEST BIO Dr. Bianca Acevedo is a research scientist at the University of California, Santa Barbara, a Visiting Scholar at New York University, a private consultant, author, and sought-after public speaker. How many times has God asked or encouraged you to do something and you responded with, “I will, but once I finish this,” or “Are you sure, God? I don’t think I have the ability to do that?” For me, I spent years making up excuses about why I wasn’t ready or why I was too busy to do the things God was calling me to do. So, when a business relationship of mine went sideways last year, and God had already called me to end it months before, I thought, “That’s it, I’m claiming obedience as my theme for 2020.” And all of this got me thinking about what my life would look like if I just obeyed God the first time – on everything He’s called me to do. What would your life look like if you practiced obedience over convenience, perfection, logic or procrastination? Today’s episode is brought to you by Command the Stage, a 2-day intimate training created for the next generation of transformational speakers who desire to confidently communicate the message they’ve been called to share with the masses. How would you like to captivate your audience, attract your tribe, build authority and use speaking from the stage to grow your platform exponentially by becoming more magnetic, more memorable and more powerful? Get more details at patricewashington.com/stage. Obedience Over Everything Takeaways Obedience means having perfect confidence in God. – Patrice Washington God does not speak to be heard, He speaks to be obeyed. – Priscilla Shirer How often do you choose perfection, avoidance, excuses, expectations, logic or convenience over obedience? – Patrice Washington What if you were obedient the first time you heard God? What would your life look like? – Patrice Washington “All these blessings will come upon you, and overtake you, if you pay attention to the voice of the Lord your God.” – Deuteronomy 28.2 We overthink and overcomplicate things because we weren’t being obedient to begin with. – Patrice Washington Now, I’d love to know – what would your life look like if you practiced obedience over convenience, perfection, logic or procrastination? Let me know in the comments. And if you’re up for the challenge, let’s do an obedience challenge. Instead of waiting or making excuses or rationalizing, how can you move forward today with the vision God has given you? And how will you practice obedience to that vision every day? When we finished this interview, we looked at each other for a moment - silent. And then we both said "Wow". We knew we just shared something truly special. Something game changing. Something that had the ability to create major shifts for people who took heed to the insights, advice and lessons. There's no doubt that we all have a "great work" in us. And it's not just about our business or career. It's about how we live with purpose in every area of life. But doing our great work requires focus, prioritizing, clarity, a strategy and a plan. If you've ever found yourself challenged in any of these areas, there could be one simple, but powerful, concept that can totally change the game for you. In this episode, I talk with Patrice Washington, Founder of Redefining Wealth, about the necessity of choosing. Choosing your focus. Choosing your priorities. Choosing your goals. Choosing your authentic path. We also explore the concept we both use in our own lives when it comes to being able to stand firmly in your choices so you can give your time, energy, effort and commitment to fully achieving your goals, vision and purpose. Have you ever noticed how many people use Valentine’s Day and the gifts they receive as an indicator for how much their spouse or significant other loves them? They’ll post pictures of all their gifts on Facebook and Instagram and say things like, “Look at how much so-and-so loves me!” But is this love? I ask because I’m not so sure it is. See, for many of those women, sure they’ll get the candy and flowers, but when it comes time for them to invest in themselves, their spouse or significant other will usually say, “We can’t afford it,” or worse “I don’t want you to.” And to me, that’s not love. Love is about support, and on today’s episode, I’ve invited the husbands of three Purpose 2 Platform students to share how and why they support their wives, and how this support has made their marriages stronger. Join us as we shift from conventional Valentine’s Day speak and zero-in on how love looks like when you’re supportive, not demonstrative. This episode is brought to you by Purpose 2 Platform, a 20-week business accelerator and mentorship program that will get you clear on HOW to package your PURPOSE, communicate your PROMISE to your ideal audience, choose the best PLATFORM for your personality and lifestyle and create a PREMIUM offer. If that’s where you are, follow Dr. Jameson Mercier’s advice. Be honest and speak to your spouse about what you need. And, of course, Happy