In today's episode, she discusses how to use your IDQ score to drive organic sales.Takeaways:Sellers often focus only on the front end of their listings, such as the title, bullets, and pictures, and neglect the backend attributes that Amazon provides. The backend attributes are in a flat-file format and can be updated by sellers to optimize their listings.You cannot change the category through flat files because Amazon will change it even if you provide a different category using flat files.Once an ASIN is created and approved, the subcategory doesn't matter as much as the keywords associated with the listing and the ranking of those keywords.You do not need to put repeat keywords and misspellings in the back end now because Amazon's algorithm is evolved to mix and match the keywords.Long paragraphs or bullet points are less likely to be read, so focus on shorter and more to-the-point information. People tend to read text within pictures and infographics so, use those to convey information.Amazon sellers should be aware that competitors can hijack their listing by using flat files, which can lead to the suspension of the listing if restricted keywords are added. Therefore, sellers should fill in as much information as possible in their category report, keep it updated, and monitor their listings for any unauthorized changes.Quote of the Show:We have something called the IDQ Score. Seeing businesses like that navigate the otherwise unsexy side of Amazon with a degree of difficulty, which includes things like inventory management, order fulfillment, and customer service, Vanessa realized the opportunity—she could form an agency that provides this support to them—and made the best out of it! Though starting the agency was a big risk as it required leaving her previous E-commerce manager job, and it did cause her nine months of financial difficulty, she kept going because she believed in the idea. Today, it has almost 20 employees, and she's proud of the progress they have made. And though she occasionally compares her agency with bigger ones employing 100-200 people, she's proud of her growth. Of the many lessons she gives away today, the important ones include: Vanessa's pet peeve of people not being real about the difficulties of selling on Amazon. As an educator in the space, she tries to put out real content to help sellers understand the real challengesthey may face. She also gets underneath the presence of automation in the industry and advises people to stay away from it, encouraging people to reach out to them for real advice. Frustrated at people overselling the ease of the Amazon sellers' business, Vanessa emphasizes that starting a business on Amazon is not easy but rewarding but you have to be all-in for it if you want to succeed. Para los que se perdieron Amazon Accelerate, aquí contamos todo en detalle con nuestra invitada Vanessa Hung, quien fue co-host de este podcast y que cuenta con una amplia experiencia en Amazon. “Amazon Accelerate es una conferencia completamente empapada en Amazon. Es la gran plataforma que ellos tienen de relaciones públicas para lanzar todas las cosas que van a hacer y comparten la visión que tienen para el siguiente año con su marketplace”, explica Vanessa, y agrega: “La invitación les llega primero a los vendedores más grandes de Amazon, los que tienen más ventas al año, y luego van mandando más correos a marcas más pequeñas que estén en la zona, según venga la registración”. Entre los anuncios nuevos está el Product Opportunity Explorer, una herramienta dentro de Amazon que es para hacer una investigación exhaustiva de productos y ver cuáles se están vendiendo más, cuáles son las keywords y la competencia, etc. “Es un tool dentro de Seller Central que sustituirá a Jungle Scout, Helium 10, etc. Ahora Amazon lo tiene ahí adentro”, afirma Vanessa. Asimismo, nuestra invitada nos cuenta que “antes nada más podías hacer búsquedas por keyword, pero ahora puedes buscar por ASIN, categoría y nicho, cosa que te abre el panorama de cosas que puedes hacer”: “Si quieres empezar a hacer la búsqueda de producto con un ASIN que te llama la atención, te va a sacar toda la data en base a ese ASIN”, celebra Vanessa. Lo que destacaron también durante Amazon Accelerate son las reviews. “El feature que estábamos hablando de las reviews va a decirte cuáles son las reseñas positivas y negativas. Si en la review negativa dice que el producto falló, vas a ver una palabra clave negativa, como así también sucederá con las positivas. Entonces te da la información de lo que está haciendo mal y bien ese