In this episode, I interview Kyle Rodgers of Botfox about how to leverage a little-known, under-the-radar method to find motivated seller leads and cash buyer leads. When Kyle got started wholesaling, he quickly discovered that generation can get expensive really quickly. Also, he discovered that it takes a great deal of time to generate leads when you are going at it all alone. He needed to figure out a way to generate high converting quality leads without breaking the bank and without working lots of hours to get them. That's when Botfox.net was born. Kyle cast aside all other forms of marketing and doubled down on teaching himself how to use Facebook groups to find cash buyers and motivated sellers. He then wanted to scale his business but knew that was impossible by himself. It was then that he developed his proprietary training system to teach others how to generate leads for him! Kyle has put in the work and sweat to develop the Botfox system which is what he uncovers in this episode you won't want to miss.

Digital marketing will be key in helping businesses thrive during 2021, but what to do and when can feel daunting. In this episode we sit down with David Somerfleck to discuss how digital marketing is the great equalizer in the next 12 months. Listen in has he shares from his experience on how small businesses can compete without breaking the bank.About David M. Eventually, David had amassed several decades of experience, working with non-profits, business owners of all kinds, while still working for digital marketing (or “web agencies”) of all kinds until finally starting a solo consultancy in early 2019.Now, David’s semi-retired, enjoying life with is lovely wife, but still ready to help today’s committed business owner make the transition from being operational to establishing sustained profitability and self-reliance.David enjoys hiking, horseback riding, learning new languages, studying technology and business trends, watching Bloomberg and Cheddar, practicing aikido, and helping entrepreneurs reignite their passion for change.About Kyle HamerA sales and marketing veteran with a deep understanding of strategy, digital marketing execution, and using technology to enhance brand impact. Entrepreneurship isn't easy. For some, the idea is born out of technical aptitude. For others, it's about filling a market void. And for a rare few it's about disrupting a market. Tech entrepreneurs are predominately male, so what does that mean for women who have a great idea, product, or see a need in the market? In this episode, we dive into what entrepreneurs are missing in their approach and what female entrepreneurs need to succeed. Loralyn and Kyle discuss:How to successfully launch an ideaWhere to find other like-minded peopleStanding out in a crowdThe challenges of raising capitalThe importance of a like-minded support groupHow women are changing male-dominated space for the better.About Loralyn MearsEnabled with a PhD in molecular biology, Loralyn initially set out on a path to advance science and help humans by disabling mosquitoes in the fight against malaria. Along the way, she learned she preferred sharing information, guiding others and writing about her observations versus being at the bench. The career path as a scientist then a market researcher then a journalist is hardly a surprise: curiosity is at the core of all three and social entrepreneurism is a theme that continues to surface. Loralyn learned to conduct research to inform questions, find answers and solve problems. Crafting complex tech concepts into simple, digestible bits intended for a broad readership has been her focus for more than a decade, enabling me to ghost-write for countless clients to get their stories - and their brand stories - told, including authoring two books herself. Passive income is a myth. Or is it? Many people don't realize that podcasting is a growth market opportunity and if you ask Kristin Molenaar you can use podcasting to create a passive income stream for your business. What does that mean, affiliates, commission, paid ads? Nope, Kristin has a special formula on how you can use your expertise + podcasting to generate a steady stream of leads and market thought leadership. In this episode Kristin and Kyle discuss:The reason why being a podcast guest is ineffective for many entrepreneurs (and how to be a profitable podcast guest instead). Why it’s time to ditch the vanity metrics for true connection (and how I built a 6-figure business with a crappy website and ZERO social presence). Why knowing how to build a successful business might actually be the very thing sabotaging your success. Why work less + make more isn’t just a catchy mantra, but a methodology (and the 3 step process that allowed me to build to 6-figures working only 5 hours per week) How to build the simplest “sales funnel” in the world (one that sells itself andrequires no fancy tech)... it all starts with removing the barriers to connectionAbout Kristin MolenaarKristin is an entrepreneur-enthusiast who lives by the mantra "work less + make more". In this episode, you'll meet Kyle Radick, a Vancouver-based husband and father of two small boys. I've known Kyle a long time and think of him as a driven, motivated and hopeful guy, an attitude he's developed through a ton of hard work as you'll hear in his story. I love episodes like this because as Kyle is telling his story, the narrative is almost unfolding like the best kind of movie with Villains and Victims, Heros and Guides. Kyle attributes his path of personal development to surrounding himself with models and mentors, a lot of self-reflection and deep work and his humble ability to ask for help when he needs it. He's very intentional, working at living his best life everyday. In this episode, he shares with us his daily gratitude practice, how he stacks his habits for maximum effectiveness and follows mentors who may not even know he's there. Kyle has a passion for business in general and He loves getting to know how an organization works, what they feel they need help with and identifying areas they may not even know they can improve upon. That’s why he started Technically Consulting! When Kyle is not hard at work, he spends most of his free time as a husband to his wife Claire and his two boys, Gage and Dax. If he does find a little time to himself, he enjoys craft beer and riding motorcycles (but never at the same time). A gavel is donated, the Society begins a new fundraising endeavor, listeners launch a “fan” group with transcription efforts. In the main discussion, this first of two parts lays the foundation for the Society’s main project of finding the best products, services, and methods—introducing and depicting the problem to be solved. N.B.: If you are using an inferior podcatcher, like Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, or Spotify, the following “show notes” will be truncated, missing links, missing formatting, or otherwise mangled. Please switch to a decent podcatcher or see this issue’s notes at http://www.sisyphiansociety.org/proceedings/v01n004. N.B.: For disclaimers, rules, and prefaces, see Vol. I, No. 1. N.B.: The Society might earn a commission for purchases using “buy on...” links below. Learn more. Minutes of the Meeting. For corrections to this issue, see errata of future issues. The meeting of the Sisyphian Society was held on Tuesday, 14 July 2020, remotely, the co-chairs pro tempore being in the chairs and the secretary being present. 0:00:38 Refreshments. Called again for Dunkin’ to sponsor Proceedings. Discussed Kyle’s potentially misunderstood comments about Dunkin’ in Vol. I, No. 2. Played interview clip, sent in by Mr. A., to serve as apology. Praised Dunkin’s definitionally freshly made donuts. Discussed Dunkin’s name change. 0:05:41 Meeting called to order with first rap of the Fraudulent Gavel. Gavel was provided by Sorkness Machine, “your first choice for custom manufacturing needs”, marking Society’s first tangible gift from a listener and first corporate patron since publication of Proceedings began. Discussed questionable Lincoln Logs-esque audio profile of gavel and sounding block; authentic Apexstone gavel Kyle assumes Sorkness Machine purchased [buy on Amazon]; (non-Apexstone) gavel Kyle actually received [buy on Amazon], (poorly) wrapped in Apexstone packaging. Considered investigating vast underground counterfeit-gavel industry. Discussed using hardcover copy of Robert’s Rules of Order [buy on Amazon] as sound-deadening foundation. Called for other corporate patronage. 0:11:06 Introduced topic of main discussion, to occupy second half of this meeting. 0:14:30 Discussed duration of Proceedings. Discussed indulgence from Vol. I, No. 3, typical podcast formats and lengths, and lengths of most-popular radio show in America (The Rush Limbaugh Show) and most-popular podcast (The Joe Rogan Experience [which had been discussed with regard to Spotify in Vol. I, No. 3]). Cited analysis from JRE Facts (not to be confused with Java Runtime Environment). Mentioned longest episode of Rogan’s podcast (featuring Alex Jones), interdimentional vampires, old sense of apology. 0:19:29 Addressed elephant no longer in room: Matt’s audio. 0:20:35 Errata. Mentioned Tyler Compromise of 2020. [See Vol. I, No. 3.] 0:21:07 Vol. I, No. 2. Correspondence, Scooby-Doo, and Humor. 0:21:10 "two kudos to Mark" was grammatically incorrect, as kudos is an uncountable noun. Kyle asked whether Society should award merits (and demerits) or points instead. Matt will work on developing axiological crosswalk for differentiating three parallel structures for various sorts of praise (and condemnation). 0:23:08 Vol. I, No. 3. Talk Radio and Podcasts. 0:23:10 Audio continued to suffer problems, including chair noise. Kyle provided at least partial explanation for marble sounds. Kyle installed a second pop filter. 