Born in rural Massachusetts to a family of makers and tinkerers, Charles de Lisle grew up obsessed with how things work. After finding his way to the San Francisco Bay Area, he got involved with the design scene, first launching a line of lamps, then helping to start a commercial firm. Eventually de Lisle went out on his own, and has earned acclaim for his residential work, including placement on the AD100. On this episode of podcast he speaks with host Dennis Scully about why he loves clients who are risk takers, how a chance encounter with a Michael Taylor room changed his life, and why he likes to be called a decorator, not a designer. The data analytics company that studies customer satisfaction released their 2026 North America Airline Satisfaction Study that shows passengers are generally happy with the state of travel. During the course of a year that saw heavy flight delays and cancellations, crowded airports and rising ticket prices and baggage fees, airlines in North America still managed to deliver stand-out passenger experiences. The JD power 2026 North America airline satisfaction study shows the overall satisfaction rate up 8 points (on a 1,000-point scale) year over year, with improvement occurring across all segments. However, as airfares have begun to skyrocket in 2026, airlines may soon find it difficult to offset high costs with great service, and customers can expect to see a lot of new fees this summer for fuel surcharges and checked bags. So, will travellers balk at higher prices or if they do travel, will they be starting their vacation in a lousy mood? In this episode of In This Economy?!, host Mike Eppel talks to Michael Taylor, senior managing director of travel, hospitality, retail and customer service at JD power, to discuss their recent findings, and what it could mean going forward. For many of us, H-E-B is so much more than a grocery store; it's a cornerstone of the community. In moments of crisis, H-E-B shows up as a lifeline. For local makers, it offers a path to get homegrown products onto the shelves. And for everyday shoppers, it's a place that feels unmistakably Texan (butter tortillas included). Host Nikki DaVaughn is joined by Heidi Post, Senior Director of Public Affairs for Central Texas at H-E-B, to unpack how this beloved brand has earned such deep loyalty and why, for so many, it feels almost like a religion. In this deeply grounded conversation, Boysen sits down with longtime friend and transformational teacher Michael Taylor to explore optimism, masculinity, race, and inner freedom.Michael shares his journey from growing up in poverty to losing everything—marriage, finances, home—and how those experiences became the foundation for a life rooted in purpose and peace. Together, they examine outdated models of masculinity, the emotional health crisis facing men, and why inner work is essential for both personal and cultural transformation.A central focus of the episode is Michael's documentary Shattering Black Male Stereotypes, which challenges limiting narratives around Black men by highlighting responsibility, possibility, and lived success—without denying the reality of systemic oppression. This episode is a thoughtful invitation to question inherited beliefs, redefine strength, and remember that peace, purpose, and power are cultivated from within.https://coachmichaeltaylor.com/ Check out the "Shatter https://shatterthestereotypes.com/moviemtaylor@coachmichaeltaylor.com or 713-303-2067 BetterHelp: Get 10% Off Your First Month Of Therapy The ManKind Podcast has partnered with Betterhelp to make it easier for listeners to access licensed mental health therapists who can aid them in their mental health journey. A brutal killing in 1974 shattered the quiet town of Ossett and left investigators confronting one of Britain's most unsettling possession claims. In the hours before the violence, ministers believed they were fighting unseen forces inside a small church, pushing Michael Taylor through a "deliverance" that spiraled far beyond their control. What followed fractured the thin line between faith and reality, sending a frightened community scrambling for answers. In this episode, we unravel the ignored signs, the clergy's fraught involvement, and the aftermath that cast a long shadow over Ossett. Blink of an Eye (Star Trek: Voyager, S6 E12) was recommended by Sandy Cleary, she/her who said: I've always loved "Blink of an Eye." I like stories about history, and stories that feel epic by having some mechanism to take the reader from the present to the past, or by exposing them to a sense of scale that really captures the grand sweep of human history. The "where we've come from tells us why we wanted to come from there" narrative. Walter Miller's Canticle for Leibowitz, say, or the Babylon 5 episode "The Deconstruction of Falling Stars" that IMO transparently draws from it.In that same way, "Blink of an Eye" is the Voyager writers having used the main deflector to remodulate Robert Forward's 1980 novel Dragon's Egg. But here, I love how the framing device captures both the scale of capital-p Progress and the desire to explore and understand the universe—the kind of optimism that, on its best days, Trek has always been good at embodying. And I love seeing the evolution from making offerings to this strange new apparition, to making efforts to communicate, to the inevitable first contact. It is a story about well-intentioned people trying to make the best sense they can of a vast and mysterious universe, without real antagonists—where even the figures who would normally be antagonists, like the hawks in the military, are clearly acting in good faith. In this it reminds me of Close Encounters of the Third Kind, which also inspired my current journey. I think you could draw a direct link between "Blink of an Eye" and me changing my degree from linguistics to anthropology, and probably to the kind of approach I've taken whenever I need to write fantasy. Also, it's a great Picardo vehicle. Picardo's EMH, like Data (TNG), was theoretically on a journey to become more "human." The difference is that the EMH was always finding new experiences and *loving the hell out of them* rather than clinically tilting his head and going "well. That happened." He has the same breathless excitement here as he did in, say, "Message in a Bottle"—for mostly the same reasons and with the same mix of passion and humor that, I think, really makes him "work" as a character. Both Picardo as an actor and the EMH as a character are in absolutely top form. Finally, I'm a sucker for the extremely cheap trick of old people knowing that their lifelong goal has been accomplished. Daniel Dae Kim getting to watch the Voyager's departure makes me choke up every time.Blink of an Eye first aired on January 19, 2000, written by story by Michael Taylor, teleplay by Joe Menosky, and directed by Gabrielle BeaumontVoyager is trapped in orbit about a planet with a spacetime differential such that, while its inhabitants live through years, Voyager experiences mere minutes. The Joy of Trek is hosted by Khaki & Kay, with editing & production by Chief Engineer Greg and music by Fox Amoore (Bandcamp | Bluesky)Send us your recommendations, or support us on Patreon.Find us at joyoftrek.com · Twitter · Facebook

