There's a new diversity in town: GENERATIONAL diversity. .... While it's not “new”, it's “new” because we are now shining a light on it, naming it, and weighing the pros and cons of it. Of what it means in our work relationships, and in our organizations. How DO we take this reality and use it to build the body of Christ where we work? .... By respecting each other's differences, and seeing the benefit of every generation and their unique perspectives and contributions. As Paul wrote in Ephesians: But their evil intentions will be exposed when the light shines on them, 14 for the light makes everything visible. .... Where do you need to shine the light on generational diversity in YOUR workplace today?

How did your parents influence your career decisions? Do you think their guidance helped or hindered your career path? Were you given opportunities to explore different career options in school? How did that impact your career choices? What do you think is more important when hiring: a candidate's educational background or their passion and skills? Why? Do you think today's educational system adequately prepares students for the future? How can it be improved? In the latest episode of the Better Learning Podcast, host Kevin Stoller engages in a thought-provoking conversation with Tyler Dugar, offering a unique blend of perspectives on education from both a parent's and a corporate world's viewpoint. Reflecting on their own educational journeys, Kevin and Tyler delve into the critical mistakes they made when choosing their career paths, emphasizing the vital importance of allowing students to explore various career options and make informed decisions for themselves. Takeaways: Empower Students to Explore: Students should be encouraged to investigate different career paths and have the freedom to choose what excites them the most. Realistic Career Views: Schools need to provide students with honest and comprehensive insights into various professions. Preparation for Life After High School: The focus should be on equipping students with the necessary skills and knowledge to thrive post-graduation. Hiring Criteria in the Modern Workplace: Companies are increasingly valuing skills, passion, and cultural fit over traditional indicators like college prestige. Avoiding Career Pigeonholes: It's essential to recognize and nurture the unique talents and interests of each student, rather than forcing them into predefined career paths. Generational Diversity: Each generation is diverse, and it's crucial to avoid broad generalizations when considering career guidance and development. Tyler Dugar is a leader in the consumer products manufacturing industry and has had a front-row seat to the changes in new employees' preparedness, values, and attitudes over the last twenty years. He is passionate about hiring and training in a way that enhances company culture while improving both the products brought to market and the lives of employees and their families. With four children between 12 and 18, educational preparedness is always top of mind. Tyler lives outside of Nashville, Tennessee with his wife and children. Sound Bites to Ponder: "Don't necessarily do what others tell you to do. Play an active role in deciding your career path." "Expose kids to different career options and let them decide what makes them happy." "The focus should be on skills, passion, and cultural fit when hiring, rather than the prestige of a college." GENERATIONAL DIVERSITY: AGE & AGE-ISM We all care about diversity and inclusion, but there seems to be a hierarchy as to which measures of diversity matter more than others, mainly gender and ethnicity. And yet perhaps most egregious form of discrimination is against the older worker - who we will all one day become - who are often stereotyped as stuck in their ways, lacking energy and initiative, overly expensive, a management problem and the rest. Let's also not be afraid of real talk - age is real, and no question as our minds and bodies degrade we may be more or less suitable for or interested in different types of work What is the state of age and ageism in the workplace, and what can in TA / HR do about it? - Egregious examples of age-ism - Job search as an older recruiter - Common reasons why employers discriminate against older workers - Hiring manager vs TA - who is responsible for this? - Techniques job seekers can use to increase / optimise chances of progress - Employer side - who is doing anything about this? - Examples from Saga - Examples from BT - What can TA / HR leaders to today to mitigate ageism and create a generationally diverse workforce. Must attend folks We're on Friday 8th September, 2pm BST with Steve Jewell, Contract Recruiter (CSM Corporation), Cindy Trotta, TA Manager (Sperry Rail), Jo Dalton, Founder (JD & Co), Vicki Leonard, Senior TA Partner (Saga), & Matthew Howe, Head of Volume Recruitment (BT Group) Follow the channel here (recommended) and register by clicking on Save My Spot Ep222 is sponsored by our buddies Greenhouse Last month, Greenhouse hosted a webinar focused on Inclusive Hiring in an AI World. The idea of finding your purpose can be annoying, because it's almost