We said we could build nuclear weapons to keep the peace. But we never understood that the human condition of envy, greed and violence would win out. In the future, when Iran and Israel use nuclear weapons the World will blame America for its failed Policy of Deterrence to keep the peace. The unimaginable will have become a reality. And so, America will be viewed as a pariah country, despised and ridiculed for having brought death and destruction. There will be a heavy price to pay for that with retribution leveled against America. It was so easy for us to have been so wrong. MUSIC David Shire, Nathan Barr

Finally, an actually GORY movie! We know you've all been waiting for one, and we're excited to talk about one... and which one better than this insane bloodbath?!!(And get ready, because this one's our long one!) Gore Maestro Eli Roth literally burst onto the horror scene back in 2002 at TIFF (and then in the US a year later) with his feature film debut, "Cabin Fever", and since then, it's garnered mad respect from the likes of Peter Jackson and it's spawned two sequels and a remake, all of which we discuss in our eighth episode -- but don't worry, we also talk about a list of other things, such as bi-polar disorder, the upcoming holidays, and our current theme: Six Weeks of Holiday Horror, which begins next week with the 1972 Sally Field Thanksgiving-set thriller, “Home For the Holidays". As always, we're excited to be here, and grateful for you to be listening. Don't hesitate to leave us a review, even if Stanley pretends to not handle constructive criticism (hahaha.) Comments and suggestions are always welcome! We love all of you!Instagram/Twitter: @thegorygaysE-mail: thegorygays@gmail.com

Lisbeth Scott is a composer/ singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist and producer based in Los Angeles, California. She has recently completed scores for Universal's feature All My Life and their stunning silent film restoration of Stella Maris. Additionally, she has scored the gorgeous 2021 documentary “Gratitude Revealed “ by Moving Art/Netflix film creator Louie Schwartzberg. Lisbeth was twice nominated for an Annie Award for her score to Amazon's top children's show Tumble Leaf and also received critical acclaim for her score to Netflix's American Son. Scott has written music for over 50 films and television shows including compositions featured in Narnia, Concussion, and True Blood.Lisbeth has just released the first song off a new album she has created. It's so beautiful. Have a listen to it here and follow her work to stay up to date for when the rest of the album is released in May. Here's the link. After raising goosebumps on the skin of all who have heard her sing in the 150 plus films that feature her voice and songs, Scott began scoring films several years ago. Working for many years as a vocalist and collaborating closely with some of Hollywood's top-tier composers including John Williams, Hans Zimmer, John Debney, Nathan Barr, and Harry Gregson Williams, it was a natural progression to focus her talents on scoring films. Her inherent musicality and passion for the medium, along with years of classical training and performance experience are what make Lisbeth Scott such a revered film composer. Classically trained in piano, Lisbeth is fascinated with the textures of every instrument she lays her hands on. She began her keyboard studies at the age of 6 at the New England Conservatory and later added guitar, ukulele, harmonium, harp, dulcimer, and percussion. She has even been known to ‘saw” the strings of cello and violin now and then …(yes literally saw).Among her many instruments, Lisbeth has an extensive collection of Kalimbas, 15 guitars both acoustic and electric, a traditional Koto, an Array Mbira (an electric 4-octave version of an African thumb piano), a Mongolian mouth harp, traditional Didgeridoo (a beautiful gift from a tour in Australia!) and chests full of oddly shaped percussion instruments from around the world. The most treasured part of her collection is her 6 foot 1911 Steinway O grand piano. These cherished instruments are often woven textures in Lisbeth's scores. She also loves bringing the lyricism and emotional depth of her singing voice into her compositions.Lisbeth has studied string arrangement and orchestration and was also a participant in the BMI conducting workshop under the direction of Lucas Richman. She is a member as composer and publisher of BMI, SAGAFTRA, AFM, The Television Academy, and The Dramatists Guild. Her philosophy? Music makes the world go round…it's everywhere….in the touch of ocean spray-on skin, the padding of feet on soft pine needles in the middle of a forest, the high pitched scream of a hawk overhead, the quiet stumbling of a bee making its way through the middle of a sunflower…..The beauty of nature, sound, visual, story, and touch provides a connection between all beings.Much gratitude to the sponsors of Yoga Heart Mind!ww.solemechanics.com.au 15% off with promo code WATKINS6162 https://www.themilkcleanse.comPromo code STUARTWATKINS for 10% offhttps://sacredtaste.comPromo code STUARTWATKINS for 10% offhttps://blesSupport the show (https://stuartwatkins.org/podcast/)