0:25:16 Matt called issue an “episode” multiple times. Kyle will attempt to correct that particular error in-place from now on. 0:25:24 “We’re goin’ real fast” should have been “We’re goin’ really quickly”. 0:25:37 For accuracy of quotation, “That’ll learn ’em” should have been “This’ll learn ’em”, and “That will teach them” should have been “This will teach them”. 0:26:07 “I don't have the notes that Kyle has, so I never know what’s happening” was libelous. Matt and Kyle are experimenting with a new color-coded shared agenda. 0:26:51 Kyle apologized for not having explicitly extended invitation to wood-burn grandmother’s table to First Official Loyal Fan David. 0:27:43 Award of one kudo(s) to Matt will be grammatically corrected upon development of Matt’s new praise system. 0:27:50 David’s description of first-generation iPod contained numerous errors. See Wikipedia on 1st generation iPod. 0:27:07 Matt had said he never expected to receive “the new or cool thing in . . . in the realm of gifts”. Kyle pointed to the Christmas of knives as further counterexample. Matt disagreed. 0:30:02 Spotify does not truncate show notes. (It just creates every other possible problem with them.) 0:30:18 Kyle had said Spotify paid Joe Rogan $100 million. Exact amount is unknown. Source said it was more than $100 million. 0:30:30 “I actually did try to find any sort of open-source podcast app for iOS and I couldn’t” should have been “free and open-source”. Also, by “iOS” Kyle meant to refer to operating system on iPhones, iPods, and iPads, but Apple renamed operating system for iPad to iPadOS in 2019. Kyle requested new blanket term. Matt suggested “the family of operating systems formerly known as iOS”. 0:32:14 Minutes of the last meeting were approved. 0:32:23 Discussed renaming “Updates” to “Follow-Up”. Matt moved to “give into the modern fads and call this ‘Follow-Up’.” The motion was adopted. 0:34:07 Discussed whether and precisely when to rap gavel upon adoption of motions. Again cited Robert’s Rules of Order [buy on Amazon]. To prevent men bursting through doors, will attempt to use gavel in this way. 0:35:36 Follow-Up. 0:35:39 Listeners have still not updated Scoobypedia, despite Kyle’s request in Vol. I, No. 2. Renewed call. 0:36:56 Society’s website now appears on first page of Google results, as first, second, and fourth result, for sisyphian society. Search term sisyphian still invisibilized. Set new goal of overcoming that. 0:38:39 Society’s call for gavel was heeded. [See above.] 0:38:45 No one (successfully) publicly shamed Matt for clicking. Kyle urged listeners to remain vigilant. 0:39:21 Follow-Up on Podcasts. 0:39:42 Kyle mentioned benefits of MP3 chapters: built into file, enables various compatibilities with players, more easily recalculated than timestamps. Nevertheless, Kyle believes they remain unusuable, due to length and formatting of chapter titles [as discussed in Vol. I, No. 3]. 0:40:33 When Kyle said Spotify could know one’s browsing history, he meant Spotify, not Web, browsing history. [Matt’s not listening to music was discussed in Vol. I, No. 3.] Kyle argued why this is nevertheless a significant problem. Matt suggested listeners should investigate domain of possible advertisements on Spotify. 0:43:16 Kyle discussed why the existence of a free-of-cost Spotify plan is no consolation. 0:43:53 Discussed problems of pointing listeners to website for show notes. Discussed disclaimer now appearing at top of Proceedings’s show notes. 0:45:09 Regarding worry about podcasts replacing human relationships, cited interview in which CEO of iHeartMedia described the podcasting business as one of “providing companionship”. 0:46:24 Kyle had to forego discussing worry about number of young women interested in true-crime podcasts. See “Social Psychologist Amanda Vicary and Spotify Reveal Why Women Are So Obsessed with True Crime—And Share 4 New Podcasts Coming in 2020” from Spotify, “True crime: Five reasons why women love it” from BBC Radio 4, “Why are women obsessed with true crime? Rachel Monroe has some answers” from The Guardian, or “Why Do Women Love True Crime?” from The New York Times, as examples of recent commentary on this phenomenon. 0:47:00 Mentioned painful technique for postponing agenda items. 0:47:20 Kyle mentioned in Vol. I, No. 3 that he could provide his podcast recommendations in that meeting’s minutes. However, he wants to provide commentary on them, so he is postponing those recommendations to future meeting. 0:47:51 As further evidence of Kyle’s arguments about benefits of transcripts, noted that after last meeting, Matt, David, and Kyle were able to find podcast episode David had discussed (about man discovering treasure) only because a transcript of that episode had been published online. 0:49:13 As David and Matt assumed in Vol. I, No. 3, listeners to Proceedings have in fact begun a collaborative transcription project. Listener Mark, whose correspondence had been read in Vol. I, No. 2, has started Sisyphian Society Podcast Forum Facebook group, for discussion about the podcast and transcription efforts. Cited description of group and inaugural post. Discussed benefits of group being fully listener-controlled. Group boasts four members. Called upon 39 other listeners to join group. Suggested members of group decide upon term for themselves. Kyle proposed referring to Mark as Benevolent Dictator. Cited “benevolent dictator for life” tradition. Matt attempted to declare Proceedings “an anti-Hitler podcast”, in violation of Society’s rule about discussing politics [see Vol. I, No. 1]. Disclaimed about myriad problems with Facebook, to be discussed at future meeting. Mentioned "friends of the library" groups as potential model. 0:55:46 Announcements. 0:55:53 Have not received any new Apple Podcasts/iTunes reviews. Renewed call. [See Support for instructions.] 0:56:03 Proceedings is now in Stitcher. 0:56:39 Called for reviews on Stitcher. See Support for instructions. 0:56:49 Read Stitcher review from listener “Definitely Not Kyle”. 0:57:39 Postponed Kyle’s rant on podcast directory/application “badges”. 0:57:58 Vol. I, No. 1 enjoys 122 unique downloads. No. 2 enjoys 98. No. 3 enjoys 73. Suggests both good retention and that doubling duration of issues had (slight) positive effect on listenership numbers. 0:58:33 Appealed to listeners who are not friends or family members of Matt or Kyle to leave voicemail message, for sake of demographic data. [See Correspondence for instructions.] 0:58:53 Treasurer’s report: Society has joined Amazon’s affiliate program. Society will earn small commission on qualifying purchases made, by listeners, using “buy on Amazon” links in minutes. Details available at Disclosures. 1:00:09 Discussed Kyle’s lifelong love of baseball, baseball cards, and baseball cards of Christy Mathewson in particular. Kyle requested a T206 Christy Mathewson HOF Portrait Piedmont 150 PSA 8.5 POP 1 NONE HIGHER slabbed baseball card [buy on Amazon] from listeners or (aspiring) patrons. 1:03:03 General Correspondence. 1:03:10 Kyle thanked those who sent unofficial personal correspondence to him but noted it must be passed over due to time constraints imposed by the Tylers. Discussed creating addtional patron-only program in which Matt and Kyle could respond to all correspondence. 1:03:53 Postponed voicemail message from Benevolent Dictator Mark. 1:04:11 Discussed voicemail message from Kyle’s mother, asking whether it is possible to listen to Proceedings over a telephone call. It is not. 1:04:46 Called for correspondence. 1:05:21 Main discussion, on best ways to find the best (Part 1). 1:05:33 Introduced topic. 1:09:30 Argued the need for a resource for finding the best. Mentioned Thesaurus.com, Apple Maps, Kelley Blue Book. 1:13:22 Discussed example of this need (mentioned in Vol. I, No. 1): best way to set, control, and monitor temperature of refrigerator. 1:17:47 Discussed further series of examples of this need: Kyle’s recent vehicular saga. Mentioned Yelp, Chick-fil-A, reviews on Google Maps, Angie’s List, Reddit, risk of a cut brake line, discombobulator, Kyle’s “[free and] open-source computer”. (Matt requested listeners send him a Windows 8 (or higher) computer.) Mentioned Jiffy Lube, Firestone Complete Auto Care, John Mulaney on Delta Air Lines, portable car jump-starters, 2006 Chevrolet Impala LS [buy on Amazon], other people complaining about Impala’s foolish trunk-opening design for same reason, Cash App, Venmo, PayPal. Postponed Kyle’s rant about imperial versus metric units. Mentioned car-battery charger Kyle purchased [buy on Amazon (but not recommended)]; need to schedule replacing of products that go bad over time, like batteries and food; inadequacy of word best; COVID-19 pandemic; Bonchon Chicken’s pen-disinfectant method. 1:49:40 Summarized takeaways from this Part 1. Finding the best is not a new problem, so humanity has no excuse for having failed to solve. Mentioned Farmers’ Almanac. 1:51:50 Introduced Part 2. Discussed what we are not looking for: being nitpicky for the sake of being nitpicky, over-systematizing, Sheldon’s obssessive particularity on The Big Bang Theory. Whenever a multitude of “guides to the best x” already exists, that is itself a sign of the problem and a source of further problems. Mentioned Consumer Reports, Wirecutter. 1:55:30 Called for listeners’ correspondence, especially regarding any sources they use to find the best products, services, or methods. 1:56:06 Next meeting’s topic will be Best Ways to Find the Best, Part 2. Hope to give listeners a “fun” issue after that. 1:56:42 Again thanked Sorkness Machine for patronage and called for more corporate patrons. Hope to provide method of non-corporate patronage soon. 1:57:13 Meeting adjourned. Respectfully submitted, Kyle, secretary *** “How do any of you have time for hobbies?! Isn’t your whole life just a series of discovering things that are broken that need you to go fix them?!”
