Reabold Resources PLC (AIM:RBD) co-CEOs Sachin Oza and Stephen Williams visit Proactive's London studio to speak with Thomas Warner after a group of Reabold shareholders requisitioned a general meeting to be held on 10 January. The requisition represents the third attempt to oust Oza and Williams as co-CEOs. They urged shareholders to reject all resolutions at the general meeting, emphasising the company's momentum and potential value delivery in 2024. Williams attributes the takeover attempts to the company's attractive portfolio and significant cash inflow from the Victory Project sale to Shell. He expresses concerns about the use of these funds and highlights what he considers a pattern of opportunistic requisition attempts following financial gains. Oza addresses some of the challenges the company has faced, focusing on regulatory delays impacting the execution of the business plan. The co-CEOs warn about the ability of any incoming managers managing the next few pivotal months for the business and highlight what they consider conflicts of interest and lack of capability of the proposed new directors and management. Additionally, they go on to discuss Reabold's prospects for 2024, including the drilling of the West Newton well in the UK and early production potential in Italy. They emphasise the importance of their leadership for the company's success in the company's projects and urge shareholders to support their continued leadership for the company's crucial year ahead. #ReaboldResources #SachinOza #StephenWilliams #EnergyIndustry #OilAndGas #UKEnergy #ShareholderMeeting #CorporateGovernance #BusinessStrategy #EnergySecurity #RegulatoryChallenges #InvestmentStrategy #CorporateLeadership #TakeoverAttempts #EuropeanEnergy #WestNewtonProject #ItalianEnergyProjects #ShareholderAdvice #CorporateInterview #BusinessInsights #ProactiveInvestors #Reabold #invest #investing #investment #investor #stockmarket #stocks #stock #stockmarketnews

Major highway projects can bring prosperity, ease of travel but can also cut through the soul of a community and make it vanish. In this episode we learn about how the Turnpike Authority cleared out swaths of homes in West Newton and Auburndale Mass. Myrtle Village formed around the Myrtle Baptist Church, which still stands today as a testament to the perseverance and faith of a community. However the construction of the Pike left visible scars on the neighborhood which can still be seen with a careful eye. A jumble confusing traffic patterns, dead ends and oddly configured streets make it obvious that the area used to look completely different. We also discuss what a "Turnpike" is anyway and how the famous Star Market ended up straddling the highway. By the late 1940's routes 9, 20 and 30 were already completely congested with traffic. In an attempt to address the growing need for roads, one of the greatest monsters in Massachusetts history was created. Like most monsters this was a hybrid of two things. The key power of this monster is Eminent domain which gives the government the authority to seize private property in the public interest if they compensate the owner. Paul Hanna There Was Nothing There In this episode of the podcast, WWII Army veteran Paul Hanna of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania talks about visiting Hiroshima shortly after the atomic bomb destroyed the city in 1945.     Paul Hanna is among the very few Americans to have personally witnessed the atomic aftermath at both Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan.  Like many WW II veterans, Paul has little doubt that the bombing was justified.  For him, it was necessary . . . or else.  Had the invasion of Japan proceeded as planned, it is estimated that hundreds of thousands of people on both sides would have died.  In the late fall of 1945, Corporal Hanna was in the breach of this impending attack on Japan, prepared to follow orders. Paul Hanna grew up in West Newton, a small town fed by the Youghiogheny River some twenty-five miles southeast of Pittsburgh. The Hanna family was large and close.  Patriotic.  The Hanna’s contribution to the war effort was unselfish; four sons served simultaneously.  Moe the oldest flew with the Army Air Corps as a navigator in North Africa; he eventually fulfilled his mission quota and returned home early in the war.  Pete became a career naval officer, getting his start as a cadet at Carnegie Tech.  Paul was drafted into the Army, as was younger brother David who saw extensive combat in both Germany and France.  The youngest brother Donald would serve in the Army during the Korean War.  In answer to their parents’ prayers, all of the Hanna brothers returned home to West Newton—one by one and unharmed. Paul speaks matter-of-factly about of his military service, as do a surprising number of WW II veterans.  He calls himself one of the “unattached and unassigned” members of the Army.  It was as if the Army needed him (he was drafted in 1943), but then couldn’t decide how.  After induction he was sent to a half dozen different training bases to learn how to do a half dozen different jobs.  As much a lowly corporal as anyone, he was even briefly put in charge of more seasoned, senior, but segregated “colored” troops during one of his stays in the Deep South.  Back then, rank and race had its privileges. Eventually the Army found a useful assignment for Paul and it shipped him across the Pacific to be part of a diversionary force that would attack Japan’s backside.  