What happens when redundancy hits in midlife — just as you're already questioning who you are and what you want next?In this episode of Midlife & Beyond with Jo Blackwell, I'm joined by author Sara King, who was made redundant at 54 after more than a decade in a senior role. Sara shares the shock of losing her job, the fear of being the main breadwinner, and the quieter grief of losing a professional identity later in life.We talk about age, experience, perimenopause, freelancing after redundancy, and why reinvention in midlife is rarely quick or straightforward. Sara also reflects on writing and publishing her debut novel, Fragments of Her, and what it really means to put your work into the world after 50.A thoughtful, reassuring conversation about change, courage, and beginning again.https://amzn.to/4s12jU5(Amazon affiliate link - if you buy through this link I may receive a small commission, at no extra cost to you) This is a public episode. Aydin Imani joins us with a live recording of his session from the Fragments event series in the heart of Oslo, Norway. Some words from Aydin on the event - "This recording comes from our final @frgmnts gathering of the year in Oslo. It was a night shaped by reflection, curiosity, and the quiet satisfaction of having shared many meaningful moments over the past months. We wanted to end the year in a way that felt honest and fitting for where we were at the time. It was our first all-nighter of this kind, held in a new space, with a sense of curiosity and anticipation in the room. As the opening set, my idea was to mark a transition from the warmth of summer into a more introspective period, moving toward darker tones and colder days ahead in Norway (especially) . The dance floor felt warm, intense, and foggy. Smiles came easily, and that feeling stayed with us throughout the night. The set moves through different emotional shades, balancing playfulness and drive with moments of weight and inner tension, always aiming to keep the energy rolling and alive. Looking back, this night definitely stands out as a personal highlight. Seeing Fragments grow into something that resonates, offering people a space to reflect and feel free, made it especially meaningful." Follow : https://soundcloud.com/aydinho767 Tracklist : 1. 'Fragments of us' is for anyone who's loved deeply and had to let go without ever truly moving on. It's for the person lying awake at night, replaying moments that still feel alive even though the relationship is over. For those who aren't broken by the past, but quietly shaped by it carrying love as a memory rather than a presence, and finding beauty in what once was, even when it still hurts.
This is a Grave Talks CLASSIC EPISODE!Long before “ghost hunting” had a name, Bruce Halliday was already paying attention.Growing up in a Brooklyn apartment building, Bruce experienced something that stayed with him—a deceased family friend who seemed to linger in the halls, present in a way that felt unmistakably real. It wasn't dramatic or theatrical. It was quiet, personal, and impossible to forget. That early encounter didn't fade with time. Instead, it planted a question that followed him into adulthood: if the dead remain close, how might they communicate? While others dismissed the idea, Bruce kept listening—especially to the sounds buried inside static and radio interference.Years of curiosity and experimentation eventually led to the development of what became known as the ghost box—a device that transformed random frequencies into something far more unsettling. This week's contribution showcases one of Ireland's longest-serving DJs, as we host Dublin-based DJ Aoife Nic Canna to the series. Lock in for the next hour as she exhibits her slick selections and effortless technique throughout. For our latest iteration of the Local Selection, we welcome a legendary Irish vinyl DJ, Aoife Nic Canna to the series. Her contribution acts as the 292nd edition, where she sifts through her library, sharing various old school deep cuts in house and adjacent genres. A range of soft, elegant and warm selections can be heard over the course of the recording. Ideal listening for this glum Wednesday. Aoife has established a significant legacy during her 30+ years as a DJ. Acting as a central force in the Irish dance music scene since its first moves in the early 1990's. She was a founding member of the seminal Horny Organ Tribe. Dubbed the 'first lady of Irish house', she earned regular appearances at culture-defining nights and institutions like Cork's Mór Disco, Dublin's Temple of Sound, and Manchester's Hacienda. Continuing to hold several residencies across Ireland over her expansive career, she has, since Covid lifted, returned to playing regularly across Ireland. Some notable venues include Connollys of Leap, Opium, Hen's Teeth, Izakaya, The Bernard Shaw and Pawn Shop. Some other accolades include support for Inner City, spinning at Ealú le Grá and Paradise Lost in Ibiza, Carl Cox for District 8 and perhaps the biggest of all, supporting Soft Cell and OMD at St. Anne's Park to an audience of 20,000 people. Alongside DJing, in 2012 Aoife created and produced a six-part documentary on Irish club history called 'Folklore from the Dancefloor'. Listen