Kyle Williams shares his story of healing from a moderate-to-severe diagnosis of ulcerative colitis. For complete show notes, visit http://youcuredwhat.com/podcast/kyle[1:45] Kyle gives his background with ulcerative colitis, which started in 2015 or 2016. He was going through a stressful time in his life. [3:00] Kyle noticed blood in his stool (he was 29 or 30 at the time). [4:00] Kyle had his first ulcerative colitis flare at work shortly after noticing blood in his stool. After that, he was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. [5:30] After the initial flare, Kyle's overall health went into a tailspin. [8:00] After taking antibiotics, Kyle began having horrible abdominal pain and got C. diff. [12:40] From California, Kyle moved back in with his mother in Florida. [15:00] Kyle began eating a new diet: the Specific Carbohydrate Diet. [18:00] Kyle noticed slow progress from the Specific Carbohydrate Diet. [22:00] Kyle began seeing a therapist to see if that would help his health. [23:40] After a while on the Specific Carbohydrate Diet, Kyle went on a binge at 2017 Christmastime: ice cream and pancakes galore. [25:00] Kyle went back on the Specific Carbohydrate Diet, and things were not getting better. Every bowel movement was bloody and painful. [26:15] Kyle began feeling shame; he was buying adult Depends because he was afraid of soiling himself. [27:30] Kyle began going to a support group and he went back onto medication in July/August 2018. [30:15] From his initial diagnosis of mild ulcerative colitis, after getting another colonscopy, Kyle was diagnosed with moderate-severe ulcerative colitis. He was at risk of needing to have his colon cut out surgically. [32:30] With medication and a nightly rectal enema, Kyle's bleeding stopped within a week. [33:10] Backtracking to March of 2018, Kyle had a horrible panic attack and convulsions and Kyle had to be taken away from a convention in an ambulance. [35:20] After the panic attack, Kyle began seeing a new doctor. Kyle's new doctor, Dr. Marcus Ettinger, told him that he should consider the carnivore diet (eating only animal foods and salt). [36:40] Kyle's doctor (the one before Dr. Ettinger) told him that the drug he was on (mesalamine) was not going to work anymore. Kyle was going to have to go on Remicade/Humira, an immunosuppressant. This drug is extremely expensive ("a crap-ton of money"), it compromises the patient's immune system, and once you go on it, you may never be able to come off the drug. [39:45] Kyle decided he would go on the carnivore diet. [40:50] When Kyle started on the carnivore diet, he ate just beef, salt, and drank water. [46:25] What results did Kyle see upon adopting a carnivore diet in October 2018? [48:00] Kyle began weaning off medications in March 2019. [50:50] What other steps has Kyle taken beyond the carnivore diet in his healing journey? [51:30] Even beyond diet, Kyle's doctor promotes the importance of environment (light, water, and magnetism) on biology (and therefore health). [54:20] Kyle thinks his resilience is improved (he can cheat greatly on his carnivore diet at times without feeling ill effect) because of his improved environment. [58:50] What changes has Kyle made to improve his environment? The first item he changed is reduce artificial light, especially blue light (a specific spectrum of light). He uses blue-blocking glasses for this. [1:02:10] Kyle also credits getting more sunlight with improving his health. Especially morning and evening sun. [1:09:00] Kyle has also seen benefit from utilizing the Wim Hof Method. Kyle has done the Method's specific form of breathing exercises and cold exposure. [1:14:45] "I could not have made the health recovery I have made while caring too much about what other people think of me." [1:17:45] Does Kyle consider himself cured of ulcerative colitis? [1:19:00] Now that he has improved his health, what's one thing Kyle enjoys doing that he couldn't do before? [1:23:00] Kyle gives his closing thoughts regarding humans being made to be outside, regarding comfort, and regarding personal growth.
I welcome the one and only Kyle Gray as my guest for Episode 7. An internationally acclaimed spiritual teacher, and a fellow member of the Hay House family, Kyle is the bestselling author of Angel Prayers, Raise Your Vibration and Angel Numbers. He’s also super cool, super relatable and a little bit boojee - breaking the mold of what it means to be spiritual. Kyle had his first spiritual experience at just 4 years old, and began working with spirit at a very young age. In this episode he reveals the astonishing experience that led him to his calling and how his journey has unfolded from then until now. We dive deep into an introduction to angels, and Kyle defines exactly what the word means to him, describing them as ‘God in drag’. He even reveals how to start working with angels for anyone who’s not sure where to start. We cover angel numbers too, and what each number specifically means, so you can start noticing them in your life and deriving meaning from them. As Kyle is so relatable, we mull over how it is totally possible to be spiritual and live a ‘normal’ life. Kyle believes that we are each becoming our own gurus and teachers, so there’s no right or wrong when it comes to following your spiritual path. We also talk about pure consciousness, the Ascended Masters, and how clairvoyants have even been feared in the past. This episode is a must listen for anyone who considers themselves spiritual or anyone wanting to begin living a more spiritual existence! Introduction. Audio and editing quality was poor. Kyle cannot edit that heavily from now on. Apologized for plosives, lip smacking, and overuse of brilliant. Discussed Kyle’s additional recording rules for himself, to prevent some such errors in future. When Kyle said “golden coins”, he should have said “gold coins”. When Kyle said “I was a group of ... it was like, two or three people”, he should have said “I was in a group of . . .” Public credit to listener David for reporting error. When Matt said lifehacking had become about “how inefficient you can do something”, he should have said “how inefficiently you can do something”. When Kyle said “you can hover your mouse over the comic and . . . title text pops up”, he should have said “you can hover your cursor or your pointer over the comic and . . . title text pops up”. When Kyle said, “I’ll list you some of these things”, he (probably) should have said, “I’ll list for you some of these things”. At this point in the errata, Matt requested someone donate The Cambridge Grammar of the English Language [buy on Amazon] to Society. When Kyle said, “the second category are fun topics”, he should have said “the second category is fun topics”. When Kyle gave Society’s telephone number, he forgot to give first (international) digit. Full number is +1 805 538 2382. Kyle began with a long digression on poor quality of Scooby-Doo animated series, citing Jamie Malanowski’s criticism of franchise’s mystery, humor, and animation, and plot “formula” as described by Wikipedia article for Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!. Kyle endorses only Season 1, Episode 10 Scooby-Doo and Guess Who? and Season 2, Episode 25 of Batman: The Brave and the Bold (featuring cast of Scooby-Doo). (At this point in published issue, editorial audio comment was inserted, to discuss clips that were played, sufficiently enough to warrant “fair use” claim. Kyle requested listener add accordion/concertina error to “Inconsistencies/continuity errors and/or goofs/oddities” section of entry for Scooby-Doo and Guess Who? episode in Scoobypedia. Kyle also cited Season 4, Episode 13a of Johnny Bravo, Scoobypedia note on questionable canonicity of Batman: The Brave and the Bold episode, and Scooby-Doo characters’ brief cameo in Season 2, Episode 22a of Duck Dodgers.) Debated merits of Scooby-Doo. Kyle said he would not allow children to watch any of the shows, briefly praised Looney Tunes in comparison and reaffirmed desire to discuss those theatrical shorts at future meeting, and said he would not allow children to join gang either, citing Wikipedia article on Scooby-Doo with regard to “presumed subversive themes”. 0:50:53 Personal correspondence to Kyle from George expressed willingness to serve as guest or co-host. 0:51:52 Voicemail message from Kyle’s mom requested definition of Sisyphian, requested technical support, and expressed well-wishes. Kyle and Matt discussed being blocked by Google’s overzealous spelling correction and coined terms invisibilization and Sisyphianed to describe said phenomenon. Discussed original (and correct) spelling of Sisyphian from Oxford English Dictionary (subscription required to view). Cited The Silkewormes, and Their Flies by Thomas Moffett. 0:55:52 Voicemail message from Joel criticized Matt and Kyle for being unlike “great artisans or inventors of the past“ (see Vol. I, No. 1), “like Thomas Edison”, and offered conflicting sentiments about Proceedings. 0:59:58 Discussed impropriety of humor. Cited The Rule of St. Benedict (other formats). Discussed strategy with reference thereto: proselytizing gradual move to sobriety. 1:03:35 Next meeting’s topic will be podcasts. Called for collaboration and peer review, especially regarding the topic of podcasts or any previously published issues. See Correspondence for instructions. 1:05:17 Meeting adjourned. Respectfully submitted, Kyle, secretary * * * “I’m a well-known bad MIDI keyboardist.”