Valentine’s Day. The Case: Emily has 2 autoimmune diseases She decided to get tested for EBV (Epstein Barr Virus) which her doctor reluctantly did. Her doctor didn’t know how to interpret her results and dismissed her concerns. What Emily experienced is very common. Conventional doctors often are hesitant to test for EBV and don’t truly know how to read the results. In some cases, they don’t even order the right lab tests. Emily knew that there was more to the story than her doctor understood. She’d educated herself about EBV and knew that there could be a connection to her 2 autoimmune diseases. And, that her health could be on the line. The Investigation I was happy to help Emily better interpret her lab results. As we learned in the first case of suspected EBV, this can be a very complicated, confusing, and time-sensitive diagnosis. There are few people who understand it better than Dr. Kasia Kines, so I brought her back to discuss Emily’s case. Dr. Kasia, she is a Doctor of Clinical Nutrition and the CEO of EBV Educational Institute and Holistic Nutrition Naturally. She is also the author of the Amazon Bestseller: The Epstein-Barr Virus Solution. Four Markers to Test for EBV Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) is complicated. In order to get a full picture of what’s going on with the virus (and determine if it’s latent or new), there are four markers that should be tested. These are tested through blood tests that many labs offer. The four tests are: EA IgG (Early Antigen) - this is the most important test and it’s often missed. If your doctor skips this one you won’t know your true EBV status. EBNA IgG (Epstein Barr Nuclear Antigen) - Indicates a history of infection in non-acute cases. This tells the story of the long term status of the virus. VCA IgG (Viral capsid antigen) - Indicates an acute infection and will remain perpetually present after initial infection. VCA IgM (Viral capsid antigen) - Is present in the early phase of an infection and usually disappears. For what the results mean, see the chart in this week's show notes here: Health Mysteries Solved Podcast - Episode 43 [chart courtesy of Dr. Kines’ website] The Often Missed EBV Test The EA IgG early antigen test is the most important in getting a big picture of what’s going on right now with the virus. Unfortunately, it is often skipped by doctors. When you have EBV, the virus stays in the body (and we may not be able to ever kill it off entirely). Dr. Kines says that 90 - 95% of the population carries the virus and for many, it doesn’t impact their day-to-day health. Despite this, someone may wake up and feel like they’ve been run over by a truck. Could it be the latent EBV reactivating? The early antigen test is key in determining this - and it must be tested early on (within the first few weeks of the ‘flare-up’ or reactivation). If this test is not done, you could have active EBV and not know it which can be dangerous. Symptoms of Active EBV A reactivation of EBV can present in a variety of ways. I could seem like the flu with severe fatigue and feeling like you’ve been ‘run over by a truck’. It can also present with cold-like symptoms (sore throat, swollen lymph nodes), or skin rashes, and even gut or digestive issues. Digestive issues could present as constipation, pain, or symptoms related to leaky gut. If you have an autoimmune disease like Hashimoto’s, it might present as a flare-up of the autoimmune disease. The real challenge with symptoms of EBV is that there are so many potential symptoms that could easily be something else. This is why EBV is often not considered or caught. How to Decrease Elevated EBV Markers When there is a flare up, the results on the lab can be very confusing - especially when the level is shown simply as above the maximum lab result. Dr. Kines has a protocol she recommends (and I use it with my patients too). This recommends a restricted diet and a lot of rest. It is all outlined in her book. It is also important to continue to monitor the markers. However, Dr. Kines points out that everyone’s levels are going to be different. Some will decrease significantly with lifestyle changes while others may take longer. However, how you feel is more important than what the labs say. If you feel good, and your labs are elevated, then consider that a win. She says that it’s easy for people to get demoralized but it’s not all about the numbers. Other Factors in EBV If someone is following the protocol and not getting results (either in how they feel or their lab results), then there may be something else at play. Two of the most common culprits are heavy metals and molds. For more on heavy metals, listen to episode 024 and for more on mold listen to episode 006. Mold can really block any efforts to decrease EBV marker levels because it devastates the immune cells and system. In cases where mold or heavy metals are an issue on top of elevated EBV markers, the mold and heavy metals must be addressed first. Negative Reaction to the EBV Protocol Introducing a new protocol of supplements and