He was to land on the main island and fight long and hard enough until US forces could make their main assault. Like many GIs hurriedly sent to the Pacific in preparation for the invasion, Paul witnessed one of the largest military assemblages of manpower and machines the world has ever seen.  At the island of Ulithi, he says, “There were so many ships you couldn’t count them.  Thousands of them.” After the atomic bombs were dropped and Japan surrendered, Paul finally made a landing onto Japanese soil in October 1945.  He went ashore at Kure, about twenty miles from Hiroshima.  There was nothing there.  The city was just like you see it in pictures he says.  The Army also told him that it was safe, as long as he didn’t stay too long in the city or pick up anything as a souvenir.  Paul wasn’t about to.  Not there or in Nagasaki, which he also visited. After only a few months in Japan, Paul was sent home.  Without much fanfare, he was quietly discharged in February 1946.  After arriving by train at Pennsylvania Station, Paul promptly got into his father’s waiting car and that was it.  The war was over.  Going to war was a necessary thing to do, but after it ended it was time to get on with their lives, Paul contends in that same matter-of-fact tone. Like many of his fellow veterans, Paul used the GI Bill after the war.  He obtained a college degree in 1949 from Carnegie Tech—known today as Carnegie Mellon University—and went on to have a very successful thirty-three year career as an engineer. Petrel Resources (PET) announced preliminary results for the year ended 31 December 2019.  The Chairman’s statement is a grand read and John Teeling just tells it all frankly as it is.  @Oilman_Jim (https://twitter.com/Oilman_Jim) This was a blog favourite last year around 1p and is still over 4p, having been many times higher.  It could move strongly upwards again with positive Iraq news. Other news from the first couple of the days of the week, Union Jack Oil (UJO) and Reabold Resources (RBD) were trying to make the case that oil and gas production at West Newton will be “green.”  I’m not sure how many people will be convinced of this.  In the meantime, dates for the drill are awaited.

Doug Derda knows barbecue, so we asked him to share some of his secrets. His website, Yinz Love BBQ, is a compendium of all things rubbed, smoked, and sauce-slathered in Western Pennsylvania. There's a directory so you can source some good barbecue, a blog where he shares industry news and his competition experiences, and an events listing (although the latter might be less important at the moment). In this episode, Derda gives some current take-out recommendations and explains some of his at-home barbecue setup. If you plan on upping your grill game during this stay-home summer, we highlight some places to consider for meat shopping, and Derda shouts out Williams Ace Hardware in West Newton as one of his favorite one-stop shops for barbecue accessories and seasonings. Plus, Steel City Salt Co. in Millvale recently released an everything bagel blend, so you can shop local to spice up your homemade breads and biscuits.  Another busy week.  Lansdowne Oil & Gas (LOGP) announced its placing: £488,000 at 0.6p to keep the company going until the end of the year.  Following its placing the previous week, Predator Oil & Gas (PRD) announced the exercise of its rig option with mobilisation to occur between 15 March and 30 April. PetroTal (PTAL) issued an oil reserve and operational update.  I mentioned declines and promotion out of Zug and encountered quite a reaction. Some of them who’ve given trouble previously over my comments on companies such as Block Energy (BLOE) and Reabold Resources (RBD) (both of which are down in price very significantly since) were complaining that they were blocked.  UK Oil & Gas (UKOG) announced a loan balance reduction to £3 million (so the convertible loan note shares continue to gradually be distributed) and also reported commencement of the HH-2z water shut off intervention.  Sound Energy (SOU) announced that the anonymous UK private company, which was previously stated to be the purchaser of their assets, doesn't have the funds.  Now CEO, James Parsons, who managed to destroy investors' capital in Echo Energy (ECHO) too, is off to rescue Ascent Resources (AST).  Per the recent RNS, the “rescue” starts by wiping out the equity of existing shareholders. Back to the individual companies, Tower Resources (TRP) announced a Cameroon update. Union Jack Oil (UJO) and Reabold Resources (RBD) announced West Newton updates.  Rathlin, the operator, now has filed a revised plan to the Environment Agency for approval, following which they will notify the Oil and Gas Authority in respect of the recommencement of the A-2 extended well test.  Touchstone Exploration (TXP) raised £9 million in a placing at 40p.  Funds will be used to accelerate exploration drilling at Ortoire, where so far they’ve had considerable success.  At the other end of the credibility spectrum, Canadian Overseas Petroleum (COPL) only managed to raise a comparably miserable £117,000 from its Chairman, “reflecting his confidence in the company” they said. Eco (Atlantic) Oil & Gas (ECO) was "delighted to announce it has been recognized as a 2020 TSX Venture 50™ company, an annual ranking of top-performing companies on the TSX Venture Exchange.” Meanwhile, United Oil & Gas (UOG) announced the completion of the Rockhopper acquisition.  The 114,503,817 shares issued to Rockhopper Exploration (RKH) will be admitted to trading on AIM on 28 February. Perhaps more interesting, Bahamas Petroleum Company (BPC) announced it has arranged a second convertible loan note facility. https://www.share-talk.com/oil-man-jim-company-oil-gas-podcast-weekend-blog-23rd-february-2020/#gs.xre2pj

