Matt Williams is best known as the creator and executive producer of the hit series Roseanne and the co-creator and executive producer of Home Improvement, one of the most successful programs in television history. Williams joined The Cosby Show during its premiere season and worked as a writer/producer on the show for three subsequent seasons, during which time his work was honored with Emmy and Humanitas nominations, as well as sharing a Peabody Award for outstanding achievement in television writing. He also served as co-creator of the Cosby spin-off, A Different World.In 1989, Williams formed Wind Dancer Production Group with principals Carmen Finestra and David McFadzean. Under the Wind Dancer banner, Williams co-created and executive produced Home Improvement, Carol & Company, starring Carol Burnette, Buddies with Dave Chappelle, Thunder Alley, Soul Man and Costello.Once again, his work received Emmy and Humanitas nominations, as well as winning numerous People's Choice Awards.In film, Williams produced and directed Where The Heart Is, starring Natalie Portman and Ashley Judd. On the Secret Witch Show today we have Samantha Giles.  Samantha is best known as an actress who has played comedy character Bernice Blackstock in ITV 1's Emmerdale for several years. She has also been a regular character in three series of Where The Heart Is and Hollyoaks, as well as lead guest roles in many other well-known TV programmes.   She started writing about 4 years ago, inspired by a dream she had about the four witch characters that feature in her debut, Rosemary and The Witches of Pendle Hill. Other than writing and acting she has her own website, www.thesamanthagiles.co.uk where you can find out more about Samantha, including her interest in Wicca and where she sells her spell kits. "Winter settles in, but the sun continues to shine" Canopy Sounds welcomes the emerging and talented belgian producer, Greg Naïro to our mix series. Greg released the his original track "Azaar" on our Various Artist compilation earlier this year which has been supported by many melodic and dreamy DJs around the globe. With so much time spent in the studio in recent years, it is no surprise that the music emerging from his sessions is connecting with audiences far and wide. On this episode of The Troubadour we are joined by a husband and wife performing, AND songwriting duo, Thom Shepherd and Coley McCabe.  Thom is the writer of five #1 singles for other artists - “Redneck Yacht Club,” recorded by Craig Morgan, “Riding with Private Malone” recorded by David Ball, Kyle Park’s “The Night Is Young,” Josh Abbott and Pat Green’s single, “My Texas,” and Kevin Fowler’s “Beer Season.”         In total, Thom has had over 10 singles and over 100 songs recorded by artists including Easton Corbin, Pam Tillis, John Anderson, Lorrie Morgan, Colt Ford, Bucky Covington, George Jones, Trailer Choir, Montgomery Gentry, Buddy Jewell, and Cledus T. Judd. Coley McCabe is also no stranger to success in the music business.  She is a platinum-selling songwriter and she’s performed numerous times on the Grand Ole Opry.  While on RCA Records her song “Grow Young With You” was featured in the Natalie Portman / Ashley Judd film, “Where The Heart Is,” Her writing credits include the award winning group SheDaisy and legendary Loretta Lynn. She also starred in the feature film “Alabama Love Story.” During this interview with Thom and Coley we visit about the dynamics of working as a husband and wife duo in the music business while maintaining a great marriage.  As is heard in the interview, we find out that it’s important for each person in the relationship to understand when to ride “Shotgun” to the other person, and when to be the driver. Fittingly enough, Thom and Coley’s latest record is aptly titled “Shotgun” and can be picked up at www.thomandcoley.com . Thom and Coley have also found a bit of a niche within the “Trop Rock” genre which Thom describes loosely as “people who like Jimmy Buffett songs.”  The duo is now often found on show billings in tropical places with lots of sun and water!  They’ve even brought a little bit of this genre back to Texas by creating and hosting the annual “Lone Star Luau” in Marble Falls, TX (http://lonestarluau.com/).  Lonestar Luau 4 will be happening in February of 2020.  Click on the link to learn more about it and to secure tickets! Matt Williams, started as a playwright in New York, got his first television job working on “Cosby,” and then created and executive produced the hit series “Roseanne,” “Home Improvement,” and “A Different World;” three of the most successful television shows in history. During this time, his work was honored with Emmy and Humanitas nominations, as well as sharing a Peabody Award for outstanding achievement in television writing, and created shows for some of the greatest comedian/actors of our generation, including Carol Burnett, Dan Akroyd, and Dave Chappelle. In film, Williams co-wrote and produced Disney's award-winning “Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken.” He also served as executive producer for the critically acclaimed drama “Firelight” with Sophie Marceau; produced and directed “Where The Heart Is,” starring Natalie Portman and Ashley Judd; produced Nancy Meyer's romantic comedy “What Women Want,” with Mel Gibson and Helen Hunt; and co-wrote, produced and directed “Walker Payne” starring Jason Patric and Sam Shepard. Most recently, Williams’ Wind Dancer Films (along with Identity Films) produced the feature film “As Cool As I Am,” starring Claire Danes and James Marsden and “Bernie,” along with Mandalay Vision, directed by Richard Linklater and starring Jack Black and Matthew McConaughey. Matt is currently executive producing and creating a new F/X series starring George Lopez.