dietary restrictions can trigger reactions. However, Dr. Hines recommends starting slow with the protocol. If there is a reaction, then you can stop the protocol and add in the different pieces one by one to determine if there is one thing that is causing an issue. She also recommends, as do I, that you always opt for top-quality supplements to minimize the chance that you’ll have a negative reaction. EBV Triggers to Avoid One surprising trigger the Dr. Kines mentioned comes from forest fires. This should be on your radar if you live near an area (like California) where there are a lot of forest fires. When fires burn, they give off a toxin called dioxin which has been shown to reactivate EBV. You can also be exposed to this toxin through cigarette smoke (even second-hand), campfires, fireworks, or the burning of debris. She also mentioned that wifi exposure should be closely monitored. This includes your own router but also the wifi used for smart meters that could be penetrating your walls. Additionally, she cautions against blue light exposure (commonly from TV, computer screens, and smartphones). Even your next vacation could expose you to EBV triggers (listen to the episode to find out how). All of these triggers can also reactivate the Epstein-barr virus. Mystery Solved Let’s take a look at Emily’s labs. Her VCA IgM was negative which made her doctor think the infection was not current, but she had an elevated early antigen. Her doctor completely missed that. While her symptoms weren’t dramatic, she knew something was wrong and the tests proved it. Because of her sensitive stomach, we opted for the protocol that included the amino acids and antioxidants Dr. Kasia talks about in this episode (Lysine, NAC, Selenium and Zinc). She tired Monolaurin but experienced die-off symptoms so we stuck with the original protocol. Happy Ending Emily’s digestive issues subsided in about 3 weeks and her energy started to slowly come back over the next 6 weeks. We retested the markers 12 weeks later and the EA was back to negative. We were also excited to see her VCA IgG went from 400 to 350 and that her autoimmune antibodies went down by 57 points too. She was thrilled with her progress and will continue with a maintenance protocol and self-care protocol. She’ll test the 4 EBV markers annually to ensure she stays on top of it. Eliminating Health Mysteries For Emily we were able to find the clue in her lab work that her doctor had missed. This allowed us to get a clear picture of what was going on and help her regain her health. Could EBV be the missing clue for you or someone in your life? If you’re feeling like you’ve missed the mark this year or you didn’t accomplish everything you wanted to, then this episode is for you. This week we’re shifting how we reflect on wins and accomplishments, and celebrating the process and steps to those wins just as much as the wins themselves. Many of us look to Instagram or to our Facebook memories to try to piece together the wins and milestones of the year, but we often forget the small steps and work that was needed to achieve those things. I use journaling, not only as a powerful manifestation tool, but also as a reminder of the process to whatever goal I’ve set for myself. Journaling, for me, is not about keeping a diary, it’s about understanding how to unlock more of the things I say I want and heal the things that come up in the process. This episode is brought to you by Rachel Luna and the Faith Activated Journaling Experience, which is a year-long experience that teaches you how to stop wasting your time and so you can manifest MASSIVE results through journaling. You’ll discover how to unlock your blessings, author the life of your dreams and create rapid results in just 5 minutes a day. If you want to up level your game and GROW in the 6 pillars of Wealth, check out Faith Activated by going to PatriceWashington.com/FaithActivated. You’re moving forward, so celebrate it. If you’re stuck thinking, “It’s never good enough,” you’re going to stay stuck another year, and that’s not what I want for you. Have you ever been in a relationship with someone – personal or professional – where the connection doesn’t feel fully aligned, and it makes you a little uneasy, but you ignore it? In most cases, we figure it’s just us, right? Or, that we’re merely reading too much into a given situation or exchange. Well, this week I’m here to tell you: Don’t ignore those gut feelings you have and stop romanticizing relationships – current and expired ones. For me, this topic hits close to home because I recently tried to justify accepting behavior that was not in alignment with my core values. It was one of those, “Well, I know that’s how so-and-so treats other people, but with me, it’s different.” Reality is, IT’S NOT! It’s easy to romanticize and believe that it is, but the thing is, their treatment of others is a direct reflection of who they are and you are not exempt from experiencing this. Join me as I share more on this topic and provide actionable steps you can take to untie