Travel Gluten Free Podcast Episode 96 COVID Disney Travel Update, Star Wars Galaxy Edge and Gluten Free Disney DisneyWorld - Perhaps the Safest Place in Florida during the COVID Pandemic In this episode, I chat about Disney Star Wars experience, the new COVID restrictions at Disney theme parks, Disney apps you can use to enhance your Disney experience, and the level of service Disney offers to those of us who are gluten-free or have specialty diets. Amidst the most significant COVID numbers yet seen, with over 15,000 cases in one day last week, the state of Florida alone has recorded more COVID cases than other countries! Even though it's tempting to go and actually get a seat on Rise of the Resistance, those epidemic numbers are way too high for me to be comfortable to fly to Florida. I will say that with all the sanitization, social distancing, and touchless services Disney has in place, a Disney theme park is most likely the place you'd be least likely to catch COVID in Florida. I'm a Disney fan by default, as when they purchased Star Wars, I became a Disney fan only because I love Star Wars. When I lived in Florida, I was a short 45-minute drive away from DisneyWorld. Our family would often go to DisneyWorld on the resident pass, which, 15 years ago, was only $99. Of course, there were blackout dates, but honestly, I wouldn't want to go during the holidays that were blacked out anyway as it would be super packed with people, and that's just not enjoyable for me. Creating a Disney Account Online If you're planning on going to Disney, you'll first want to open a Disney account for yourself online https://disneyworld.disney.go.com Next, create an account for each person in your party, then link people who are traveling with you. If someone in your travel group already has an account, do not create another account for them. Simply email them an invitation to join your group! Create all your plans on your Disney account and make plans for the people in your party! Reserve Fastpass up to 30 days ahead of time. Now, you can create dinner reservations, reserve FastPasses, buy merchandise, and book your Disney stay all from one place! Get FastPasses for your entire group, or make dinner reservations for each individual person. If you want to divide your group into two - no problem! You can put only individuals that want to go on a ride or to a restaurant on that reservation. Additionally, you can change your reservation online 24 hours ahead of time on the app or on your desktop. Of course, Disney makes it super easy to separate you from your money, it's what they are good at. Using the Disney App to Enhance Your Vacation Experience Next, download the My Disney Experience app to view all your park plans including hotel, dinner reservations, order meals ahead of time, access PhotoPass service, view park maps, see wait lines at different rides, find character greetings, view showtimes, access FastPass reservations created with your Disney account. When waiting in line, I recommend downloading the Disney Play app to your phone. Log in to your account and play a game that is based on your location in the park! Most games are two players, so you’ll need a person in your group to play with on the app. FastPass and FastPass Plus at Disney Fastpass can be reserved up to 30 days in advance and gives you a shorter line to wait in when at any of the parks. Fastpass + charges a fee and puts you at the front of the line. With COVID modifications, Fastpass + isn’t available right now as they are using social distancing with wait lines, and they are using the FastPass+ space for their regular line queue. Note: You can get three FP for one park per day. From the Disney website: “Follow these quick steps and you’ll be riding the fast lane to fun in no time: Add people to your Family & Friends list to enable you to reserve access to FastPass+ attractions and entertainment for them. Link your vacation package, link your tickets or link your annual pass to your Disney account. If you purchased online, the package, tickets or passes may have been linked automatically. Reserve access to FastPass+ attractions and entertainment for each day that you have a valid theme park ticket linked to your Disney account. Visit the theme park on the day that you have FastPass+ selections. Go to the FastPass+ entrance or viewing area for the selected attraction or show during the designated arrival window time.” “After you redeem your initial 3 selections, use the app or head to a kiosk to make another selection—even if you’re in a different park from your first choices! Valid theme park admission is required. FastPass+ attractions and entertainment experiences, the number of selections you can make, and available arrival windows are limited. Making advance FastPass+ selections requires online registration.” Disney’s Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge The ultimate Star Wars experience for any fan, if you were going to do one thing at Disney, this would be it! Packed full of fun and exciting rides, gift shops, and dining experiences (if you’re not gluten-free), the Star Wars experience will blow your mind! Listen in to find out more details about why this experience is so amazing. Oscar from The Peaceful Thrillseekers podcast agrees with me about the high level of coolness that the Disney team has put together for Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge. “The thing that makes it so spectacular is the cast members. I think the cast members have done an amazing job with Galaxy’s Edge. I think that if it weren’t for them, the experience wouldn’t be as special as it is.” Listen in to more of Oscar’s review on Episode #95 Disney Know Before You Go COVID Travel Update First, you must reserve your time at any one of the four Disney theme parks that are currently open through the Disney Park Pass Reservation System. “To enter a park, both a park reservation and valid admission for the same park on the same date are required for each person in your party ages three and up (limit one