become cliché, and many don't feel it's an authentic statement at all anymore. However, when you find someone who is really living their purpose, you feel the energy and commitment in everything they do and say. Neerja Singh is one of those people, and when I first met her, I was completely struck by it. As we got to know each other more, I started to understand the deep pain she experienced to find her path to purpose, which made me admire her even more, and throughout my life, I've been privileged to know many people who found their purpose after experiencing something profound and heart-breaking. The people I admire the most, without question. Neerja is now on a mission to shine a light on generational disconnect, which is so harmful to societies across the world. In this podcast, Neerja shares her journey, provides some really interesting context on the challenges within India that also translate to many other parts of the world, but also the really interesting idea that the disconnect means we have lost our combined values system. I could relate to so much to what Neerja said and I hope you find value, so you can discover the deeper resonance of what makes you tick, so you too can live your with purpose. It definitely takes Uncommon Courage to live a life of purpose, so be inspired to step into yours. The following is a conversation between Tim Elmore, Founder & CEO of Growing Leaders, and author of A New Kind of Diversity: Making the Different Generations on Your Team a Competitive Advantage, and Denver Frederick, the Host of The Business of Giving. One of the biggest and most disruptive shifts that the American workforce has seen is the vast diversity of several generations working together, and this generational gap has become an undeniable source of tension in the global workplace, which includes nonprofit organizations. Yet only 8% of US companies even recognize the impact of diverse generations on teams. Here to sort this all out for us is Tim Elmore, the founder and CEO of Growing Leaders and the author of A New Kind of Diversity: Making the Different Generations on Your Team a Competitive Advantage.

Segment Idea How to Leverage the Power of Generational Diversity to Create Better Teams, Organizations, and Workplace Relationships Generational differences have most certainly existed in the past and in many cultures, but as we live longer and the cycles of technology and its cultural and media impact continue to accelerate, we find ourselves working in environments in which more and more markedly different generational cohorts need to collaborate and empathize with each other. The Big Idea: Orwell wryly noted, “Each generation imagines itself to be more intelligent than the one that went before it and wiser than one that comes after it.” Differences of any kind—whether they be race, religion, gender identity, point of view, or values—can make us or, if we let them, just as easily break us. The So What: In recent studies at the University of California to find the source of what the researchers called the “kids these days” phenomenon, researchers asked adults about such things as authoritarian tendencies, intelligence, and enthusiasm for reading. To no one's surprise, they found that younger generations were judged by the older ones to be deficient on the traits in which they [the older] happen to [believe they] excel. Specifically, they believed members of the succeeding generation lacked respect for authority, didn't read, and were getting dumber. However, this perception is not an accurate reflection of who they are, and compounding this problem, nowadays many long-standing work processes such as feedback, teaming, and evaluation are no longer compatible with the evolving generational outlook. At the same time, firms are squandering the potential value they could get out of leveraging generational diversity Key Messages: Regardless of our generational identities, we all benefit from understanding where others come from and what they need to get their jobs done well. With wit and keen insight, organizational behavior expert Chris DeSantis delivers thoughtful, direct, and actionable guidance we need to better navigate generational friction that can drive misunderstandings both in life and in the workplace. DeSantis can discuss: What distinguishes stages of life from generational differences The impact the hybrid workplace has on different generations How our generational moment, place of birth, and life circumstances shape how we interpret new information and experiences What makes stereotyping inevitable and pervasive and how we can mitigate it How the transition from Company “Man” to the new transactional labor market impacts lifestyle and the economy Employee engagement and the future of work

There are currently four to five generations in the workforce. While this may seem to be a leadership challenge, it's actually an opportunity to gain competitive advantage, if you know how to leverage the contribution that each generation brings to the workplace. Part 2 of an interview with the author of, A New Kind of Diversity - Making the Different Generations On Your Team a Competitive Advantage, Dr. Tim Elmore.
