The B2B content meta is about to change.LinkedIn is getting its very own short-form video section. We all knew this was coming. And with a potential TikTok ban on the horizon, there's a whole new market of buyers that will now turn to LinkedIn for their scrolling needs. The time to invest in video is now.Today's guest knows what it takes to succeed in a video-first content world.Alex Minor is the owner of Eye AM Media - a video production & marketing agency for small businesses, coaches and entrepreneurs.Just like many creatives that make waves on LinkedIn - Alex quickly realized that being a full time creator is typically not financially feasible, so he started using his talent to help us corporate types generate revenue. Some say that starting a podcast in 2024 is inefficient due to an oversaturation of interview-based content. Even though 2020 had many people starting their B2B shows, the reality is most of those projects have grinded to a halt a long time ago. Most podcasts don't make it past episode 8 - and the amount of people starting podcasts has decreased dramatically, meaning many niches are still being underserved and ripe for the picking. The idea that video content will immediately generate leads can lead to bitter disappointment. Building an audience takes time, consistency and experimentation, but the good news is you'll be building your brand with every piece of content you release, and once you have an audience hooked - you're ready to start generating revenue. You don't need to buy a course in video creation to succeed. The great thing about social media is that you can look for inspiration that's publicly available and learn best practices while finding your own voice and style. When asked about companies that are creating great content, Alex mentions the work of Milanote and Descript. There's been a lot of buzz about The Great Resignation, a phrase used to describe the record breaking number of people leaving their jobs during the COVID-19 pandemic. And according to United States Department of Labor statistics, women are leading the number of resignations. This shouldn't be surprising given the disproportionate responsibilities women often carry at home and the never-ending pay gaps between men and women workers. Even before the pandemic, too many women were carrying way too much, with insufficient satisfaction, support, recognition, or compensation. Stressed, burned out, underpaid, and so over it, more women are finally stepping up to show up for themselves and make intentional career moves. For many of us, a song or even the first few notes of a tune are enough to transport us to a particular time, feeling, place, or face. During the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, virtual concerts, and online music events provided the healing and connections we needed. Now that the world is fumbling towards a new normal, everyone is trying to regroup. But even before the pandemic, certain facets of the arts community were already struggling. Orchestras and symphonies, needing to attract new devoted patrons, were falling short on appeal and relevance as a result of their lack of diversity and connection to prospective audiences. A 2016 study of the League of American Orchestras indicated that Black musicians made up less than 2% of orchestras despite being 12% of the US population. Why aren't there more Black musicians? On the new SheConfidential podcast episode, musician and CREATE (Cultural Rhythm Expressing Art to Empower) founder and president, Sana Colter describes the factors contributing to the underrepresentation of Black musicians and identifies ways this can be addressed. Having HIV is a crime in the United States. Currently, 35 states have laws that allow felony prosecution for exposure to HIV, even if the exposure doesn't result in the transmission of HIV. People of color make up 25% of the US population and over 50% of people diagnosed with HIV. This means that people of color are also the ones most impacted by laws criminalizing HIV. Unfortunately, most people know nothing about these laws. This results in confusion, increased discrimination and bias against those living with HIV. As we've often heard, knowledge is power. And today's episode is a start towards increasing awareness of this issue. This episode featuring Kim Hunt, Executive Director of the Pride Action Tank, is packed with information about the movement to decriminalize HIV and remove the stigma associated with this public health crisis. In addition, Kim Hunt explains:What it means to decriminalize laws related to HIV and AIDS. Passage of the Illinois law (House Bill 1063) decriminalizing HIV and AIDS.Ways criminalizing HIV undermines public health.Benefits of PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis). The problem with public health matters like HIV falling under the criminal law umbrella. Money drama is the last thing people should have to sort through following the death of a loved one. Unfortunately, many of us have heard the stories about families locked in conflict as they try to pool funds to pay for the funeral or memorial service or bickering over who is entitled to family heirlooms or property. Too many of us have firsthand experience with the family fallouts that unfold when a loved one dies. Estate planning can help avoid so much of this. Estate planning includes the process of documenting your wishes for how you want your assets and personal property distributed upon your death or incapacitation. During the new SheConfidential podcast episode, attorney Wayne Hood explains:Components of an estate plan including wills, trusts, power of attorney, advance directives, business succession, HIPAA authorization, and beneficiary designations. Why estate planning is something everyone should do, regardless of income level or value of assets. How estate planning can be used to protect and create generational wealth. How estate planning alleviates some of the stress associated with the loss of a loved one. Different considerations for those with children, those with family members who have special needs, and single individuals. The benefits of working with an attorney and other professionals to design an estate plan instead of using an online template. Why it's important to start estate planning sooner rather than later. Those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it. And although slavery ended over 100 years ago, the systems, beliefs, and prejudices it left behind are things we still battle today. And the impacts don't stop at politics or gaps in influence and wealth. Relationship dynamics between Black couples, families, and communities have also been burdened with intergenerational traumas stemming from slavery. If we're going to heal from the mental and emotional scars slavery left behind, we need to explore how intergenerational traumas impact Black men and women and identify ways to start healing. This is what Jared Washington, an Atlanta based Licensed Professional Counselor, discusses in today's episode.Jared has dedicated his life to empowering Black people through mental health counseling and providing education to break the mental and emotional barriers holding us back.
