Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, released in 1989, as the first of the Indy films that I saw by myself. Much like in the other films, it follows the intrepid archaeologist, played by the Harrison Ford, as he embarks on a quest not just for the mythical Holy Grail but also for his estranged father, portrayed by Sean Connery. This new dynamic injects a unique layer of family drama and humor into the series. The chemistry between Ford and Connery is particularly notable, providing both comedic relief and a heartwarming exploration of father-son relationships. This film marks a return to the lighter-toned roots of the original Raiders of the Lost Ark. Sure, it embraces the classic elements of treasure hunting and globe-trotting escapades, but lacks the horror elements of Temple of Doom. Director Steven Spielberg and producer George Lucas, in what would have been the series capper, masterfully balance action-packed sequences with poignant moments, creating a compelling mix of thrill and sentiment. This installment also benefits from John Williams' continued participation. The grandmaster of film music elevates the film. From chasing the Grail to reconciling with his father, Williams tells the story through music that is as re-listenable as the film is re-watchable. In this episode itself, I'll delve into how The Last Crusade not only continues the legacy of Indiana Jones but also enhances it. We get backstory and themes of redemption and family relationships that weren't in the first two films. As with the other two episodes, we will revisit the relationship between the dynamic duo of Spielberg and Lucas that led to this globe-trotting adventure. Whether you're revisiting this film or discovering it for the first time, this films is an amazing cinematic experience that only adds to the unending appeal of Indiana Jones. This installment also benefits from John Williams' iconic score, which elevates the film's grandeur and supports its epic narrative. From chasing the Grail to reconciling with his father, Indiana Jones's journey in this film is not only a physical adventure but an emotional story that continues to resonate with audiences. In this episode, we delve into how The Last Crusade not only continues the legacy of Indiana Jones but also enhances it by weaving in themes of redemption and kinship. We'll explore the dynamic between Spielberg and Lucas that led to this balanced mix of adventure and personal storytelling, solidifying The Last Crusade's place as a beloved classic in the action-adventure genre. Whether you're revisiting this film or discovering it for the first time, it promises an amazing cinematic experience that celebrates the unending appeal of Indiana Jones.

Released on 25th December 2002 it qualifies as a Xmas movie in our minds. The BTW team tackles this Steven Spielberg-directed visual masterpiece and enjoy all 2hrs and 20 minutes of it.Catch Me If You Can (2002) is a classic crime drama that follows the story of Frank Abagnale Jr., played by Leonardo DiCaprio, an ambitious young con artist on the run from FBI Agent Carl Hanratty, played by Tom Hanks. This movie dives into the life of a master forger and impostor as he races around the globe in a daring attempt to outrun his pursuers and amass a fortune in stolen money. With its charming characters, captivating storyline, and escapist tone, Catch Me If You Can is an entertaining romp through many different countries and one man's incredible journey of self-discovery. It's easy to get swept up in Frank's shenanigans and feel like anything is possible. This film is based on a true story, which makes it all the more fascinating. Director Steven Spielberg does an excellent job of keeping the audience engaged and invested in the characters. The performances by DiCaprio and Hanks are top-notch, and the supporting cast is also quite good. The film's visuals are impressively realistic, making it easy to get lost in the world of con artists and impostors. Catch Me If You Can is an entertaining crime drama with captivating characters and a fascinating true story at its core. Perhaps, but big tech players like Facebook are betting on the idea becoming a reality. Last year, CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the rebranding of the company to Meta, a move that appears to be a strategic positioning tactic for the next digital frontier.   What exactly is the metaverse? What are the challenges in building an interactive virtual world? Which technologies will get us there? How will players – particularly younger ones – be protected while engaging with others?