It wasn't long ago that selling face to face was the preferred way for many sales professionals to call on clients. Then COVID-19 hit and put everyone in quarantine. Even with the country re-opening, many offices are adopting a work from home policy making it challenging for outside reps to return to their normal selling patterns. What does this mean for the sales professional who's built a career on charisma, working business problems, and meeting for drinks/dinner/outing to close a deal? When Kyle was growing up, he experienced the very torment so many Touretters can relate to -- being bullied, being punished for tics, a lack of empathy within the family, et cetera -- and in turn vented angrily to the people around him. Once he noticed his young son, Bryson, was clearly displaying tics, Kyle was determined to give him a different outlook. Today, Bryson, 9, is a highly focused taekwondo competitor viewed as advanced for his age, so much that people around him view his Tourette as a strength. Posting videos of his training and words of Tourette positivity, Bryson has built a following on Instagram. Now, his entire town knows his face -- it's on a giant billboard advertising Tourette Awareness Month, which begins now -- May 15 -- and runs through June 15. There is some discussion of CBD and marijuana in a medicinal sense on this episode. Remember, Tourette's Podcast is not a medical advice show; any discussions of medications or forms of treatment you hear on the show are just things we talk about in the course of discussing individuals’ experience. We covered the question of marijuana for TS treatment in last week’s episode. In other news, the Tourette Association of America’s Virtual Conference begins today (May 15). Kyle Stanley is the host of the Fearless Flipping podcast where he educates new hungry real estate investors about best practices for getting started. Kyle is also a master with AirBnB and believes it's the best form of almost-completely-passive income in today's economy. Podcast Highlights Who is Kyle Stanley? Kyle doesn’t like the term “serial entrepreneur”, he prefers the idea of FOCUS (focus on one course until success). Kyle had to make a lot of adjustments over his career based on his skills and what he enjoyed. Kyle started out as a sports anchor in Colorado for a local news station, started a sports videographer company, and moved into the MLM world where he got his first taste of the idea of passive income. In 2018, Kyle’s dad’s health took a turn for the worst and ended up in a hospice which led to Kyle slowing down and reflecting on what he really wanted to do with his life. He began to listen to podcasts on real estate investing and found the idea to really resonate with him which was how he ended up getting involved with fixing and flipping homes. Coincidentally Kyle had been house hacking his home with an AirBnB business without realizing that that it would also count as working in real estate. Once he really started to look into what else he could do with an AirBnB business, Kyle went from earning $1000 a month to $15,000 a month over the span of five months in 2019. Even in the days of the coronavirus Kyle’s short term rental business is still doing very well. Why videography? Being a sports anchor means being a one man band so Kyle learned a lot of different skills as part of the job. He also learned that he didn’t particularly love being on the news and he saw an opportunity to make videos for athletes to help them get into college. He took what he learned working in news and put it into a business that he believed he could thrive in, but lacking mentorship at the time was a serious downside. The Passive Income Transformation Kyle hadn’t even heard the words passive income until he was 26 years old. Kyle’s model for entrepreneurship was his father who ran a very successful business, but running the business meant extremely long hours. When Kyle got older he realized that his father was a slave to his business, something Kyle did not want to be, and it wasn’t until Kyle started working in the MLM did he get exposed to the idea of outsourcing and making a business more passive. Getting around people on a higher level that had learned how to create systems that can automate income is what first changed Kyle’s mindset around business. The missing piece was something that he was passionate about and real estate ended up being the key. Kyle now helps more people in the short term rental industry than he ever did pushing vitamins and supplements. The Allure of Real Estate and an “AirBnB Business” The big thing for Kyle when he got started flipping properties was helping people get a better return on their money. Creating all the job opportunities at the same time was a nice bonus as well. Kyle is also a numbers person, so analyzing a deal and crunching the numbers makes him excited. When he started looking at AirBnB as a business and he found that he could make $20,000 to $30,000 on one project,

In this interview, Kyle and I discuss our time working together, and how he’s been able to lock in on his vision to create wealth for his family by investing in real estate. Kyle gives some great advice to current/former athletes that you won’t want to miss. Thank you to @hakvalles80 and @gopickjoe for stepping in and being a great resource for Kyle throughout this process. Your insight and words of encouragement have been invaluable. In this episode, Cody has a conversation with Kyle Clayton, the owner of Chilkat Valley News. To understand how Kyle ended up in Haines, he starts with the four years he served in the army. He explains that his upbringing in Indiana instilled in him a feeling of isolation, like the rest of the world and the experiences it held always felt out of reach. That was, until the army opened up the world to him. When Kyle left the army, the camaraderie of his friends, and the extreme experiences, he said civilian life made him feel alienated. So, he was constantly searching for those extreme environments and battle-born friendships. That’s how he eventually found himself in Alaska. Now, as a reporter and the owner of Chilkat Valley News, he does his part in helping to tell the story of Haines, Alaska.
