Do you remember the language requirement in school? Were you excited by it, or did you dread having yet another thing to pack into your head? What language did you learn? Did you hold onto it, or were you able to just pass the course and leave it behind? I believe that language is currency. I was (and still am!) one of those people who wanted to travel and learn five languages. I wasn't able to learn them all while being a double major in English and Biology, pre-med and a French literature minor. But the desire continued to live within me. So, what I did was learn when I could as an adult. My next guest has mastered six languages-- Spanish, German, French, Russian, Italian, Hungarian, and Japanese! Gabriel Wyner was born in Los Angeles, and along his learning journey, he graduated summa cum laude in 2007 from the University of Southern California with dual degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Vocal Arts Performance. After he was awarded the Renaissance Scholar's prize for excellence in unrelated disciplines, he moved to Vienna to pursue triple Master's degrees in 2011. Searching for a way to bring the immersive language learning experience home with him, Gabe began to apply his analytical and engineering talents to developing a system that rapidly builds fluency with short, daily sessions – without the need for a tutor or immersion. In 2010, his efforts paid off. Using his custom-designed system, he reached fluency in French in 5 months, followed by Russian in 10 months. Gabe is the founder and CEO of Fluent Forever, is a best-selling author, opera singer and polyglot now based in Chicago, IL. His book, “Fluent Forever: How to Learn Any Language Fast and Never Forget It,” became a national bestseller. The Fluent Forever app is built around his method, and is currently used by tens of thousands of people each month, having reached people in over 100 countries around the world by 2021. "How to Learn Any Language Fast and Never Forget It"
У цьому філософсько-практичниому епізоді Хельґі турботливо розповідає про методи вивчення англійської мови. Чому важливо знати, навіщо вона вам? Як підібратися до перших вивчених слів? Чому додатки — не панацея? І до чого тут сон? Головне памʼятати: whatever the method, stick to the method. That's the method. Consistency is key, people.
This week's conversation is with Gabriel Wyner, a polyglot, former opera singer, bestselling author of Fluent Forever: How to Learn Any Language Fast and Never Forget It, and founder of the Fluent Forever app, the most funded app in crowdfunding history.Gabe graduated summa cum laude in 2007 from the University of Southern California with dual degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Vocal Arts Performance, and was awarded the Renaissance Scholar's prize for excellence in unrelated disciplines.Following graduation, Gabe moved to Europe to pursue triple Master's degrees in Opera, Lieder, and Voice where found himself quickly needing to learn various new languages as his studies took him from country to country. Gabe began to apply his analytical and engineering talents to developing a system that rapidly builds fluency and in 2012 published a viral article about his groundbreaking formula to fluency, which garnered a publishing offer within two hours. Now, Gabe is fluent in eight languages and teaches tens of thousands of people around the world using his unique language-learning method through The Fluent Forever App.I was curious to learn how Gabe has mastered a skill that many people find incredibly difficult, but this conversation isn't just about how to learn a new language – it's about Gabe's unique frameworks for learning, how to make memories stick, and why, in his opinion, we've been taught the wrong way. -----Please support our partners! We're able to keep growing and creating content for YOU because of their support. This week on the podcast we are joined by Gabriel Wyner. We had Gabriel on the podcast back in June 2015 and it was really fun to follow up and talk about what's changed over the last 7 years. Gabriel is the creator of the Fluent Forever app, author of a book of the same name, a life-long language learner, and polyglot. In this episode we catch up with Gabriel about what he's been up to over the last 7 years, the process of launching an app, how the Fluent Forever model can help you learn a language more effectively than a lot of other models, common mistakes people make in their language learning journeys and more! Enjoy!Enjoy!**In this episode:**- How Gabriel's business has evolved over the last seven years- Creating a language learning app that helps with memorization and fluency- The obstacles that come with running a tech business- Fluent Forever's method that takes language learners to fluent levels of speaking- Using imagery to associate new words and phrases with each other- Common errors people run into when learning a new language- The languages Gabriel has learned and why he does it personally**Guest links:**Fluent Forever: [https://fluent-forever.com/](https://fluent-forever.com/)
Why is learning vocabulary so excruciatingly difficult and time consuming? As an opera singer, Gabriel needed an efficient system to quickly learn six languages. He turned to neuroscience and found a solution that works. When I struggled to learn Hebrew vocabulary, Gabriel's system Fluent Forever really saved me and he's been my hero ever since. In this episode of Meneer Van Dale, Grabriel answers the question: Is learning languages really about memory?