here. This hour-long recording emits a metaphorical sense of fresh air, as Aoife shares a range of lesser-heard tunes with us for this edition. Fragments of punchy house tracks, some acid and slightly progressive, emotive selections in this mix, hitting all the right notes. Fortunately, Aoife has been so kind to share the tracklist for this mix with us. This is the recording of my presentation of my paper, "Kierkegaard's Philosophical Fragments as Gilsonian Christian Philosophy," during the International Etienne Gilson Society satellite session at the American Catholic Philosophical Association 2015 conference. The recording also includes some lively discussion in the Q&A portion following my reading of the paper. In the paper, I discuss key features of Gilson's conception of Christian philosophy developed during the 1930s debates about the topic, examine why Kierkegaard would seem to be an unlikely prospect for Gilsonian Christian philosophy, but then argue that Kierkegaard's work Philosophical Fragments actually does fit Gilson's conception of Christian philosophy quite well. Was Goliath just a myth? For nearly 3,000 years, there was no physical evidence—until 2005. During excavations at the ancient Philistine city of Gath, archaeologists uncovered a pottery shard bearing a name that appears to read “Goliath” in ancient script. Found in the very city the Bible says Goliath lived, this discovery marks the first time his name appears in the archaeological record. What if you could sit across from someone who spoke with those who walked with Jesus, but everything he told you sounded almost too strange to believe? Papias of Hierapolis claimed to preserve eyewitness testimony from the apostolic generation, including bizarre sayings of Jesus about supernatural vineyards and a grotesque account of Judas' death that will haunt you. This bishop's writings have vanished from history, leaving only fragments that raise an urgent question: Was he a faithful guardian of apostolic truth, or a well-meaning collector of legendary embellishments? Tune in now to learn why the early Church couldn't decide either, and why it matters for how we understand the Gospels today.Join the ConversationHead over to our private Facebook community, where listeners discuss episodes, grapple with historical questions, and share insights on how these ancient stories shape our faith today. It begins as a familiar request: a family hoping for reassurance, a sense of peace, maybe even a final message from someone they loved and lost. What unfolds instead pulls everyone involved into far more unsettling territory. During a late-night investigation, communication attempts drift off course, and a voice breaks through that doesn't belong to anyone expected—or welcomed. Fragments of emotion surface. Fear. Urgency. A presence that doesn't sound calm or comforted, but desperate to be heard. As the session continues, details surface that refuse to stay vague, pointing toward a story that may never have been finished… or properly buried. The atmosphere shifts from curiosity to concern, and the weight of responsibility becomes impossible to ignore. When communication opens doors you didn't intend to unlock, how do you decide whether to keep listening… or walk away? #TrueGhostStory #ParanormalInvestigation #GhostBoxSession #UnfinishedBusiness #HauntedFamily #SpiritCommunication #RealGhostStories #ParanormalPodcast #ChillingEncounters #UnexplainedVoices Love real ghost stories? Learn three things you can do to help fill your church
A unique study of the only physical manuscript containing Sir Gawain and the Green Knight as both a material and literary object. In this book, Arthur Bahr takes a fresh look at the four poems and twelve illustrations of the so-called “Pearl-Manuscript,” the only surviving medieval copy of two of the best-known Middle English poems: Pearl and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. In Chasing the Pearl-Manuscript, Bahr explores how the physical manuscript itself enhances our perception of the poetry, drawing on recent technological advances (such as spectroscopic analysis) to show the Pearl-Manuscript to be a more complex piece of material, visual, and textual art than previously understood. By connecting the manuscript's construction to the intricate language in the texts, Bahr suggests new ways to understand both what poetry is and what poetry can do. Arthur Bahr is professor of literature and MacVicar Faculty Fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is the author of Fragments and Assemblages: Forming Compilations of Medieval London, also published by the University of Chicago Press. Morteza Hajizadeh is a Ph.D. graduate in English from the University of Auckland in New Zealand. "This composition was created using exclusively a recording of a traditional Vietnamese funeral ceremony. Fragments were taken from the original track and subsequently manipulated. "In particular, the resonances produced by the percussive instrument were extracted, thus creating long sound bands, onto which the distant dirge is grafted. The intent was to create an internal acoustic vision imagined from the deceased's perspective." Funeral soundscape in Vietnam reimagined by Nicola Fumo Frattegiani.