Whether you are a member of a multi-generational family business or a leader in a growing organization, you are undoubtedly aware of or even frustrated by the conflicting demands of today's workplace. Trying to work out what people want to come on board, stay on board, and be engaged is no longer a one size fits all. This can, of course, be not only confusing, but it can leave many leaders throwing their hands up in frustration. Today's workforce is unique in our history. For the first time, we have four, sometimes five generations working side-by-side, and the result for both them and those leading these multi-generational teams can be a major frustration. But have we even bothered to stop and ask ourselves, what are the stories we tell about these other generations? What's the answer? Stay tuned because our guest is Dr. Tim Elmore. Dr. Tim Elmore is the founder and CEO of Growing Leaders, an Atlanta‐based non‐profit organization created to develop emerging leaders. His work grew out of 20 years of serving alongside John C. Maxwell. However, Dr. Tim Elmore has appeared in The Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post, USA Today, and Psychology Today, and he's been featured on CNN's Headline News and Fox and Friends to talk about leading multiple generations in the marketplace. The man is a machine in that he has written over 35 books. Dr. Tim Elmore has spoken to over 500,000 leaders in businesses, universities, athletic teams, and non-profit organizations, including The Home Depot, Coca-Cola, American Eagle and Chick-Fil-A as well as the San Francisco. We are more powerful if we work together despite our differences. Leadership is about fostering equity and inclusion, not dominance and power at the expense of others. A leader can unify a diverse workforce into a single, powerful and thriving organization by practicing better leadership and becoming the team's force multiplier. In this episode of Fifth Dimensional Leadership, I interview Bonita Stewart and Jacqueline Adams, authors of A Blessing: Women of Color Teaming Up to Lead, Empower and Thrive. In our conversation, Bonita and Jackie talk about empowering people of color in the workforce and improving leadership through authenticity, innovation, and inclusion. Bonita C. Stewart joined Google in 2006. Her career spans three decades leading multi-billion dollar operations, accelerating the adoption of digital technology and driving business transformation for large corporations in the computer, automotive and technology fields. Currently, Bonita is the Board Partner for Gradient Ventures, Google's venture fund focused on early-stage AI companies. Previously, she served as VP of Global Partnerships, overseeing the largest U.S. publishers across media/entertainment, news/publishing, mobile apps, search, and commerce. Widely hailed for her leadership, in 2014, Crain's named her a Woman to Watch in Tech. Jacqueline Adams launched a second career as a communications strategist after more than two decades as an Emmy Award-winning CBS News correspondent and was the first female African American White House Correspondent for the network. Through her boutique consulting firm, J Adams: Strategic Communications, LLC, she counsels various corporate and non-profit clients. She has had multi-year engagements with the global communications strategy firm Burson-Marsteller and the Ford Foundation. She serves as a senior advisor to the new payment platform for publishers, NICKLPass, and she has a major role in the training program for rising star managers of color, The Diverse Future. Things you will also learn in this episode: Why “Generational Diversity” is so essential now What “The Great Migration 2.0” means What it means to move from “IQ to EQ to CQ” How the “Force Multiplier Effect” enriches our workforce What it means to be an “Only” Quotes: Bonita Stewart: “Everyone deserves a great manager, no exceptions! And women of color deserve camaraderie.” “Companies need leaders who are good with people, now more than ever.” “We're bringing data to this conversation because we know there's a level of innovation that women of color can bring to the workplace that's just been hidden or undervalued.” Jackie Adams: “A force multiplier improves the ability of an entity to achieve its goals and to exceed expectations.” “We not only have to talk to ourselves and team up but also engage our allies.” “Look for possibilities. Look for promise, not perfection.” “We are driving for progress, and the managers have a choice to transform or lag behind, but those who transform will eventually see increases in profitability and productivity.” Resources Follow Bonita Stewart on Social Media Bonita on LinkedIn Bonita on Twitter Follow Jacqueline Adams on Social Media Jackie on LinkedIn Other Resources A Blessing: Women of Color Teaming Up to Lead, Empower and Thrive Lead, Empower, Thrive Website His Name Is George Floyd: One Man's Life and the Struggle for Racial Justice, by Toluse Olorunnipa and Robert Samuels Milken Center for Advancing the American Dream
In today's episode we are joined by Terry Coutsolioutsos, Senior Vice President of Sales Operations, Marketing, and Communications at Siemens Healthineers. We discuss how the “experience economy” has become so critical for business, yet the life sciences industry still struggles to meet the needs of both their customers and employees. Tune in to learn how these companies can use data and analytics, and the right mindset, to adapt quickly. IN THIS EPISODE: [2:50] Why has the “experience economy” become so important, not just for MedTech but for the success of every business? [5:28] What are the current trends in the experience economy? [9:03] The key customer experience changes that must be made by Med Tech companies. [11:25] How do organizations adapt to the generational differences in its workforce? How do they keep these different generations engaged? [14:43] The role played by data and insights in driving both customer and employee experiences. [17:39] The