A viral TikTok about fish aggregation devices drifting into marine protected areas got Andrew thinking about a topic he hasn't covered in a while: ghost nets. In this episode, he breaks down what ghost nets actually are, the scientific term for them (ALDFG, or abandoned, lost, or otherwise discarded fishing gear), and why they're a growing, well-documented problem from the ocean surface all the way down to the deep seafloor. Andrew walks through what the peer-reviewed research shows: entanglement patterns across whales, seals, sea turtles, and coral reefs, a personal diving story off Big Cayman where he watched a ghost net get cut free from a loggerhead sea turtle, and the real economic and technical challenges holding back solutions like ropeless fishing gear and biodegradable nets. He also covers where progress is actually happening, from derelict net removal programs to circular economy recycling models. This isn't a "just stop fishing" episode. Andrew makes the case that ghost nets are a solvable, adaptable problem, but one that needs more research funding, cheaper technology, and stronger enforcement to get there. Takeaways from this episode: Ghost nets (ALDFG) are found from the ocean surface to the deep seafloor, and they keep catching and killing marine life for as long as they remain in the water. The animals most affected span whales, seals, sea turtles, and coral reef species, not just fish. Solutions like ropeless gear and biodegradable nets are real and improving, but cost and fisher adoption remain the biggest barriers. Stopping fishing altogether isn't a realistic fix. The path forward is better gear design, more funding, and stronger enforcement. Listeners can support the fisheries and programs that are already investing in gear-loss prevention and removal. How big of a deal is it that 220 million Americans have had voter data compromised by the Chinese? There are currently only about 205 million registered American voters! What this means is that over the course of several years the Chinese successfully extracted effectively every registered voter's information along with 15 to 20 million people who no longer are eligible to vote (many deceased).
Matty's away so it's "next-man-up". This week, Fox Sports' very own Dan Ginnane is in. Between them, Dan and Coops have 372 NRL matches and 38 Tests under their belts- so you know the analysis is going to be spot on! This week, a new, but somehow old coach at the Dragons and the fellas break down all the action as we head into the pointy end of the season.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Lately, my kids have been watching a lot of TV. More than I'd like to admit. And for a while, I let myself spiral about it. What kind of mom lets her kids zone out on screens all day? What is that doing to them? But then I caught myself, because I've learned that there's a difference between self-confronting and shame-spiraling. And, once I stopped the shame-spiral, I reminded myself that our family is going through a hard time right now, and if some extra screens are going to support us through it, that's not the end of the world. What our home needs most right now is compassion. My kids need an extra dose of compassion, and so do I. That's what gets us through hard times. This week's episode is a recording from a small group coaching call I did back in 2019, with about twenty women who were in the thick of hard seasons with their kids. We talk about how to support your kids through struggles, and how you can support yourself, too. In this episode, you'll hear:

We are officially into the second half of the baseball season, with plenty of games in the books, and it feels great to be BACK! This episode is packed with Takeaways and Quirkjians, led by the Boston Red Sox. Tim Kurkjian is still trying to figure out exactly what’s happening with this team — because somehow, the story looks completely different than it did just three weeks ago. James Wood and the Nationals/Athletics series have us scratching our heads, while Victor Martinez and Logan Webb also make their way into this week’s Quirkjians. For On This Date in Baseball History, we take a look back at Gaylord Perry and Hank Aaron. Jeff brings up an interesting question about Hank Aaron’s final home run that you may have wondered about too. Stephen Strasburg shares a birthday with our friend and former guest Dan Shaughnessy, and Tim shares a story from a recent speech Dan gave that had him laughing so hard he was nearly on the floor. Which makes us wonder… didn’t Tim Kurkjian already know every baseball story ever told? Turns out, not this one! We also spin the Wheel of Kurkjian, so be sure to send in your suggestions on our website. Finally, Team Tim is becoming more like Team Shannon, thanks to a genius idea from a member of our family. As Jeff mentioned during the show, please subscribe or follow wherever you watch or listen — it helps us out more than you know. And if you have a moment to leave a rating and review, we’d greatly appreciate it. Thanks so much for watching, listening, and being a part of our family! A Parenting Resource for Children’s Behavior and Mental Health