Once you get a multifamily deal under contract, the clock starts ticking. You have limited time to raise capital, so it’s super-important that you’ve already built relationships with potential investors and have a database to call on. But how do you transition from simply talking to people about the opportunity to invest with you to building a formal pipeline of truly interested investors? Kyle Mitchell is Managing Partner at Limitless Estates, a multifamily firm investing in the Phoenix and Tucson markets. He started investing in single-family in 2015, building a $1M portfolio of nine properties in Illinois, Ohio and Arkansas, before quitting his W-2 job to pursue multifamily in 2018. Within two months of going all-in on apartment buildings, Kyle landed a 42-unit deal, and he is currently negotiating a $15M 128-unit deal. Kyle is also the host of the Passive Income Through Multifamily Real Estate Investing Podcast. Today, Kyle joins me to explain his decision to quit his 9-to-5 before he had a multifamily deal, discussing the benefits of going full-time and the way he got brokers to take him seriously. He shares the details of his first multifamily syndication, describing how he raised $1M in 60 days and why he had to switch lenders late in the process. Kyle Kingsbury is the office guinea pig at Onnit and he tries pretty much everything that might optimize the human experience – but, lately, the most important things haven’t been the latest and greatest biohacks. His focus has been on self-management practices that help him manage his mindset and his nerves. It’s been a constant journey to return to stillness and find peace – a path that all of us could benefit from walking. Our monkey minds freak out because they feel like there’s so much to do and not enough time, but inevitably, things get better. We get wrapped up in what the hurdles are and we forget to appreciate what we learn from overcoming them. A mindset shift can help kick off the journey: Everything in life is happening for you, not to you. It’s exceedingly simple, but truly believing that will help you develop a greater mastery over life and your experience of it. A life that doesn’t include the purpose of learning and evolving is just going to be filled with existential suffering – but none of us need to experience that, especially not when there are people like Kyle out there testing next-level human optimization and life mastery techniques then shouting what works from the rooftops. Topics Discussed In This Episode: Kyle’s recent plant medicine experiences Returning to stillness to find peace Using hindsight as foresight Anxiety is time wasted We always have a choice over how we experience life What the heck Penis Envy Mushrooms are Using plant medicine with reverence and intention Not all mushrooms are created equal When Kyle took a heroic dose of mushrooms with his dad How adding MDMA to a mushroom cocktail can add to the experience Why MDMA will probably be legal for therapy in just a matter of months & the transformative healing effects it can have Nicotine is the greatest nootropic on Earth My one experience with MDMA (that ended with a high-speed chase) Hunting for your meat – because life takes life What Kyle learned about life and himself from his most recent hunting experience Why it benefits to understand the paleolithic evolution of humankind More about this episode. Hi everyone. It’s your moral compass, Rit Saraswat. And this is housewives tonight. Before we dive in, we need to talk about Camille. Discuss the video with Kelsey Grammer, where Oprah mentions that Camille said he was a cros dresser. Kelsey says: I’m a very entertaining complex guy. I’ve never been a cross dresser. But I have been very sexually adventurous. Oprah: Can you tell me what that means? Kelsey: No of course not! That’s for the bedroom! They laugh. But Oprah keeps laughing hoping he’ll elaborate. He doesn’t. Throughout, he can’t even say her name. “I did believe I owed something to that person.” Oprah: You won’t say her name? Kesley: No. Kelsey goes on to say that he owed Camille something because she claims she gave up so much to be with him. (Fame basically.) Kelsey said he didnt watch that season. He missed out… it was event television at its finest. Then Kayte comes out. Kate with a Y. Oprah has one arm up on the back of her chair, and goes, “You’re painted as the other woman. What do you have to say about that?” Oprah is TOTALLY pro Camille here. It’s amazing. As Kayte explains herself (and she basically is like, I don’t know how to explain it!) Oprah has this look that’s like… I see you. Squinting and everything. Then Kayte goes on to compliment Kelsey’s children that he had with Camille, and Oprah was like, ‘well then she must have done something right, because that doesn’t happen on its own.’ Oprah: Let me ask you the ultimate question… are you happy? With a sappy look they say, we’re happy, yeah. Oprah pushes harder. “Are you happy… or are you getting there?” they look at each other silently… Kayte: I’m…… Kelsey: no no we’re happy!! Kaye: we’re happy, yeah…. Kelsey: We have a love that can survive anything. And Kayte’s willingness to try is… breathtaking. Oprah to Kayte: did you know about RHOBH? Kelsey: I told her that I was doing it as a going away present. I SWEAR there is a moment where Kelsey said that Camille used to give him advice on how to court Kayte! RHOBH ACT 1 Previously On… Camille: she makes the MORNING AFTER HANGOVERS Erika in the flashback waiting for dinner is like beauty and the beast… you will join me for dinner… thats not a request!! Kyle feeling like Erika is in a bad mood or upset with her seems like she’s projecting a little bit. KYle always wants to be a popular girl and fears disapproval from the popular one. Now that LVP is gone, Erika is technically the most popular. RINNA CHECKS IN ON ERIKA Do we REALLY believe that Kyle and Teddi don’t remember anything? ARCHERY Boring, then Teddi pulls her over. Erika’s like ok….. ERIKA COLLECTS APOLOGIES Teddi vomiting compliments onto Erika. You’re a good friend, you’re kind, you’re nice!! And then says that she didn’t mean what she said. I think Teddi is lying about not meaning what she said to Erika. People say shit when they’re drunk, but Teddi very specifically listed the things that Erika does that she finds unlikeable. Drunk people don’t do that. Kyle’s style of apologizing: stroking Erika’s hair, and saying “Erika I’m sorry if I hurt you last night.” DIFFERENCE IN APOLOGY: Teddi grovels, Kyle pets and strokes and subtly says “I’m sorry IF…” When Teddy apologized Erika was like “I forgive you because you’re weak and beat yourself up.” When Kyle apologizes Erika was like only a few people can really hurt me, and Kyle is one of them. Erika doesn’t give a shit about Teddi. Where was Dorit this act??? ACT 2 Back in LA….. CHECK INS Erika checks in with Mikey, Kyle checks in with Faye, Dorit checks in with PK. Dorit named a coverup Camille and is ready to confront her. CAST DINNER - Where is Kyle..? Is it weird to do like a clothing drive situation at this restaurant? It seems impersonal. Denise saying there was soot everywhere and there’s one shot of it in the doorway. It’s probably all they had on camera but still… Camille arrives. Scott died, Rinna’s like “sorry about THAT!” sounding super fake. Then Camille goes on about her daughter and Rinna is like, Ay yi yi!!” Camille talks about her vacation homes and going to get a Burberry coat. Then she throws shade at Denise about her rented house… Camille is awful even in this situation! Theory is they included that story and Rinna’s bite about not having sympathy for the wealthy so that we don’t feel TOO bad for Camille during the fight later. ACT 3 DORIT’S WINDOW UNVEILING She starts to micromanage and have them move things around just to sound like she knows what she’s talking about. PK awkwardly takes two steps forward and says, “Honey, I’m so glad you said something about that, because it’s not working.” As if he has ANY idea what’s going on. This is the blind leading the blind. Then Dorit says, “The sandbox is supposed to have diamond sand.” Maybe you can’t see anything because you have giant thick sunglasses on? She goes inside to “put out fires in the 11th hour.” Again, with her sunglasses on. How can you arrange a window display when you can’t see color. TEDDI AND DENISE SHOPS AT BA&SH What is the name of this store? Baandash? Then the lady says, “Hi welcome to Bash!” What? Why is there an ampersand in there? Teddi remarks that Denise is cool as a cucumber… does Denise have actual damage…? Teddi brought Camille a journal? Does Camille strike anyone as a journaler? Denise saying Camille should look at her house burning down as a fresh start… that is VERY optimistic. ACT 4 KITSON REVEAL Dorit just has a little wall with her shit on it? These clothes look really badly stitched. Dorit is wearing a word hair clip just like Erika was in the last dinner. Erika’s said Damn. What is Teddi wearing… bright blue power suit, dark red lip, swirly earrings. Is the general public not coming to this reveal…? They totally took down that window after this scene was shot. Ripping off the glad trash bag to reveal this underwhelming display. It looks like it took 5 minutes to set up. Camille - her reveal was a garbage bag! That’s what I said! Erika running up late and getting complimented on her boots… the ultimate show stealer. ACT 5 DINNER Kyle inviting everyone to her event… they always invite each other to the next event at the current event. How did they pivot from LVP not coming to the wedding to the crap Camille had been talking about Dorit? I love that they’re like oh we CERTAINLY don’t want to bring this up after your house burned down!! But ok if you insist! And they all went IN on her. Teddi: I think what’s confusing is you say one thing and then say another… what are you saying behind MY back? ...that’s verbatim what Kyle said before. Also Teddi is always confused. Montage of the things camille has been called… remember: what was said about her after season 1 is what she says made her a victim just like Brett Kavanaugh. Everyone laughs it off… but Dorit has to bring it up again. Camille responds she had to get to know Dorit better, like where she gets her money from. Erika is watching this dinner theatre. Kyle biting her finger. Camille strikes back about the Dorit’s money situation. Kyle was right, Camille either lays down and takes it or comes back with daggers. ACT 6 DINNER PART 2 Camille DRAGGING Dorit for where hse gets her clothes, money, her glam… its amazing. WOW Camille saying that you have to look out for people who live beyond their means, because you don’t know if they could be friends with you for the wrong reasons. Camille smelled a rat this entire time, sort of like a lot of us did. She thinks Dorit is a big ol’ fake and she’s finally calling her out. CAMILLE: no it’s true!!!! That PK owes her friend some money. Camille is so composed. She learned that shit from Kelsey! Rinna bringing up what Kim said about her husband… SHE LITERALLY SAID NOTHING!! Camille then swinging around saying she’s protecting her. She is a PERFECT villain. So condescending and twisty and turny. Dorit flipping her hair saying I cant with this girl. She knows it’s true. Camille: There’s lawyers involved too. Aaron: What’s going on babe?? Denise: Just Keep Eating!! Denise tellign Camille to be quiet?? Denise: SH!!!! We’ve been waiting for Dorit and PK to be dragged for SEASONS! Let us enjoy it!! Denise: There are certain things that don’t need to be talked about at goddamn dinner. Everyone leaves… did… the food arrive? Did they just walk out on the check? NEXT ON…. Camille thinks that Teddi snubbed her daughter at the airport… can anyone pick Camille’s kid out of a lineup? Teddi is too desperate to be liked to snub anyone. The fact that she wouldn’t snub anyone is precisely what makes her a bad housewife. Camille then comes for Rinna for telling Dorit what she said. Well of course, Rinna had to know that was coming. While everyone is flipping out at each other… HAHAHAHA Lisa getting crowned in the next on. Amazing!! She’s really just her happiest.