lt turned out to be quite an exciting week. Global Petroleum (GBP) announced a new prospective resources estimate of 964 million barrels of oil for its petroleum exploration licence 94 in Namibia. One reservoir is estimated to have best estimate unrisked gross prospective resources of 772 million barrels of oil with a 15% chance of geologic discovery. It's worth a go, yet at the same time it's worth nothing to them unless they can drill it, which will require either a farm-out or a large financing. News of that is still awaited. Regal Petroleum (RPT) announced a memorandum of understanding to acquire licences in the Ukraine with estimated oil initially in place of approximately 675 million barrels. They intend to appraise the licences with the drilling of up to three wells. Existing 3P reserves for RPT currently are estimated at 3.89 million barrels of oil equivalent, so this transaction, if it proceeds, could represent a very significant uplift. Generally I'm cautious about companies operating in the former Soviet Union, but this now is one to keep an eye on. More bad news for Providence Resources (PVR) unfortunately. TOTAL have withdrawn from the licence containing the "Avalon" prospect. And there's still no news of a replacement farm-in partner for Barryroe, so the share price just continues to drift lower. Another Dublin company continues to go in the opposite direction. Petrel Resources (PET) pushed on with its remarkable journey higher, hitting 26.5p last week, up 2,550% from the 1p price at which I stated it as a favourite several times earlier this year. More companies like this in the private blog if you're interested. Cluff Natural Resources (CLNR) announced that it has submitted multiple applications for additional licences in the latest 32nd UK Offshore Licensing Round. Interestingly, one has been made jointly with an established international operator (I would guess Shell). The blocks applied for contain a number of drilled discoveries, undrilled prospects and leads, which will create a strong pipeline of future drilling opportunities. They say they're making significant progress on the existing portfolio, in particular the licences which Shell farmed into earlier this year, and they're now working towards a firm well commitment on Selene and Pensacola. With a £19 million market cap and a £15 million fundraising completed over 30% higher than the current 1.325p share price, it's certainly one for the watch list. Their farm out process on the Dewar prospect has generated significant interest and announcement of the completion of this could act as a catalyst. UK Oil & Gas (UKOG) announced the completion of HH-2z. Extended well test operations are expected to start next week. Stephen Sanderson, UKOG's Chief Executive, is "confident that the 2,500 ft of permeable Portland sweet-spot reservoir section, 70 times that seen in HH-1, can deliver significant rates." What I think we can be confident of is that UKOG will issue the most positive press releases possible. Where this goes now though is very much going to be a function of how much the convertible loan note holders sell. PetroTal (PTAL) announced a drilling and production update, providing an increased 2019 exit oil production rate of 11,000 - 13,000 barrels a day. They will complete new production facilities towards month end, increasing capacity to 10,000 barrels of oil per day, but expect that the facility will be able to handle in the order of 15,000 barrels per day. This is the first “forward looking” RNS that the company has issued and some are expecting a placing, but let's see. Union Jack Oil (UJO) finally announced its placing. £5 million is being raised at 0.15p. They and Reabold Resources (RBD) now are funded for two further wells at West Newton, which are expected in the second quarter of next year. The interesting mystery here now is what is going to happen with Humber's share. Independent Oil & Gas (IOG) announced that henceforth it will be known simply as IOG. The aim is to have a new identity and hopefully put behind controversial associations of the past. It's another one to keep an eye on and once the many loose shares in issue have found more permanent homes, it should start to work its way higher. 