When Audrey-Anne Bouchard was a teenager, she found out she had a rare degenerative eye disease. Now, she creates immersive theatre performances for blind and partially sighted audiences, turning her experience living with a visual impairment into a professional strength. Her latest show, “Fragments: celle qui m'habitait déjà,” engages audience members through all the senses but sight. If you can see, you're asked to wear an eye-shade during the performance. Audrey-Anne talks to Tom Power about how she approaches storytelling beyond the visual, and how that brings people together in unexpected ways.
Lisanne Froon and Kris Kremers were two young Dutch women from Amersfoort, Netherlands, who traveled to Panama in March 2014 for a volunteer trip. Both in their early twenties—Froon was 22 and Kremers 21—they were adventurous, responsible, and well-educated, described by friends and family as bright and full of life. Their plan was to spend several weeks in Boquete, a mountain town popular with tourists, where they would work with local children and explore the nearby jungles and trails during their free time. Before their volunteer work officially began, they decided to take a hike on April 1, 2014, along the scenic El Pianista trail, a route known for its beauty but also its remote and treacherous terrain. When the two failed to return, a massive search effort was launched involving local authorities, Dutch investigators, and volunteer teams. Days later, some of their belongings—including Lisanne's camera and Kris's backpack—were discovered along a riverbank deep in the jungle. The recovered photos and data painted a chilling picture: early selfies from their hike showed them happy and carefree, but later nighttime images suggested they were lost, disoriented, and possibly injured. Fragments of their bones and remains were eventually found, but their cause of death remains unresolved. The mysterious circumstances of their disappearance—combined with eerie photographs and strange phone activity—have fueled countless theories ranging from tragic accident to foul play, turning their story into one of the most haunting modern travel mysteries.to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.com

EP #342 - Fragments & Wholeness - A Solo Show with your host, Susan Burrell In this Empowering Chat, I share a few thoughts about the fragmented world we are currently living in right now. So many people are feeling scattered, broken, or just plain exhausted—by what's happening nationally, globally, and even personally. I have been asking myself, “Who am I now?” My hope is to find resolution so that I can somehow rise above all these fragments and find a way to breathe a little more freely. Perhaps you have been feeling it too—that sense of being shattered. And with that comes grief, astonishment, and a whole mix of emotions that can be tough to navigate. Maybe you too have caught yourself wondering, “Who am I now?” or even, “Am I supposed to be doing something different?” Lately, I've noticed fragments of anger and even hatred surfacing in myself and around me. It's not a comfortable place to be. I've been trying to find some common ground, but the polarity out there—the way families and friends are being pulled apart—can feel so heavy. Sometimes it feels like those broken pieces might never get put back together. That's why awareness of self—really listening within—feels more important than ever. I think so many of us are sinking into the quicksand of emotional despair and trying to find a way to rise above it. I truly believe that something as simple as intentional breathing can help. When we stop, breathe and create just a little space, we can start to look at the fragments inside us—and in that stillness we may start to recognize the fragments within that need care, compassion, and healing. Here we present a live recording from Franko sourced deep within the Norwegian woods at this years Fragments forest event. Words from the artist - This recording is from my closing set at the second forest rave we hosted with Fragments in the Norwegian woods this summer – a night that turned into our biggest production so far, and one I'm really proud of. The set starts in complete darkness, slowly building in tempo and groove, shifting into lighter melodies and psychedelic playfulness as the sun began to rise. Morning sets like these are some of my favorites: balancing the ups and downs, keeping people on the floor without pushing too hard, while leaving space to breathe. A mix of joy, freedom, and the quiet melancholy of summer coming to an end. As the sun rose over the hill behind me, we decided to extend the set by half an hour to let the first rays hit the dance floor through the smoke and create a truly magical morning. It gave me the chance to play some of the most beautiful tracks I know and gently