When you look back on your life, make sure you can say that you were there for it. You were present. You didn't just move through the motions of life, doing what you were told and checking out when things got hard or boring. You felt it all. You experienced it all, from the mundane to the breathtaking.  This podcast episode begins with a short exercise to support the feelings in your heart right now, then Rachel dives into today's topic - our presence. Over the course of our lives, our presence is shaped by so many things. Being told we are ‘bad' as children and internalizing those emotions. Checking out as we complete our normal mundane tasks for the day. Or, finding ourselves overwhelmed by trying to keep it all together. For Rachel, this came to a cumulation this week after she checked out and was only brought back to earth by a crippling panic attack. The solution? Embrace your humanity! Love yourself - and that begins with understanding yourself. Learn the intricacies of your emotions, what triggers you, and when you check out so you can catch it before you're too far gone. Today's episode will give you new tools to manage anxiety and help you get to know yourself a little better. Tune in to get started. Learn more about your ad choices. Rachel explains how losing her mother at an early age and feeling her presence around her afterwards supported her to open up to the divine and how a relationship with a colleague who was cheating on her in her late 20's started to consolidate a deeper trust in her intuition. She also talks about working with Divine Feminine energy through various Goddesses and opens up about her 16-year journey with Ascended Master Sarah, daughter of Mary Magdalene and Yeshua. Sarah is here to help humanity take our next step in terms of planetary evolution and consciousness, and Rachel treats us to a channelled message from this powerful Master, the core essence of which is that we are all truly co-creating the New Earth with the Divine, and all the distress and darkness that surrounds us is balanced by equal amounts of light. Over the next seven days, I'm hosting six conversations as part of a special week of content on motherhood here on Hurdle. Although I'm not a mom just yet, my talks with Hurdlers over the years have taught me so much about this life chapter. I've learned that motherhood itself is both beautiful and challenging, exhausting and rewarding. Whether or not children are in the cards for you, it's safe to say that we've all been dramatically impacted by a mother — whether it be our own or another — in our lives. So, leading up to Mother's Day, I'm chatting with six extraordinary women. Some moms. Some not. But, each has a story to tell, forever shaped by the women that came before them. Today I'm chatting with Rachel Nicks, Founder of Birth Queen, Lululemon ambassador, founding MIRROR trainer, actress, doula, and lactation consultant (plus, mother of two!). A lot of takeaways with Rachel, my biggest are that joy is so so important, and we have the conscious choice to choose it each and every day. For Rachel, choosing joy empowers her to be a better mother and be more present with her boys. It also empowers her to show up at home and at work. Rachel also discusses the struggles that she faces as a Black mother, sharing some alarming statistics that encouraged her to become a doula and lactation consultant as well as found Birth Queen, which aims to educates, supports, and empowers Black women and parents, enriching the Black birth experience and saving lives. The environment we live in, the water we drink, the food we eat and the air we breathe play a massive role in our overall health and wellbeing. The good news? While this may seem overwhelming, a lot of it is within our control. On this week’s episode, Rachel opens up about her family’s environmental toxicology test results. While they were in for some shocking insights, now they have the answers they need to move forward. The truth is, we are all exposed to toxins on a day-to-day basis, but there are changes we can make to minimize both our exposure to them, and their impact on our bodies. For Rachel and her family to move forward, it requires a huge lifestyle shift. Rachel shares the changes she is making in her life and what you can do in yours as well. This episode will remind you to pay attention to the environment you are living in - and listen to your body when it speaks to you. The body has a deep inner knowing and if you listen to it, it could just save your life. After listening comes knowledge, and from there, we can make the decisions we need to change the course of our health for all days to come. Learn more about your ad choices. Join the Reynolds family to see how they finished the Take Charge 10 challenge, how they feel about it, and what changes they plan to keep. Day 8 you don't drink caffeine 6 hours before bed. This, again, helps reduce caloric beverages in the afternoon & dinner, but it also helps improve your sleep. Good sleep helps bolster healthy living.  One way the Reynolds family was able to prepare for a gathering that normally might involve alcohol & food was they prepared the food and ensured it was healthy--but still tasty. They simply didn't drink alcohol for the gathering, and though it would have been nice they continued to feel good and it wasn't as big of a deal as they had expected.    One thing Matt identified was that gamifying things--working to achieve macros & calories & sticking with goals using MyFitnessPal--really helped motivate him to stay on track.  On day 9, you heed to balance your meals, so no all carbohydrate meals especially. For many, an all carbohydrate meal will lead to a big spike in insulin and they'll ultimately feel hangry soon thereafter and look for more food. Trying get a little bit of everything--fruit & nuts or cheese, for example--really helps.  For the Reynolds, this wasn't a hard day but a day to really solidify those habits they had already developed. For the final day, you have to know everything you're eating and not eat outside the home. The Reynolds family partook in some Cox wings & BBQ sauce--Cox Sauce, get you some--and really enjoyed it. Overall, everyone was feeling better and though there were certain things they looked forward to, they largely wanted to continue the habits and success they created with the challenge. They also didn't feel deprived, so they didn't go and have a 3000 calorie meal, like they might have after a typical "diet" in the past, but rather went out to a diner and eat reasonably but some foods that they hadn't had over the past 10 days.  Ultimately, this is about sustainable nutrition habits to achieve your health goals. If you follow a diet that you couldn't keep up with long-term, you need to think about why you're following that diet. While there are certain circumstances where this may make sense, most people can just follow the basics of nutrition, not feel so deprived, and reach their goals. For Rachel and their daughters, they mostly missed sugar. For Matt, he craved a bit more fat.  They're glad they did it, and glad they did it together. They felt more conscious, more intentional about food, but without neuroticism or morality.  Join us for the Take Charge 10 nutrition challenge. How she has done it is remarkable and truly inspiring. She was laughed at when asked why there were no women filling strength and conditioning roles in Major League Baseball. She was told that despite having an impeccable CV, she wouldn’t get a job in the game. Why? Because she was a woman.Unfortunately for others who have faced the same challenges and adversity, it’s where their story ends. For Rachel, that where her story starts. Sydney Blue Sox Hitting Coach, Rachel Balkovec, has achieved more in her 33 years than many could even dream of in a lifetime. She’s been a Division 1 NCAA college softballer, strength and conditioning coordinator for the St Louis Cardinals minor league organisation, worked for the Houston Astros, gave up her dream job to study in Europe and became the first woman to be appointed hitting coach for a big league ball club; the New York Yankees no less. But it’s not just what she has achieved that is impressive. It’s a story of unwavering dedication, unshakable self-belief and incredible resilience. In this special two-part episode, Rachel sits down with host, Glen Hawke, to talk about the challenges, setbacks and achievements, what drives and motivates her and the history-making moments that changed her life, and potentially the lives of many women who hope to follow her path.RACHEL BALKOVEC – I’m not done yet!Follow Rachel on Twitter and InstagramFollow the Sydney Blue Sox on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.Website: sydneybluesox.com.auFollow Glen Hawke on Instagram and LinkedInThanks for listening.