88Energy (88E) announced completion of the farmout with Premier Oil (PMO) and approval of the plan of operations for Charlie-1, which is expected to be drilled in February next year. The gross mean prospective resource across the seven stacked targets to be intersected by Charlie-1 is 1.6 billion barrels of oil (480 million barrels net to 88E). Bahamas Petroleum Company (BPC) now is trying to raise funds from locals to finance next year's drill via the creation of a Bahamas-domiciled mutual fund that will exclusively hold BPC shares. It's quite a novel approach and I imagine people could be interested. It will be fascinating to see how this goes and I'm sure many other companies will be interested in the outcome. I3 Energy (I3E) announced another disappointing well result, but many obviously knew about it in advance of the market. I said on Wednesday that this one is a rigged deck and unless you're an experienced trader I would suggest leaving it alone. The share price continued to collapse again on Thursday prior to a further announcement of the conclusion of its 2019 drilling campaign (people had been led to believe there might be a fourth well). I now view this as uninvestible. Longboat Energy (LBE) listed this week. Essentially it's a cash shell looking for a deal. Could be interesting and I'll be looking into it further. Another one that appears to be entering the oil and gas space is MetalNRG (MNRG) which announced the signature of an exclusivity agreement to acquire 75% of an established operating company based in Romania, which owns 100% of an oil and gas concession. No details on this yet, but as they become available I'll share my thoughts. Finally, Egdon Resources (EDR) announced licence extensions covering the Resolution gas discovery where a Competent Persons Report by Schlumberger reported estimates of mean contingent resources of 231 billion cubic feet of gas. They announced earlier this month an exclusivity agreement regarding these licences with a large internationally recognised exploration and production company and they have until 31 January next year to demonstrate to the Oil and Gas Authority's satisfaction that a farm-in agreement has been fully executed which provides for funding of the licence work programme. It's potentially interesting if they can pull this off. Oil Man Jim Company Oil & Gas Update’s 17th November 2019

It’s been an interesting week, with some very good news and some very bad. To start off, Savannah Petroleum (SAVP) was able to announce that, at last, it has completed the Seven Energy transaction. This now gives Savannah a material producing asset base to complement its Niger exploration and development assets, in respect of which it aims to recommence activity in 2020, with expected delivery of first oil from R3 East and a multi-well exploration drilling campaign. This was financed by institutions two years ago at 35p per share and I expect to see the share price now start to work its way up from the current level of 26p. Reabold Resources (RBD) and Union Jack Oil (UJO) advertised upgraded potential volumes at West Newton in a pre market RNS first thing Monday morning and spiked the early buyers. Union Jack slid down from nearly 30p to under 20p by the end of the week and the coup de grace was delivered just after market close on Friday when it announced that it is in the process of taking market soundings from investors in regard to an equity placing of up to £5 million. Investors are not happy and are hoping that it’s not below the last placing price of 17p. More on what’s going on here in the private blog. Amerisur Resources (AMER) announced a recommended cash acquisition by GeoPark Colombia. Each Amerisur Shareholder will receive 19.21p cash per share. It’s less than people were hoping for, but significantly higher than the 12.1p price at which the shares were trading before bidding opened. It’s also a small profit for those who bought in the 17s and 18s over the last few months. The board undoubtedly tried for a better price (directors and institutions were in much higher) but South America is not the best place to be right now unfortunately. Anglo African Oil & Gas (AAOG) reported that it has entered into a rig option agreement, but the rig might not be available until 30 March 2020. Unfortunately, November turned out to be the date for a rig agreement, not the rig arriving as investors had hoped. The problem for them though is that paying for the drill depends on Riverfort selling shares at a higher price than now and how does that situation come about? Slippery language isn’t working anymore for these companies and I see only one way for the Anglo African share price now, which is to decline further. I’ve been warning about this one all the way down from just under 20p and the shares hit an all time low of 2.4p on Friday. On a brighter note, UK Oil & Gas (UKOG) announced the successful completion of its Horse Hill horizontal drill. A total of approximately 2,500 ft of horizontal trajectory was drilled within the reservoir’s most oil productive zone, which gives around 70 times greater exposure than in the vertical discovery well. This is why HH-2z is capable of delivering significantly greater flow rates than those seen in the vertical well. HH-2z is now being prepared for an extensive extended well test, which is expected to commence in the coming weeks and I expect to see some impressive numbers being reported here soon. Sound Energy (SOU) announced that James Parsons and Simon Davies have confirmed their decision to leave the Company. This follows on from the announcement that the CFO is leaving and not being replaced. Last week’s announcement was deliberately drafted to make people think the sale of the Morocco assets is a certainty. So, it’s the end game here now and it appears that they’re trying one last ramp before lights out. Interesting developments at Cadogan Petroleum (CAD). Requisitioning shareholders had an overwhelming majority (93.08% to 6.92%) at the general meeting, thus Adelmo Schenato and Enrico Testa have been removed as directors of the Company with immediate effect, Fady Khallouf, Lilia Jolibois