KEY TAKEAWAYS Automation is a great way to free up time and get things done more efficiently. With email automation, you can have your emails delivered automatically by people who are qualified for the task at hand--whether that's sending out customer quotes or responding back as soon as possible. Software like this can help with your inboxes by making sure there's always someone ready when needed so all those important messages don't pile up too high. BEST MOMENTS “Although every industry is different, every person is different, emails are actually quite similar for most people. There are a lot of similar types of messages going in and out.” “People do not deal with their emails well enough. They outsource everything else. They hire website designer to do their website. They hire accountant to do their accounting. They hire coaches to help with other things and mentors. All kinds of team members to do things. But they always do emails themselves and it is the thing that they spend most time on.” “Business models are kinda like the step one because for you be able to automate something how that business actually works and makes money and what your role perform in it very much dictates how you can automate it.” “Most important thing if your goal is to become the owner or the investor, you're going to need to get very good at solving the people problem and the technology problems.” “If you are not familiar with the industry then those kind of terms are kinda confusing or what it is that even mean so every industry has those and they have their own sort of interclub of unique terminology that.” ABOUT THE HOST Sıla Erol started her journey at TTC wetranslate Ltd as a Project Coordinator and has been continuing as a Key Account Manager after graduating from Translation and Interpreting Department at Ege University in Izmir/Turkey. Have you ever seen pictures of entrepreneurs with their laptop while on the glistening and enticing shores with hues of blues and turquoise with the caption, “living my best life now” and wondered how you too can do that? This episode reveals someone who is successfully doing that and provides hacks for you to do it too. Here are three reasons why you should listen to the full episode: Learn how a tech startup founder runs a successful business while travelling the world, living in dozens of cities. Discover how to merge business and travel to have the life you want Identify some travel hacks to do so on a budget. Episode Highlights Yaro's early days get in Tech From 16 to about 25 years old, Yaro's goal was focused on making enough money to survive with his own source of income, not someone else's. He was seen as a misfit. Everyone had a job or was starting university. Brisban wasn't a hotbed for entrepreneurship.. How was Yaro able to travel the world and do business? He built a business that was very leveraged, was systematized and with help from Assistants, etc.. A blog and Newsletter allowed him to create content for just 2 hours a day and that was a good day. He had an established audience. He automated much of his process. It took him 10 years to get to that digital-nomad lifestyle. What inspired Yaro to travel the world and do business at the same time? The initial inspiration came from learning about entrepreneurship in general. The Book, e-Myth by Michael Gerber played a huge role. It was instrumental to validate the idea that you could build a business that you are not the main operator. It was about wanting to build a machine that could generate passive income. 3 Powerful Quotes from This Episode “Throughout that entire time I was sitting in Cafes with my laptop and I would coordinate either a launch campaign, write a blog post or a Newsletter and the business would run behind me.” “I made a deliberate choice to build that type of business, to go after that business model. It took me 10 years.” “My goal was simply not get a job, not have a boss, not have an alarm clock, that was the worst, not have a cap on my potentia to make money, like all entrepreneurs, that one was to make a lot of money that I could actually survive. That's what my brain was focused on.” About Yaro Starak Yaro Starak. Most passionate about I'm passionate about my own company right now, InboxDone. I'm also passionate about angel investing, which is something I've done more of recently. It's exposure to great ideas and great people. I have a podcast as well. I love doing podcast interviews with exciting and interesting people. Yaro's career and story When I was 18 years old, I entered university. It was the dot-com boom. I already knew I don't want to have a job, a boss, an alarm clock that would force me to wake up at a certain time, a cap on my income potential. I just wasn't sure how to make enough money to survive given that I didn't want those things. So, I knew that entrepreneurship was the likely path. With the dot-com boom happening and me entering university, I was given access to the internet. I was constantly exposed to ideas on digital space. So, I started a website. It was more of a hobby about a card game I played called Magic: The Gathering. I made some money from advertising. Eventually, I had a little e-commerce store selling the cards and learned a lot. After graduation, I started what I call my first real business. It was called Better Edit and it was an academic editing service that grew into a full-time income for me. Most importantly, it was a digital business that I could travel with. Basically, I could do what I had always dreamed about—not have a boss, live where I wanted, and be independent. Best advice for entrepreneurs Even today, with our current business, it's about the customer and figuring out not just what they want, but the psychology behind how they're dealing with that problem. You have to actually meet your customers where they are, then present information that gets their attention. Secondarily, you have to present an alternative pattern or way of doing something to solve their problems. The biggest, most critical failure with customers I had a company that I didn't mention in the story because it was a failure. It was an advertising management company that I started as a proper startup. I got two co-founders and we were attempting to essentially build a platform that would help us. We started building a software platform but I didn't really realize and understand what the customer base needed. They were just so far away from being capable of doing that. Ultimately, we couldn't help them solve the problems and we didn't have a workable business. Biggest success with customers To me, meeting the need of helping the customer break free and delegating is the biggest customer success. Talking about the business too. It's not always the nuts and bolts. It's the idea that, by delegating, you get to focus on your creative genius or your family, or you get to focus on exercise and health where these things may have been neglected because you were too busy doing all the everyday routine tasks, including email and your calendar. Yaro's recommendation of a tool It's more about my team managing our customers than me because I'm on the marketing side and my team...
