Send us a textThe Regional Meetings Podcast Episode:At the taping of this podcast MMA's Advocacy Team had conducted 10 regional meetings with municipal and county officials around the state to discuss pressures on local government, possible solutions and meet with candidates for State office to understand better the needs of local government. From Presque Isle to Alfred, some issues are the same with a significant difference in the ability for local government to address them. It is abundantly clear that not all communities have access to regional planning resources, grant writers, or even full time staff but are using what few tools they have to try to answer the biggest challenges facing local government. What can legislators do better to understand capacity? Can they work more closely with local government to provide tools not rules and achieve their goals?One thing is certain, all legislators need local government to deliver on their most desired policies and many legislators need to understand that efforts with a view from York County  have more available resources than Franklin or Aroostook County but are no less important to those communities and the people they serve. Hopefully, these local conversations will generate a lot more local voices providing comments on policy in Augusta! The conversations and interactions between local and state government leaders are more important than ever and we appreciate the time you took to make these recent conversations meaningful. Whether it's tax policy, education funding, mandates or public safety, local contributions only strengthen the discussions and help to inform the decisions being made in Augusta. In the following months, MMA's Legislative Policy Committee (LPC) and Advocacy Team will be shaping the association's legislative platform. Your local LPC members are a valuable resource for both giving and receiving information. This week, a coaching exercise we're calling "Rewriting the Unhelpful Story." Take a few moments and fully realize the unhelpful story you're telling yourself. Write it all down in the third person. What does the rejection mean to her? What is the main character in your story currently letting this rejection mean, or what is he/she/they afraid it means? Spend time writing it out in your journal or speak your thoughts out loud to a safe and helpful friend, therapist, or coach.  Zoom in again and focus on the main character of your story. Write about him/her/them for a second. What is she like? What is her creative potential? What do you like about her? Personify the lead in that story, and write 3 to 5 compassion-filled phrases or truths you want her to know.  Flip to a new page and write a new story. Make the ending good, surprising, outlandish, even fanciful. It is God's Word.Your Bible reveals… Truth God's identity Your identity It would be good to read your Bible, but few have read it.   Your Bible is a complicated book. Not a single book, but a book of books. 66 books! A story of many stories. Long Story Short In this series we want to help you understand your Bible. We are going to focus on significant stories in the Bible… We are going to make them short and simple as possible. We are going to help reveal the singular common theme to all these stories. There is a common thread that runs throughout your Bible. Do you know it? John 5:39 (NIV) You study the Scriptures diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life. These are the very Scriptures that testify about me, #LONGSTORYSHORT #ALLaboutJESUS The hundreds of stories in your Bible are about 1 story – the story of Jesus. This simplifies things. As we make a “long story short” we are always going to come back to Jesus. As Jesus said, these stories testify of HIM!   Creation – Genesis 1-2 There are a lot of arguments over the first chapter of your Bible. Most of these arguments are over faith and science. Science says the world is billions of years old.The Bible seems to suggest the world is thousands of years old. Science says big bang theory and evolution.The Bible says God created everything. How does the Bible compare to science? The Bible is not a science book. It really does not make sense to treat it like a science book. Would you treat Harry Potter like a science book? Harry Potter is not written as a science book. Ask this question: What is Genesis 1 & 2 trying to show us?   Creation: Who vs How Science describes how… the Bible describes who. HOW did distinct animals and vegetation come into being? Did they evolve over time from a single cell?The Bible does not spend much time on HOW… it focuses on who. Genesis 1:11-12 (NIV) Then God said, “Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds.” And it was so. 12 The land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good. Focus on WHO rather than HOW. The scripture does not endorse nor negate evolution. Science books are written by SCIENTISTS.Genesis is written by a SHEPHERD named Moses. Imagine:  God- “Moses, evolution, it is a thing.”    Moses – “Thank you Lord. What's evolution?” Moses and the rest of the ancient world was not concerned with the Scientific how… but WHO. All of the creation story centers on the CREATOR.   The Creation story is meant to PERSONIFY the CREATOR What does personify mean? To give personal qualities and movements to a subject. The wind caused the trees to dance. I drew a picture of God. God is… Invisible Omnipresent Spirit Holy How do you have a relationship with an invisible God? Genesis is helping us get a picture of God. Genesis 1:2 (NIV) Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit(BREATH) of God was hovering over the waters. God has breath.. God hovers… God draws near Genesis 1:3 (NIV) And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. 4 God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. God said…  God talks!God saw… God sees! Genesis 2:7 (NIV) Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being. God forms from dust… God has hands.Our breath is his breath… Genesis is helping us get a picture of God, so that we can have a relationship with Him.   The Creator God provides everything we need On what day does God create man? Did you know there is a cuteness science? It's true! Cuteness plays a significant role in our lives, can trigger protective responses, and can even bring us happiness.   Transcript:   Welcome to Everyday Happiness where we create lasting happiness, in about 2 minutes a day,  through my signature method of Intentional Margins® (creating harmony between your to-dos and your priorities), happiness science, and musings about life.    I'm your host Katie Jefcoat, and yesterday we started down the road of the science of cuteness.  And I promised that today I would share how we can get it.    So, where can we get this cuteness? Of course, exposure to babies and young animals is a powerful hit, but we don't always have such access. Therefore, we must include inanimate objects, like the Japanese have done. A few examples of characters would be Hello Kitty, Care Bears, Pusheen, Animal Crossing, and even some Pokémon. However, it can be much more straightforward, like rainbows, butteries, and flowers. And, there are other ways to incorporate cuteness into your life. Psychology Today recommends the following:   Add cuteness to your day, such as cute images or items in your space. Personify your belongings with a “cuteness” mentality to make you take better care of them. Picture people as what they could have looked like as children to stave off anger. Utilize cuteness in psychology.   I'm going to touch a bit more on this one. Sometimes when people are cute, people don't take them seriously. For example, teenage girls who look much younger than their years suggest can often have trouble getting their parents or other adults to view their opinions as mature since they are still perceived as cute. A way to neutralize this is to lower your cute volume; this can be done by pitching your voice lower or making yourself seem larger. This can happen in various situations, such as husbands who view their wives as cute when they get angry or bosses who don't take their workers seriously due to their youthful appearance.   Now, I don't want to get off topic, so I will conclude with this. Cuteness is usually a good thing, and a little drop can lighten the heart and improve your happiness. So, I encourage you to take a moment today to send a cute animal picture to a loved one to trigger that aww response and brighten their day!