and Jacques Mahaux have been appointed to the board, Zev Furst has tendered his resignation as a director, Fady Khallouf is succeeding Guido Michelotti as CEO of the company and Michel Meeus, a non-executive director of the company and one of the requisitioners, has been appointed as chairman. One of the complaints against the old board is that the company has continuously underperformed and the company’s share price has not materially improved in recent times. The market capitalisation is £13 million and net assets (including around $14 million cash) are nearly $52 million, so there is significant upside here. Eco (Atlantic) Oil & Gas (ECO) announced an update on the initial analysis of the Jethro and Joe wells and the share price more than halved. This is a prime example of why you should never fully believe any of these companies – and always take profits or de-risk. This is a permanent statement in the blog and I really can’t emphasise the importance of this enough. All I can say in this case is that it is inconceivable that Tullow Oil (TLW) and hence ECO did not know it was heavy oil before the announcement. Remarkably, indeed shockingly, Gil Holzman, CEO, was promoting ECO to private investors at a London South East promotional event the day before. If you believe people can be judged by the company they keep, then him sharing a promotional platform with Matt Lofgran of Nostra Terra Oil & Gas (NTOG) possibly says it all. Coro Energy (CORO) and Empyrean Energy (EME). announced their Tambak-1 well intersected the intra-Muda reservoir of the Mako field as expected and data have established the well as a successful appraisal of the Mako gas field. The interesting part is coming up for CORO and EME, since their Indonesian well now will be drilled to a total depth of around 4,005 feet to test the potential of the Tambak prospect, which is estimated as having a mid-case prospective resource potential of 250 Bcf and a geological chance of success of 45%. The impact of this drill to date has actually been negative for the share prices of both companies, but perhaps an exploration success can galvanise them. On the subject of Indonesia, Baron Oil (BOIL) announced that it has entered into a non-binding agreement to acquire SundaGas, which owns the Chuditch Block, offshore Timor-Leste, and the Telen Block, offshore Indonesia. The vendor will receive 66.67% of Baron before the fundraising. There is no indication yet as to what type of financing they will do, for what amount and at what price, so we’ll have to wait for the details to form an assessment. The shares are now suspended pending the publication of an admission document. Finally, there’s been a lot of interest in the new private blog and some confusion too, so let’s try to clarify everything. Currently, I record two podcasts each week, one mid-week and one at the weekend, and I write a blog on Sunday. All these remain the same, unchanged and free of charge. The private blog contains the information which cannot be published in the public blog and podcasts due to legal constraints and it also includes my actual trading ideas with full reasoning. It is sent out immediately by email as events dictate so you receive the information straight away. There is a charge for the private blog, but I think you’ll find the information within it is worth many times its cost. For those who are not familiar with me, I focus exclusively on small-cap oil and gas companies and know this sector inside out. I have been involved in the stock markets (both UK and US) since the early 1980s and understand exactly how the finance and promotion game works. I also have many years’ operational and corporate experience in the oil business, which enables me to see very quickly whether or not these companies are telling the truth. It’s not investment advice that I offer and if you want that, you should speak with a financial advisor. I share my take on companies and the markets and, as those who follow me know, I’m rarely wrong about these matters. This is the link to subscribe: https://www.oilnewslondon.com/oilman-jim In other news, Oilex (OEX) announced an extension of the bid closing date for Cambay, Aminex (AEX) issued a Ruvuma joint statement with Solo Oil (SOLO) who also announced the appointment of an independent non-executive director, Columbus Energy (CERP) announced a medium term funding agreement and the extension of the Inniss Trinity IPSC, SDX Energy (SDX) announced the commencement of production at South Disouq and a directorate change, Predator Oil & Gas (PRD) announced a CO2 EOR Trinidad update, Alba Mineral Resources (ALBA) announced a Horse Hill update, Echo Energy (ECHO) announced the completion of an acquisition, Range Resources (RRL) announced a continuous disclosure update and a Trinidad tax appeals update, Canadian Overseas Petroleum (COPL) announced Q3 2019 results, Touchstone Exploration (TXP) and Serinus Energy (SENX) announced third quarter 2019 results, President Energy (PPC) announced the expiry of Decree 566 and oil prices in Argentina returning to normal, Zenith Energy (ZEN) announced the filing of quarterly results, Lekoil (LEK) announced the acknowledgement of the OPL310 licence extension payment, The Parkmead Group (PMG) announced preliminary results for the year ended 30 June 2019, Cabot Energy (CAB) announced directorate and management changes and Angus Energy (ANGS) announced a Balcombe update.