park per day Disney is controlling the number of people in the park to maintain social distancing).” FastPass+ service is suspended as they are using additional queue space to control capacity and maintain physical distancing. We will automatically cancel existing FastPass+ selections and share any future updates on the service at a later date. There are selected resorts Disney has opened to guests. Disney Springs shopping opened in June. Remember that COVID is changing Disney’s offerings, so make sure to check their website for more information. Make sure to view Disney’s new COVID precautions page before you make reservations to the park. Here is a summary of precautions Disney is taking to keep everyone safe: Mandatory use of face masks Sanitizing rides Seating guests six feet apart Hand washing stations located throughout the park Physical and social distancing Modified experiences Temperature screenings are mandated at areas throughout the park Disney’s disclaimer: “An inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 exists in any public place where people are present. COVID-19 is an extremely contagious disease that can lead to severe illness and death. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, senior citizens and Guests with underlying medical conditions are especially vulnerable.” Journey with Travel Gluten Free Grab the Guide to Traveling Gluten Free Get the BEST all-natural gluten-free travel cosmetics at Lemongrass Spa! Dispodopolis - Disneyland, Walt Disney World, and everything in between
This month on Dispodopolis, we discuss Star Wars Land: Galaxy's Edge: Black Spire Outpost. We had been waiting anxiously until our trip this spring to finally experience the new land created for the world of Star Wars. I have waited 42 years to be able to walk into this environment. Ever since the creation of this galaxy appeared on screen in 1977, Generation X has been dreaming of a time when they could become apart of that world. This is probably not Fiona's favorite subject and she seems to be clinging to her latest obsession with the Muppets, but don't worry we have a great conversation about the Star Wars: Galaxy Edge as well as the Muppets. Before we talk about the new Star Wars Land, we decide which position on the new attraction Millennium Falcon: Smuggler's Run we like or want to try the most. You can choose from Pilot, Gunner, or Engineer. Recorded to release on April 30th, 2020.

Well do we have a surprise for you all this week, oh my goodness, you are getting a bumper edition with a special guest appearance. Now if I was nasty I would just leave it at that, but cliffhangers lead to binge watching an entire season normally. So, in a sense of harmonious respect we are only building the tension with this prattle, it is less irritating apparently. Honestly though don’t you just hate it when those jokers asking questions on trivia shows drag it out then go to a commercial break? We’ll be right back after this message….Okay, so down to business, first up is our special guest Shaun from Comics2Movies fresh back from San Diego Comic-Con… Yep and he has some awesome news for us also. Who did he meet, what did he do, what has he got planned for us? You will need to listen in to find out.Next up we have the Professor with news about a monumental stuff up due to ambiguity in the terms of a contract from Valve relating to Steam. Yep, due to some over sight or sheer stupidity a detected vulnerability to Steam was ignored and the researchers involved were treated pretty badly. Which let’s face it is kind of the dumbest thing you can do right. But if you would like to know more we have it, and you will laugh at some of the comments involved in this topic. We did. Then we have Buck with the development of a new process of welding ceramics that has major implications for all kind of endeavors. This process means that the component technologies for everything ranging from pace makers to an endless variety of circuitry can now be ceramic. This is espically awesome, this is another of those ground breaking moments that might slip by unnoticed by some people. But the changes that will result from this in years to come will be immense. Then we have the DJ to talk about the reboot of G.I.Joe to help cash in further on an already established brand, or is it? That is a question that arises, similar to the recent reboot of Ghost In The Shell: Arise. Like what we did there, cool huh, and no the Professor didn’t write that Segway, honestly. But this is certainly a moment when having to crusty old blokes on the show is interesting. We round out with the usual shout outs, remembrances, birthdays, and events of interest. As always take care of yourselves, look out for each other and stay hydrated.EPISODE NOTES:Valve turning away researcher - https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2019/08/valve-says-turning-away-researcher-reporting-steam-vulnerability-was-a-mistake/Lasers can weld ceramics - https://www.technology.org/2019/08/26/lasers-can-weld-ceramics-without-a-furnace/G.I Joe comics relaunch - https://www.bleedingcool.com/2019/08/25/hasbro-vp-promises-new-gi-joe-series-wont-replace-larry-hamas-real-american-hero/Games currently playingBuck– Albion Online - https://albiononline.com/en/homeProfessor– Rainbow Six Siege - https://rainbow6.ubisoft.com/siege/en-us/home/index.aspxDJ– Warframe - https://www.warframe.com/landingOther topics discussedRobert Kirkman (The Walking Dead creator)- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_KirkmanTitans crew member killed during rehearsal- https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/tv/news/titans-death-crew-member-dies-car-stunt-netflix-dc-universe-a9011826.htmlMayans M.C. cast- J. Disney has grown over the years. The amounts of theme parks, attractions, and events can get overwhelming. We take a quick look at the history of Disney's MGM/Hollywood Studios and some of the early attractions along with some new and future attractions such as Toy Story Land and the upcoming Star Wars Galaxy Edge!