Rit recaps this week's Below Deck and its delightful homophobic chef Mila, and the strongly accented crew that surrounds her. Then he floats his boat over to French shores to check in with the ladies of RHOBH, where Kyle and Teddi engage in a circular argument with Erika, and Dorit wears a $6,000 dress to go downstairs for dinner. Hi everyone. It’s your moral compass, Rit Saraswat. And this is housewives tonight. Before we dive in, we need to talk about Camille. Well of course, Rinna had to know that was coming. While everyone is flipping out at each other… HAHAHAHA Lisa getting crowned in the next on. Amazing!! She’s really just her happiest.
Every seller should create good content as a tool to gain leads, grow their business, and increase overall success. Kyle Burt first heard The Sales Evangelist podcast two years ago when we interviewed Alex Berman about using video in sales. Kyle, who once chose business school over film school, went home and started making videos. Massive success Kyle quickly turned his video capability into massive success for himself. Before video, he was using cold calls, email, and "screaming from the tops of mountains," knocking on every door and delivering cookies. When you're starting out, you have to be willing to do whatever it takes. He realized that video provided a good strategy to get leads. But he shifted his focus to making videos because he wanted to make videos. He realized he had a level of value and a perspective that wasn't being shared. Kyle recognized, too, that only the people in his bubble would understand the content he was posting because it was niche content. Coca-Cola He established a weekly schedule because he knew he had to post consistently, and he introduced Whiteboard Wednesdays. It was a chance to introduce different technologies. Maybe 20 videos later, he was on vacation in Cancun in 2017 when he got a LinkedIn message from the VP of technology for Coca-Cola. He assumed someone was pranking him, but in fact, the gig turned into a consulting opportunity with the company. When Kyle realized the VP had seen the very first video he ever posted, the most awkward of the bunch, he knew that he was on to something with video. Objections In the case of objections, sellers often face their own objections to appearing in or creating videos. "I don't look good enough for the camera." "I don't have the right equipment." "There isn't enough time to create videos." The important parts of the content are good audio and good content. [Tweet "When you see something that looks like a commercial, smells like a commercial, and feels like a commercial, most people run. Instead, be relatable in your videos and focus on the message. #VideoContent"] Fear of the comments In my own case, I've been slow to take advantage of YouTube because I'm a little bit afraid of the comments I might get. People can be nasty sometimes. The point is that there will always be the possibility of those comments. Someone once told Kyle he sounded like a little baby. He wasn't even entirely sure what they meant by it, but he had to let it roll right off. You have to be ready to take it on the chin when you put yourself out there. You're going to get some good and some bad. Internalize the fact that nobody has it all figured out, and then realize that people are genuinely good. Most people don't want to tear you down, so don't spend your time on the small number of people who have something negative to say. It's worth noting, too, that stories only survive for 24 hours, so they won't live forever. If you create a bad one, it won't be around for long. Even with LinkedIn, the feed algorithm means that it might technically always be there, but it will be harder to find. Persistence We spent two years trying to get Kyle on the show but we couldn't make it work out because of different schedules. Our recording day is Monday because it's what works best for my team, and sometimes we have to bypass opportunities if they don't fit with that schedule. In Kyle's case, he was persistent. He got early access to LinkedIn Live, which as of this writing is only available to a few people, and he invited me to connect with him. After 18 months of no real interaction, he reconnected with me and we made it work. He grabbed my attention and we ended up recording with him on a day outside of our normal schedule. Disrupt the norm. Create good content that stands out. LinkedIn reach My good friend Stephen A. Hart from the Trailblazers Podcast pointed out recently that there are 9 billion impressions on LinkedIn every week, which amounts to 468 billion impressions annually. Of those, only about 3 million users are creating content. That means there is a lot of space to create more free content. You can't find that kind of visibility on YouTube, Facebook, or any other platform. Basically, there are a small number of creators and a huge number of impressions, so it behooves you to grab a piece of the video market. I happened to get into podcasting early when there were only a few sales podcasts. Now I'm a grandfather in the podcasting world. Much innovation seems to happen with consumers first. The business world moves more slowly because there are more considerations to think about. The marketplace dictates what it wants. Coffee With Kyles Kyle previously collaborated with another guy named Kyle to launch a video podcast called Coffee With Kyles. Now he's working on a solo style show that will primarily involve live video. It will allow him to eliminate a lot of the editing and create more interactive experiences. In the case of this podcast interview, our audience can't interact with us right now as the interview is happening. When they are finally able to, it will change the game. The goal is to get more people engaged and online. When you go live, you can't stop the show because something goes wrong. Kyle said he has gone live five times and has broken the system five times. Because of his persistence, he was one of the few to beta test LinkedIn Live, and it allowed him to connect with people and build relationships. If you try to be known, you'll miss the mark. If you create good content, you will be known. It's all about who knows you. If you aren't creating some form of content or interacting with content on social media, you are irrelevant. Figure it out quick. If you're a writer, write. If you can do video, do that. If you can do audio, do audio. Figure out your lane and experiment. Every seller should create good content. Rachel Wright is a marriage counselor and licensed psychotherapist. She is recognized as one of the freshest voices on modern and millennial relationships. Referred to as “bridging the gap between a self-help book and a therapist’s couch, she is one half of Wright Wellness Center, where together with her husband Kyle, they are helping people have better sex, relationships, and mental health. They’ve created a healthy, communicative, and passionate relationship by using the very same techniques they teach — Everything we have developed is research-based. She has been featured widely in the media including Cosmopolitan, Women’s Health, PsychologyToday, and dozens of other outlets. How did you and Kyle meet? They were both working in restaurants. Rachel had just completed her master's degree and needed a part-time job. She started working at a brand new restaurant as a server and Kyle was part of the training team. Immediately they hated each other. They would frequently argue and she thought he was an arsehole. After the training Ryan would stay in touch by contacting her on Jewish holidays. A year later Rachel joined Kyle and the training team to open the companies 4th restaurant. And they could now stop talking. They connected deeply and realized they had both found their person. Can you give me a little snapshot of the timeline? Met and hated each other. A year later reconnected and kissed. 3 weeks later Ryan told her that he loved her. 6 months later they moved in with each other. They were engaged after 2 years and married after 16 months. They have now been married for 2.5 years. How’s it going? Phenomenally. People think just have a great relationship that they don’t work on. But after both of them saw their parent’s go for divorce they knew they had to put in the work if they wanted a relationship to last a long time I had love at first sight with my husband. What was that like? We were on a blind date set up by one of his friends. We met at a wine bar and when he walked in there was an energy about him. He was so sweet and I just got that immediately. I hadn’t felt like that before, it was so easy. For me, I felt like I could really be with this person. I kinda just knew. I know that sounds weird but that was my experience. We all have these judgments around things in our lives, especially when our friends experience things very differently. It strikes us as weird. And it’s natural to have some uncertainty, right? A lot of times the uncertainty is about us more so than the other person. For Rachel, she had a lot of uncertainty when she first met Ryan. But what she didn’t consider was the ability for people to change. When she saw him a year later he was not the same person. So how did you go from training in a restaurant together to having your own relationship company together? After she completed her Masters, she continued her psychotherapy training by getting her 3000 hours for her license and started her own practice. She had been working towards this for so long and it was amazing. For about 3 months. Her focus was on couples and sex therapy. People would come in with the same issues. Body image, anxiety, their upbringing around sex and communication issues. Couples would come in calling each other names and were not able to decide what they wanted for dinner without arguing. Kyle was still working in restaurants and had worked his way up to a fancy restaurant in San Fransico as the Head Bartender. Rachel found she wasn’t actually doing any therapy and healing people. She was teaching them how to communicate with each other. Although she enjoyed doing that work, it wasn’t what she went to school for. Kyle thought she should create an informational package about how to talk to your partner. As she worked on it Rachel realized that Kyle had an ability to take her technical knowledge and put it into layman's terms. She sent the packet out to prospective clients and then realized that her clients stopped coming in. They no longer needed to come in for therapy. The law in