challenges organizations face in collecting, analyzing and using data to drive experiences. [19:50] How must leaders adapt in this environment? Does there need to be a change in their mindset? KEY TAKEAWAYS The internal and external work environment has changed drastically, driven by key areas: generational demographic shifts, Covid which has made our virtual worlds come alive, and rapidly changing buyer and employee preferences. Business demands and needs are shifting. Commercial teams need to have the data to understand the market and organizational performance. Customer and employee experiences need to be measured and addressed, because implications are significant. Today's organization needs to have a transformation mindset. Specifically, about how to adapt to environmental and market changes and how to empower teams to adapt to the external changes around them. Today's episode features an encore presentation of a talk that originally aired in 2019 during the first Annual Belonging at Work Summit. This interview was recorded in a world that has long ago gone away; however, some of the challenges that existed then with regard to managing generational diversity, still remain stubbornly the same. What you're about to hear, is a speaker who will underscore the importance of unlocking the power of working on multigenerational teams, and the challenges that every manager has with making this mix of employees work well together, and that speaker is Laurie Battaglia. Laurie is the CEO and Workplace Strategist of Aligned at Work®, and she works with companies who understand that their leaders are the ones who create a healthy, human-centered environment where they and their teams thrive. During our conversation, Laurie reminds us that there are five distinct generations in the workplace including Traditionalists, Baby Boomers, Generation X, Millennials, and Zoomers. She also recognizes the distinct challenges people managers endure when leading multigenerational teams. She reminds us that when we fundamentally can't relate to someone because they are so much younger or older than ourselves, it's hard to see things from their perspective. As a result, we can resort to using harmful stereotypes and blame solvable problems on one another instead of working to understand the differences that distance us. To unlock the powerful potential of multigenerational teams, Laurie offers 3 core strategies to manage generational diversity at work: 1. Openly Communicate. Encourage your teams to openly communicate and respect the reality that different generations may prefer one communication & working style over another, and that your team will need to find a middle ground.2. Respect boundaries. A wider representation of age groups at work has introduced new generational beliefs and values at work. This reality underscores the importance of respecting the varied generational beliefs and values, while upholding your team's set of established boundaries and values. 3. Don't play favorites. During team meetings, build opportunities for ALL voices and perspectives to be considered, regardless of someone's age, title, or level of seniority. You can achieve this by creating an inclusive decision-making process that encourages open dialogue and psychological safety. Savor this insightful talk, and if you like what Laurie has to share, consider joining the Belonging Membership Community, where you'll have a chance to learn more about generational diversity from speakers just like Laurie. You can also connect with other DEI professionals ready to support you as you advance your DEI goals: www.belongingmembershipcommunity.com.Visit www.imaginebelongingatwork.com for more details on how you can share your feedback!! She is one of these people who believes that "life is a matter of synchronicity, and a matter of synergy and a matter of connections." and that "What is meant for you will always find you. We should be thankful for all these closed doors because they protect us from things that are not meant for us." She also says that "one of the benefits of going with the flow and jumping into things without giving too much thought is you don't really need a plan to define your success or a lack of success. The more fluid you are, and to a certain extent you have to have a goal in mind, the less likely you will experience setbacks that mess up this plan." Rachele was born and raised in Italy, studied journalism in the US, and spent her professional life between Europe, the US, and Asia. After graduation, Rachele became an anchor for CFN-CNBN in Italy. But then she decided to go back to the US to pursue her master's degree and was waiting tables in two restaurants to support herself. This is where she connected with Universum, a global employer branding agency, and landed one of their projects, which transitioned to full-time employment. This is how she dived into and later spearheaded the employer branding movement globally, advocating for organizations and governments to incorporate an employer branding strategy into their workforce planning. After a very successful 16 years career at Universum, where she was Chief Strategy Officer, Rachele decided to pursue her real passion: bridging the generational divide. At that time, McGraw Hill offered her a publishing contract. In 4 months, during Singapore's Covid-19 Circuit Breaker with three kids under five and while serving her six-month notice, she wrote: "Reframing Generational Stereotypes" (which has since become a best-seller). She started XYZ@Work to help organizations adapt to the needs of the new generations, foster a culture of intergenerational collaboration, harmonize their multigenerational workforce and empower future leaders to drive positive change. Listen to her full story of transition from journalism and TV anchor to becoming a leading expert on generational diversity, a global thought leader, and public speaker on multigenerational workforce dynamics, the future of work, and employer branding. Happy listening!