Just over 30 years ago, April 30th, 1989, John Ritter introduced us to the concept of the Disney MGM Studios, a new theme park that was a fully functioning television and movie production studio providing you a peek behind the scenes at moviemaking magic where you could even be part of the action. If you're into Disney history, the 90-minute special is a must watch – You can catch the full episode here Walt Disney World celebrated the 30th anniversary of the opening for Disney Studios earlier this month. The festivities included a cavalcade of Disney characters on Hollywood Boulevard led by none other than Mickey and Minnie Mouse. Mickey and Minnie introduced us to the Disney Hollywood Studios new logo and limited time merchandise, food, and drinks commemorating the 30th Anniversary. It’s hard to believe that when the studios opened, MGM Studios was a half day park, a side trip from Epcot where you could learn how movies were made. Fast forward 30 years and Disney Hollywood Studios is about to become the epicenter of Walt Disney World. With the opening of Star Wars Galaxy Edge this August, the 14 acre immersive land will be followed by Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railroad in early 2020 completing the park-wide transformation that includes Toy Story Land, Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy, An Incredible Celebration on Pixar Place, and Disney Junior Dance Party and open for summer 2019! For the park’s 30th Anniversary celebration, Disney announced the addition of a table service restaurant, Roundup Rodeo BBQ, in Toy Story Land and an array of Toy Story 4 pop-up merchandise locations. The evening finished with the premiere of “Wonderful World of Animation”, the all-new projection show in Center Stage. Projected onto the Chinese Theater, the show chronicles the journey through 90 years of Disney and Pixar animations and includes blasts from the past and rarely seen characters as well as new favorites and classic stories. The show replaces the “Movie Magic” projection show, which you can find in SamsDisneydairy Episode #99 – The Wonderful World of Animation will lead to the always popular “Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular”.

Last year for Christmas I focused on the current, SamsDisneyDiary 12 days of Christmas, featuring 12 different Disney parks’ Christmas events covering Florida and California parks. This year, we are going back in time. Back 30 years to be exact, to the 1987 Walt Disney World Very Merry Christmas Day Parade. Originally aired 30 years ago on Christmas morning, the concept was very similar to today; a preview of what’s new at Walt Disney World and what to expect in the next few years. A 90 minute long commercial so to speak. And in 1987, it was the dawn of the Michael Eisner “Disney Decade”, the beginning of a massive decade long expansion of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. Get more details at www.samsdisneydairy.com look for Episode #101. I don’t know about you, but I love looking back at these time capsules; a look into the parks, what’s new, what’s on the horizon some of which made it and some that didn’t. It’s also interesting that after 30 years, the conversation continues. While we watch this year’s Christmas day “parade” (if you want to call it a parade), the conversation will be centered on the new ToyStoryland, opening in 2018 and Star Wars Galaxy Edge opening in 2019. 1987 marked the 5th annual Christmas day parade from Walt Disney World originally airing on Christmas day 1987. I hope you enjoy this look back 30 years as much as I did. Be sure to subscribe to the youtube channel for all the latest.