producto. Esta data Amazon ya la tenía, simplemente que ahora la está compartiendo con nosotros. Es un análisis de cada ASIN, nicho o categoría para saber qué es lo que está pasando allí”, desarrolla Vanessa. También te van a informar en base a tu categoría cuáles son los productos que se están vendiendo más o menos: “Amazon quiere llenar esos huecos en la oferta, por eso esta herramienta en el Product Opportunity Explorer”. Dentro de Product Opportunity Explorer, hay otra implementación que se llama Amazon Growth Opportunities, que nos dice cuánto nos puede beneficiar hacer ciertos cambios en nuestros listings, es decir, que nos informa cuánto podemos ganar en visualización y dinero haciendo la modificación que ellos nos recomiendan, y cabe remarcar que este servicio no tiene costo alguno. Otra novedad se basa en el Email Marketing dentro de Amazon. Actualmente tenemos cuatro audiencias. La primera, que es a lo que todos tenemos acceso hoy, es el Brand Followers. “En el Email Marketing Tool lo que puedes hacer es mandarles campañas a los clientes cuando lanzas un nuevo producto, promoción, etc, pero si tus compradores no te siguen no les vas a poder hablar”, comenta Vanessa. No obstante, en Amazon Accelerate anunciaron que entró una nueva herramienta que nos da acceso a tres nuevas audiencias: la primera son los compradores que nos han comprado más de una vez, la segunda son los que más han gastado dinero con nosotros y la tercera son los que nos han comprado recientemente. “Este Amazon Tailored Audiences lo que va a hacer es sacar del juego a software adicionales, como Helium 10. Y hasta han habido suspensiones de cuentas que usan esas herramientas”, alerta nuestra invitada. “Las otras tres audiencias que abrieron están disponibles sólo para las marcas que han hecho campañas para su Brand Followers. Tienes que tener más de 100 followers y haber hecho en los últimos 30 días 10 campañas, es decir, enviar 10 correos, los cuales tienen que tener un porcentaje de apertura para que puedas aplicar. Entonces si eres una marca hoy y te metes ahí posiblemente no vas a tener acceso a los últimos compradores, clientes recientes o los que gastan más porque no has construido una base sólida de followers. Por eso es interesante ver qué es lo que van a hacer las marcas a partir de ahora para ganar esos followers”, informa Vanessa, y aconseja que “para construir esos followers debemos empezar haciendo Amazon posts”. Damos un giro y nos metemos de lleno en un nuevo beneficio que es Amazon's buy with Prime, el cual tiene como misión utilizar la capacidad logística de Amazon para ofrecerles sus servicios a las personas que tienen su propia página web. “Si tienes tu catálogo en Amazon y el mismo catálogo en Shopify, el inventario que tienes en FBA lo vas a poder utilizar cuando alguien compre en tu propia página web, y la experiencia que ese comprador va a tener dentro de tu página web va a ser la misma que en Amazon. Es un voto de confianza y sabes que tienes la protección de Amazon”, resalta Vanessa, aunque aclara que “la data del cliente en tu página web sigue siendo tuya”. Otro aspecto a considerar es que si aprovechamos Amazon's buy with Prime en nuestra página web vamos a “poder hacer Sponsored Brand para que la gente termine comprando en nuestro sitio”. “Están enrolando vendedores para entrar en el programa y subsidiarles el advertising que hacen en redes sociales cuando mandan personas, por ejemplo, a su Shopify”, declara Vanessa. También tienen como misión crear el botón de Amazon's buy with Prime dentro de nuestro propio sitio. “El scale button es para cuando abres un caso más complejo con Seller Support y necesitas una escala del caso”, define nuestra invitada, aunque puntualiza en que “hay casos que no son escalables y hay un proceso interno donde Amazon decide si escalarlo o no”. Como cierre, Vanessa hace hincapié en que el modelo de reventa dentro de Amazon está desapareciendo: “Es más irrelevante y cada vez hay más obstáculos dentro de Amazon para que eso no exista”, advierte nuestra invitada, y finaliza: “El target de Amazon Accelerate, tanto para información como para ventas de productos y atención a personas, se basa en marcas. Están dejando a un lado a los revendedores y personas que ofrecen servicios de Amazon. La mayoría de los updates están disponibles para marcas que tengan marca registrada. Ser parte de la comunidad de Wizards Of Ecom es una experiencia enriquecedora que hace escalar a cualquier emprendedor. Vanessa Hung es testigo de ello. Ella nos acompañó como nuestra co-host durante casi un año y ha sabido