THE TROUBLED DEEP: Nobody ever knew what happened to the Brindleys. One summer they were there - flashy, loud and beautiful - and then they were gone. A mother, father and two children, vanished into the East Anglian night. Some said the family never made it home from the party; their speeding car thrown off the tracks and the four of them silently buried in the marshes. Others said they had simply moved on. For thirty years, the case remained as cold as the freezing waterways of the Norfolk broads.Until Cam Killick found the car.An ex-marine and ex-SBS officer, Cam Killick's PTSD has made the return to civilian life a living nightmare. The only place he can find peace is underwater, where the world is muffled to white noise. As a cold case diver it is his job to scour the waterways of the country for the lost, the submerged, the drowned, laying their stories to rest alongside them.Except when Cam throws open the doors to the Brindley car, all four bodies are missing. And Cam will soon learn that some secrets, once submerged, are better off staying that way.ROB PARKER is the author of Far From The Tree, the No. 1 bestselling thriller for Audible Original and the first instalment in the Thirty Miles trilogy, as well as eight novels for independent publishers. He is the host of both Crime Central Manchester, a monthly showcase of emerging crime writing talent and blockbuster bestsellers, and the Blood Brothers podcast. For this episode, marine podcaster Ceri Hurford-Jones meets two heavyweights of the yachting world to talk about perhaps the best known pilot book of them all, The Shell Channel Pilot. The sailing legend that is Tom Cunliffe is handing over editorship of this long-lived and authoritative tome to its first woman compiler, Rachael Sprot, herself a rising star in the world of sailing writing and from a family of well-respected sailors and authors. To many, Tom needs little introduction. A celebrated career as a broadcaster, writer and Yachtmaster Examiner began when he was sent off to the Norfolk Broads as a teenager with his best mate and a book entitled ‘How to Sail'. At university he sailed when he should have been studying, and his first boat, Leihane, a 22ft centreboard sloop, led to him buying a bigger boat, Sarri, on which he and his wife Ros lived, berthed in the mud on the Hamble River in the 1970s. A chance meeting with a man in a pub who said he would give them a job if they sailed to Brazil led to them stocking up and setting off with just £50 in their pockets. He ended up working at the National Sailing Centre at Cowes, where he became skipper of the race boat Griffin, narrowly missing out on the infamous ‘79 Fastnet Race. Since getting his bus pass (his words!) Ros and Tom bought Constance, a 44ft Bermudan cutter that really allows them to stretch their sea legs. Rachael Sprot is a sailing instructor and a Yachtmaster Examiner who's been sailing since she was a child, when she was told in no uncertain terms that she'd be grateful for it one day! A prolific writer for sailing magazines including Yachting Monthly and Yachting World, she owned various boats when involved with Rubicon Three, a sailing adventure company, but has just bought her first ever personal boat, a pretty, long keel, 1970s-built Cheoy Lee 36 that she says is now taking an awful lot of her weekends to get up to scratch. Although Rachael has just embarked on her own journey with the Channel Pilot, she has an impressive number of sea miles logged, and as the book changes authorship so too will its voice, as it has since it was conceived by K. Adlard Coles in the 1930s. It has long encouraged even the most novice sailor to explore the waters of the English Channel, and the wealth of knowledge it shares includes not just data but a guiding hand, a rich narrative and a sense of exploration that will be relished by all! Moving Matters

In this episode Holly Oven, Transport Manager of Britannia Alan Cook discusses how she began in the industry only 2 years ago and is still a mere 21 years of age! Holly has always been indirectly involved within the industry, but her initial career path was to be in accounting where she began her training during and after college, until Covid happened. Britannia Alan Cook is a family business which Holly's parents bought in 2008, as Alan Cook Removals, joining Britannia Movers International in 2018. Today Britannia Alan Cook operate 25 vehicles (10 trucks, 1 trailer, 15 vans), have 3 warehouses across 2 sites and employ approximately 40 staff. Britannia Alan Cook specialise in the domestic removals & storage market, self-storage, international relocation and offer a shredding service. Holly's biggest challenge has been having a young and female voice on the telephone, where customers would question her knowledge. Other challenges have been being the boss's daughter, and more recently the tachograph changes. As Holly's chosen career of being within the industry is still so early on there is nothing she would change from her moving past but is excited for what the future has to offer. Holly has several highpoints of being within the industry already, obtaining her CPC qualification, being part of the Removals & Storage Magazine's Women in the Industry feature, and of course being a guest on Moving Matters. We digress away from the standard questions to find out more about the recent BAR Young Movers Group conference in Cambridge. The one thing Holly would like to change within the industry is again the conveyancing system, however on the flip side, if it didn't provide such complications would more companies provide removal services and potentially flood the marketplace? Holly also believes the removal industry and solicitors should be working closer together rather than against each other, and together we touch on legislation. The advice Holly would give herself just starting out within the industry again is to have confidence and believe in yourself, something Holly has been working upon. Also, to find and implement a robust organisation system. In the next 5 years Holly would like to continue her development and undertake more courses, including the BAR Removals Masterclass, and to obtain her Class C licence! And within Britannia Alan Cook, Holly is hoping that a younger management team will be in place, alleviating the pressure from her