You can find show notes to this episode at https://transformingmission.org/podcast Are you naturally competitive or collaborative? Often, that's the dichotomy presented - especially in the church. But what if there is a third way? What if you compete so that everyone wins? Doing so necessitates collaboration. Today, Tim and Sara have a conversation with Rachel Billups, Senior Pastor of Ginghamsburg Church in Tipp City, Ohio. Rachel leads with the following top five CliftonStrengths: Achiever Competition Futuristic Command, and Focus. Our conversation centers around how her Competition talent theme is fueling partnerships. Before you say, wait, it's that talent theme all about winning first place? Yes, here's how Gallup defines the Competition talent theme: People exceptionally talented in the Competition theme measure their progress against the performance of others. They strive to win first place and revel in contests. Rachel turns this talent theme inside out, inviting people into partnerships so that the team wins, the ministry wins, and most of all the kingdom of God is more of a reality. For Rachel, winning by herself isn't fun. It's when the team wins, that there is a victory in the kingdom of God. Join us as we explore how Christian leaders can set the pace for the team so that everyone wins. You'll hear examples of how she's building relationships with other pastors throughout the Miami Valley. Then, explore how building relationships is building bridges across the racial divide of Sunday morning.  She'll share how Ginghamsburg Church is inviting everyone to focus on the children within 20 minutes of the church. Specifically, ensuring that every child goes to bed at night with faith, family, and food. Be prepared for a fast-paced, fun-filled conversation with Rachel Billups as she invites us to focus on reframing competition by building kingdom partnerships. Building a B2B Podcast and Making it Work

Podcasts are becoming more popular each day (there are more than a million podcasts and more than 30 million episodes available). So it’s not surprising that marketers are deciding to create a B2B podcast as a strategy to reach their buyers. But how do you start a B2B podcast and how do you make it work? That is the topic on this episode of the Modern Marketing Engine podcast with my guest Rachel Clapp Miller, Vice President of Marketing and Digital Engagement at Force Management.  Force Management is a B2B sales effectiveness consulting firm that helps its clients define sales solutions and create management tools that produce measurable results. In her role, Rachel manages communication and content generation that drive leads and client engagement.  She is also the host of The Audible Ready Podcast, a weekly show featuring B2B sales leaders and revenue-driving executives, who share their best insights on how a focus on sales effectiveness can help companies increase revenue, improve sales margins and gain market share.   Listen to this episode as Rachel tells us how she started the podcast and those factors that have made it successful. The Evolution of a B2B Podcast The Audible Ready Podcast was born organically, almost by accident.  Rachel was in charge of content marketing, blogging regularly, posting on social media and running demand generation activities. “I needed to get into the heads of the subject matter experts,” Rachel says. “So I started scheduling regular content chats with co-founder John Kaplan. We had conversations every other week about sales planning, pipeline, whatever it was we were producing content on.”  Rachel decided to record these conversations so she could listen to them later, but soon realized that she had a B2B podcast on her hands. So she kept recording the interviews as a podcast without telling John that she planned to publish them… A risk that paid off! After producing and editing some of the interviews, however, Rachel asked for the official green light to make the interviews an actual podcast. Fortunately, she got the approval and the podcast launched in 2015 as The Force Management Podcast.  Although people liked it, originally it was just a hobby and not a regular production of content.  However, as the company was growing, the podcast evolved. Rachel evaluated the marketing tactics and realized the podcast was a low hanging fruit, an effective B2B marketing tool they could leverage. So she hired a writer for the marketing team to maximize resources and also contracted an outside company to edit and publish the podcast. Rachel realized that since 2015, B2B podcasts had grown exponentially and to compete, Force Management had to take their podcast to the next level. That’s why in 2020 they did a complete rebranding, changing the name to The Audible Ready Podcast. The Goals of a B2B Podcast As a B2B marketer, how do you measure the impact your podcast has on your business?  The first thing is to set some goals, whether it is lead generation, sales enablement or branding. For Rachel and her team, the goal is to increase visibility and brand awareness. “There are many sales consulting firms, so we need to differentiate ourselves, and the podcast helps us do that,” Rachel says. “We sell to the C-suite and high-level sales leaders on the go. We want to give them different avenues to find us, other than the newsletter.”  The podcast also serves to remain top of mind with their target audience, in this case, sales reps, who are the users of their training programs. Furthermore, they have integrated the podcasts as added content to their training program, which not only increases the audience but serves as a tool to reinforce learning. We do the same with the Modern Marketing Engine podcast and our Modern Selling podcast, integrated into our Vengreso On Demand training portal.  Where to Find Content for a B2B Podcast So far, Rachel’s guests have been Force Management executives with stellar sales backgrounds.  “They are working with fast growing tech companies, so they have a boots-on-the-ground perspective,” Rachel says. However, she is planning to interview outside guests in the future. One thing that I loved about our conversation is that Rachel mentioned that the Force Management salespeople use the podcast to provide valuable information to their clients and even sometimes send her ideas for new episodes. In fact, she has on occasion bumped episodes to incorporate ideas from the sales team. That’s what I call real marketing and sales alignment! Measuring the Results of the Podcast  In business and in marketing we are always measuring the results of our activities to know if it is worthwhile to continue with that activity. A podcast is no exception. Rachel says her primary metric for her podcast is the number of unique downloads. This metric has been increasing over time. “The longer the podcast is out, the more downloads it gets. The podcast is building positive brand awareness, and that is valuable.” Another way Rachel’s team measures the success of the podcast is by the feedback and engagement on LinkedIn. For instance, John Kaplan regularly gets comments on his LinkedIn posts from people who heard him on the podcast. Don’t miss this episode to learn more about how a B2B podcast can help you build brand awareness and stay top of mind with your customers. There are a lot of podcast education courses out there. Heck, we even have one. Most promise actionable steps to take an idea and transform it into a successful podcast, providing guidance and tutorials to get you there. But when you want to learn the best tips and tricks, you have to go to the best. So that’s why we set out to talk to Rachel Corbett. Rachel got involved with podcasting 20 years ago, right at the beginning of industry’s infancy. She was the Head of Podcasts at the Mamamia network and helped grow some of their flagship shows to over 1 million unique listeners per month and 90 million downloads! Many podcast awards laters, she how is the host and owner of Podschool. On this week’s episode, Craig and Rachel talk more about her expertise and how she uses her audio background to teach aspiring podcasters how to get started. We jump into the common misconceptions and errors new podcasters make then how you can avoid them. And how to use traditional radio and media strategies to create a more polished podcast and find success. Listen to the full episode now to hear more from Rachel and read her best takeaways below! How Can People Get Over Imposter Syndrome? “I don’t know if I’m qualified to do this.” You’ve heard this sentence before, perhaps inside your own head. Imposter Syndrome is the phenomenon of successful people attributing their accomplishments to luck rather than ability and fear others will unmask them as a fraud. Lots of podcasters, teachers, CEOs, mothers, just about everyone, have likely felt the nervousness of Imposter Syndrome when setting out on a new project. So how can you silence the voice inside your head? With media content, lots of creators are thrown into the deep end. Learning by doing, testing, and succeeding, and failing are how the best podcast hosts have found their way. For Rachel, her Imposter Syndrome popped up when she transitioned into teaching her Podschool course. She knew how to sit behind a microphone and record a great show, but she still felt like she didn’t know enough to teach someone else how to do it. The game changer was seeing her students succeed as a result of her advice in real time. Suddenly it was clear that Rachel wasn’t an imposter, her background in radio and media gave her the unique ability to teach others how to create great content. This feedback loop, creating something, making changes, and seeing results improve, is the best antidote to curbing any feelings of Imposter Syndrome. What can podcasters learn from radio hosts? The smallest thing you can change that has the biggest impact is how a podcaster thi

We learn about her real estate journey so far, the metrics she focuses on, and how she ensures that a property will cash flow to ultimately be a worthwhile investment. Although the rental income she makes from properties is now passive, Rachel does not sugar coat the effort it took to get her into this position.