Gabriel Wyner is an American polyglot, book author, and founder of Fluent Forever. He fell in love with language learning while training to be an opera singer at school. After feeling pressured by a deadline to achieve proficiency in French, he worked his way to fluency studying on his own. Noticing that there was valuable advice online that was not put together, Gabe decided to share his journey in the book Fluent Forever: How to Learn Any Language Fast and Never Forget It, which since has become a best-seller. Since 2019, he and his team have been helping thousands of people with their language learning through their Fluent Forever app. Their mission is to enable a million people to have comfortable conversations in a foreign language by 2030. This interview with Gabe was absolutely fascinating. It left me with so many questions, I only wish we could have talked longer. The interview starts a little bit slow, but trust me, stick in there through the whole interview for a goldmine of life-changing language learning advice. Gabe shares with me about his childhood and how his parents instilled a growth mindset in him from an early age. How a coming of age ceremony led him to become an opera singer and study vocal arts. Why goals are a crucial part of his language learning and how he sets effective objectives. How learning another foreign language might help you better learn English. The brain science that goes into making the fluent forever method effective, and how you can learn pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar in an efficient and natural way. You are really in for a treat with this one—it could change the way you think about language learning. I'm so excited to share this interview with you, so let's get into episode 19 of Beyond Borders!

In this episode, Hall welcomes Gabriel Wyner of Fluent-Forever, an exciting new language learning app. Gabriel talks about his background as an opera singer and mechanical engineer, and his passion for language. He also discusses the language education space and where it is evolving, particularly for online tools and mobile users. Gabriel talks about what is driving growth in the space, and some of the challenges in a crowded market. He gives his advice to investors, and the need to focus on companies and products that will be able to retain customers, not just acquire them short-term. Finally, Gabriel highlights some of the things that make Fluent-Forever stand out from the competition.
Gabriel Wyner is a polyglot, former opera singer, the author of the book Fluent Forever: How to Learn Any Language Fast and Never Forget It, and the creator of the Fluent Forever app, the most funded app in crowdfunding history. I highly recommend his book and app, especially to anyone who struggles with foreign language pronunciation or making new words stick.

The month after his record breaking 2017 Kickstarter ended, he suddenly realized how far out of my depth he had landed. One minute he was an Opera Singer the next a CEO. He rapidly went from despair, to doing what real leaders do: Sending out calls for help and advisors. There he realized that running a business was a matter of seeking the advice of others (who knew what he did not) and integrating it into an ongoing plan.On this show we talk about learning languages and the myths we have about it, and how busting those myths will transform your leadership. Our guest on this episode is Gabriel Wyner. He is the author of Fluent Forever: How to learn any language fast and never forget it.At the end of last year, he ran the most successful crowdfunding campaign for any app in history, doubling the previous record. He's now found himself running a software company that's creating the next generation of language learning products. But Gabriel's path into this role was anything but direct. 6 years ago, he was an opera singer, struggling to 'make it' in the music business in Vienna, Austria. His path from struggling musician to CEO of a successful software company makes him an 'accidental leader' - someone who doesn't set out to become a leader, and yet finds himself in that role regardless.More about Gabriel Wyner: www.Fluent-Forever.comTo find out more about hiring the host Dov Baron as a speaker or strategist: http://fullmontyleadership.com/consulting or http://fullmontyleadership.com/speakingRemember you can now also find us on iTunes, Spotify, iHeart Radio, or wherever you tune into podcastsAnd on traditional radio stations across the US every Monday and Thursday on: 99.5 FM & 1520 AM Las Vegas102.1 FM & 1640 AM Lancaster, Philadelphia87.9 FM & 810 AM Macon, Gorgia 92.1 FM & 1630 AM Tampa, Florida97.7 The Villages, Florida96.3 FM Boulder ,Colorado90.3 FM Milwaukee, Wisconsin 94.7 FM Pittsburg, Philadelphia87.9 FM Colorado Springs, ColoradoAlso look for us on ROKU TV where there’s 100K subscribers. Get the transcript at www.feelgoodenglish.com If you are listening to this, it’s very likely you have learned a foreign language which is English; good for you, great job by the way. And maybe you have tried or you are considering learning another foreign language. This book has some very valuable advice and strategies on how to do that. And don't forget, and I talk about this a lot, I believe everyone learns a foreign language differently and at least they have their own preference on how to learn, you have to make the process fun and interesting. So even though this book has great tips, it’s not like it has the answer for everybody. We have to experiment, try out different things, see what works for us, see what we enjoy doing and keep applying those methods. However, there are universal methods of learning a foreign language, methods that I believe most people can benefit from. And through research and experimentation, we can learn these methods and apply them and see quicker results in our language learning journey, our language learning process. And the book "Fluent Forever" has great tips.