father. Industry wise Holly hopes we will all be recovering from the expected downturn, an increase in sustainability and environmental practices, electric vans (but not electric trucks), recognition of the industry at governmental level, and finally that the crews get the recognition they thoroughly deserve. Outside of the industry Holly enjoys watching her football team of Norwich City, she is a bookworm, participates in yoga with her mother, and she is a ‘proper' foodie (her words not mine) who enjoys going out for meals and drinks with friends. And as always we end Moving Matters with a funny moving story, or more a quaint one, regarding a move to an old railway signal box on the Norfolk Broads using her father's cruiser as the transportation vessel. Enjoy! This week on my podcast “Conversations About Art” I spoke with Kate MccGwire, a British sculptor who spent her childhood growing up on the Norfolk Broads. Taking feathers as her primary medium, MccGwire goes through labour-intensive processes of collecting, sorting and cleaning her materials to create muscular, writhing forms reminiscent of Classical sculpture and creatures from mythology. Through her practice, MccGwire celebrates feathers, which are commonly shed or discarded, as the medium through which she articulates enigmatic anatomies that explore physical and introspective space. She and I discuss swimming in the river, unexpected and long term collaborations, the notion of place, tracing the practice of time, being lost, looking again at what you think you know, meditative processes, what she listens to in the studio, flow, flux, patterning and energy, the power of art, and having a weird life! Royal Salute, the master of exceptionally aged Scotch whisky, has unveiled a new platform, The Art of Wonder in partnership with celebrated British sculptor, Kate MccGwire. The Art of Wonder will invite some of the most provocative artists of today to take inspiration from the craft of whisky blending to create a lasting tribute to the transformative power of creativity. For its inaugural release, Royal Salute has partnered with British sculptor, Kate MccGwire, who has created three beautifully sculpted and sensuous pieces; Paragon, Plethora, and Protean, under a body of work named Forces of Nature. Paragon is one of 21 bespoke sculptures, that sits with a remarkable 53 Year Old blended Scotch whisky, one of the highest ages ever released by Royal Salute. Plethora, which features sustainably sourced pheasant feathers flowing through the curves of copper repurposed from silent whisky stills, will be unveiled for the first time in Shanghai, China, in November 2022. Protean, the largest installation of the three, continues the theme of Plethora and will be revealed at Frieze, London on the 12th of October 2022. I never grow tired of this place with its incredible views. I arrived before Ian this week, we discussed some options in the week after looking at the forecast and had decided that we really need to be behind that cold northerly wind. Thursday was going to be the windy one and it would drop off over the next 24 hours. The pressure was rising, however, there was more sunshine forecast than earlier in the week. We need the sunshine out to keep the water temperature up and fingers crossed, the carp may feed. I was considering not bothering this week, however with the school Easter Holidays ever closer and my dad is visiting for two weeks. We are looking forward to seeing him as we last saw him last August when we holiday on the Norfolk Broads. It only gave me two weekends to fish.

In the fourth episode of 2022 and series 3, Dave talks to Matrix backed, 2012 Fish O Mania Champion, Warren Martin.Known as a commercial angler, Warren talks about how he fell into commercial fishery matches having first cut his teeth across the competitive Norfolk Broads match scene. We discuss the East Anglian Match Scene and how Warren's light hearted approach to qualifiers means he has become one of the most likable anglers within the competition scene. Known for his Pellet Waggler exploits, we look at the method in a little more depth and Warren answers those burning questions when it comes to the tactic. In the press pack we take a brief look at the news from June 1996, The latest Angling Times and Monthly Match Fishing Magazine. In the Tackle Shed Dave talks about the recent "Big One" Angling Exhibition held at Stoneleigh in Warwickshire. Who was in attendance and what it is like to work at an angling exhibition. Some new releases from Matrix and other brands will also no doubt be popular for the upcoming season. Published in 1907 by Arthur Henry Patterson, a self-taught local naturalist, Wild Life on a Norfolk Estuary was one of his defining books on the seasonal nature and natural history of the Norfolk Broads. The book is presented in two sections - The first part documents life on and around Breydon Water and the Broads throughout each season of the year, whilst the second part is a continuation of a previous AHP book – Notes of an East Coast Naturalist. AHP's approachability, enthusiasm and extensive knowledge of the natural history of the Broads region would allow him to develop regular contacts with a wide range of fellow naturalists. One of these in particular was Mary Du Caurroy Russell, Duchess of Bedford (to whom this book is dedicated), who was herself a keen ornithologist. A lifelong friendship with a mutual interest in the Breydon area of the Broads flourished between them. AHP authored many books and contributed a vast number of reports and articles to numerous nature societies and journals. Writing under the pseudonym of John Knowlittle, he was for many years, a regular and popular contributor to Norfolk's Eastern Daily Press. Today, although the Broads has become a major tourist and holiday destination, nature still thrives as it did in the time of AHP. And without doubt, his observations and studies of the local flora and fauna are as relevant today as they were when he wrote of them more than a century ago. - Summary by TND Genre(s): Modern (20th C) Language: English Get Audible: https://amzn.to/3fZZT4p Crypto Opportunities: https://bit.ly/3bB2yAu Grow your Social Following: https://bit.ly/3wJi70U ManySwap: https://bit.ly/3yGUVSP --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/freeaudiobooks/support
