Prepare yourself for a rollicking ride as I go one on one with the hilarious Shane Rogers. A showman to his core, Shane has been making audiences across the US double over with laughter. But, his connection with music is equally potent and profound, from a deeply emotional playlist that takes him on an emotive roller coaster, to his teenage tether to Bruce Springsteen's music. Be prepared to be swept up in a whirlwind tour through Shane's music library and the powerful memories each song can spark. Shane's life story is anything but ordinary, having grown up performing acrobatics in a traveling circus at the tender age of ten. Come along as we delve into the highs and lows of circus life, including close encounters with wild animals and life lessons about respect for all creatures. Transitioning into music and comedy, Shane also touches on his rock band days, the surprising lack of groupies compared to comedy, and a dance party that taught him about the joy of living in the moment. We'll also give you a sneak peek into Shane's wild teenage years, his brushes with heartbreak, and the guilty pleasures that make him tick. The joys and challenges of parenting, his pet peeves, and the emotional powerhouse of Kenny Roger's 'Gambler' also make an appearance in our conversation. Wrapping up with a sobering discussion on drug use among teenagers and the power of music to send important messages, this episode promises to be an engaging, insightful, and downright hilarious journey through life, laughter, and the power of music. So, grab your headphones and get ready for a laughter-filled ride with Shane Rogers! Words of wisdom? Get good sleep. Insomnia is being afraid that you are not going to sleep. Shane struggles with this. Hear his words. Move forward with the circumstances. The Truth About Shane Rogers::) He grew up in a traveling circus (seriously). After spending ages 9-14 flipping and tumbling across the country, he quit the circus life, picked up a guitar, and jumped right back on stage, performing with a variety of bands on the West Coast. In 2012 he was recruited into standup by a comedy-club manager and has now performed at some of America's premiere venues including The Comedy Store, Cobb's Comedy Club, The San Jose Improv, and The San Francisco Punch Line. During the pandemic, he partnered with long-time friend and collaborator Duncan MacEwan, and together they host the popular Midnight Facts for Insomniacs podcast. Bernie catches up with Ira Kaufman at joebucsfan.com to talk about Bruce Springsteen kicking off his farewell tour Wednesday night in Tampa. Ira gives the Boss a B+ for his concert as he lamented a couple of exclusions in the set list and a lack of interaction with the crowd. Bernie and Ira also share some of their favorite Springsteen songs and memories.
Bernie is broadcasting from Friendly's Sports Bar and Grill at 3971 Bayless Ave. in south St. Louis County. Bernie tells the story about the time he missed out on a chance to meet Bruce Springsteen backstage after not noticing Bob Costas trying to get his attention at a concert. Bernie then looks into SLU's disappointing loss at Fordham Tuesday as being indicative of why Travis Ford will go down as a good, but not great coach. He compares that contest to many of Mizzou's shortcomings over the past decade.