Today, we have a special treat for you, especially if you enjoyed our episode with language learning expert Benny Lewis. Today's guest is Gabriel Wyner, the guru I turn to when I have difficult language learning questions. His book, Fluent Forever, completely changed the way I approach learning a language, and his extremely detailed, in-depth blog on the subject was an invaluable resource to me when I was learning to use some of the tools that have become so central in my learning toolkit. He also has tons of incredible products, from pronunciation guides, to comprehensive word lists ranked in order of importance, and much, much more. Hack Language Learning. "You get to meet different parts of yourself by going through the process of learning other languages." - Gabriel Wyner The Cheat Sheet: What is the European scale of fluency? There is such thing as the language gene: true or false? A simple language hack you can do at home watching TV. How to boost your retention by 40% and 50%. The first way to start learning a language: it's NOT the way we're taught in school. Why you don't need grammar drills. And so much more... There are people who are fluent in multiple languages: are they freaks of nature or do they have the "language gene"? Or are there tricks, tools and life hacks the rest of us can use to learn and remember foreign languages? Our guest today is Gabriel Wyner is the author of Fluent Forever, a book about how to learn languages quickly and how to retain them forever. Join us as we talk about his techniques for learning a language quickly and retaining it, what the tremendous benefits are to fluency, the obvious and not-so-obvious ones, and where to get started when you decide to learn a foreign language...and loads more! More About This Show: Even though Gabriel Wyner has authored Fluent Forever, a book on language learning, he wasn't always a language aficionado. He was a good language student in middle school and high school, but only in the respect that he tested well. He couldn't speak any language he learned outside of the classroom and after awhile, he had forgotten much of the vocabulary he had learned. In college, he double majored in Mechanical Engineering and Voice. He always wanted to be an engineer so he opted to go that route, but he also loved singing so he wanted to make that more than just a hobby. As a voice major, he had to learn to sing in Italian, Spanish and German. Not knowing a lick of German, his friend suggested he go to a school in Vermont called Middlebury and take a summer program. If Gabriel opted into one of their programs, it meant he had to speak the foreign language of his program for the entire time he was there. If he slipped up, he would be kicked out and would lose all of the money he had paid to be there. It sounded crazy enough to work, so he signed up and spent the next 7 weeks immersed in German. At the end of those 7 weeks, he was a B1 or a B2 on the European fluency scale, meaning he could order in a restaurant and carry on an in-depth conversation with ease. But that wasn't enough for him, he returned the following summer and earned a C1 certification in German. That certification meant he was fluent on the European scale; in Europe, if he had wanted to, he could teach in their school system and he could write an academic paper with ease. Even though immersion works, Gabriel realizes not everyone has time for that. Most of us can't take 7 weeks off and run to Vermont to learn another language! If you're like most people and need to learn a language within the confines of a typical life, he has plenty of suggestions for you in this episode. His first suggestion when getting started is to learn the pronunciation of a language. Train your ear to hear the words in that language, before you do anything else like learning the alphabet or colors or numbers. After you've trained your brain on how to hear the language, which will take about 2-3 weeks, then learn basic words. But here's a critical life hack to doing so: use images. And not just any images, use the Google search tool in your target language to learn the images associated with words. Often simple words mean something else to their native speakers. Once you've moved through those stages, then go on to learn the grammar. But all you need is your grammar guide, you won't need grammatical drills...Gabriel tells us why. One last tip he leaves us with is a way to expand our vocabulary and become fluent faster after we're speaking a new language. When you find you don't know a word, you can either revert back to English or you can use the other words you do know in the new language and get other people to help you fill in the blank. You'll have the added benefit of having learned something new from someone (and perhaps giving them a laugh in the process), and having learned while under a bit of stress which makes your brain retain it better. Please join me in thanking Gabriel for being on the show. He was a fun guest to have on. I loved that we debunked some language myths, gave you some life hack language-learning tools and generally set the foundation for the fast, easier way to learn and retain a language. Thanks for being here and we'll see you next time. THANKS GABRIEL!