If you've ever felt the pressure to be the perfect parent, what my Italian mother taught me about parenting without perfection will remind you that love, connection, and repair matter far more than getting every moment right. Dr. Roseann Capanna-Hodge shares how her Regulation First Parenting™ approach helps families move beyond perfectionism to raise emotionally resilient, regulated kids. Trying to be the perfect parent is exhausting—and it may actually be making parenting harder. If you're constantly second-guessing yourself, feeling guilty after difficult moments, or wondering if you're getting it all wrong, you're not alone. This episode explores why parenting without perfection creates calmer parents, more resilient kids, and stronger family connections. Why do I feel like I'm failing as a parent? Many parents believe they have to respond perfectly every time. But chasing perfection doesn't calm your child—it overwhelms your nervous system. When you're carrying the pressure to "get it right," you're more likely to become reactive instead of regulated. Your child doesn't need perfection. They need a parent who keeps showing up with love and connection.Key takeaways:Perfectionism increases stress—not connection. You don't have to get every moment right.Consistency matters more than perfection. Can apologizing after I lose my temper help my child?Yes. One hard moment doesn't define your relationship. What matters most is what happens next. Repairing after conflict teaches children that relationships can survive mistakes, emotions can be repaired, and love remains steady.Imagine snapping during homework time. Coming back later to say, "I wish I handled that differently," helps your child feel emotionally safe instead of ashamed.Remember:Repair builds trust.Connection grows after difficult moments, too.Modeling accountability teaches resilience.Yelling less and staying calm isn't about being perfect—it's about having the right tools.Join the Dysregulation Insider VIP list and get your FREE Regulation Rescue Kit, designed to help you handle oppositional behaviors without losing it.Download it now at www.drroseann.com/newsletterDoes perfectionism increase anxiety in kids?Perfectionism often creates pressure that children absorb. When home feels like everything has to be done exactly right, kids can become fearful of making mistakes. Instead of building confidence, perfection can fuel anxiety and make it harder for children to problem-solve independently.Focus on this instead:Create emotional safety first.Celebrate effort over flawless performance.Behavior is communication.

#1025 | Adam and Ed pick over United's pre-season defeat to Wrexham in Helsinki. Can we learn anything from 45 minutes of action? At least there was a first look at new signing Andrey Santos. Then an XI made up of reserves played out an entertaining second half without finding the net. Then there's a crazy match for third place in the World Cup, with England beating France 6-4. Kobbie Mainoo was injured and didn't feature. The only outfield English player not to get any minutes at the tournament. Finally, with Morgan Rogers moving to Chelsea for an eye-watering £117 million, can United find any value for money as they search for a third midfield signing and other players to fill out the squad. 00:00 Open 00:51 Catching Up with Adam 04:07 England, Helsinki and United's Preseason Opener 08:25 Takeaways 12:08 Transfer Market Outlook 15:23 Coaching Staff Questions 22:20 World Cup Third-Place Playoff and England Review 49:55 Transfer Fees and Chelsea's Spending If you are interested in supporting the show and accessing a weekly exclusive bonus episode, check out our Patreon page or subscribe on Apple Podcasts. Hey, Family Brand community! We are so glad to be back in the studio. It probably doesn't feel like we've been gone since we recorded a few episodes ahead of time, but after spending the last few weeks traveling through Croatia and Turkey, we're excited to sit down and share some of the biggest lessons we brought home with us. Every trip has a way of changing us, and this one was no exception. Our first stop was Croatia, where we hosted another Family Brand cruise with our good friend Antony and the Solomori team. If Croatia has been sitting on your travel bucket list, consider this your sign to move it to the top. It's absolutely beautiful, but what impacted us most wasn't just the scenery—it was the culture. Everywhere we went, we saw families making time for one another, preserving traditions, sharing stories, and simply slowing down. Meals weren't rushed. Conversations stretched for hours. We even learned a Croatian word that quickly became the theme of our trip: pomalo—which simply means take it easy, slow down, don't rush. It became a reminder that maybe we're not meant to race through life quite as fast as we often do. Then we landed in Turkey, and talk about a complete shift. Everything felt unfamiliar—in the best possible way. From hearing the call to prayer echo across Istanbul to visiting beautiful mosques, trying a traditional Turkish bath, navigating a language barrier, and experiencing a culture completely different from our own, we found ourselves having conversations as a family that we never would have had otherwise. It challenged some assumptions, expanded our understanding of another faith and culture, and reminded us how valuable it is to step outside what's comfortable. We left with an even greater appreciation for the kindness we experienced everywhere we went and for how much there is to learn simply by being curious. By the time we made it home, each of us had something different we were bringing back. For some of us, it was a renewed commitment to slow down and prioritize family. For others, it was a deeper appreciation for home, or even a desire to start reading physical books again instead of always listening to audiobooks. More than anything, this trip reminded us that growth doesn't just happen through travel—it happens anytime we're willing to be open to new people, different perspectives, and meaningful conversations. Whether your next adventure is across the world or simply across town, we hope it stretches you in all the best ways. Hit play to hear the full conversation! We dive much deeper into the stories, the laughs, the culture, and the lessons that simply can't all fit into a blog post. P.S. We're here to help you build your own Family Brand, one episode at a time. So go ahead, hit play, and let's grow together!
