Send us a textWelcome back to our birth control series!Today I'm talking about WHY you need to replenish your minerals and crucial vitamins post birth control and how replenishing minerals and supporting the liver can actually help overall with hormone balance whether you're trying to conceive or just wanting to have happier hormones all around. In this episode I'm sharing some of my favorite ways to support the liver through food, and how supporting the liver increases your ability to have balanced blood sugar, more energy, and less stress on the body. We're also talking about how you can replenish minerals in a way that's safe & effective without upsetting the mineral balance in your body and causing more problems down the road. Remember - you can't supplement your way out of a lifestyle that isn't working for your body, whether that's crazy high stress levels, not nourishing well, or a combination of both. That's why I have the step by step for you inside of Nourish Your Hormones so you can not only have better periods, more energy, and kick your PMS to the curb, but you can do it in a way that's sustainable for your busy life so you don't end up back in the same place a few months later...but with more baggage. The information Rach covers in this episode is so eye opening, and a must listen for any woman in your life. Tune in and share with your friends and family so we can create awareness about what hormonal contraception is doing in the body and how harmful hormonal birth control can be. The Salad With a Side of Fries podcast is hosted by Jenn Trepeck, discussing wellness and weight loss for real life, clearing up the myths, misinformation, bad science & marketing surrounding our nutrition knowledge and the food industry. Let's dive into wellness and weight loss for real life, including drinking, eating out, and skipping the grocery store.IN THIS EPISODE:● [6:12] What led Rach to become a holistic health nutritionist?● [12:22] Rach shares how she works with her clients. ● [14:44] What is hormonal birth control actually doing in our body?● [19:22] Rach discusses some of the unknown side effects of birth control. ● [24:35] Why should you not stop hormonal birth control cold turkey?● [26:39] What is Post Birth Control Syndrome?● [29:10] How does your body protect you and your essential organs from an overflow of hormones? (hint: fat cells)● [34:50] Rach shares the roadmap steps in her program: Better Than Birth Control. ● [42:50] While focusing on detoxification and gut repair, how long might it take for a cycle to return?● [45:25] How do we know if the symptoms we're experiencing are a result from hormonal birth control versus the symptoms of what potentially led us to start hormonal birth control in the first place? How are the symptoms different from perimenopause? ● [51:22] What are a couple key lifestyle elements to think about while going through the detox and repair process?KEY TAKEAWAYS:● For your cycle to fully return to the way mother nature intended it to, it may take 1 month per year of you taking birth control. So if you were on birth control for 10 years, expect it to take 10 cycles to return to normal.● Many young girls and women get put on birth control to help with symptoms they are experiencing such as heavy bleeds, cramping, or acne. All of these symptoms have an underlying cause that birth control is not going to fix. Birth control strictly puts you into a medicated menopause, and the symptoms will return when you get off birth control. ● The extended use of hormonal birth control has the ability to shrink your ovaries by up to 50%. And the size of your ovaries has a direct correlation to your number of fertile years.QUOTES: “As of 2017-2019, it was something like 60% of women aged 15-49 were on some form of hormonal birth control...odds are, this applies to most people.” - Jenn Trepeck“By the time I was 23, I was on six different medications and I felt awful. I just felt terrible all the time. I remember going to doctors and being like, what is causing this? Why am I so sick and these medications aren't making me better? I felt like I was just getting doors closed in my face and no doctor ever questioned my hormonal birth control ever.” - Rach Hoeppner“I think one of my biggest takeaways, Jenn, is that women are terribly underserved and highly overmedicated and all medication does is work to mask symptoms.” - Rach Hoeppner“I like to remind women that hormonal birth control is actually medicated menopause. And if it was labeled that way, I do not think people would take it as willingly.” - Rach HoeppnerRESOURCES:Birth Control Part 1 Podcast EpisodeSeven Day Detox Podcast EpisodeThe Body's Natural Detoxification Pathway Podcast EpisodeBecome A Member of Salad with a Side of FriesJenn's Free Menu PlanA Salad With a Side of FriesA Salad With A Side Of Fries MerchA Salad With a Side of Fries InstagramGUEST RESOURCESReal Health With Rach WebsiteFREE Pathways of Detoxification Support GuideBetter Than Birth Control CourseReal Health With Rach InstagramReal Health with Rach Facebook GUEST BIO:Rachel Hoeppner is a Holistic Nutritionist, Integrative Nutrition Health Coach, and Women's Health, Hormone, and Fertility Specialist. This week, your hosts are excited to welcome a very special guest, their friend Dr. Hannah Brandt, to the podcast. Hannah is a Doctor of Physical Therapy, an Integrative and Functional Nutrition Practitioner, and online health and fitness coach! Hannah always brings the truth bombs when it comes to health, hormones, and fat loss -- and that holds true in today's episode! Together, the girls dive into all things Post-Birth Control Syndrome (PBCS). Hannah discusses her decision to transition off of hormonal birth control, how she prevented pregnancy during that time, and the changes she made from a nutrition, fitness, lifestyle, and mindset standpoint to support her body. Your hosts and Hannah also dive into the changes and issues that birth control can create within the body, and Hannah discusses the difficulties she experienced with her body (very similar to Kara), as she gained 20 lbs and lost her period for an entire year post-birth control. You don't have to be on birth control or even deciding to transition off of it to get a TON of value from this episode. Doctor's won't always admit it, but post birth control syndrome IS a thing. Keep in mind, hormonal birth control isn't a medical treatment - it is BIRTH CONTROL. And when we suddenly pull those synthetic hormones from our body cold turkey, we can experience a slew of issues that convince us we need to get back on the pill even though we knew we didn't feel good on it. Get armed with the knowledge you NEED to take care of your body if you're planning to go off of hormonal birth control, or help take back the reins if you are currently in the middle of post birth control syndrome. Liz sits down with Dr. Jolene Brighten to talk about her experience as part of the documentary The Business of Birth Control, birth control as a hormone disruptor, the functional differences between “bioidentical” and synthetic hormones, alternatives to birth control for pregnancy prevention and hormone imbalance, Post Birth Control Syndrome, and other ways women can better own their reproductive experience.