California was so strict that she wasn’t able to sell the packet. They decided to create something online to provide this information to people. They realized there is nothing between self-help books and going to therapy. Rachel knew that Ryan was an important part of this idea because he could take the complicated things Rachel explained in a way people understood. Rachel wanted to go into business with Ryan but he was reluctant because he had these narratives about how he was in restaurants and hadn’t been good at school. In 2015, they started their business. They weren’t even married yet. I love how organic it was. They had the business idea long before they thought about starting a business. Rachel didn’t even see her private practice as a business. When did you shift into that business mentality? I know that can be difficult for some service practitioners. She will approach things as a clinician and not as an entrepreneur. She will look at the decision from the point of view as both a clinician and as a business person. She thinks there should be more business training in therapist training. Does Kyle have a degree or certification? Rachel jokes that he has an honorary degree because he now has enough knowledge to pass the licensing exam. Fiends and family wonder what Kyle does in the business because he doesn’t have that piece of paper. We all learn differently and it’s important to respect that. When Kyle is passionate about something he learns it quickly. But at school, he didn’t want to study things that didn’t mean anything to him. When they started the business, Kyle definitely felt some imposter syndrome. When did you start therapy? What was the reason? Rachel started therapy when she was 14 after her mum read her diary. She thought Rachel was hiding things and after reading the diary discovered that Rachel had smoke marijuana and slept with her boyfriend. Rachel was sent to therapy. She was pissed. However, after her first session in therapy, she knew she wanted to be a therapist. What about it had you feeling that way? She had never felt more seen, heard and understood. Her therapist matched her cursing and agreed that the way she ended up at therapy was not right. She helped Rachel understand her parent’s motivation and that they cared. So what happened? She left and told her parents that she had done nothing wrong but would keep going because she really liked it. She saw her therapist throughout high school and on and off during college. And now they are colleagues. How long were you in therapy for? Weekly, for about 3 years. What was the biggest thing you got out of that experience? She learned that she was a people pleaser and that if she ever wanted to have a healthy relationship with both herself and a partner, she was going to have to navigate anger and conflict. It such a big part of the human experience. We’re going to experience conflict if we’re going to express ourselves. How to manage that skilfully is so important and we are often not taught how to do that. We reap so many rewards when we work through conflict. One of the biggest misconceptions around conflict is that it’s bad. In relationships, whether it’s friends family or lovers, conflict is what helps us grow and get closer. If we don’t have conflict, that means that we don’t care because we’re not speaking our truth. We don’t get taught how to communicate and handle conflict but we also don’t get taught how to identify our feelings. How would you recommend someone who is experiencing conflict, in any relationship, be it intimate, at work, with family members, navigate the situation? Conflict is often due to different beliefs, values, opinions, and priorities. We need to listen to understand instead of listening to respond. In our culture, we are trained to listen to respond because if we don’t respond immediately we can be mocked for it. We’re not taught how to listen. Listening is half of communication. Relationship researchers John and Julie Gottman have this term ‘share meaning’. Which means do you share the meaning your partner assigns to things. Do you share the same meaning about what a home means, what money means, what communication means? We have to get on the same page about what things mean in our lives. I heard John Walker speak at his Launch Con, a few years ago. And he said - “All problems boil down to a problem in communication.” What do you think? She agrees that most problems come down to communication and that we’re all afraid to ask for what we need. When Rachel was a teenager, her people-pleasing came from a fear of asking for what she needed because she didn’t want to be judged and she didn’t want to cause anybody discomfort. We have to ask for what we need because nobody is a mindreader. What is a practical strategy that you use for communication? Rachel and Kyle have scripts that they give out for different situations. You pick out a feeling and put it into a script. The scripts all follow the same process which is based on the acronym AEO which stands for Acknowledge, Explain, Offer. Acknowledge means just acknowledging what’s going on and bringing words to the elephant in the room. Explain is an I statement. We have to explain how we’re feeling and why. “I get angry when you don’t wash the dishes after you eat.” Offer is what is your proposed solution to this. “Hey, I know that last time we talked about this it kinda got out of hand. I don’t want that to happen this time. I feel angry when you don’t wash your dishes after you eat lunch. What I would like for you to do is either wash them or just soak them and leave them in the sink. How does that feel to you?” We’re often not taught these ways of communicating. It really takes mindful attention and practice. Sometimes we might be sloppy and come out with an accusation because we haven’t practiced this. It’s a muscle. This is where self-compassion comes in. We’re going to make mistakes and you can’t shame yourself for things you don’t know. It’s important to try this when you’re not in a reactive state. You can practice with things that are silly to get used to the flow of the formula. What is the question that you ask yourself often? How do I want to feel? What is the best advice you’ve ever been given? Follow what makes you feel good. If you can replace should with want, it’s a game changer. Summer and Mike here for another fun episode of the Everything Always podcast! Today, we’ve a special guest on the show – Mike’s best friend, college roommate, and our officiant – Kyle McGregor. Kyle was in a relationship with someone who had an 8-year-old, and the relationship ended eight years later when the (not-so-little) girl was 16. When Kyle met his ex, he didn’t meet her daughter until 6 months into the relationship. This was a good thing and allowed for his ex to determine whether he’d stick around before bringing her daughter into the mix. And, over the next eight years, as his relationship matured with his ex, he bonded with her daughter. When things didn’t work out, his relationship with both ended and it was extremely hard. If you’re a step-parent, dating someone with a kid, or parent who is thinking of bringing someone new into your kid’s life, tune in. There are some important lessons we can all take away from Kyle’s story. 01:00 – 10:00 – Introducing today’s topic and guest 10:00 – 18:00 - Kyle’s experience when dating his ex and getting to know her daughter 18:00 – 25:00 - What happened when Kyle’s relationship went south 25:00 – 35:00 - The lessons Kyle learned through his experience 35:00 – 43:00 - Being empathetic, being emotionally mature, and looking inward 43:00 – 48:00 – Summarizing the takeaways of Kyle’s story

When You “Tripped Up” in Partnership About 5 months ago, Kyle was working on a very important project for some clients he has. He was working some very long hours so he was pretty stressed out. During the same time, Kyle’s partner went to a concert with some friends but he wasn’t able to make it because of the project. After the concert, he went to pick her up in downtown Seattle, where there’s a lot of traffic. She took a while to come out to the car because she was talking with some people. With everything going on, this anger started to stew in Kyle. Find out what happened next by listening to the podcast episode. Proudest Moment in Partnership His friend comes to mind, who is having a very tough time with family right now. When Kyle first had his outbreak of psoriasis he had a lot of shame around it and didn’t reach out to many friends. He would frequently meet up with one of his friends at this lake in Seattle, and they would simply just walk and talk. What he loved is that she would make 15-20 minutes to go on these walks a couple of times a week. It meant a lot to Kyle, especially being vulnerable as a guy. Find out what happens next by listening to the episode. Current Partnership The first thing that comes to mind is Kyle’s current romantic relationship. He’s so proud of the relationship they’ve built together. They, like everyone else, have their fights from time to time but everything is great. This week we are joined by former screenwriter/actor, founder of KIF1A.org, and 2018 Rare Champion of Hope Honoree, Luke Rosen, who talks to us about the “We Need a Mouse” campaign. Luke and Kyle met at a rare disease event. When Kyle had their picture taken with his phone, Luke noticed the “2 Disabled Dudes” logo on Kyle’s cell phone case and only then recognized that Kyle was part of this podcast, which Luke listened to regularly! (Please remember to check out our merchandise page, because this shows us that it can help form connections!) Luke was at that event because his daughter Susanna was diagnosed with a rare disease. When he spoke about his daughter, you can hear him smile even over the audio, as he explains that she is the strongest little girl there is. Of course in character and patience, but literally too: she has ridiculous upper body strength. (Unlike Sean.) To hear Luke describe his career, he cornered the market as construction worker #1. However, his IMDB page is actually quite impressive, spanning his career. After his daughter’s diagnosis, he took a step back from his acting career, as his focus had changed. He noticed a recurring and foundational question when it came to asking about researching his daughter’s rare disease. “Is there a mouse model?” Based on the constant dead end of that question, Luke and his wife began the “We Need a Mouse” campaign, which brought up the reality of rare