What is your relationship with failure? How can we use our failures as spiritual lessons? And what are the limiting beliefs you live by that are actually holding you back?  Throughout her life Rachel has believed that she has to succeed at everything she does - even to the point of exhaustion. In this episode she reflects on the concepts of failure, limiting beliefs, and how to let go of control. Doing the inner work around our relationship with failure and shame can help us become aware of the patters in our life that are holding us back, and with that awareness, we can change. For Rachel, this means reflecting on what it feels like to loosen her grip of being in control and what a relief it is! The mind can relax and life can be a little messy. We are all humans with successes, failures, struggles, losses and gains. What matters the most isn’t what you do or what you accomplish but who you are. You don’t need to do anything to be worthy of love! This episode will remind you to release limiting beliefs and settle into the knowing that it’s ok to be human. You don’t have to prove your worth. You are already enough.

We're not trying to tantalize you with our headline or to shock you with a provocative thought. We're merely stating a fact. A fact with which you can't disagree.   When you think about it, sex is what's selling menu items at restaurants across America since 70% of servers in the US are women and the lion's share of those buying meals and tipping are men. And many a woman server knows what sells and uses her charms to her advantage.   So who is responsible for this episode's headline (and truism)? None other than Rachel Siggers, a young woman who started her restaurant career at age 17, who has seen the seedy side of the industry, and spills the beans on what happens between server and customer on this latest edition of Tip Not Included with Host, Eric Levine.   It was the over sexualized environment of the restaurant industry, in fact, that lead Rachel to leave it. While she wore a mask when she waited tables and saw the money flow in, she eventually recognized that the biz didn't energetically jive with other elements in her life. For Rachel, the restaurant world was a step, something you do in the meantime, or as she says "the in between time" to get to where you need to be.   While Rachel got out, many women who stay are victims of sexual harassment from their co-workers or management, with the staggering statistic of 1/3 of restaurant workers saying they don't report such harassment  out of fear of losing an income-making shift or of retaliation. Eric shares some heartbreaking letters from those who have suffered in silence.   The take away: If you see something, experience something...Say something! Long-term goals can become one of the most stressful parts of young adult life. People want to know about your plans for university or work, if you want to get married, whether you want to travel or settle down, and if a family and kids are in the cards. And these questions can be pretty intense without the added layer of figuring out your future with a chronic illness/disability. Health issues can make planning for the future a bit challenging, because it’s unknown what the next month will look like, let alone the next ten years. So how do those of us with health struggles plan our future? That’s what our guest, Rachel Mayo, helps us with on Episode 23. As a Type One Diabetic since her diagnosis at 18, Rachel has spent almost 15 years growing up and creating a life for herself with chronic illness. She has developed a positivity activism style all her own through blogging, public speaking, being a guest writer on numerous articles for nonprofits like Beyond Type One, Nick Jonas’ young adult diabetes activism nonprofit and podcasts, and fundraising for charities like the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. For Rachel, she wanted to advocate with humor and kindness on what has been her life journey of growing up while balancing T1D, and the role her chronic and invisible illness has played in her decisions. Rachel has documented her career from being a leadership and conference consultant with Paradigm Shift to currently working for JDRF as a volunteer engagement and outreach manager with Middle and East Tennessee, to her IVF and fertility and pregnancy journey through her hyper-active social media platform. It is her transparency on career-building, fertility struggles, pregnancy and first-time momma life with her son Noah, that makes Rachel the perfect guest on the show. In this episode, Rachel and Dominique examine the big topics older youth with chronic illness/disability should ask about their futures NOW, discover Rachel’s ideal celebrity mom playdates for her and Noah, give the best answers on how to handle those ‘adulting’ topics when you need to plan ahead (like fertility, having children, or traveling for work), lay out the best tips for how to bring these talks and questions to your doctors/support network—with the realization that asking questions is not only okay, but encouraged, motivate us to discover that being assertive for yourself can be in both verbal and written formats (hello email/texting services with doctors!), laugh lots when it’s discovered that Rachel and Dominique both have an Elmo-related nickname (and it’s DEFINITELY a couple stories you need to hear), create the life playlist for all your future adulating needs like the best sleep tools, scheduler apps, medication reminder apps, diet/snack tricks to be on-the-go, must-have parenting tools (like Rachel’s key baby apps for all first-time moms that work the best for spoonie moms), and Rachel’s key tips for hashtags that divide her posts between being a T1D/invisible illness mom AND a T1D activist, get super heartfelt as Rachel talks about her fertility journey, pregnancy and post-baby Noah life that had to blend with her T1D life she was accustomed to and all Rachel’s advice for fellow women with chronic illnesses/disabilities that want to have children as part of their future plans, and advise a seriously dynamic toolkit for handling any negative comments in the social media world about your life choices (from career, travel, or future family plans) that coexist with your chronic illness/disability. It’s so true that planning a future—whether that be jobs, marriage, children, or travel—can be quite multifaceted when you also have a chronic illness/disability, but Rachel’s epic special guest appearance shines a bright light into how full adulthood with health struggles can be pretty damn sweet! Rachel Wright is a marriage counselor and licensed psychotherapist. She is recognized as one of the freshest voices on modern and millennial relationships. Referred to as “bridging the gap between a self-help book and a therapist’s couch, she is one half of Wright Wellness Center, where together with her husband Kyle, they are helping people have better sex, relationships, and mental health.  They’ve created a healthy, communicative, and passionate relationship by using the very same techniques they teach — Everything we have developed is research-based. She has been featured widely in the media including Cosmopolitan, Women’s Health, PsychologyToday, and dozens of other outlets. How did you and Kyle meet? They were both working in restaurants. Rachel had just completed her master's degree and needed a part-time job. She started working at a brand new restaurant as a server and Kyle was part of the training team. Immediately they hated each other. They would frequently argue and she thought he was an arsehole. After the training Ryan would stay in touch by contacting her on Jewish holidays. A year later Rachel joined Kyle and the training team to open the companies 4th restaurant. And they could now stop talking. They connected deeply and realized they had both found their person. Can you give me a little snapshot of the timeline? Met and hated each other. A year later reconnected and kissed. 