In this chilling episode of The Wandering Road, we venture into the heart of 1970s England to uncover one of the most disturbing and infamous cases of demonic possession and religious mania ever recorded.Michael Taylor, a seemingly ordinary husband and father from the quiet town of Ossett, found himself at the center of an exorcism gone tragically wrong. What began as a spiritual intervention by deeply religious community members escalated into a horrifying ordeal that ended in bloodshed—the brutal murder of his wife Christine and the family dog. But what really happened that night? Was it truly a case of demonic possession, or something far more human and horrifying?Support the showSOCIAL MEDIATwitter: @TWRoadpodcastIG: twroadpodcastWant to be a guest or share your paranormal experiences? Best Pick with John Dorney, Jessica Regan and Tom Salinsky Episode 317. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Released 30 April 2025 Today we watched two contrasting episodes of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. We kicked off with an episode from the fifth season, the celebratory romp Trials and Tribble-ations in which the 24th century crew revisits the action of the classic original series episode The Trouble with Tribbles. Pretty much all the senior writing staff had a go at this one. The story is credited to Ira Steven Behr, Hans Beimler and Robert Hewitt Wolfe and the teleplay to Ronald D Moore and René Echevarria. It was directed by Jonathan West, and it was first shown on 4 November 1996. We followed this up with In the Pale Moonlight from towards the end of the sixth season, airing on 15 April 1998. The story is by Peter Allan Fields and the screenplay is credited to Michael Taylor, although Ronald D Moore heavily rewrote it. It was directed by Victor Lobl and it earned the full five stars from me (in fact, both episodes did). These and hundreds more episodes are covered in the second volume of my Star Trek chronicle which is now available from all the usual places, including… From the publisher https://www.pen-and-sword.co.uk/Star-Trek-Discovering-the-TV-Series-Hardback/p/51781 UK Amazon https://amzn.to/4lzI1hN US Amazon https://www.amazon.com/Star-Trek-Discovering-Voyager-1993-1999/dp/1399034995 UK bookstore https://www.waterstones.com/book/star-trek-discovering-the-tv-series/tom-salinsky/9781399034999 US bookstore https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/star-trek-tom-salinsky/1146305492?ean=9781399034999 To send in your questions, comments, thoughts and ideas, you can join our Facebook group, find us on BlueSky https://bsky.app/profile/bestpickpod.bsky.social or email us on bestpickpod@gmail.com. In this episode, Greg Jenner is joined in nineteenth-century England by Dr Michael Taylor and comedian Sara Pascoe to learn all about pioneering palaeontologist Mary Anning.Born to a cabinet-maker father who collected and sold fossils to make extra money, Anning went fossil hunting from a young age. Returning to the podcast filmmaker Julia Loktev ("The Loneliest Planet", "Day Night Day Night") and the editor Michael Taylor. The two have a new documentary project called "My Undesirable Friends: Part 1 — Last Air in Moscow" which is broken into 5 episodes and is screening as part of the New York Film Festival's main slate. This from the New York Film Festival website: American filmmaker Loktev, born in the Soviet Union, returned to Moscow in 2021 to make a documentary on the persistence of independent journalism in Putin's Russia—just months, as it turned out, before the country's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. With her friend Anna Nemzer, a talk show journalist for TV Rain, Russia's last remaining independent news channel, Loktev ends up immersing herself with a group of young women fighting to ensure the vocalization of dissent and outspoken criticism of the country—even as they are branded by the government as “foreign agents,” their careers and lives increasingly at risk as the country creeps toward war. Structured in five chapters, Loktev's film, the climactic days of which were filmed in Moscow during the first week of the invasion, when most independent journalists fled the country, is an extraordinary vérité document of a moment of immense change and anxiety, as well as a vital depiction of the eternal hope that so many in Russia hold for living in a democratic state. Screening in two parts: Chapters 1–3 (198m), Chapters 4–5 (124m).
It's time for our summer tradition at Here's the Thing, where staff members choose their favorite conversations from the archives in our Summer Staff Picks series. This week, we revisit Alec Baldwin's 2023 interview with documentary filmmaker James Jones, who tells the unbelievable story of CEO-turned-fugitive Carlos Ghosn in “Wanted: The Escape of Carlos Ghosn.” In 2018, the former auto executive of Nissan and Renault was arrested in Japan on charges of financial misconduct. He escaped prosecution by being smuggled out of the country…in a box. Jones, director of the BAFTA-winning “Chernobyl: The Last Tapes,” explores questions surrounding CEO excess and a potential corporate takedown in this 2023 Apple TV+ series. Alec Baldwin speaks with Jones about getting Ghosn to be interviewed for the series, the people who suffered collateral damage and if Ghosn, now residing in Lebanon, will ever be held accountable. And in an additional recent interview, Alec speaks with Michael Taylor, the Green Beret who coordinated Ghosn's escape, about how he became involved in the plot, what it was like for him serving time in a Japanese prison for his role in the affair and if he and Ghosn ever crossed paths following his release.