As a kid, Eytan Rockaway would film toy soldiers in an effort to model his hero, Director Steven Spielberg. By the time he was twelve, he was shooting short films with friends, then after the army, he went to NYU to study film. In his new film ‘Lansky,' Harvey Keitel stars as Meyer Lansky. The description reads, “When the aging Meyer Lansky is investigated one last time by the Feds who suspect he has stashed away millions of dollars over half a century, the retired gangster spins a dizzying tale, revealing the untold truth about his life as the notorious boss of Murder Inc. and the National Crime Syndicate.” In this interview, Rockaway talks about the constant battle to make Independent Films, his obsession with mixed genres, how he spends time between films, how he creates “the Director's Bible,” and the scene he hated to cut in ‘Lansky' that might have changed the movie. He is known for his work on Jaws (1975), Santa Barbara (1984) and One More Shot (1996). We talk about working with Director Steven Spielberg and alongside heavyweights like Roy Scheider and Richard Dreyfus. He was born and raised in the area and Voorhees still lives up there and owns a restaurant called The Wharf Pub, located at 3 Main Street in Edgartown, Massachusetts. He shared many memories but one of his favorites was decades after the filming of Jaws (1975), Lee Fierro, who plays Mrs. Kintner, walked into a seafood restaurant and noticed that the menu had an "Alex Kintner Sandwich". She commented that she had played his mother so many years ago. The owner of the restaurant ran out to meet her - none other than Jeffrey Voorhees, who had played her son. They hadn't seen each other since the original movie shoot. Patreon link: https://www.patreon.com/WorldofWalley World of Walley is nothing without YOU the listener and YOUR support.  As summer comes to a close, we cast our attention to the granddaddy of all summer blockbusters - Jaws. Arguably one of the best films ever made, Jaws stands the test of time, still delivering suspense, adventure, and outright terror in one beautifully filmed package. Come along with the Planet 8 crew as we reminisce about one of our favorite films.Jaws is an amazing film, especially given that the mechanical shark didn't work most of the time! Director Steven Spielberg had to work around this, filming in such a way as to indicate the presence of the shark without the shark actually visible. This actually made the film much more exciting, because you never knew exactly where or when the shark was going to attack. Thankfully, they got the shark to work just enough for the dramatic scenes in the final act.But so much went right with Jaws. Despite the studio wanting big names, Spielberg was able to pull together the perfect cast.  The characters are all so believable, so watchable. Much of the dialog was ad-libbed. But that marvelous scene on the Orca, where Quint tells Brody and Hooper about his experience on the USS Indianapolis, is absolutely amazing. It's a testament to both great writing and acting.Of course, you can't talk about Jaws without discussing that theme...duh duh...duh duh duh duh...only the legendary John Williams could turn such a simple theme into perfect fit for a film. How many times has someone hummed the theme while in a pool or the ocean? Everyone knows what that tune means.Jaws set off a wave (pun intended) of copycats, none anywhere near as interesting as the originator. For that matter, none of the Jaws sequels were even close to their papa. It also had a huge impact on film-makers and the industry, paving the way for the summer blockbuster, and massive merchandising deals. Outside of film, it also changed the way people look at sharks, perhaps unfairly, and how we look at the ocean. Forty five years later, we're all still afraid to go back in the water.Normally we end our show with our Sensor Sweep, but we were rocked by the passing of actor Chadwick Boseman on August 28th. The  news was heart-breaking. Only 43 years old, the Black Panther star had been battling colon cancer since 2016. It's mind-boggling to think that Boseman continued to act and do charity work through his illness and treatment. By all accounts, he seemed like a wonderful person. His impact on a generation of African American kids cannot be over-estimated. This is a big loss and we are truly saddened by his passing. We welcome your thoughts and feedback! Just about everyone involved in the production of the World War II epic "Saving Private Ryan" was tasked with pushing the envelope in terms of what could be seen and heard onscreen -- except composer John Williams. Director Steven Spielberg and Williams made the wise decision to keep music out of the key battle scenes, and even other key scenes that would have normally used music, to keep us immersed in this tale of a group of soldiers sent to retrieve the last surviving Ryan brother. Host Jeff Commings is joined by Richard Fish for this episode, and Fish talks about his connection to the "Hymn to the Fallen" piece Williams wrote for the film. The two also discuss the use of thematic material in the film, which might be tough to discern as the tone of the score is often very low-key and subdued.

The Oscars are making what's described as a one-time-only concession by allowing movies initially made available via streaming or video on demand to compete for best picture in next year's awards. The decision came from the board for the group that presides over the Academy Awards, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, also made several other changes to the awards process, among them the consolidation of sound editing and sound mixing into one "sound" category. The Academy cited the forced closure of theatres due to the Covid-19 pandemic, noting that only movies with a "previously planned theatrical release" would be eligible. Previously, films needed to have at least a week-long theatrical run in order to qualify for consideration. In a statement, Academy president David Rubin and CEO Dawn Hudson stressed that the organization's commitment to the theatrical experience is "unchanged and unwavering." The Academy has faced pressure to relax its rules as Netflix, especially, pushes for inclusion in the awards competition.Director Steven Spielberg, among other high-profile members, has spoken out about maintaining the distinction between streaming and theatrical releases. The date for the 93rd annual Academy Awards remains Feb. 28 of next year, although the Academy acknowledged that additional changes might be necessary, "based on national guidelines, state-mandated government orders and Academy-determined best practices."After low ratings for this year's Oscars, the board approved several additional procedural changes, among them allowing all members to vote in the international feature film category, formerly known as best foreign-language film. The Academy also announced that the current award season will be the last in which studios are allowed to distribute DVD screeners to voters. (Date: 12 March 2018) Nicolas Cage is voicing A-list comic-book icon Superman, singer/songwriter Halsey co-stars as Amazon princess Wonder Woman — who travels around in her signature invisible jet — and rapper Lil Yachty plays Green Lantern in the upcoming animated movie (in theaters July 27) that takes the young heroes of the Cartoon Network show Teen Titans GO! to the big screen. https://www.usatoday.com/story/life/movies/2018/03/12/exclusive-halsey-plays-wonder-woman-lil-yachty-green-lantern-teen-titans-go/415282002/ Ava DuVernay to Direct DC's 'New Gods' (Date: 15 March 2018) A Wrinkle in Time filmmaker Ava DuVernay will finally make her superhero debut...with an adaptation of Jack Kirby's epic The New Gods, Deadline reports. Set after Ragnarok and the birth of a new generation of gods, The New Gods was part of Jack Kirby's Fourth World cycle of storytelling, along with Mister Miracle and The Forever People. The story pits the evil gods of Apokolips, led by Darkseid, against the bright and idealistic gods of New Genesis, led by Highfather. Mister Miracle is the son of Highfather, who was raised on Apokolips as a kind of mutually-assured destruction pact with Darkseid, who sent his son Orion to be raised on New Genesis. Miracle is perhaps the most marketable of all of the New Gods characters, along with his wife, Big Barda, and Orion himself. http://comicbook.com/dc/2018/03/15/ava-duvernay-to-direct-dcs-new-gods/   NEXT EPISODE   Part 2: Promo for Next Week's Episode   Link to Promo: (Date: 31 Oct 2017) https://www.comicbookmovie.com/tv/dc/legends_of_tomorrow/legends-of-tomorrow-its-vampire-hunting-season-in-new-promo-for-season-3-episode-5-return-of-the-mack-a154935   Episode: “Return of the Mack” [Season 3 Episode 5] Air Date: Tuesday, November 7. 2017 Summary: The Legends run into Rip in 1897 London where they attempt to hunt down a time-traveling vampire.