3 weeks later Ryan told her that he loved her. 6 months later they moved in with each other. They were engaged after 2 years and married after 16 months. They have now been married for 2.5 years. How’s it going? Phenomenally. People think just have a great relationship that they don’t work on. But after both of them saw their parent’s go for divorce they knew they had to put in the work if they wanted a relationship to last a long time I had love at first sight with my husband. What was that like? We were on a blind date set up by one of his friends. We met at a wine bar and when he walked in there was an energy about him. He was so sweet and I just got that immediately. I hadn’t felt like that before, it was so easy. For me, I felt like I could really be with this person. I kinda just knew. I know that sounds weird but that was my experience. We all have these judgments around things in our lives, especially when our friends experience things very differently. It strikes us as weird. And it’s natural to have some uncertainty, right? A lot of times the uncertainty is about us more so than the other person. For Rachel, she had a lot of uncertainty when she first met Ryan. But what she didn’t consider was the ability for people to change. When she saw him a year later he was not the same person. So how did you go from training in a restaurant together to having your own relationship company together? After she completed her Masters, she continued her psychotherapy training by getting her 3000 hours for her license and started her own practice. She had been working towards this for so long and it was amazing. For about 3 months. Her focus was on couples and sex therapy. People would come in with the same issues. Body image, anxiety, their upbringing around sex and communication issues. Couples would come in calling each other names and were not able to decide what they wanted for dinner without arguing. Kyle was still working in restaurants and had worked his way up to a fancy restaurant in San Fransico as the Head Bartender. Rachel found she wasn’t actually doing any therapy and healing people. She was teaching them how to communicate with each other. Although she enjoyed doing that work, it wasn’t what she went to school for. Kyle thought she should create an informational package about how to talk to your partner. As she worked on it Rachel realized that Kyle had an ability to take her technical knowledge and put it into layman's terms. She sent the packet out to prospective clients and then realized that her clients stopped coming in. They no longer needed to come in for therapy. The law in California was so strict that she wasn’t able to sell the packet. They decided to create something online to provide this information to people. They realized there is nothing between self-help books and going to therapy. Rachel knew that Ryan was an important part of this idea because he could take the complicated things Rachel explained in a way people understood. Rachel wanted to go into business with Ryan but he was reluctant because he had these narratives about how he was in restaurants and hadn’t been good at school. In 2015, they started their business. They weren’t even married yet. I love how organic it was. They had the business idea long before they thought about starting a business. Rachel didn’t even see her private practice as a business. When did you shift into that business mentality? I know that can be difficult for some service practitioners. She will approach things as a clinician and not as an entrepreneur. She will look at the decision from the point of view as both a clinician and as a business person. She thinks there should be more business training in therapist training. Does Kyle have a degree or certification? Rachel jokes that he has an honorary degree because he now has enough knowledge to pass the licensing exam. Fiends and family wonder what Kyle does in the business because he doesn’t have that piece of paper. We all learn differently and it’s important to respect that. When Kyle is passionate about something he learns it quickly. But at school, he didn’t want to study things that didn’t mean anything to him. When they started the business, Kyle definitely felt some imposter syndrome.   When did you start therapy? What was the reason? Rachel started therapy when she was 14 after her mum read her diary. She thought Rachel was hiding things and after reading the diary discovered that Rachel had smoke marijuana and slept with her boyfriend. Rachel was sent to therapy. She was pissed. However, after her first session in therapy, she knew she wanted to be a therapist. What about it had you feeling that way? She had never felt more seen, heard and understood. Her therapist matched her cursing and agreed that the way she ended up at therapy was not right. She helped Rachel understand her parent’s motivation and that they cared. So what happened? She left and told her parents that she had done nothing wrong but would keep going because she really liked it. She saw her therapist throughout high school and on and off during college. And now they are colleagues. How long were you in therapy for? Weekly, for about 3 years. What was the biggest thing you got out of that experience? She learned that she was a people pleaser and that if she ever wanted to have a healthy relationship with both herself and a partner, she was going to have to navigate anger and conflict. It such a big part of the human experience. We’re going to experience conflict if we’re going to express ourselves. How to manage that skilfully is so important and we are often not taught how to do that. We reap so many rewards when we work through conflict. One of the biggest misconceptions around conflict is that it’s bad. In relationships, whether it’s friends family or lovers, conflict is what helps us grow and get closer. If we don’t have conflict, that means that we don’t care because we’re not speaking our truth. We don’t get taught how to communicate and handle conflict but we also don’t get taught how to identify our feelings. How would you recommend someone who is experiencing conflict, in any relationship, be it intimate, at work, with family members, navigate the situation? Conflict is often due to different beliefs, values, opinions, and priorities. We need to listen to understand instead of listening to respond. In our culture, we are trained to listen to respond because if we don’t respond immediately we can be mocked for it. We’re not taught how to listen. Listening is half of communication. Relationship researchers John and Julie Gottman have this term ‘share meaning’. Which means do you share the meaning your partner assigns to things. Do you share the same meaning about what a home means, what money means, what communication means? We have to get on the same page about what things mean in our lives. I heard John Walker speak at his Launch Con, a few years ago. And he said - “All problems boil down to a problem in communication.” What do you think? She agrees that most problems come down to communication and that we’re all afraid to ask for what we need. When Rachel was a teenager, her people-pleasing came from a fear of asking for what she needed because she didn’t want to be judged and she didn’t want to cause anybody discomfort. We have to ask for what we need because nobody is a mindreader. What is a practical strategy that you use for communication? Rachel and Kyle have scripts that they give out for different situations. You pick out a feeling and put it into a script. The scripts all follow the same process which is based on the acronym AEO which stands for Acknowledge, Explain, Offer. Acknowledge means just acknowledging what’s going on and bringing words to the elephant in the room. Explain is an I statement. We have to explain how we’re feeling and why. “I get angry when you don’t wash the dishes after you eat.” Offer is what is your proposed solution to this. “Hey, I know that last time we talked about this it kinda got out of hand. I don’t want that to happen this time. I feel angry when you don’t wash your dishes after you eat lunch. What I would like for you to do is either wash them or just soak them and leave them in the sink. How does that feel to you?” We’re often not taught these ways of communicating. It really takes mindful attention and practice. Sometimes we might be sloppy and come out with an accusation because we haven’t practiced this. It’s a muscle. This is where self-compassion comes in. We’re going to make mistakes and you can’t shame yourself for things you don’t know. It’s important to try this when you’re not in a reactive state. You can practice with things that are silly to get used to the flow of the formula. What is the question that you ask yourself often? How do I want to feel?  What is the best advice you’ve ever been given? Follow what makes you feel good. If you can replace should with want, it’s a game changer. When word got out that 22 year old Rachel Chang had quit her job as an architect, a former classmate called her in tears saying, “If you can’t make it, what chance do the rest of us have.” In Rachel’s words, she had always been held to a very high standard. People outside of her firm thought she was leaving the profession because she couldn’t handle it. Her boss knew better. He knew Rachel would be quitting even before she did. Make no mistake here. Rachel was very good at her job. It was just obvious to everyone around her that she was not cut out to be stuck behind a desk. As her boss put it, “if you’re this good at a job you hate, then I can’t wait to see what you’ll do when you find something you’re passionate about.” For Rachel the hardest part about quitting were the mental blocks. The fear that she was going to disappoint so many people if she changed careers, or she was going to disappoint her parents, or that she would never find something that she was this good at again.   