bring everything to a halt. It was definitely one of the most fun and meaningful moments I've had behind the decks. How do you design a world that honors Hawaiian history while telling a story on a global stage? For Production Designer Jean-François Campeau, the answer was equal parts creativity, cultural respect, and collaboration. This week on Below the Line, Skid is joined by Jean-François “JF” Campeau, Production Designer of Chief of War, the Apple TV+ historical drama starring Jason Momoa. Two special guests from the Smithsonian Institution add their perspectives: Kalewa Correa, Curator of Hawaiʻi and the Pacific at the Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Center, and Halena Kapuni-Reynolds, Associate Curator of Native Hawaiian History and Culture at the National Museum of the American Indian. We cover: JF's first reaction to the project — both inspired and intimidated by the cultural weight of the story Research at the Bishop Museum and working closely with Hawaiian and Māori cultural advisors to ground the sets in authenticity Constructing major builds like temples, strongholds, and the bone tower — with blessings and protocols woven into the process Carving sacred objects from authentic materials, including shipping an ʻōhiʻa tree from Hawai‘i to New Zealand for sculpting Collaborating with Pacific artisans on woven mats, sails, and canoes that carried both cultural and cinematic weight Blending Hawaiian and New Zealand landscapes, balancing cultural similarities with visual continuity challenges Jason Momoa's insistence on filming battle sequences on real Hawaiian lava fields — including a shoot delayed by Mauna Loa's eruption Capturing the gravity of historically significant moments, like the Olowalu massacre carried out under Captain Simon Metcalfe, with sensitivity to sacred ground JF's personal reflections on how the project changed him, and the values he carried forward from working alongside Native Hawaiian and Māori communities The conversation also touches on recommended resources for further learning, including Ke Kumu Aupuni: The Foundation of Hawaiian Nationhood by Samuel Kamaka and Fragments of Hawaiian History by John Papa Iʻi, suggested by our Smithsonian co-hosts. What emerges is a portrait of a production designer whose work went beyond craft to embrace cultural exchange — designing a world that feels both epic and deeply rooted in respect.

A 27-year-old listener in a three-year poly relationship wants simple guardrails—tell me when you're out with someone else, if you're spending the night, and shut it down if they try to edge me out. He resists, agrees begrudgingly, then doesn't follow through. She's financially stuck, sharing a cramped place he pays for, and wonders when it's time to plan her exit.
You've arrived at the threshold of the between space - that shimmering quantum field where every possibility you've ever imagined and a trillion more you haven't are dancing together in perfect potential. Right now, as you're reading these words, you already know what it feels like to be completely whole. Your body remembers it, even if your mind has forgotten. There's something stirring in your cells, isn't there? A recognition. A whisper of remembrance. You see, your soul has been playing the most elaborate game of hide and seek with itself across dimensions, lifetimes, and realities. And today... today is the day the game ends. Not because you've been searching, but because you've finally stopped running from what you've always been. This isn't meditation where you quiet your mind. This isn't hypnosis where you go somewhere else. This is remembering. This is coming home to the cosmic truth that's been pulsing in your DNA since before time learned how to count. And I wonder... I wonder how quickly you'll recognize the fragments that have been waiting for you in the labyrinth of your own soul. Some might surprise you with how familiar they feel. Others might shock you with how powerful they've become in your absence. But all of them... every single one... has been calling your name in frequencies only your heart could hear. You already know this is going to change everything. You can feel it, can't you? That electric anticipation humming just beneath your awareness. That's not excitement about what's coming - that's recognition of what's already here, already true, already you. The labyrinth exists in the space between your heartbeats, in the pause between your thoughts, in the infinite moment between who you think you are and who you've always been. And the beautiful thing about labyrinths? Unlike mazes designed to confuse you, labyrinths are designed to lead you exactly where you need to go. Your soul fragments aren't lost. They're not broken. They're not hiding from you. They're waiting for you to remember you had the power to call them home all along.