Reabold Resources and Union Jack Oil started the week advertising upgraded potential volumes at West Newton in a pre-market RNS. After spiking the early investors, the shares moved down once the small print was digested. To quote: "The information contained herein is the Operator's internal assessment of hydrocarbons in place and should not be construed as an indication of ultimately recoverable resources in accordance with an internationally recognised standard." There's no flow test either. That was previously cancelled.  Anglo African Oil & Gas announced that it has entered into a rig option agreement, but the rig might not be available until 30 March 2020. The 14th Pedalshift Tour Journal whisks you (by bike, natch) from the District of Columbia across three of America's great trails to Cincinnati, Ohio. In part two, we follow the Great Allegheny Passage from Cumberland, MD to Pittsburgh, PA and then hit the roads again into Ohio. The rain falls and the terrain turns hilly... does Type 1 fun turn to Type 2? DC to Cincinnati - Great Allegheny Passage For a preview of the ride, check out Pedalshift 162. For Part 1 on the C&O towpath, check out Pedalshift 165. Pedalshift Plus folks! Stay on the bonus feed and you'll get a special bonus pod with each episode... kind of a summary of my thoughts on that part of the route! If you join Pedalshift Society at any point in the run, you'll get access - pedalshift.net/society. Mark your calendars - Pedalpalooza - Friday, June 14th in Portland, OR. Details coming soon and also at pedalshift.net/events. Sprocket, Joyride, Go Dig a Hole and more of your favorite shows repping on bikes with mics! May 4 Slept HARD til 6:30 WiFi not so hot Gas station cuisine Weather looks unsettled - rain likely Stick in my front wheel since Paw Paw??!! May need air in my tires - beyond supple Tree down requiring going on tracks for a brief moment... but none on C&O which was a miracle! So muggy! Went to shorts Trail was good in parts, soft in others Felt slow Tunnels have a perceptible cool breeze that hits you well before the opening Mason-Dixon Line Fog in Big Savage tunnel!! ECD! Like a rocket tied to my bike - even with a headwind Ice cream as the rain starts in Meyersdale Not sure where I’ll stop? With rain likely all night it would be best to push but energy will dictate —— Ride to Rockwood was delightful AF A little light rain is nice to ride in if it’s not a slog Why is it always raining when I’m in Rockwood Bought a sandwich and they were playing Don’t Dream It’s Over by Crowded House... delightful Definitely going to Confluence. I have 18 in me! Easter Egg on the MM44 Post... First real PGH influence - tattered Pens towel posted outside, recalling better championship days Also Whoopee Pies - Pennsylvania’s best contribution to society if it weren’t all sugar and therefore poison Rockwood always strikes me as a bit suspicious of me. Bar next door was playing a deep cut from Poison. Time to go. Jammed those 18 miles - listened to 90s music on shuffle. Turns out Filter is great to bike to. Army Corps campground only $5 buuuut showers not open Like Cube said... today was a good day May 5 Rained all night and will likely rain all day in Confluence. Interior of tent is starting to condense on the tarp so staying put doesn’t ensure staying perfectly dry To zero or not to zero? The further north the earlier the rain ends Going to trust my rain wear and my dry bags and push at least to Connellsville and assess 12 miles to Ohiopyle was as expected - muddy and steady but slow rain. Tried passing a biker with a trailer and a dog taking up the whole trail - dog sped up to my full passing speed so I just backed off They didn’t like being followed so they pulled off. Not a great moment but understandable Then a downed tree took some real effort to get over (me and panniers) and under (rest of the bike) Could use a laundromat - likely tomorrow unless I call the day in Connellsville Aaaand I made it to a laundromat! And man was I soaked! It was cool enough that not addressing my state would be bad so this was a great time to stop. Feeling good - not sure if this is my stop for the night or if I push on an extra 40 miles and earn that zero day! —— The GAP after an all day rain is no better than the C&O after and all day rain. No trail handles it well unless it’s paved. Like riding on the beach from Connellsville to West Newton - no more rocket tied to the back of