Venture capital funding into Irish technology SMEs in the third quarter fell by 38% to 190m from 309m in the same period last year, according to the Irish Venture Capital Association in its Venture Pulse survey, published today in association with William Fry. The IVCA said that third-quarter data "raised alarm bells" and that funding across almost most levels "fell significantly". "Following a strong first half, overall funding for the nine months to end September 2023 just about held up, with an increase of 6% to just over 1 billion, compared to the same period last year," commented Denise Sidhu, chairperson of the Irish Venture Capital Association. "However, the Irish third quarter data raises alarm bells, as the value of deals across all sizes fell significantly, with the exception of those under 1m." She added that the number of transactions fell by over a quarter (26%) compared to the same period last year. As an example, she pointed to the value of deals in the third quarter in the 3-5m range, which fell by over a third (34%) to 193.8m compared to almost 300m in the same time last year. The value of deals in the 5-10m range dropped by over three quarters (76%). Sarah-Lane Larkin, director general, IVCA, said that another worrying indicator was that the value of international VC investment in the third quarter fell by over two-thirds (69%) or by over 120m. "The reliance on international VC investors at a time when US venture capital and private equity investment has slowed significantly emphasises the need for Ireland Inc. to build local private funding sources in order to combat global dependence and headwinds." The largest deals in the third quarter were Ocuco (Software) 60m; Shorla Oncology (Life Sciences) 32m; UrbanVolt (Environment) 26m and ProVerum (Life Sciences) 15m. Sectors most successful in raising funding in the nine months to the end of September 2023 included Envirotech or clean energy, which raised 580m or 50% of total VC investment, followed by Life Sciences at 157m (14%); Software 92m (7.9%); AI & machine learning 88m (7.6%); and Fintech 82m (7%). Poverty is a great motivator for many people to get their ass in gear. For most, it has become a mindset they've taken with them well into their lives, never progressing beyond where they started. At every turn, they seem to attract relationships that destroy them, their finances, and any chance of climbing to a magnificent life of abundance. Trevor Cowley is a serial entrepreneur, co-founder of Easier Accounting, Founder of 60-Day Credit Repair, Owner of 2 Franchises: Everbowl and Hello Sugar, and he's involved in 8 other businesses as well. He's also the co-host of one of the most powerful podcasts out in business today: Real Business Owners. Trevor shares his journey to an actual mountain where he sweated out his 7-year addiction to drugs. He talks candidly about what he was willing to do to pull himself out of a rough start in life. Pedro and Trevor discuss technology, raising children, working, living well below your means, and using your financial resources to invest as opposed to living in the life you truly want to live. What You'll Learn: The power of delayed gratification in obtaining material things Trevor's first job in sales and what he was willing to do How Trevor broke his cycle from poverty to drugs, to becoming a serial entrepreneur How to leverage your money to make more within 4 short months Insulating your net worth by doing 3 simple things Why society is headed for darker days if they don't take control of the attention of their children The type of car Trevor drives (Hint: It's not a Lambo or a McLaren) Why we label and judge people and the things people What Elon Musk did with the $190M he got when he sold PayPal and part of the journey he took before he hit it as the World's Richest Man How to make specific sacrifices to compound wealth and a lifestyle never imagined in the future starting today And much more! FAVORITE QUOTE: “There's a lot of people making $150,000-$200,000 a year that are living off of that. They don't make any investments and they're living paycheck to paycheck. They have all the houses, the vacations, the cars, the trucks, the boats, you know all the cool stuff, so it looks like they're making millions of dollars, but they really make $200,000 per year and they're living like they make $200,000 per year. But if that individual took a backseat to the lifestyle for 5 years, they might not ever have to work again.” -Trevor Cowley Connect with Trevor: Easier Accounting Real Business Owners Podcast How to Get Involved: From rock bottom and $500 to his name, Pedro Meneses moved to the US, leaving everything behind seeking answers to turn his life around, becoming an entrepreneur, and thriving in business. Tu and Lei begin this week's pod with a discussion and what led up to Hesai's recent IPO and capital raise of $190M. Tu speculates that there are likely companies that have traditionally been suppliers to the OEMs that, due to the current disruption will look to move upmarket to compete directly with the OEMs.The discussion moves over to the launch of the 5-seat Li Auto L7 and what the prospects are for the vehicle and company. Both Tu and Lei seem to be bullish on Li for now due to their entirely (very similar looking) revamped lineup.Reflecting on the market results for 2022, Tu tries to quantify how much market share the legacies have lost in China over just the last few years with Ford Motor's by far being the most unsettling. Tu goes as far as to state that Geely and BYD are poised to overtake their foreign legacy competitors in sales volume very soon.Lei moves into a review of the January sales numbers and how it seems the price cuts from Tesla worked as their January sales rebounded but other normal and Lei highlights a few EV companies that saw dramatic drops in sales in the CNY shortened January.Tu closes the pod with news that Tesla overtook Toyota to take the #1 spot in vehicle sales in California in 2022.

Incredibly offensive casting, supernatural coyotes, a tragic on-set death, and a $190M+ loss make “The Lone Ranger” one of the biggest flops of all time. Saddle up as we trot our way through the notoriously problematic 2013 film directed by Gore Verbinski, starring Johnny Depp, Armie Hammer, Helena Bonham-Carter, William Fichtner, Ruth Wilson, and some very carnivorous rabbits.