These fears held her back, until one day she realized she was ready to take back control of her own life. http://www.yourkickasslife.com/160   Hi ass kicker! I’m so excited to have returning guest (two weeks in a row!) Elizabeth DiAlto on the show today for another Q & A episode. So many of you-- on your quest to live YOUR kick-ass life, have dreams, goals, and ambitions, But, what happens when not everyone is onboard or in our cheering section? The two questions today are from women in the YKAL community who are asking just that. We're talking about some really juicy topics, so let’s dive in… The first question comes from Jennifer. She asks: How do you stay committed to your dream when your spouse or significant other is not on board? How do you continue to speak your truth and not just bite your tongue and abandon your dream to keep the peace? Elizabeth and I talk about what to do in that situation-- do you keep trying to get your partner on board, or do something else? We have advice! Then, Rachel asks a similar question: What do you do when you feel like your dreams and ambitions are surpassing those of your family members, and they don't know how to handle it? I've grown a lot over the last couple years, but some of my older siblings haven't. I feel like I'm "showing off" around them now, or like I have to act less-developed or hold back. These are people I still want in my life. I almost feel guilty for growing ? I don't, by any means, feel like I'm better than them, at all. I'm just in a different stage of my personal development journey than they are, and it feels uncomfortable. For Rachel, is this a boundaries issue? Should she “quiet herself down”? We’ve got answers to these Q’s and my guest Elizabeth was the perfect person to have on to help sort things out! And hey-- if you liked this episode you would LOVE  the free workshop we are hosting tomorrow! Well, ELizabeth is going to do most of the talking and I'll be more of her sidekick. I love these kind of live workshops because we get to interact with you and I will be giving away a signed copy of my book during the workshop! Plus, we have a private, “pop-up” Facebook group that you’re invited too (also free) where we can further the conversation. The workshop is titled Four Things You Can Do To Clear Out The BS In Your Life and Be More Receptive To What You Actually Want and you can head over to yourkickasslife.com/elizabeth to sign up for free, or click the image below. Edacious Food Talk for Gluttons

Pie Work. It's challenging. Never-ending. When you make the product you sell the work never stops. Thankfully, for Rachel Pennington baking is a passion. As a result, not only has The Pie Chest on the Downtown Mall become a first-stop for lovers of all things pie, it has become a safe space. A welcoming place where folks from all different backgrounds can meet, talk, commiserate, and create an environment of good feeling and fellowship. The kind that used to exist before people were so bent over their smartphones. Here instead of capturing a moment with a photo friendships develop over the shared love of a dessert in pastry crust. Rachel came to baking entirely by accident. Bored with her current job, she answered an ad on Craig's List for a baker at The Whiskey Jar. The rest is history. When owner Wilson Richey approached her and suggested, "How about we open a pie shop?" Rachel went for it. With only an idea, a vision, and literally no business plan they spent months in development, getting the proper permits, all the rigamarole you have to go through to get something like this up and running. The result is The Pie Chest which opened on 3/14/15 at 9:26 am (3.1415926). Lines were out the door that day and they've never looked back. Her partner Tina acts as Business Manager and Wilson helped developed the interior design, but all the pies are Rachel's, who's become a master baker in only a few short years, developing her pies with a focus on flavor more than recipes. Although the Lemon Chess is Wilson's grandmother's, all of Rachel's concepts come through much trial and error. Working tirelessly, she creates pies full of flavors you can actually taste rather than total bombs of sugar. Her coconut cream is the best I've ever had, full of essence and never too sweet. In fact, it made my Best of List for 2016.  And the chocolate? It's one of her most popular and one I order whole. One slice is never enough once you've tasted its blend of dark chocolate with a secret ingredient you'll just have to listen to the episode to discover. The vibe at The Pie Chest is classic Southern, the types of pies you'd eat with your grandmother. This comfortable atmosphere translates to the decor with homey antique signs and illustrations adorning pale yellow walls reminiscent of Grandma's kitchen. They have savory pies, the mushroom, leek, and gruyere being a personal favorite. There are even breakfast hand pies, or fried pies, Southern in origin and only now coming back into fashion. If you've never had one, you're missing out. Rachel's fit the bill with a delightfully flaky crust and unique flavors like goat cheese, sausage, honey and egg. Good for what ails you and a terrific way to start the day. Rachel uses a commercial kitchen for her baking because when you produce thousands of pies a month, a 700 square food space isn't enough. She needs that kitchen because The Pie Chest still provides all desserts and breads for The Whiskey Jar, Revolutionary Soup, cookies for Milli Coffee Roasters and even does pie weddings! How does Rachel deal with bad Yelp reviews which can often result in moments of Imposter Syndrome? It affects all of us, not just food folks and our discussion on this topic is wonderful because all human beings face this stumbling block. We both agree sites like Yelp do more harm than they help. If you have a problem, address it while you're there! At The Pie Chest, as in so many other establishments, they will bend over backwards to fix it. We also talk about the tight Cville community a theme popping up so much on this podcast. One person says, "Hey, I've got an idea," then 10 people step forward to offer their thoughts and suggestions. What are her tips for the perfect pie crust? In a small town bursting with new bakeries and restaurants how does Rachel find qualified employees? You'll just have to listen to find out. I was thrilled to finally talk with Rachel because her story is so inspiring and she was my earliest podcast supporter, letting me know she listened while baking late at night, offering up her suggestions and encouragement when I was suffering from my own version of Imposter Syndrome. We met in such a unique way. At an event that was a crossroads for the both of us - The Southern Foodways Alliance dinner at The Whiskey Jar in 2013. It was my first visit to a big-name industry conference, attending alone and knowing no one. For Rachel it was her first high-profile dinner where she was responsible for creating a memorable dessert to honor Edna Lewis, the high priestess and pioneer of Southern cuisine. How did she do? Splendidly. Her peach trifle made my "Best of" list that year which gave her the confidence to embark on a career as a baker. Connections. Community. It's the reason I started this podcast and hearing that story again in this episode brought tears to my eyes. Without exaggeration, the single greatest moment of my writing and podcasting career to this point. It tells me I'm on the right path. As is Rachel. One of the missions of The Pie Chest beyond great dessert is to provide a safe, welcoming space to the people of our community. Particularly in this uncertain environment, now more than ever Rachel and Tina want to make sure everyone is welcome. It's why they hung a safety pin in the window. We talk a lot about what hard choices businesses will need to make going forward. How they will adapt and react should volatile situations arise. It's a very real concern and something we can no longer ignore. Even in the bubble that is Charlottesville. This sort of reflection and commitment to creating wonderful moments while eating translates to the environment of the shop where many folks not only stop in for pie but to converse, play board games, and get to know the stranger sitting next to them. Goes without saying more of that kind of shop in this world would be a very good thing. As Rachel says during the interview, "There's always room." And she's not just talking about pie. The Pie Chest is a very special place. Good food, good vibes, good fellowship. The very essence of what a strong community can and should be. Not only is Rachel an exquisite baker, her writing is amazing. Thoughtful and profound, a result of her spiritual studies and background. One post in particular brought me to tears. Worth your time and attnetion. Today we are promising to teach, show and explore the idea of building a collaborative venture that will not only grow your list and grow your income, but will get you in front of the people that your audience members are following all of the time. It’s a product called the BC Stack.  