the bike! Rain down to occasional sprinkles Getting pizza at Fox’s hoping to gather some energy for the final push to Draco (about 9 miles) May arrive after dark No signal there IIRC I pass the 300 mile total mark in a mile! Tomorrow looks like great weather for my wrap up of the GAP and the start of “new to me” for this tour! May 6 Trail from West Newton to Dravo was substantially better - hard packed and fast. —Not sure why the other portions were so bad But the GAP does recover more quickly than C&O Apparently the ACA led Eastern Express group started in the last day or two. They’re assuredly experiencing bad conditions Camp at Dravo is excellent - stocked with wood and heavenly. Pitched my tent in an Adirondack for extra privacy and went to sleep Plans - PGH for a bit then bus FF and ride until I get to a reasonable wild camp spot. May not ID the place for obvious reasons but I’ll describe elements of it. Missed Thrones last night - will watch during my break while I wait for sundown prior to my stealth camp tonight COLD night was contrasted with nice warm sun. Felt good coming to PGH but had to change from heavier gear to sun riding gear. Because it was closer to lunch I went to Urban Tap in the south side, which I really liked on my  trip last fall. Got some lower alcohol sours with a salad (it’s shocking what you crave on tour) with my bike locked to itself a few feet away on the sidewalk outside the open sliding windows. A gaggle of nearly graduate Pitt students were celebrating a bday over drinks nearby. Bus leaves near Heinz Field then a less than ideal ride. Here we go! Road route from Ambridge, PA to Kent, OH May 7 Morning came early! Did a riding morning edition —— Entered Ohio with little fanfare Shoulders shrank (at times to nothing) but drivers were good at giving a wide berth Got on Bike Route J which was low traffic but had simply awful stretches of pavement. Deep ruts and potholes plus scattered gravel everywhere. Rideable but meh. Scenic farms and houses on large plots of land dominated the day Decided to skip the stealth camping and get an inexpensive hotel about a 20 minute ride from the Kent State campus. Simply put, I need a shower worse than I need to save face as camping guy. Headwinds were gusty and tough today Mixed terrain - hills flattened a bit as I got closer to Kent but the last few miles had some eff you’ers mixed in Cheaper hotels were away from the campus and city center so I’m missing out on checking it all out. Too biked out after 68 miles to add more! Statistics Miles 234 Bus miles 16 Flats 0 Mechanicals 0 Camping nights 3 Stealth nights 1 Roofed nights 1 Mile Marker 44s Easter Egged 1 Number of times I heard "yinz" in Pittsburgh unironically 1 Pedalshift Society As always we like to close out the show with a special shoutout to the Pedalshift Society! Tonight's special guest is Adrian Hooper from Lexington, Kentucky, sexually abused for 2 years starting at age 12. He was one of many children abused in a span of over 50 years at the Fessenden School in West Newton, MA. “I can only describe it as the most frightening thing I've ever been through. Not just the sexual abuse but the physical, emotional, school-sanctioned bullying and the fear that I lived through every day I spent there.” Unable to tell his parents, Adrian eventually ran away from the school after one assault by his dorm master and this led to his father removing him from school. Now 67 years old, Adrian says his 2 years of abuse, ".. plagued me all my life. The shame and self-loathing has crippled my ability to have the confidence to succeed and many ventures." For years he struggled with PTSD, addiction, and incarceration. While trying many types of treatment, Adrian says, "The only thing that has been helpful is the fact that I am undergoing MDMA treatment for trauma and PTSD." This is currently in FDA approved phase III clinical trials. Adrian continues, “I did a lot of research before I did it. I am so excited the FDA is on board with its legal use by specialized professionals.” Adrian now works to help others with addictions and is involved in the Harm Reduction Movement. He is the co-founder of The Chooper's Foundation, a non-profit that provides addiction treatment and information. Adrian is also fighting with other Fessenden School abuse survivors continuing to seek justice. “We will not give up, we will not rest. We have over a dozen witnesses that have come forward.”