In this special episode, I have the honour of chatting with Loren @innate_fertility - a Fertility Wellness Specialist - around everything to do with Hormonal Contraceptives, her experience with the pill and the side effects she experienced after coming off of it, her knowledge around fertility and preconception care and also around body image when it comes to changes within the female body. Replenishing nutrients, reducing stress and healing the body after coming off the birth control pill is extremely important for overall health and hormonal balance, and we discuss a few ways and methods to prioritize your health in this stage. We also discuss the importance around ensuring your body has what it needs in general, but especially around the preconception / pregnancy phase of a woman's life. Overall, it's YOUR choice what you do with your body and you deserve to have a better understanding of what makes you feel good, what is supportive to your health and happiness, and how to empower yourself in your own decisions in supporting your health and overall wellbeing. I hope this episode gives you clarity and reinforces the autonomy you deserve to have over your own body.
This week is a bonus episdoe I'm doing for my annual birthday podcast. If you haven't listened to last years it was "10 Mottos I Live By" and this year I am adding on to that with "My Top % Anti-Aging Hacks" I prioritize these 5 things to look and feel younger every year. I talk about exercise, breathwork, importance of oxygen, mitochondrial health, lymphatic system, stretching, detoxing, anti-inflammatory foods, oxidative stress cells, and my obsession with anti-oxidents. And thats just the tip of the iceberg. In my 20's I was diagnosed with Hashimotos, Post Birth Control Syndrome, Celiac and severe Gut Dysbiosis. By 30, I reversed both Automimmune conditions (right as I was being diagnosed for my 3rd), and proved that focusing on these 5 Hacks would be the key to me feeling younger at 36 than I did in my 20's. Hope this episode inspires you and gives you some education that you can do further research on. Don't forget I offer Healthy Power Hours, where we spend 1 hour connecting and playing detective in finding your missing health puzzle pieces. My dear friend Claire Falconer is a literal ray of sunshine and one of the most knowledgeable humans I've come across when it comes to helping women (and couples) get the most out of their hormones and menstrual cycles. Once we deeply understand the phases and signals of a woman's cycle, we can then leverage it not just for conception and pregnancy, but for every aspect of women's daily lives, health and relationships. It starts with busting the modern myths and stigmas around a woman's cycle, and instead working with it to vastly improve physical health, emotional health, fitness & weight loss, sleep quality, energy level, and of course, everything to do with preconception, pregnancy and postpartum health. Claire Falconer is a personal trainer, yoga teacher and health coach who has worked with hundreds of clients all over the world, specializing in women's health, especially hormonal health, preconception, pregnancy and post natal women. In this episode, we're talking about: How men's and women's hormonal cycles are different How a woman's cycle is an indicator of good or poor health The importance of hormone balance How to work with your hormones The phases of a woman's cycle and how to embrace its energetic highs and lows How menstrual cycles affect energy levels, weight loss and sleep quality How to increase chance of conception and pregnancy Tips for a healthier pregnancy How to plan workouts and diet around your cycle Effects of birth control Facts about premenstrual syndrome (PMS) and how to better control symptoms I would love to know your takeaways from this one - a lot of information here about something so common, yet so often misunderstood. Dr. Natalie Crawford discusses Chrissy Teigen and her vulnerability in sharing her fertility journey. Later, she explains the birth control pill and post-birth control syndrome—what it is and why people say it exists. There is a lot of misinformation about the birth control pill, and you should be able to make an informed decision about if it's the right contraceptive for you. Finally, Natalie answers your social media questions during her segment FFS—For Fertility's Sake. This time, all about the pill! I was told the pill causes vitamin deficiencies, and I would need to purchase a post-birth control syndrome cleanse—is that true? What are the side effects and risks of taking the pill? Why did my doctor prescribe birth control after I was diagnosed with an ovarian cyst? Don't forget to ask your questions on Instagram for next week's For Fertility's Sake segment when you see the question box on Natalie's page @nataliecrawfordmd. Well it's been a great run, and I am ready to get cancelled again. LOL. Just Kidding. I know many of the views that I express here will be controversial, but - I cannot stand the thought of my daughter growing up in a world in which women's own standards for themselves are so damn low. TRIGGER WARNING for this episode: we discuss medical rape. There are some key contextual elements that I forgot to mention, so please see those