We do it for Blogging Concentrated, and we do it for clients. We help build their “stack,” per se.  We find 65 people in the niche.  In our case, it has always been blogging on internet marketing.  We put together a package with 65 products, and we sell that package for $27.00, and we use the 65 people to help market it by sharing the profits of all of its sales.  So, not only do we grow the list with people who have already been filtered, but everyone gets in front of people they need to be in front of. Benefits of Collaborating with Influencers The primary reason for doing this is because Tom Cruise knows Oprah Winfrey.  Dave Ramsey knows Suze Orman.  The top people in any industry know the other top people within that industry.  As far as I am concerned, the top people do not know you.  You are not at the top of the industry.  You’re just not there.  In order to get there, you actually have to reach out.  It doesn’t happen the other way around.  People don’t just randomly call the smaller people in the industry.  You have to reach out. This is an opportunity to reach out with something of substance, with a reason to say, “Hey look, we’re going to put your product, your ideas, in front of a bunch of other people who have already been filtered.  All of these other people in our niche have already filtered the audience.  Nobody follows them but people that like that kind of thing.  This is your audience too, so how about you contribute a product, and we’re going to put together something that nobody else does.”  Now, all of the sudden, I am talking to Tom Cruise.  Now I’m a position by name. Now the top people in any industry have more of a chance to get on big podcasts and big shows.  If they are ever going to mention your name, they actually have to know it exists first.  I mean, our first major benefit is if you want to be somebody in your industry, you have to meet the other people in the industry, or you’re just the guy in the basement. Outside of our world, validation comes when Dan Rather mentions someone in the news.  If you’re a runner, you’re probably reading Runner’s World magazine.  If Runner’s World magazine mentions you as a good running trainer, that is a third-party validation of what you’ve been trying to do the whole time.  That is part of rolling the snowball of your business, finding ways to make sure that you’re always planting in the minds of your audience that not only does what you’re saying work, but other people respect these concepts. Everyone has objections to buying your product.  Everyone has objections to even following or listening to your webinars. When you can slowly overcome those objections by putting validation in front of your audience, this makes it so much easier for you to say that you have a book coming out and have people pre-order it.  We’re huge fans of marketing to people through filtered lists.  For instance, coming on this particular podcast, these people already exist that are listening to this, which I would like to speak to.  That is much better than a billboard on a highway, which is not filtered; it’s just thousands of people.  So, this is an opportunity to stand in front of a filtered list, and a big list, in a big way. The second benefit, that I didn’t know the first time we did it, was that once it was over people wanted us to come on their podcasts, or they would say, “How do we do something together?” I say, “Send me the copy of what you want me to say to the email list.”  I will send it out.  I will help you reach all of the people that we have gathered.  Not everyone downloads every single product.  There’s always more people on the list than any contributor gets.  That kind of camaraderie like, “Why don’t we build a product together?”  Those more personal JV kind of things are the second benefit.  I didn’t foresee them, but they were very welcomed when people asked. People always say that you should be authentic online.  They try to tell you to be yourself, but the fact of the matter is that everyone is themselves.  That’s not the issue.  [bctt tweet="The issue is how to get an audience to follow you because their interests are your interests?" via="no"]How do you speak in a way that makes people say, “Man, I really need to follow that person because he has things to say that I want”?  What the BC Stack does, that a $25 Amazon gift card giveaway doesn’t do, is it bring in people to your audience who actually, in their heart, want to learn what you teach. You know, when you give away an Amazon gift card, if you want to do some sort of list building thing, then everyone on the planet comes to join your list because they want the gift card. However, at no point in time is there an authentic relationship between you and them.  The filter isn’t there.  The reason why they entered your community isn’t authentic.  It isn’t real.  So, I love this concept.  I might be on your podcast today, but you could also be on mine tomorrow.  That helps you, and it helps us.  It builds that relationship with our audience as well. Step #1 - Finding the Top Influencers Here’s the big picture.  We have a spreadsheet that we call “The Universe”, and in the middle of it, we put the niche.  So, it’s the DIY Universe, or maybe the Blogging Universe.  On this page, we have: Amazon Udemy iTunes Podcasts Magazines TV Stars Radio Stars What we do is go to every one of these sites and we find the top people.  For example, we find the top person on Udemy within that particular industry. We figure out who the top authors on Amazon are for a certain niche.  We learn who the top podcasters are who are talking about the subject at hand.  Then, we build out the universe as it pertains to the top people within the industry we’re looking into.  If you are a player within an industry, you should already know who the top people in that area are. Most of the time, the list that we develop are 90% full of people we’ve never met.  It may be some guy in India who wrote a great guide to blogging.  According to Amazon, this is one of the top sellers, and I didn’t even know it.  But, now I’ve got my universe defined, and all I have to do is reach out and talk to these people.  That’s the big picture. Step #2- Making Contact A member of the team, usually a VA, has to go find this information.  What’s their website?  What’s their Twitter handle?  What’s their email address?  We use a plug-in called Search & Scour for Gmail, and it actually finds email addresses like crazy.  It’s pretty much a Chrome plug-in.  So, I can find pretty much anyone’s email address, and then their Twitter handle, and we put together a letter.  It’s easier for me now because we have three under our belts.  I can say, “Hey, look at what we’ve done before.”  That makes it a much easier cold call. That first cold call letter, we did not reach out until we found somebody that wanted to be on-board.  So, we asked John Lee Dumas if he’d like to contribute to the very first one because I was on his show, and he said, “Great!”  So our very first letter said, “Hey, we’re doing a stack of products.  John Lee Dumas is involved.  Would you like to be involved?”  Basically, we’re leveraging somebody else’s name in the industry that the person we’re contacting has probably heard of.  That shows that this isn’t a fly-by-night type of thing.  It’s real. In any case, that’s the first letter, “Would you like to be involved?  Can I tell you more about it?”  I don’t put any more in it because it really is a cold call.  All I really need from them is to press, “Yes, I’d like to be involved.”  Then the door is open to say, “Let me tell you more.  This is what we’re trying to do.”  And, you reach out to all of them, which takes some time. You know, we have a saying, which is, “Be the biggest small dog you can be.”  