We are back with a brand new Geektown Behind The Scenes Podcast, and this week we are chatting with an old friend of Geektown, composer Fil Eisler. For those of you that have missed the five times we previously interviewed Fil, he is the brilliant composer behind tv shows such as 'Empire', 'Revenge', 'UnREAL', and 'What/If', along with movies such as 'The Titan', 'CHIPS', Marti Noxon's 'To the Bone', and Melissa McCarthy/Ben Falcone films 'Life of the Party' and 'Superintelligence'. Fil began his career as a touring musician, where he traveled, recorded and wrote with a multitude of artists, including Robbie Williams, with whom he has written a number of songs such as 'Superblind' and 'My F*ck You to You'. He also recently composed an original concerto performed by the brilliant violinist Sarah Chang, and worked with a group of fellow composers, including our old friend Nathan Barr, on 'Silent Films Live', adding original score to silent movies. As an advocate for gun control in the US, Fil has worked on various documentaries such as 'Newtown', about the aftermath of the mass shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School, and 'Us Kids', following the students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida. It has been a couple of years since we last caught up with Fil, so we had lots to chat about, and for the first time, I got to do it face-to-face in his studio in LA. Unfortunately, I also was getting over a sore throat at the time, so I apologise for the croakiness of my voice in this recording! See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

The magical adventure tells the spine-tingling tale of 10-year-old Lewis (Owen Vaccaro) who goes to live with his uncle in a creaky old house with a mysterious tick-tocking heart. But his new town's sleepy façade jolts to life with a secret world of warlocks and witches when Lewis accidentally awakens the dead.In this episode, Nathan Barr talks about recording this score in his own new studio, including a 1928 Wurlitzer theater organ he had restored over four years. He talks about how this film became a great showcase for the inclusion his newly restored organ and how this score ended up being his most traditional score to date. While diving into the thematic development for principle characters of Lewis and Jonathan, Barr reveals the challenges of writing a horror-score for an Eli Roth film where children, instead of adults, were the target audience.ANNOTATED TRACKS AND SEGMENTS04:15 - "New Zebedee"08:18 - "Jonathan with Ax"09:48 - "Backyard Magic"11:35 - "Raising Isaac"14:18 - "Nickolodeon"18:18 - "Automotans Attack"19:12 - "Insect Book"SOUNDTRACKThe original soundtrack was release on September 21, 2018 by Back Lot Music. Composer Nathan Barr has received critical acclaim for his unmatched versatility, incorporating eclectic instruments from musical cultures across the world. Nathan recently completed construction on his new 8,000 square foot personal studio in Tarzana, California that can house 50-60 musicians. The studio, Bandrika (named after the fictional country in Hitchcock’s The Lady Vanishes, which I had forgotten!), houses the original Wurlitzer pipe organ that was installed at Fox studios in 1928 that recently went through a four-year restoration. With 1,500 pipes, able to mirror hundreds of different instruments ("It's like Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory for music," he says.), its music can be heard in iconic films including Journey to the Center of the Earth, The Sound of Music, and Patton. Barr and his team are currently compiling a list of composers that have used the organ including Oscar winners John Williams, Jerry Goldsmith and Bernard Herrmann. I chatted with the two-time Emmy-nominated composer about his work on The Americans, how his pianist mother and banjo-playing father introduced him to music in Japan at five years of age and becoming a collector of rare and unusual instruments from around the world such as a human bone trumpet from Tibet, dismantled pianos, a rare Glass Armonica, gourd cellos, many of which you can hear on any number of his original compositions. We also talk about some of his favorite composers and film scores including The Third Man and its classic zither. Since the end of The Americans, Nathan scored the dystopian action thriller, The Domestics, starring Kate Bosworth and Tyler Hoechlin, which hit theaters June 29th and is currently scoring season two of AMC’s multi-generational western epic, The Son, starring Pierce Brosnan. He's also putting the finishing touches on his next collaboration with director Eli Roth, the upcoming adventure film The House with a Clock in Its Walls (see trailer below) starring Jack Black and two-time Oscar winner Cate Blanchett. The film's release on September 21 will mark the Wurlitzer's 21st-century debut for movie audiences. 2019 will find Nathan scoring Amazon’s upcoming fantasy, period drama, Carnival Row, starring Orlando Bloom and produced by Guillermo del Toro. Nathan Barr currently resides in Los Angeles, California.
