Hey, bumb-lookers and therapy-needers, welcome to the unsanitized playground of banter we call the Gnar Couch Podshow, episode 156. We start this clusterfuck with Cheef using airtime to try to sell his bike. Classy. Paying homage to true courage, we hear from Ryan Beamish and thefund.org, an organization that helps connect veterans with mountain biking and cares for our nation's critically wounded, ill, and injured service members, veterans, and military families. Hear about their match campaign and all the cool shit they do for veterans. Meanwhile, Boston Rob's flat (or fat?) feet keep him grounded, but his dreams still soar...kind of. Get the lowdown on our spirited escapades at TDS, where the shenanigans are as plentiful as the dust clouds. Beamish, Boston Rob, JP, and Colon Bumb swap stories of mistaken identities, pizza mishaps, and why TDS is a Disneyland for dirtbags. Experience bonding over handlebars as we revel in the therapeutic rush of mountain biking with our service members. And strap on your Bliz sunglasses as Cheef offers you protection from...well, we're still trying to figure that out. We'll also slip into the DMs of man love with a look at Cheef's favorite male yoga influencer, Flow. Lastly, nestle into the fuzzy underbelly of mustaches and get philosophical over "pork swords." Confused? Good. You'll fit right in. Listen to all our podshows. Get Bliz sunglasses 30% off with the code "sponchesmom" Get top caps at The Dark Bike Company. Sonny Mayo started his professional music career in 1995 with the band Snot (Geffen Records) and, in 1998, went on to play in the band Amen (Virgin, Roadrunner Records). Having been in rehab as a teenager, Sonny continued to struggle with alcoholism and drug addiction while touring the world and writing/recording albums. On occasion he was issued ultimatums from his fellow band mates, which would bring brief periods of abstinence, but would inevitably lead to another relapse. Spiraling ever downward, Sonny hit bottom in late 2001.Desperate for sobriety, Sonny sought and received the help he needed in 12 Step fellowships. In January 2002, with less than 30 days sober, he went on his first clean/sober tour in Australia, where Sonny attended 12 Step meetings and began laying the foundation for a whole new experience as a professional musician, and has maintained sobriety ever since. In late 2002 he joined his friend, Wes Geer, as a touring guitarist in the band (hed)P.E. and, in 2005, joined the band Sevendust (TVT, Warner/Asylum Records).Sonny facilitates virtual Rock to Recovery® sessions, serving Air Force Wounded Warriors (AFW2), Semper Fi Fund, and other non profit organizations. He is also the lead recovery coach for R2R Companions, a Breathwork healer, and plays guitar with the Rock to Recovery® band, Sacred Sons.

Join us as we discuss Aaron's journey to faith and how he is working to direct those hurting toward fulfilling their new mission in Christ. In 2015 God had been calling Sgt Q to share the healing he had found on the mission field with his fellow warriors. He had ignored this calling until he had a close friend and fellow Marine go off the grid and feared that he would become part of the 22 veterans that commit suicide every day in America. Sgt Q prayed that his Marine would not become a statistic and that Sgt Royers death need not need to be the catalyst for his ministry. 6 months later Sgt Q led his first team of veterans on Operation Restore Hope. Sgt Royer is still with us and Sgt Q has made it his life's mission to bring veterans to the mission field to promote healing thru a comprehensive spirit filled process. He partners with Homes of Hope a ywam ministry and Semper Fi Fund to accomplish this mission. ” Being a Marine and being a missionary are very similar. 1. You are still working long hours for little pay. 2. You are going to dangerous places most people would never consider going. 3. Everywhere you go there is a certain part of the population that wants to cut your head off. The needed skillset is the same but the mission has changed. We are not going to kill people and destroy buildings, we are going to save souls and build infrastructure.” -Sgt Q https://www.qmissions.org/

Up until that point, Doc had over 225 Combat Patrols. After two full years of full physical, mental, and spiritual recovery which included losing his left leg (below the knee), three toes from his right foot, and three partial fingers from his left hand, Doc returned to the Fleet Marine Force and became one of the few in the Navy to do so. All marathons were completed as an amputee. Doc is planning to be one of the few amputees to ever run a half marathon on all seven continents. Doc has not only had a passion for helping those in uniform but has a passion helping all that need any assistance. He founded the Doc Jacobs Foundation (an official 501(c)3). The Doc Jacobs Foundation (www.docjacobsfoundation.org) funds sports scholarships for kids of military and veteran families. To date, the Doc Jacobs Foundation has funded thirty scholarships totaling $17,610 (an average of $587.00 per scholarship) in sports scholarships and has embarked on a partnership with the San Diego Gulls (AHL Team for the Anaheim Ducks). I've had the opportunity to hear a variety of incredible travel stories since I began podcasting. But my guest today has an adventure story unlike any other! Today on the podcast I have fellow US Marine, Matt Littrell, joining me to share his story about how he traveled overland from Camp Lejeune in North Carolina, to Camp Pendelton in California. All while riding on the back of a horse! Matt joined the Marine Corps in 2001, heading to boot camp just after 9/11. He was then stationed at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton in California and assigned as an Infantryman with 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines. Following his service, he faced many demons in his head and found himself looking at his pistol with thoughts of ending it all. This made him think about the other Veterans out there who might be struggling with the same thing. It was then when he knew that he had to ride a horse across the country. And that he would do it to raise money for the Semper Fi Fund to help his fellow Veterans. From there he started The Long Trail Home Facebook page to showcase his adventure. And in 2014, he and his riding partner Ray set off from the Atlantic coast and began heading west. After seven months on the road, they lead their horses into the water of the Pacific Ocean! Since then, he returned to Colorado and opened the Valhalla Ranch. Where he welcomes other Veterans to come and ride horses and do other activities. In this episode, Matt shares this incredible story, talking about some of the highlights and the low points, and what he is currently doing to continue to serve his fellow Veterans. Bassist/songwriter/producer Bob Madsen and guitarist/songwriter/singer Brian Cline of 41POINT9 discuss their eagerly awaited new album “Mr. Astute Trousers.” For the past year, they've been producing a series of high quality concept videos for songs on the album, with the most recent being ‘The Marine,” which pays tribute to the honor and traditions of the Marine Corps and to the sacrifice embodied by all who serve. All proceeds from this video will be donated to The Semper Fi Fund, an A+ rated charity that provides immediate financial assistance and lifetime support to post 9/11 combat wounded, critically ill and catastrophically injured members of the U.S. Armed Forces and their families. www.41Point9.com
Every job in the military has it's negatives, but even with the high risk involved, many civilians look back on their lives wishing they'd served their country in some capacity. They often glamorize titles like Sniper or Medic, but I don't think anyone would envy the title of Mortuary Affairs Marine. However, that is the job that was given to L. Christian Bussler, and many of the horrors serving in that position followed him after his military career, leading him to drink, and desiring a permanent end to his life. Needing a therapeutic outlet, at the advice of an older combat veteran, Chris started writing, eventually leading to his self-published memoir last year, "No Tougher Duty, No Greater Honor." The book documents Chris being raised in a military household, pursuing a career in the Marines, and the unexpected turn of events when the country went to war during his service. A lot of tragedy endures as you could imagine, but as you hear him speak about in this interview, through the honor he had for the job, he finds a way to pay tribute to fellow service members that has continued to live on. A portion of the proceeds for the book and audio book go to benefit great charities like EOD Warrior Foundation, Semper Fi Fund, and WWIA. “I AM BATTLE COMIC” is Jordan's third feature documentary about being a stand-up comedian. In March of 2016, Jordan went to Afghanistan and Kuwait with four professional comics, including Phoenix native Bob Kubota, to perform for our military men and women stationed there. After arriving stateside, Jordan went to work and interviewed more comics (George Lopez, Dave Attell and more) about their experiences. For Brady, it was a life-changing and humbling journey. 100% of the proceeds from this special night will go to the Semper Fi Fund that supports our military personnel, veterans and their families. Join director Jordan Brady along with standup comedian Bob Kubota and Matthew Earl Jones, Director of the Arizona Office for Film and Digital Media, for a fun Q&A session after the film. The Semper Fi Fund provides immediate financial assistance and lifetime support to Post-9/11 wounded, critically ill and injured members of all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces and their families, ensuring that they have the resources they need during their recovery and transition back to their communities. Since establishing the Semper Fi Fund in 2004, they have issued 138,000 grants, totaling more than $144 million in assistance to over 18,000 of our heroes and their families.