In order to get Tom Cruise to say, “Yes, I would like to be involved”… Maybe you think, “I could never get Tom Cruise,” but maybe you go to LinkedIn, and you find Tom Cruise, and you use LinkedIn’s professional tools to tell you the path.  Who are the people that I know who could get to him?  Can I use one to introduce me to another?  An introduction is fantastic because that’s validation right there.  Or, do you use a small guy to get to a medium guy? This thing worked really well, if you remember back in the 90’s, when the very first viral thing online was OneRedPaperclip.com.  It was where a guy turned a paper clip into a house by trading his way up.  This isn’t that different.  We’re basically trading validation for validation to get to where we want to go.  Once you do the first one, you can just use the last one to sell the next one.  You really just have to do a bunch of work on the front-end. Step # 3- Affiliate Set Up The hard part is the affiliate part.  Like, we use aMember. There are a variety of tools that you can use, but you really need to have some sort of software that can produce an affiliate link for your people.  So, once they agree to be part of what we’re offering, we send another email that says, “Hey, here’s what we need, and here’s when we need it by.”  For the most part, I haven’t really asked if they would promote, and a few people don’t.  I’m not as concerned about that.  Obviously, we want them to promote, but I don’t want to be a pain.  Like, I don’t want to be a jackleg.  I mean, it’s not required that they promote After I get their information, the next email that I send, and, this is the hard part and I haven’t perfected this, but it works really well, I send an individual email to every single affiliate.  Now, we had 370 affiliates at the last one.  So that’s 370 emails, and we send them every single day.  It includes their affiliate link, and copy for an email they could send out, and images we create. You know, we create new images every day for the product, saying like there are four days left or three days left.  We send them out individually so that the people who are helping promote do no work.  Like, “Here.  Just copy and paste.  Copy and paste this Facebook update.  Here’s an image you can use on Facebook.  It’s already optimized for Facebook, and here’s one for Pinterest.” We do that every day for the seven days that we do the project.  I don’t really ask for promotion; I normally just give them the tools.  When people ask me about promotion, I basically say, “You are in the business of selling your product.  I’m giving you a one-week opportunity to sell your product with 64 bonus items.”  And, I let them just do what they do.  I always say, “How many books do you think you’re going to sell this week?  20? 15? 8?  How about 100 if you offer 64 bonus items on top of your book?  Just tell your audience ‘Hey, guess what?  My book is on sale this week with 64 bonus items.  You’ll never get this again.’” If your book is $50, and you’re used to making $50, then $50 x 8 is a lot different.  You’re going to make $13 as an affiliate with our product, but you’re going to make $13 x 100.  That’s kind of how we talk to people.  Like, “This could be a no-brainer for your audience.”  They might be saying to themselves, “I’ve really been thinking about buying this product, but I haven’t yet.”  I mean 64 bonus items?  That is a different world than just telling them, “Hey, it’s on sale for 10% off this week.” Let me tell you, as far as I can tell, there is no other way.  If you do affiliate marketing, you’ll know, and you’ll have a list of affiliates, but only 3% of them will keep selling your product.  For the rest of them, it’s at the back of their mind because there are so many different things going on.  It’s not malicious.  It’s just hard.  Unfortunately, in our world, since most people don’t have CEO training, and most people don’t really have a team, the path of least resistance is the one that people take every day.  A good percentage of people don’t even build strong businesses because a shopping cart is too difficult.  They skip it every single day and say, “Well, I’ll get to that later,” because the path of least resistance is writing a Facebook post with an affiliate link. When you do the work for them, it makes it so much easier for them to even be excited about getting on it because there aren’t the stumbling blocks that you have to get over.  Your audience is never going to be as energetic or as grid worthy as you think that they are.  You think that they’re going to be gung-ho to sell your product, but they won’t be until they see how easy it is to be gung-ho and they see that they can probably make money from it since, for the most part, the stack is a no-brainer. Step # 4 - Work The next step is work.  For the next seven days, there are lots of people that are going to email in.  There are going to be questions, problems, and new affiliates that come out of the woodwork.  Hour after hour, you’re going to have to be on your game for seven days.  Like, if somebody wants to promote, I’m going to get their affiliate link, I’m going to get their email ready, I’m going to get their graphics, and I’m going to email them back within like five minutes.  I’m going to tell them, “I’ve got you set up.  You don’t even have to register.  Here it is.”  I do all of that.  I can take care of getting their PayPal email address later, or whatever other crappy detail that I need. For one week, it is work.  For Rachel and me… Rachel is my business partner… It’s a lot of work.  We have people on the team, but still, you’ve got to know, if you’re going to make a lot of money this week, you’ve got to earn it.  There’s really no way around it.  This isn’t an automated IFTTT thing.  It is work.  I like it.  It’s one week.  Get a babysitter because you’re going to need focus time.  Things come up, and you just have to be ready.  Basically, the stack is open for 60 days.  We allow it to be open because if someone important contributes a product that basically means that on his website there is a page where people can come and get it for free, where they would normally pay for it.  If I make him keep that open for life, that is a risk that I can’t make other business owners take. We have tried to open it for 60 days, for everyone to get in and get out.  When they buy it, then it gets sent to PayPal, and it gets sent to.  I guess we can go through the minutia of that, but really, that’s as simple as it gets.  It involves setting up the PayPal button and the affiliate link inside.  You’re going to want to make sure that person’s email address gets added to AWeber and make sure that email goes out in the auto-responder that says, “Hey, if you didn’t get automatically redirected to the page, here’s your download link.”  Then, making sure that on Day 2 they get that exact same email, and on Day 3 they get a similar email, but make sure that you take customer service out of the equation.  You don’t have time for it.  So, you’ve got to keep sending them emails that say, “Hey, here’s your download link,” and/or, “Here’s your password.”  Make sure that’s built in. Now that we have a big email list, we send an email out that says, “Look, you cannot be an idiot business owner.  Just because you paid for 65 items, doesn’t mean you should download them all.  Really, what’s the one item in here that’s going to make you $28?  Because, if you can spend $27 and make $28, that would be a win.  Download that, and do that, and get better.  That way, if you don’t download anything else, you’ve made your money back and your business is moving forward.  If you spend all day today downloading 65 products and getting bogged down by all the different things you have to do to make all of them work, that won’t be a good thing.” That’s not good for the contributors because they shouldn’t download products that they don’t need.  They don’t need you on their lists.  You need to go find the thing that is going to make your life better.  Then, the next time we do the stack, you’re going to buy it again.  That’s what we want.  We want you to stick around for a long time.  At some point in time, if your customer didn’t have the product that he needed today, he’s going to reach out.  He’ll say, “Hey, I did this thing that I got through the stack, and I need help with this part.”  Now, all of the sudden, he has a relationship with someone in the stack. That whole authentic part has to take place.  Our job is to continually be good stewards to that list in order to make sure that people don’t unsubscribe.  A certain percentage will unsubscribe, but if you got on in the first place, how can I make your life better until the next one.  