and end relationships that are out of integrity with your values. Are you living your best life? Sadly, most people aren’t because they’re in a constant cycle of overconsumption and indebtedness, and mindlessly spending on things that don’t add value to their life or purpose. Today’s guest was once in that exact spot. Jason Vitug, author of You Only Live Once, remembers how the path to success was drilled into him growing up. It’s the same path we’re all told to follow – graduate high school, go to college, get a job, get a car, get a promotion, buy a house – pretty standard, and oftentimes simply achieving these things doesn’t make us happy. For Jason, he started on this path and then began to question it, asking, “When do I actually become happy?” It’s this realization coupled with the concept of YOLO in reverse that became the topic for his book. In You Only Live Once, Jason applies YOLO to personal finance and discovers it’s not about instant gratification, but rather about long-term satisfaction. Listen in and learn how you can shift your money mindset and experience YOLO today and for years to come. But as with any tool, if we lack the skill to use it, it won’t benefit us much. If you purchase a TV for $600 and you make $10/hour, that TV now represents 60 hours of your life. Think about that. – Jason Vitug When it comes to living your best life, where are you? Are you mindlessly spending money on things that don’t add value to your life or purpose? Redefining Wealth Rapid Wisdom Questions And with that, let’s dig into Jason’s responses to our Redefining Wealth Rapid Wisdom Questions. Define Success: “Success is the ability to fall down and get right back up and keep moving forward. Failure is just a pit stop to success – it’s not permanent unless we decide it’s permanent.” Define Wealth in 3 Words or Less: “To live well.” One Book that Has Redefined How You See Wealth: A Guide to a Good Life: The Ancient Art of Stoic Joy by William B. What are you feeding your spirit? Seriously, what are we putting into our bodies that’s positioning us to actually get what we say we want? The Holy Spirit placed so many lessons on my heart as I was locked away in a hotel room, snacking and working on my next book. It was like a blaring alarm went off, and at that moment, I realized I wasn’t just snacking physically. I was snacking spiritually, too. You see, I’d do some drive-by faith by getting in a devotional here or there. Vibe to some gospel music at the gym or drop a “preach, sis, preach” on a faith-based meme on social media, all the while convincing myself it was enough. But the truth is, I was snacking. And if snacking alone is not enough to nourish our bodies, how is it ever enough to feed our spirits? It’s not. I want you to know spiritual malnutrition is a serious condition that will leave you ready to pop off over insignificant things and incapable of living in the fullness of what you’re asking for, among other things. That’s why we must choose to make time to nourish our spirits on a daily basis. Now, have you ever thought to yourself, “I just need more hours in the day?” I know I have, so when I meet women with full lives and full plates who seem to do SO MUCH with joy, peace, style, grace and ease, I'm always quick to ask them the secret. When I met, Tina Black, a Paul Mitchell school owner, salon owner, author, podcaster, wife and mother how she does it all, she reminded me, “It's not about time management, it's about priority management.” Tina doesn't believe in letting life just happen, she believes in planning. She created BE A PLANNER to help us all get ready for our best decade ever! Be a Planner teaches you how to plan your quarter, month, week and day down to a tee. It helps you think through what you should be doing versus what you should be delegating. Success Leaves Clues, Purpose Chasers, and for just $30 for a year-long planner, I'm willing to see how much of what has helped Tina create her amazing success can be applied to my life for sure. To pick up your copy of “Be A Planner,” head to TinaBlack.net/SHOP. And let’s plan our way into a purposeful 2020 and beyond. Nourishing your spirit surely deserves a bullet on your daily to-do list just as much as the other things in your life, so plan it into your day. Spiritual Takeaways You can’t outwork a bad spiritual diet. There’s no need in wishing, hoping and praying for things you’re not spiritually strong enough to accept, embrace, hold, maintain and sustain. Faith is about believing in something greater, so if you say you believe in something, then you must make time to practice it. Don’t get so far it this wealth-building, business-building, brand-building and people-pleasing that now you think you can snack your way to spiritual victory. Spirituality is not a one-size-fits-forever thing. What you feed your spirit today may not be enough to nourish the vision that God has for you tomorrow. Let us know your biggest takeaway from this episode in the comments section. What changes are you willing to make to your spiritual diet?