ganarse el cariño de todos nosotros, como así también nuevos espacios para seguir colaborando con las personas que deciden dedicarse al e-Commerce. Este episodio es el último en el que participará Vanessa, ya que tomará otro rumbo profesional. “Dejar el podcast no fue una decisión fácil, porque es muy importante para mí por el tema de la comunidad, me encanta enseñar y siento que estoy agregando valor y cambiando la vida de personas al darle el enfoque correcto a las preguntas. Sin embargo, hubo una propuesta en la mesa que en el futuro se alinea mucho con lo que quiero seguir haciendo”, relata Vanessa. Una empresa bastante grande en la industria se llama Carbon 6. Es una “comunidad de emprendedores para emprendedores” que los ayudan en su camino de vender online a través de educación, comunidades y herramientas. Entonces tienen varios instrumentos para distintos modelos de empresa, diferentes estados de negocio y quieren construir algo más valioso. “Se acercaron a mí y me comentaron que les gustaría que estuviera liderando su mercado hispano. Y una de las cosas que eso significa es que voy a tener un podcast en español bajo su paragua de contenidos”, cuenta Vanessa, y agrega: “Ellos están apuntando a muchísimas más personas, y es gente que ni siquiera sabe que el e-Commerce existe. Para mí, una misión de vida es llevarle el e-Commerce a muchas más personas en Latinoamérica y de habla hispana, porque es lo que en nuestra generación ha estabilizado muchas cosas y da oportunidades a personas que no tienen acceso a ese tipo de opciones, como tener un negocio”. En reemplazo de Vanessa, va a estar con nosotros Stefano Gasperini, quien hace más de tres años se dedica al e-Commerce: “Siempre he querido empezar mi propio negocio y emprender, y en el 2019 logré conseguir una pasantía con Amazon. Desde ahí empecé a aprender todo, como lanzar una marca, abrir una cuenta, etc. De hecho lancé un producto que se sigue vendiendo hasta ahora y valió el modelo. Poco a poco seguí creciendo, revendí un montón de libros usados con Retail Arbritrage, Online Arbitraje, Wholesale, y ahora estoy volviendo a lo que es Private Label”. La decisión de decirle que no a Amazon no fue fácil para Stefano. La empresa ofrecía un salario atractivo para él, muy distinto a la ganancia que producía la reventa de libros, un modelo de negocio que deja dinero, pero a cambio de mucho tiempo y esfuerzo por parte del vendedor. “La verdad es que me siento feliz por la decisión que tomé y ahora se están viendo los resultados de eso luego de tres años”, afirma Stefano. Nuestro nuevo co-host nos adelanta los temas que vamos a estar debatiendo en el podcast y esto incluye a Amazon, porque “representa más del 50 por ciento de lo que es el e-Commerce”, aunque también se hablará sobre otras plataformas de compra y venta online. “A mí me apasiona mucho lo que tiene que ver con creación y desarrollo de marcas privadas, porque siento que hacia allá es donde va la industria poco a poco, entonces pienso enfocarme bastante en eso. Pero también muchas de las habilidades que uno aprende al desarrollar una marca aplican para otros modelos de negocio”, destaca Stefano, y añade: “Pienso también hacer varios episodios yo solo, contando sobre mi experiencia y crecimiento, y adaptarme lo más posible a lo que la audiencia quiera. También ofrecer esa información que es relevante y nueva para hacérsela llegar a nuestro público lo más rápido posible para que tomen ventaja”. Como cierre de este episodio y la despedida de Vanessa, Stefano resalta que “es importante tener una comunidad de personas que piensen igual, que estén tratando de alcanzar lo mismo que uno o que ya estén allá”. El cierre del 2021 genera expectativas en relación al próximo año y nos hace planear un montón de objetivos nuevos para nuestro negocio, pero también es una etapa de aprendizaje a la que no hay que darle vuelta la página. Hubo errores y aciertos que hay que tener en consideración para el futuro. Por eso, en este episodio decidimos darles a nuestros oyentes los tips más importantes de nuestra conductora Vanessa Hung para estar preparados para el nuevo año que llega. Ella es fundadora y CEO de Online Seller Solutions y como emprendedora ha tenido circunstancias que la han hecho aprender. Semanas atrás sufrió la suspensión de su cuenta de Instagram, uno de sus canales principales de comunicación que trae clientes a su negocio. Fue sin ningún tipo de aviso. “Eso me hizo reconocer el concepto de single point of failure, y eso son todas las cosas que hacen que un sistema falle cuando no funciona”, cuenta