Music is a big part of our family. It's either constantly playing, or we're trying to learn to play an instrument. Lately, Channing has been into the guitar and let me tell you, I'm already having visions of her in a rock band and it's awesome. So when I had the opportunity to interview someone truly influential in the music industry I jumped at the chance. Anne Cecere is the Senior Director, Film, TV & Visual Media Relations at BMI - a music rights company. Cecere is the visionary behind creating a platform at WonderCon of composers and creators. In 2009, she realized there was no discussion of any music at any of the Con festivals. So she championed for the opportunity to have BMI composers involved at WonderCon by giving them the opportunity to elaborate on the importance of music behind some of TV’s biggest shows, films and video games. L to R Gabriel Mann (Composer for “School of Rock”) Steven Vincent (VP of Music and Soundtracks- The Disney Channel) Anne Cecere (Co-moderator and Senior Director, Film, TV & Visual Media, BMI) Christopher Lennertz (Composer for Galavant) Chandler Poling (Co-Moderator and President of White Bear PR) Rachel Rusch (VP of Event Series at FOX – Oversaw Grease Live!) Jeffrey Hornaday (Director: Teen Beach Movie & Choreographer for films, Flashdance, A Chorus Line and Dick Tracy) She tells me that the Con people in power initially told her "no", citing that no one would come to a music panel. And in 2010 she proved them wrong by hosting the first BMI panel at WonderCon to a packed house. The BMI music panels are now some of the most anticipated and attended panels at both WonderCon and Comic-Con. Cecere believes, and rightly so, that music is just as much of a character playing alongside Wonder Woman, Superman, Spiderman, Rick & Morty and so many more cult classics. Anne Cecere congratulating Iconic BMI composer John Williams after one of his concerts at the Hollywood Bowl As the BMI panels grew in popularity at both WonderCon and Comic-Con, it attracted major TV networks and creators. The networks offered exclusive footage and the creators asked to join the conversation of the important of music’s role in TV, film and video games. Over the years, the BMI panels at WonderCon and Comic-Con have included exclusive footage from shows such as Arrow and Looper, included award-winning composers such as Blake Neely, Christopher Lennertz, Charles Fox, Nathan Barr, John Ottman, Tyler Bates, Laura Karpman, Lolita Ritmanis, Heather McIntosh and many more. In addition, top Film, TV and video game executives and creators have also participated. In addition to changing the culture of the Cons, she is also a new mommy to a baby boy. She tells me she and her husband are avid cosplayers and that her son Jackson has already dressed up for his first Con. It's so awesome to see moms working their passion into parenting. Cinematic Sound Radio - Soundtracks, Film, TV and Video Game Music
Welcome to CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO’s annual Halloween Special. This is one of my favourite shows to produce featuring only music from Halloween themed film, TV and video game scores. This week’s show is a special one as I will be reading for you excerpts from a brand new book called SCORED TO DEATH: CONVERSATIONS WITH SOME OF HORROR’S GREATEST COMPOSERS. In the book, author J. Blake Fichera interviews 14 masters in the horror music genre including director/composer John Carpenter; sound designer/composer Alan Howarth; Italian composers (and members of the band Goblin, known for their scores for Dario Argento films) Claudio Simonetti and Maurizio Guarini; Hollywood composers Christopher Young, Tom Hajdu (of the composing team tomandandy), Charles Bernstein, Jay Chattaway, and Nathan Barr; as well as such other horror notables as Fabio Frizzi, Simon Boswell, Joseph Bishara, and Harry Manfredini. On the program today we are going to hear the music from six of those composers including HOSTEL by Nathan Barr, CUJO by Charles Bernstein, THE CONJURING 2 by Joseph Bishara, MANIAC by Jay Chattaway, THE FOG by John Carpenter and SINISTER by Christopher Young. And please stay tuned right ’til the end of the program as I will be playing a special suite of Halloween music from Sideshow Sound Theatre’s brand new Halloween themed album THEY LANDED ON HALLOWEEN composed by William Dodson and Wendell Jones.