How can I send out an offer that I agree with, that I think is so much better, that’s going to help everyone?  That’s kind of our job.  How do I roll you into the next thing? Understand that this should be a promotion that lasts from a certain start date to a particular end date.  This is important, first of all, because of the laws of persuasion.  One of the laws of persuasion is that there needs to be a sense of urgency.  There are actually countdown times on the sales pages.  That’s because when there is a time limit, you actually feel like you have to take action.  The second part is that you have to limit access.  If you can’t always get it, then you know that you have to take action now because it won’t always be available. I will tell you that many, many affiliates show up on Day 6 and say, “Hey, I just found out about this.  Can you extend it for my audience for four more days?”  We can’t.  I can’t train the audience at any point that something happens beyond the cut-off date because next time, even if 1% of people go, “Ahh.  This will probably be available for another day, or there’s going to be a second offer where they reduce the price,” you’ll lose sales.  That’s because the power to procrastinate is huge. [bctt tweet="It’s very important to remember, if you say something as a business owner, you better live up to it." username="danielhall"]Whatever it is that you say, you have to stick to it.  So, if something is ending on a certain time and date, that’s it.  It’s over.  That’s one of the reasons why when I do a promotion, there’s a countdown timer, and it automatically redirects when that timer goes to zero.  That’s it.  It’s over, and there are no exceptions. Actually, I only allow one exception, and that is if a contributor comes to me and says that a certain person in my audience was on vacation and wants in.  If they say that within a day or two, and it’s the contributor that comes to me, I want to honor the contributor.  I feel like, I don’t want you to say “no” to your people because you’re not the one who created the timer.  This has only happened a handful of times during these promotions, however, and it’s like a lot of rules.  There are always some exceptions, but the general rule of that rule is “no exceptions”. Final Tips There was a mistake that we made the first time, and that was that we asked all of the contributors to contribute the product by the 12th because we were starting it by the 15th.  That worked fine, but what didn’t happen is I didn’t have a moment in those three days to look at the entire picture of everything that had been contributed and come up with angles, or marketing ideas, and put together a more comprehensive and strategic plan, in terms of marketing it for those seven days.  I would love for you to put 15 days, or two weeks, between the contributor deadline and the day that you start.  This way, you can email the contributors and educate them on what else is in it so that they have a better idea about how to sell it, and you also want to do this because it allows you to look at it and organize it, say, on your sales page in different ways. Once you see all of this, you might be like, “Oh man!  I could have grouped these four and these four so that people feel like they got a podcast pack and they got a blogging pack.”  If you don’t give yourself a little bit of time between the promotions, you’ll never see the things that might actually make you more sales.  I would say, spend a month trying to get the contributors so that you can put two weeks between the two.  Not a lot.  You really want those people to be fired up, and if you put too much time in there, they lose sight of what you all were doing in the first place.  You should, however, give yourself time to come up with some sort of strategic plan.  Look for some trends, or patterns, or something interesting. Also, I’ve had an opportunity to be on a couple of the podcasts of contributors who wanted the podcasts to come out the day that it started.  So, if you don’t give yourself a little bit of time, people can’t do that.  Then, we use a simple spreadsheet to keep track of the affiliates and their affiliate links.  Just on the spreadsheet, I kept track of their product names, the link to the website, and the code in case I had customer service problems, to make that very simple.  We did have the sale for seven days. I always try to bring in non-contributor affiliates.  One of my big ones is conferences.  I really like to contact conferences and say, “Look, one of the things that you do is you give like a $150 discount for tickets, but what if you gave away the stack for free?  Like, what if you just buy it for everyone who buys your ticket?”  That’s a $27 discount, and you’re going to get $13 back.  So, really you’re only giving $13 back, but you’re giving people an actual product, which is kind of the LeadPages way of marketing.  Every weekend LeadPages gives away a bonus.  So, I do like to offer that concept up. I like to suggest an idea.  Like, you could say, “Are you interested in marketing this stack?”  That’s nebulous, and they are like, “Well, maybe.”  However, if you say, “Would you like to give away the stack for free as a bonus for someone buying your ticket?  It will only cost you $13, but it’s a cool bonus.”  That gets their mind thinking.  If you say, “Hey, would you like to be part of the stack?  I know that you’re selling your book all of the time, but you could sell it for one week with 64 bonus items,” that’s a different mindset for them.  It’s kind of like if you have a blog and you have a “Pin It” button, that’s a great thing to have, but if you say, “Add this to your Halloween board,” that’s different.  It’s like, “Oh, that is a good idea.  I should add this to my Halloween board.”  The power of suggestion is important. Other than that, there’s the customer service in the backend.  I lost my email address.  I lost my login.  That part is hard to get around.  You can do the email auto-responders, but there is going to be some of that and you’re just going to have to deal with it.  That’s just part of the business.  After that, for us, it’s thinking about the next one.  More importantly, for us as an income source, it’s finding new clients to do that for between BC stacks.  We only do ours once a year, and if we did it more often during the year, I think it wouldn’t be as powerful.  Maybe it would.  Maybe twice a year, but I like once a year. I’ll do it for a DIY blog next week and for a gardening blog a week after that.  We use it as an income source, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that I’m tapping my community for $27 every few weeks.  I like that because, you know, we’re doing the course starting September 12, 2016 and in that I can totally tell them, this is why it’s for you.  You know, every course is 100% for you. I don’t mind tapping the audience for things that I have developed specifically for their needs, but tapping them for the BC stack where there are some things they probably don’t need [is different].  Like, there’s a product on how to load up WordPress.  Most of our audience doesn’t need that.  So, I feel like asking them for the same $27 a week for things that won’t 100% benefit them would be a violation of trust.  Trust and integrity are vital to your business because once you lose it, it’s damn-near impossible to get it back. I do want to say that you also have a responsibility for your audience’s time.  So, when you give them 65 products to download, you’re basically saddling them with 65 things to learn.  Consider that too.  That’s part of being the guardian and leader of your community.  You’ve got to make sure that what you’re bringing is really valuable. Connecting with Dan You can always go to BCstack.com. That’s the page that’s live every year.  In between times, there are links to the past ones so that you can see what we did.  Plus, visiting the site will give you an opportunity to get on the list so that you get notified when the next one is coming up.  Primarily, we run Audience Industries, which is BloggingConcentrated.com.  We also run FindingJoy.net, which is a site about motherhood, which Rachel writes.  It has blog posts that have over a million likes on them. You know, a couple of hundred thousand people a day.  It’s a really big site.  We also run Benefits of Resveratrol, which is an anti-oxidant and nutritional site, and we do that for the specific purpose of learning niche things that we need to do for the audience.  Otherwise, BloggingConcentrated.com is our hub and Provide Podcasts is the way that we do this kind of thing on a daily basis.