here: Margaret Sanger, founder of Planned Parenthood, was a eugenicist Whistleblowers on Sexual Assault in Gynecology Dayum, I didn't even get into the history of Twilight Sleep + all that good stuff!!! I also want to make an important DISCLAIMER: I fully believe there are cases in which a safe medical DNC is necessary, particularly for the health of the mother. It is imperative that women fight to retain sovereignty over there own bodies from government authorities. This episode simply offers alternative thoughts for the millions of women who do not fall in that category. In this episode, we cover: - this history of obstetrics - issues with gynecology - perspective on birth interventions - does cancer screening really change outcomes? - the history of birth control - Post Birth Control Syndrome - midwives and abortion and the history of abortion Here are some resources to dive deeper: Witches. Midwives + Nurses History of Birth Beyond the Pill Unassisted Birth ** please note that when I reference "midwives", I am referring to traditional, unlicensed midwives. Unfortunately, licensure and midwifery schools have taken many midwives hostage and created an "at-home OB" situation that centers liability instead of women's rights. and more. Please have the courage to come to me with discussions or questions at samanthamz@protonmail.com instead of an online echo chamber. And as always, this podcast is not for everyone.
In this episode, our team talks through the debate: is post-birth control syndrome real? In this episode, we define post-birth control syndrome, talk about our personal experience with birth control and dive into what the internet + TikTok has to say about coming off birth control. ** Spoiler alert there isn't any clinical research on this, which seems to be a common theme in all things related to periods and women's health*** What is a side chat? This is three gals talking through things they have seen on TikTok Have you experienced post-birth control syndrome?! Shoot us an email at hello@funkitwellness.com! The conversation covers the experiences women often have after giving birth, such as hypothyroidism, brain fog, and larger mental health issues due to major hormonal changes. She takes a strong stance on the birth control pill. She shares the ways it causes leaky gut, disrupts thyroid hormones, increases risk of depression, and more. By being off the pill, she says, you can be more aligned with your body. She advocates for fertility awareness, a process in which (with the help of technology) you can track your cycle and the way your hormones manifest themselves in your life, month-to-month. Dr. Brighten first works on healing the body, then the mind, and then on a bigger level, like healing family lineage. In an interesting aside, we also veer in discussion about traumatic brain injuries (we've both had one!) and our immediate and long-term approaches for healing. Our discussion is highly informed and even more encouraging. I think you'll find it really helpful! Here's what Dr. Brighten has to say:On The Pill: “Unfortunately, what we're seeing of the 100 million women worldwide, who have taken the pill, about 60 percent of them are only taking it for symptoms, which is a huge red flag to me. If only 40 percent are taking the pill to prevent pregnancy, then what's up with this other 60 percent? And why are we not practicing root-cause resolution, which we could absolutely do, and just giving women a pill?”On Birth: “For some reason, somewhere along the line, we got it in our head that women should be able to pop out a baby and then just go along their merry way. And at six weeks, everything's recovered and fine. Reality is, is it takes a whole year to really rebuild the nutrients and recover your body.”On Orgasm: “It's a big thing that gets dismissed in women's medicine. Having an orgasm is this mythical unicorn and women aren't that interested in sex. But when you look at the research, there are so many benefits.”Enjoy! Welcome to the Holistic Plastic Surgery Show, where we dive deep into the hottest trends in health, beauty, and cosmetic treatments. I'm Dr. Anthony Youn, America's Holistic Plastic Surgeon. Are you or have you ever been on birth control pills? If so, then this week's podcast is a must-listen. My guest this week is one of the nation's leading naturopathic physicians teaching about how birth control pills can be hazardous to your health. Every day millions of women take birth control pills not just for contraception, but for treating symptoms such as acne and painful periods. Are they really doing their bodies a service, or are they masking issues that will rear their ugly heads years or even decades from now. On this week's podcast we discuss just exactly what is Post Birth Control Syndrome, why women get it, and how to treat it. The symptoms often start four to six months after discontinuing birth control pills, and can have devastating consequences for some women. We reveal other, potentially better alternatives for contraception, and I even call out the guys by giving my perspective on the ideal form of birth control. Please join me and my good friend, Dr. Jolene Brighten, as we reveal how to heal from Post Birth Control Syndrome. Link: https://drbrighten. com/pbcsdiet/
