It is a medical condition that causes paralyzation of one side of the body. The doctors detected this diagnoses when I was just an infant. The doctor told my mom I would never be able to walk and she should get me comfortable in a wheelchair. I share my favorite takeaways and reflections from Ep. 52 with Staci Bartley and Ep. 53 with Tina Ginn, exploring the importance of learning from the past and having the forethought for preparing for the future. Life is messy, and we can learn from our messes, and we can clean them up, too. If we could learn how to re-frame the challenges of our lives by asking ourselves better questions, I do believe we would spend far less time emotionally suffering. Staci, through early teen pregnancy and three marriages, she's learned this the hard way. And, perhaps that is the way? The mishaps, hurdles, and pivots that we find ourselves in are a part of the journey. But, I guess the better question is: Why does it take so many of us so long to get the memo? Just as it takes us a while to realize that messes are a part of life and that we are capable of learning and cleaning them up and preventing future ones, so too, it takes us to learn a little too late how ill-prepared we are for tragedy or disaster. Tina, like many grievers, has found her passion in her pain. What started out as a career as a financial advisor, where she was well-versed in risk management, morphed into helping others prepare for the worst in their lives. Having lived through a forest fire evacuation order, the quick decline of a dear friend's health and death due to cancer, a traumatic car accident which later led to losing her job, to a subsequent divorce and estrangement with her children, Tina has learned the importance of connection and preparedness. She brings her passion for helping people become prepared for the worst. She recognizes that the last thing people want to worry about, when tragedy strikes or when there are moments to make decisions, are the logistics of their lives. Through her app, Your Backup Plan, she helps individuals get their lives in order so that, when tragedy or nature does strike, your life is in the palm of your hand. This not only makes your family's lives easier if something happens to you but also your own if it's you at the center of the unfortunate experience. Tina says we shouldn't wait until someone is dying, or we are dying, to prepare; by then, it's too late. Additionally, the conversations you want to be having in these moments do not include the bills that need to be paid and how they're paid. Also for example, where social media passwords are, what to do with a beloved collection, or a last will and testament. These issues and logistics can be documented in advance so that anyone close can pick up the pieces with less stress. Our interview is Phil Mew's recollection of 1976 onward to having his parents pass away suddenly in a 10 week period to what next. Feelings as a child both him and his brother were under the age of 10 and his older brother had to get out of the house and help out too. The Orphan Boys in 1976, the hottest summer for a generation and life was perfect for the two young brothers Philip and Roger. They lived an idyllic life on a farm in the picturesque dales of the north of England. With their days spent on the farm, playing on Tarzan swings, building dens and swimming outside, their perfect existence was plunged into darkness when tragedy struck the family. Within a ten week period, the boys lost their parents and were left orphans. This is the story of Philip and his brother Roger, how their grandparents stepped in to bring them up and how a family and community came together to deal with the consequences that the devastation of death had left behind. Tina Ginn, author of the book "wow, woman of worth" with her story "In the blink of an eye" shares her experience surviving a traumatic road crash 4 years ago very, when she was driving to get home, very close to her neighbourhood. She was following her daughter that was driving in front of her in her own car and she witnessed the frightening possibility of her daughter almost being crashed. Instead it was her that received the impact. To this day, she says that if her daughter was the one that crashed, the story would be devastating. She sees it as a blessing that it was her car that was hit instead. She takes us through how the accident happened, the very first moments in the ambulance and on her way to the hospital. 4 days later she was back to work, trying to get back to her normal self, with broken ribs, a broken foot and a broken finger. Although in pain, she did try to act like her old self until she realised that she wasn't anymore. She then went off work for 7 months and watched her life transform.Tina has been working on a very interesting project "My back up plan" and I highly reccomend you check it out becasue it can save you and your family from a lot of frustration. "When we lose someone we love, we must learn not to live without them, but to live with the love they left behind" What's been lost, this Pandemic has been increasing since January 2020. One word to sum up the Pandemic is loss. Loss of freedom, loss of jobs, or careers, loss of human contact, loss of hugs, and loss of loved ones. How we cope with loss has not been easy this past year. Each culture or religion has different ways to cope with loss which has really put a wrench in the "normal ways" of both death, and celebrating loss. Which will come back to bite us in the a*s in year's to come! And of course there are different losses. AMANDA, a certified Emotional Wellness Counselor, EFT practitioner and speaker that focuses on emotional awareness and mastery, grief and loss, and radical self-chronic and mental illness and strives to be an ally, advocate, and accomplice, working to a create a world more accessible, just equitable and compassionate for all!