Vanessa. “Para el próximo año, hice una lista de los single point of failure y esto es sumamente relevante para las personas que estamos en el E-Commerce, porque hay muchas cosas de nuestro negocio que no podemos controlar”, afianza nuestra conductora, y advierte que las cosas que pueden pasar en nuestro negocio nos pueden agarrar desprevenidos y, “si pasan, es fracaso seguro”. Vanessa nos relata un ejemplo bastante sencillo que “son los límites de inventario que Amazon implementó, ya que uno no puede enviar cierta cantidad de inventario a Amazon”. “Eso cambió el modelo de negocio para muchas personas, sólo porque estaban dejando FBA como la única opción de Fulfillment”, asegura, y añade: “Esta es una de las cosas que me di cuenta que pasa en el E-Commerce y nosotros estamos en esta plataforma, pero no la controlamos”. Otro ejemplo es el tema del PPC y la pregunta es: ¿qué pasa si, por cierto período, no puedes hacer publicidad? “Si ustedes son unos vendedores que están 100 por ciento dependiendo de todo el tráfico pagado, eso crea un problema porque no hay nada orgánico. Si vamos a hacer publicidad, hagamos publicidad en distintas plataformas”, recomienda Vanessa. Por esta razón, nuestra conductora nos narra que sumó otro punto para la lista de los single point of failure y es el principio de 80/20, es decir, “80 por ciento que es lo que está funcionando y 20 por ciento probar esas cosas nuevas que posiblemente nos pueden ayudar en el futuro si el 80 por ciento no funciona”. Vanessa enseña que “si ustedes ahora están haciendo publicidad paga y están utilizando, por ejemplo, Amazon, usen el 80 por ciento en eso, pero el 20 por ciento de su budget dedíquenselo a Facebook Ads o Google Ads o hagan tráfico desde su social media, porque si en algún momento alguna de esas plataformas cae, no todo su negocio se cayó”. Cuando uno puede reconocer los problemas, ahí sí es posible hacer la lista de las soluciones para estar preparados. “Las hipótesis son lo peor que yo creo que puede pasar, y no es porque yo sea pesimista, pero tenerlas presentes me deja mucho más segura, y en cualquier cosa que pase en mi negocio de ahora en adelante yo voy a poder solucionarlo”, remarca Vanessa. “Una de las grandes cosas para mí fue hacerme consciente de los modelos mentales y es empezar a tenerlos para hacerle la approach a las cosas. Los modelos mentales es ese conocimiento base que te ayuda a procesar información”, comenta, y menciona un newsletter llamado “Farnam Street” para seguir creciendo como emprendedores bajo esta modalidad de pensamiento: “Es increíble y cambió por completo cómo hago la approach a todo en mi negocio”. En este sentido, Vanessa afirma que uno de los modelos mentales más efectivo son las decisiones secundarias, y es “el hecho de que cuando uno toma una decisión ves la consecuencia inicial, pero el modelo mental de las decisiones secundarias habla de que uno siempre tiene que ver cuáles son las consecuencias que trae esa decisión en el mediano y largo plazo y muchas veces no las sabemos y tomamos decisiones para solucionarlo en el corto plazo, sin darnos cuenta que esas decisiones en el largo plazo nos pueden impactar negativamente”. “Este modelo me ayudó mucho en la toma de decisiones”, atestigua. Por otro lado, Vanessa hace hincapié en la comunidad a la cual pertenecemos. “Desde siempre he pensado que estar rodeado de gente que piensa y está haciendo cosas como nosotros es súper importante, pero este 2021 fue el año donde no me queda ninguna sola duda de seguir creciendo esta comunidad de vendedores de Wizards of Ecom”, destaca. Asevera que “los grandes aprendizajes de este año siempre han pasado gracias a que habla con alguien en la comunidad, comparte o estuvo en el momento indicado escuchando algo para su negocio”. “Si algo les puedo recomendar para el año que viene, es que inviertan en su comunidad”, opina nuestra conductora. Sin dudas que formar parte de una comunidad y aportar valor a la misma lleva tiempo y energía, pero “se pueden crear conexiones que sean impactantes en su vida y los va a ayudar muchísimo”. No es sólo buscar el beneficio propio, sino “cómo puedo yo agregar valor para que esa persona pueda crecer y la comunidad sea exitosa”. Finalmente, Vanessa invita a tener un propósito y cumplirlo: “Lo que quiero que se lleven las personas es lo que les comparto y ayudarlos”. Y el próximo año puede ser una oportunidad para poder articular nuestro fin. Tener nuestros valores claros y un propósito puede servir para terminar con muchas situaciones que nos estancan y que previenen que alcancemos nuestras metas.