conditions needing more research, by utilizing a cute phrase that has been shared by tens of thousands of people, including children, songwriters, and even puppets. https://youtu.be/CARSxwtGKvo https://youtu.be/WjinWaS2lMs On August 22, Luke and his wife are excited to perform in a play called Love Letters. It’s a Pulitzer Prize winning play which will take place at the Roy and Diana Vagelos Education Center at Columbia University benefiting formance support the treatment program within the Center for Rare Pediatric Genetic Diseases at Columbia University Medical Center --. For a lot of us, pain is a necessary catalyst for change. For me, it was hitting rock bottom with my drug addiction. For Kyle Kingsbury, it was watching his parents’ abusive relationship and years of struggling with suicidal thoughts. But while standing naked on the ledge of a parking garage on the verge of taking a suicidal leap to his death, Kyle felt, for the first time in his life, that he wasn’t alone- that there was more to life - and that he was loved. It was on that fateful ledge that Kyle realized that whatever needs to be done to find fulfillment, needs to be done internally – he wasn’t going to fix his mind or body with any pill or diet fad. Not long after that experience, Kyle started his career in professional mixed martial arts with the UFC. He had an outlet, he had a team, and he had a significant goal to work toward. Plus, he was good at it, and that helped. (This primal warrior won his first two fights in under 30 seconds.) While fighting, Kyle dove deep into health, wellness, nutrition, and biohacking, with some detours into the world of plant medicine. All of this prepared him for his current role as Director of Human Optimization (AKA the company guinea pig) at Onnit, an incredible company dedicated to Total Human Optimization (and a biohacker’s best friend). Once you experience the power of a proper diet, supplements, nootropics, cold thermogenesis, breathwork, and even microdosing in the pursuit of Total Human Optimization, you’ll feel the difference – and you’ll know that this biohacking stuff is more than just a bunch of trends. Topics Discussed In This Episode: How Kyle used fighting as a coping mechanism, early and often Advocating for the useful drugs & against the destructive drugs Learning to quiet the mental noise without narcotics What it’s like to struggle with suicidal thoughts as early as seven years old The respectful camaraderie between professional fighters How getting put on the bench in college football fueled Kyle’s fighting The pain of genuinely believing that no one will ever love you When Kyle realized he wasn’t alone & there was more to life... while standing at the edge of a suicidal plunge to death The boxing coach that brought Kyle to traditional sweat lodges before and after every fight camp Discovering the world of plant medicines: psilocybin, ayahuasca, and more How diet, supplements, nootropics, and even microdosing play a role in Total Human Optimization Why Kyle had to be a bouncer and bartender at a strip club almost the entire time he was in the UFC What it’s like to experience a life of Total Human Optimization A day in the presence of Kyle Kingsbury: breathwork, cold thermogenesis, killer workouts, and more The transformative plant medicine experiences that Kyle has gone through with his wife (and the insane sex that they have had while using various substances) Teaching your kids the right & wrong ways to use plant medicines + other parenting insights More about this episode. When Kyle isn't hanging around with partners like 43-time combined Grand Slam Champion Roger Federer and Serena Williams, he's one of the smartest voices in Sports Marketing. Kyle gives a good perspective when working for a business with large marketing budgets and how to be nimble and different when your budgets aren't so big. He always brags about the Luxembourg experience and recommends international studying for every single student. Make sure to root for Kyle's partners in the coming months, and to follow him at @kyleschlegel15.
Kyle is a founder and managing partner at H L Homes, a Houston based real estate investment company, founded in 2011. He and his partner, Eric, formed their LLC to start flipping houses as a side gig. In 2014, though, the business expanded into a larger business to grow it and make it official. When Kyle first quit his job, the situation became “how do I monetize this and start making money quickly?” He started heavy marketing and going to appointments, but their buyers list was growing from the start. His first move became to network with other investors throughout the Houston area to meet other wholesalers. He would ask for their biggest problem and be there to fill their issues. Buying houses from wholesalers that no other investors wanted became their niche area, and generated lots of revenue in their first year. The tactics depend on the wholesaler or the other investor. Sometimes, they’re just looking for exposure. At that point, Kyle and his partner just look for a percentage of the fee. As long as the other investors are happy and continue sending deals to them, they want to make it as equitable as possible. There are also a few investors who are just looking to entirely wholesale the property, in which case Kyle and Eric take it on and become the assignees for the property. What contracts in place do you have? Is it just trust built? It depends on the individuals. When Kyle first started marketing deals to people, it was exclusively a trust thing. The majority of people are honest, that’s just how business works. If you’re helpful, you will get help in return. The few people who were either dishonest, or didn’t close the deals, ended up parting ways with Kyle. A few years in, the title company gets invoiced for either a set amount or percentage depending on what got negotiated. If H L Homes took it, it would be a standard assignment. Because of the invoice to the title company, you know you’ll be paid at the closing. Definitely something to keep in mind. No title company will close a property without fulfilling the invoice. “Shout out to Allegiance Title Sugar Land!” We know the title company wouldn’t turn their backs on an invoice. Why are you transitioning away from wholesaling? There are several things that lead up to that transition. H L Homes started taking feedback from their sellers. “Of course, we thought we were great,” Kyle said, “but how can we make it better?” What they found is that what a seller wants more than anything is to be respected and be told the truth, and to have as few inconveniences as possible. Start off being honest with intentions when it comes to price, and if it doesn’t work then we can market to other investors with different buy criteria. There are other wholesalers saying they would close on a property, and then not come through. Kyle found that they were losing deals by being honest when others were closing by not being honest. Going on a private money raise and tweaking the buy model helped them to be able to buy fast to help the sellers. Being able to take properties down to wholesale gives Kyle more time with the properties. Because of this, Kyle is able to access different buyers because of the time allowed to advertise the market to. Have there been times when you’ve lost money for taking down the prices? Short answer: yes. It’s going to happen, but not frequently. Usually, money isn’t lost on “short take downs”. Typically, it’s on rehabs where estimates are done wrong, or a contracting issue comes up. Most of the time, the worst case scenario is already known. There are the buyers who have bought from us in the past, so we know what to sell to them. Because Kyle knows his buyers, the confidence in closing is significant. What’s the process after closing? As long as they have access to the property before hand, they try to do pre-market, however, most things are done at the same time. Listing, blasting to the buyers list, etc. Whatever the property will be sold for at open market value is what Kyle and his business sell for, which makes great deals for the end buyers and his business. As far as listing, H L Homes does it themselves. There are 7 people in-office who all have different jobs to do. Eric, Kyle’s business partner, is on the sales side. Most of what happens in the business is done in-house. “Except our online marketing,” Kyle says, “LeadPropeller does that for us.” All of the property management, construction management, etc. is all done in-house. The long answer is: they manage sales, closing, and acquisitions in house.

On Butterflies of Wisdom today, Best-Selling Author, Win Kelly Charles welcomes Kyle Bryant. Kyle was diagnosed with Friedreich’s ataxia (FA) at age seventeen and found that as the disease progressed he had to give up the sports so interwoven in his life growing up in Northern California; sports such as golf, baseball, basketball and football. When Kyle's FA had progressed to a point where it became unsafe for him to continue riding his bike, he put a stop to the loss of the activity he cherished. He took back control, purchased a recumbent trike, and resumed his riding with passion. Kyle started small with an initial ride of 7 miles. However, fueled with a passion for pushing the limits and do more with his life Kyle built up to a century ride (100 mi in a day) within four months of his first ride. Upon completion of his first time, he decided that the sky was the limit. In 2007 Kyle founded Ride Ataxia with a 2,500-mile 59-day ride from San Diego, CA to Memphis TN. The goal of the ride was to raise awareness and much-needed research funds for FA, a disease that has no treatment, no cure, no hope…until now. Kyle and Ride Ataxia did not stop in Memphis. Kyle’s cycling feats include Sacramento to Las Vegas, NV, Portland, OR to Seattle, WA, and completion of Race Across America in which his four-man team finished the 3,000-mile race in 8 days, 8 hours, and 14 minutes. With his trike as the vehicle of change, Kyle took his hopeless situation of no treatment, no cure, no hope and turned it into an opportunity to do something great for himself and many others. In 2009 Kyle became the Spokesperson for the Friedreich’s Ataxia Research Alliance (FARA) in their mission to cure FA. With Kyle as the program director, Ride Ataxia has become FARA’s Marquee fundraising event with challenging yet family friendly bike rides all over the USA – welcoming 2500 participants and raising $800,000 per year.