Hey Fried Fans, This week’s #straightfromcait episode is the answer to a fan question (I love those, so if you have one that YOU want answered, shoot me an email at cait@caitdonovan.com with the subject: FAN QUESTION and I’ll get to it, it usually takes me about a month to get the episode out and it’s so much fun for me to give you exactly what you need. Here’s the Q:So, the holidays are coming up and if you’re the boss of a department it’s kinda expected that everyone else can take vacation time around the holidays but not you, because someone has to be on deck. So this means, year after year, you work the week of Thanksgiving and the week of Xmas. How do you juggle the expectation that if you’re the boss, your needs come second to your subordinate without getting burnt?OK, my friend. Let’s break this down a little. First, we need to look at the assumptions in this Q. You state: it’s ‘kinda expected’ that everyone else can take vacation time around the holidays but not you.Is this 100% true or is this a story that you told yourself because you took the responsibility on because YOU learned at some point in your life that this is how you think it ‘should’ be (if you missed the episode on shoulding, head back a few weeks and listen in, it’s a good one). You start juggling this expectation by checking yourself. Use these Q’s: Where did this expectation come from? Why do you believe it? What actions have you taken as the boss in previous years that may lead you to believe this is true? What actions have you taken as the boss in previous years that may lead your team to believe that this is true? The basic facts of the matter are this: your needs DON’T come second to your team’s needs. But now, you’re going to have to change the rules of the game on them and you’ll have to expect some blowback. Here’s how it goes:First, you need to decide on a new system. Are you going to rotate the holidays within your team, so one person takes thanksgiving and the other xmas? Is one person going to get the whole year of holidays and then the next 2 or 3 years off (depending on the size of your team) or is there a better solution that you see? I can’t tell you what all the options are without knowing more specifics about the business and the team, but suffice it to say, there’s a better system than leaving all the responsibility eggs in the leaders basket.Second, you need to decide how to present the new system - WITHOUT EMOTION and WITHOUT MENTIONING that you’ve done it in the past for years and years and now you need a break. YOU’RE THE BOSS - you make the rules. Turning yourself into a victim for working the past years will make whoever gets this year’s holidays feel like THEY are the victim. So, it might sound something like this:Hi Everyone, The holidays are coming up and the system for who works the holidays is changing this year. We are going to start rotating who works the week of Thanksgiving and Xmas so that everyone has the opportunity to take real time off during the holidays. This Thanksgiving will be (team member a) and Xmas will be (team member b). If you need to switch with each other, that’s no problem - just be sure that the communication is clear and the person who will be responsible for those days is available. If you’re going to make any changes amongst each other, please let me know by the end of next week. Thank you! :)Third, you actually have to have this conversation. Open your zoom room and get chatting. Remember to be as neutral as possible, this is NOT an emotional conversation and it will work better if it’s presented that way. Prepare yourself for discord and blowback. Changing the rules in the middle of the game will be met with some grunting and disapproval. That’s okay. Brene Brown and Oprah remind us that we cannot live brave lives without disappointing some people. They will survive. And you’ll get that break that you need and deserve.I hope that was helpful!Lately, there have been a lot of questions about boundaries, balancing being vs. doing, handling energy preservation, and energy replenishing in your day to day lives. I do have an online course on this called Build Better Boundaries but what I’ve been hearing from you is that you want a live version of this course so that we can dig a little deeper and that you can have support along the way.I’m listening and we’re starting Nov 15th. The class is 8 weeks long, and we’ll break for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years - so our finish date will be late January. I think this is the PERFECT time to work on boundaries because we’re in, as I like to call it, BOUNDARY SEASON! Doing this class now ensures that you start next year with some bonus energy, some skills for replenishing your own energy sans caffeine, and everything you need to create killer boundaries. The link to join is here: https://friedtheburnoutpodcast.com/post/sfc-boss-needs - I can’t wait to have this experience with you.XOXOC

Giuseppe Masseria aka 'Joe the Boss' became the most powerful figure in the New York City mafia during the years of Prohibition. He was an old world Italian mafioso who sought to control all five boroughs. However, this lust for territory would lead him into the largest turf war that NYC had ever seen when Salvatore Maranzano decided to go to the mattresses to defend his Sicilian heritage. author Joe Joyce reads from his thriller 'Echoland'. Recorded in front of a live audience in the Central Library on 3 October, 2013 as part of its 'Crime in the City: Crime and History' series. Echoland is set in Dublin in June 1940. Young lieutenant Paul Duggan, part of G2, the army's intelligence division is ordered to investigate a suspected German spy. His politician uncle is also making demands of Paul. His daughter Nuala has gone missing and he is desperate to keep the fact from the papers and the Blueshirts. Joe also spoke of how the rich history of Dublin during 'the Emergency' - the period of the Second World War - a time full of uncertainty and turbulence inspired the writing of this great new read. Joe Joyce is author of 'The Boss', 'The Trigger Man', 'The Guinnesses: the untold story of Ireland's most successful family' and 'The Tower'. His most recent book is 'Echoland' was published in August 2013.

On September 23, 2016 our friend Tanya Hubbard past away after several years of cancer. Her favorite performer was the "Boss". We will play back 10 of Springsteen's greatest hits tonight. Mrs. Hubbard was a school teacher for 37 years and then worked part time as part time literacy coach. She started a grass roots fundraiser called "Warm Waldo" that helped an enormous amount of famalies thru the years. She has been a mentor for me as I tried to help with fundraisers of my own called, Friends of Warm Waldo that I ran with my friend Lisa Elkins. This has been by far the hardest show to get ready for because of the love and admiration for Tanya. I hope and pray this show would be something she would be proud of. Actually as I am writing that last sentence, I could picture her saying, "Now Robby have some confidence in yourself", with her epic smile. Rest in Peace and thank you for fighting to stay with us for so long. We all love you!
The Boss A titan of industry is sent to prison after she's caught for insider trading. When she emerges ready to rebrand herself as America's latest sweetheart, not everyone she screwed over is so quick to forgive and forget. There’s no question McCarthy is one of the best comic actors around. Her timing is impeccable, her charm a fascinating counter to her signature I’ll-do-anything gumption. And yes, I, like so many others, do get a kick out of the fact that this loveable force of nature doesn’t look like the stereotypical movie star. When Melissa is great (Bridesmaids, Spy), she’s amazing. But when the material around her doesn’t match her talent, watch out. Sadly, that’s the case with The Boss.
