The thing about boundaries is that they are much more complex than most people assume. The world of boundary-setting is rarely colored with clearly defined black-and-white choices. Today's episode is a conversation with my friend Bethany about her relationship with her father and how she handled boundaries in ways that felt authentic to her. We are discussing how boundaries come into play in the relationships we have and the decision-making process we use. Join us to learn more! Show Highlights: ● A little background on Bethany's dad, their relationship, and how she grew up not feeling wanted and approved by him ● How Bethany's relationship with her dad got worse as she became an adult and encountered her personal addiction issues ● How Bethany learned hard lessons about communicating with her dad ● Why Bethany decided to maintain her relationship with her dad—even though he gave her every reason not to ● How Bethany set hard boundaries by not engaging with him when he was drinking and verbally abusive to her ● How extra complexities came into their relationship when his health declined and he needed her more and more ● Why Bethany's decisions to engage and re-engage were never about believing he would change ● Why the boundary decisions we make are less about what is right or wrong and more about how we can remain an authentic, whole person ● How Bethany handled his terminal illness in ways that left her with no regrets Resources and Links: Connect with KC: Website, TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook Get KC's book, How to Keep House While Drowning We love the sponsors that make this show possible! Research shows that the average adult makes around 35,000 conscious decisions every day. That’s a staggering number. Some of those decisions are small and routine, while others are large and life-shaping. Sometimes, choices that seem minor carry major consequences—and at other times, we treat significant decisions as if they’re insignificant. So how can we learn to make better decisions? In this episode, Executive Pastor Glenn Goldsberry introduces the first part of our decision-making framework: Is it Biblical? Drawing from the story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, Glenn offers practical and insightful guidance to help us navigate decisions with clarity and conviction. In this special episode of our show we had the immense pleasure to sit down for a conversation with Jon Raymond, who is a novelist short fiction writer and a screenwriter. He is also a lifelong collaborator with Kelly Reichardt, with whom he co-wrote six movies (including three out of four we talked about this month). We talk about his process and his inspirations as a writer and a prominent champion of the American Pacific North West. We also attempt to untangle the complex relationship between a writer and a director and how it works in the context of independent cinema, his opinion on some of the characters we talked about this month, and we also try to find out if there is in fact some wisdom behind the title of Meek's Cutoff. Wednesday, April 23 - Host and American Family Farmer, Doug Stephan www.eastleighfarm.com shares the news affecting small farmers in America, including a focus on the trade war and the cost of new vs pre-owned equipment, a rise in importing eggs amid the continuation of the avian flu, and economic assistance payments. Then, Doug introduces us to Rachel Hopkins, an Ag Business Field Specialist with University of Missouri Extension, who has a long background in farming as she was raised on a multi-generation dairy farm. Doug and Rachel discuss the hardship family farmers are facing, where money is being hemorrhaged, and delving into the family finance aspect and where to “tighten the belt” and stop “keeping up with the Jones's.” Today's financial climate is causing farmers to make hard cuts to farm budgets, but Hopkins says they should not overlook household expenses. As a family farmer and mom, Rachel knows first hand the added stress of off-budget costs, especially when $20-$30 here or there multiple times quickly add up. Lastly, Doug opines the importance of female farmers, financial success in farmings, and modern farming via the AI influence. Website: AmericanFamilyFarmerShow.com Social Media: @GoodDayNetworks

The amount of weight loss drugs on the market is about to shrink dramatically and cut thousands of Americans off from cheaper obesity drugs as the FDA halts the sale of copycats. Companies and pharmacies were able to sell a cheaper alternative to the weight loss drug Wegovy and Ozempic because of a shortage of a protein called semaglutide, which helps regulate appetite. But now that shortage is over and the FDA says the companies that provide cheaper alternatives must stop. Some will have to stop production by April 22. Joining Minnesota Now host Nina Moini to break down what this means for patients is Dr. Laurie Sund. She's the medical director for the Medical Weight Management clinic at MHealth Fairview.

But listen to hear some hilarious and interesting phone calls that only last 3 minutes (we get right to the point!) and get cut off regardless of where we are in the conversation. So give this one a listen and make sure to always keep your phone near by because you never know when your phone will be ringing for our next 3 minute cutoff call!
In this episode of the show we continue our journey West together with Kelly Reichardt and Michelle Williams as we discuss her 2010 anti-western Meek's Cutoff. Over the course of our conversation you will hear us talk about Reichardt subverting the expectations of a typical western and how critics at the time clearly didn't get it, how the movie gives its women protagonists agency and how it functions as a takedown of the American Dream. We also talk about how expensive cheap films probably are, how important it is to take a chair to a lookout and just how unrecognizable Bruce Greenwood was in his trapper getup.Tune in and enjoy!Hosts: Jakub Flasz & Randy BurrowsIntro: Infraction - CassetteOutro: Infraction - DaydreamHead over to uncutgemspodcast.com to find all of our archival episodes and more!Follow us on Twitter (@UncutGemsPod), IG (@UncutGemsPod) and Facebook (@UncutGemsPod)Buy us a coffee over at Ko-Fi.com (ko-fi.com/uncutgemspod)Subscribe to our Patreon! China raised tariffs over night to 125% and says that's the highest they will go as it essentially cuts off all products moving from the USA to China and they cut off Hollywood films. Again, so what? We don't send much to China and our films are 3% of their film industry as they already kept American culture out of their country. Josh Hawley is having fun with all this from the political side as he says libs know this is the right play but have a hard time saying anything nice about Trump. We also get the news that a giant pharma company is investing billions to build 7 factories in the USA to avoid tariffs on their drugs. Let's go! The Royals take 3 out of 4 from the Twins, even as the bats are struggling, and now hit the road for ten days in really bad weather. This is going to be a slog. A golfer takes a leak on the course at Augusta National and apparently they will let him keep playing. Big names dot the leader board. A high profile college basketball coach makes a surprising move, a ride at Worlds of Fun closes and our song of the week is an ode to small businesses everywhere.