At the beginning of August of 2022, Nomad, the cryptocurrency bridge that lets users swap tokens between blockchains, was hit by hackers which stole $190 million of its funds. Nomad is a cross-chain bridge that allows users to send tokens between Ethereum, Avalanche, Evmos, Milkomeda C1, and Moonbeam networks, and the hackers managed to pull this off by first withdrawing 100 WBTC, which they immediately swapped for WETH and ETH. Interestingly enough, the hackers returned just a mere $9 million! Not long before this major hack, Aviva Ounap, host of Crypto and Blockchain Talk, interviewed Barbara Liau, COO of Nomad, touching on the security, vision, and future of Nomad. Join us for an interesting introspective into a blockchain prior to a major hack, and the dedicated people who really want nothing but to support the vision of a decentralized future for all. In addition, all interviews are streamed on Crypto24Radio.com, bringing you the latest news on all things blockchain and crypto-related all day, every day - plus music! So stay tuned and enjoy. Torq Resources has extended its initial discovery 190 metres to the north at the Margarita Iron-Oxide Copper Gold project located in northern Chile, approximately 65 kilometres north of the city of Copiapo. Drill hole 22MAR-014R intercepted 98 m of 0.94 g/t gold and 0.68% copper from 32 m – 130 m depth, successfully following up on the original discovery hole, 22MAR-013R, which intersected 90 m of 0.94% copper and 0.84 g/t gold (see May 2, 2022 news release linked below). The phase II drill program, consisting of 11 drill holes totaling approximately 4,000 m, has been completed and results will be forthcoming in the coming weeks. Shawn Wallace, CEO & Chair, stated: “We are extremely pleased to be able to confirm and expand upon the widths and grades of the new discovery at the Margarita project that we announced earlier this year. We also have several more exciting drill holes that we are waiting to obtain results from and will release once available. With the continued success at Margarita, coupled with our recent success in obtaining a community agreement for the Santa Cecilia project, all shareholders and stakeholders of Torq are in for an exciting next twelve months.” Michael Henrichsen, Chief Geological Officer, stated: “We believe we have identified a robust mineralized system at Margarita, with our second drill hole into the Falla 13 discovery zone returning a long, consistent intercept of nearly 1 g/t gold and 0.68% copper over 98 metres. We remain impressed by the high gold content in the mineralization encountered to date and believe that additional gold bearing structures identified on the property will develop into new targets, even further adding to the potential of the property. We look forward to planning the next phase of drilling along the Falla 13 structural corridor and testing new targets.” https://www.torqresources.com/ TSXV: TORQ | OTCQX: TRBMF Press releases discussed: https://torqresources.com/news-media/news/2022/torq-extends-margarita-iron-oxide-copper-gold-discovery-190-metres-to-the-north-98-metres-of-0.94-g-t-gold-and-0.68-copper/ https://torqresources.com/news-media/news/2022/torq-closes-c-15-million-strategic-investment-from-gold-fields/ Sign up for our free newsletter and receive interview transcripts, stock profiles and investment ideas: http://eepurl.com/cHxJ39 Torq Resources is an MSE sponsor. with @mg_486662 @riyazdf @nassyweazy and @smc90This week's all-new episode digs into recent high-profile hacks that took place in the crypto space over the last week -- we not only dig into what happened, including a more technical breakdown of the how and how we know -- but also cover the categories and issues specific to (and not specific to!) web3 security; as well as solutions and advice for builders. We also touch on related trends and topics such as the role of open source; communications around hacks, as well as social media status signaling; and much more. Throughout, we try to help tease apart what's hype/ what's real, as well as the signal vs. the noise, in the narratives out there... Joining host Sonal Chokshi this week are experts from the a16z crypto security team, including: security engineer Matt Gleason; CTO Riyaz Faizullabhoy; and CISO Nassim Eddequiouaq -- both of whom previously worked at Facebook, Anchorage, and Docker [Nass also appeared on an earlier episode of this show, on evolving NFTs & security, available here].But for this episode, just to quickly recap for your context, the hacks we're specifically covering are:The hack of the Nomad bridge -- which connects several different blockchains including Avalanche, Ethereum, Evmos, Moonbeam, and others – with reported range of between $185-$190M stolen; The hack of the Slope wallet -- a non-custodial, browser-based wallet that was reported to affect nearly 8000 users on Solana as well as other ecosystems -- with reported range of between $4.5-8M stolen. It occurred a week ago and Slope just posted their latest update today confirming some of the details in this episode (which was recorded a few days earlier). As a reminder: None of the following is investment, business, tax, or legal advice; please see a16z.com/disclosures for more important information, including a link to a list of our investments.

In a sure sign the election year has started, Kansas Governor Laura Kelly has conceded to Republican lawmakers and will sign the Kansas "freedom" bill which means an employee in Kansas does NOT have to get the jab. It's really a state law that backs up federal law and Kelly knows it. But it's an election year for her now, she had no choice. The CDC, as quietly as the Chiefs report settlements, released some stunning numbers of how many Americans have had Covid. This alone should be the stats that mean the pandemic is over. Joe Biden is releasing 50 million barrels of oil which isn't nearly enough to bring prices down much. But it's yet another sign the election year is on and Dems are really feeling the heat. In 1998 Adam Sandler wrote and starred in The Waterboy, the follow-up to his 1996 hit Happy Gilmore. In it, Adam stars as Bobby Boucher, a man with less than adequate intelligence, an overbearing and overprotective momma, and a hidden knack for crushing football hits. After Coach Klein encourages Bobby to stand up to a bully, he witnesses the raw violence Bobby is capable of and insists he joins the team as a linebacker. Bobby does, despite the frequent protests of his overprotective and aggressive momma, and becomes a sensation. Made for $23M, this blockbuster brought home $190M at the box office, pleasing fans and critics alike. But does it hold up? Listen as Jon, Colin, and Brent debate what momma said, and see if this is some high-quality H2O, or if Bobby’s momma is wrong again and Gatorade is the superior form of hydration.