Contractor Success Map with Randal DeHart | Contractor Bookkeeping And Accounting Services
This Podcast Is Episode Number 456, And It's About Managing Generational Diversity In Construction Workplace Every manager has habits that make them effective. Managing contractors doesn't just mean scheduling them and making sure they're progressing on the project, but also knowing how to address workplace matters proactively - for one, the growing generational differences among their peers to communicate effectively and boost productivity. These days, it's inevitable that a diverse group of older and younger workers cross paths in the construction industry. After all, the young, tech-savvy, socially conscious Gen Y (Millennials) and Gen Z are currently the largest living generation in the U.S., navigating the workforce in record numbers. And the boomers may be retirement age, but that doesn't mean they're ready to stop working. Many baby boomers choose to enjoy "encore careers" – jobs that allow them to continue applying their skills and experience to personally meaningful projects. Here are a few ways to help these two groups work together so your construction business benefits from their unique and complementary skills. Baby boomers and millennials in the construction business Millennials offer incredible potential to the companies they work for. Young, tech-savvy, and interested in making a difference globally, Gen Y only lacks one key trait: experience. On the other hand, Boomers know how the business world works, and many enjoy sharing their knowledge with younger colleagues. However, unlike millennials, they may be "stuck" doing things less efficiently simply because they don't adapt quickly to new technologies. With their distinctive skill sets, pairing up a young worker with an older employee can be mutually rewarding – and highly beneficial – if you know how to manage the relationship. Partners – not proteges Trust is the foundation of every good working relationship. Building trust among your younger and older workers can mean establishing a very different work dynamic than your more former employees may be used to. To keep clear of tension, avoid creating hierarchies at work. No one is the boss; everyone is there to exchange knowledge and experience. Even in a mentor-mentee relationship, each person must see themselves as equal. That way, when someone doesn't know something, there's no reason to feel embarrassed. Communication is key Being digital natives, Millennials may prefer communicating with tweets, texts, and instant messages; Boomers, on the other hand, will likely make a phone call or send an email. Moreover, older generations may use a more formal approach to communicating at work, particularly with management. They may interpret a more casual communication style – common among their Gen Y peers – as a lack of respect. You can help bridge gaps in communication with weekly staff meetings. You might even consider creating a communication policy: group emails for urgent matters that affect everyone and the communicator's preferred form of communication for other issues. Successful Construction Companies' Employees Produce Results Excellent contractors understand quality, scope, and time regardless of generational differences. They are willing to work efficiently. When you have a Business Strategy, everything changes your life and your construction company because you will see everything differently. Your thinking patterns and what you think about the most are why you are where you are now. It is worth noting that there is no profit in chaos, and the sooner you understand that the better off you will be, including your mental and physical health. It may be too late to recoup past losses from chaos, but it is not too late to stop it from happening again. To begin with, get a clear understanding of What Ten Minutes Costs Your Contracting Company and start implementing a Business Strategy to eliminate chaos. Final thoughts While you can't necessarily influence how well any two employees work together – after all, there's more to any working dynamic than generational tendencies – an awareness of how your staff works best and an attitude of flexibility can make a huge difference. Find ways to support your employees as they nurture each other's growth. When it comes to problem-solving, encourage your boomer staffers to help younger workers understand the reasons behind their decisions with examples based on their experience. Likewise, millennial staff should think about the best ways to teach their older colleagues, who are less comfortable with technology, to use a new web tool or software. With these tips in mind, you'll be on your way to nurturing the skills and talents of all your workers – and creating a harmonious atmosphere for everyone. Call 1-800-361-1770 or sharie@fasteasyaccounting.com The daily processes and transactions involved in operating a general maintenance and repair contracting business can mean long hours of repetitive tasks and occasional oversights due to human nature. These days, you can use technology to take care of almost any issue facing your business. Automating these tasks can result in significant savings in resources and eliminate mistakes caused by human error. The key, however, is to know which tasks should be automated and which ones warrant staff intervention and guidance. Let's discuss some of them:

Episode Summary What is the diversity of generations in your business How do we grow Can we get out of our own way Better way vs. My Way What to do when told No Open to new ideas Challenge and Maturity Why is it important to have multiple generations for a sustainable business? We first need to look at and debunk the “the way we have always done it” mentality. If your business is not bringing in new to challenge the ways things are done, growth is not in your future. Is there a better way to do the job differently where you are uncomfortable with growth and find success? Too often, there are better ways to solve the problem, challenge respectfully and create growth.Contact your hosts:Steve Doyle:Website: https://stephendoylejr.com/LinkedIn: http://linkedin.com/in/stephendoylejrEmail: SDoyle@FocalPointCoaching.com Brad Herda:Website: https://www.vfbsolutions.com/LinkedIn: http://linkedin.com/in/brad-herdaEmail: BHerda@FocalPointCoaching.com This podcast uses the following third-party services for analysis: Chartable - https://chartable.com/privacy

Today, Debbie talks to Encore.org's Marci Alboher and Aanchal Dhar about intergenerational collaboration: how it works for them as a GenX and Millennial pair and how connecting different ages can address some of the biggest issues this country is facing right now, from pandemic loneliness to the climate crisis.Marci, Encore's Vice President of Narrative Change, is 54. Aanchal, Encore's communications strategist for Programs, is 39. The two have been collaborating for seven years in their work for this well-known nonprofit, which is partially responsible for the midlife reinvention, anti-ageism movement.Encore originally focussed on the second half of life. More recently the group has turned to a focus on bridging divides and connecting generations to create a better future. That's a big goal. Encore calls it a movement. So Debbie asks Marci and Aanchal, in turn, why it's so important to bring together different generations - in the workplace, in schools, in communities. The answer: it creates value. Younger people bring a fresh perspective, seeing things for the first time. Older people have lived through crises and challenges and they bring a different lived experience. Together they can solve big problems. They also talk about "perennials," a term Debbie loves. It means people with a mindset of being hungry and curious and always wanting to learn regardless of age or generation. And they talk about civic community, what that means, and why [the program Aanchal started has been so important during the pandemic.Be sure to check out the links to articles Marci and Aanchal have written, as well as to Encore's many resources and programs. The generational makeup of organizations and companies are more diverse than ever. We have multi-generational workspaces, households and even families that have been shaped differently. There are children that are having their viewpoints shaped through their experiences during COVID-19, protests, technology advances and a call for more diversity. We also have our seasoned elders who went through different types of pandemics and had different experiences that shaped how they view the world. Now all these experiences are meeting at central locations but instead of learning from one another, we are distant. 130 The One About The Tools I Use Episode 130: Show Notes Scaling UP! Nation! Thank you! Why am I thanking you? Well, you're fantastic. More specifically, you have helped me with this podcast in so many ways. Here's what you do: You listen to the podcast. You get great guests for me to interview. You tell others to listen to the podcast. You give me questions to help with future episodes. And the list goes on. Today's episode is from some questions that the Nation! has asked. They are specific topics that I have brought up on the show before but needed more clarity. I created this episode to help you with some of the tools I use that help me. To be fully transparent, I have a unique opportunity and perspective to help water treatment companies and individuals. I have insight into how they can be of use for water treaters. Some of the items we are talking about today are tools I have developed and facilitated specifically for the water treatment industry. These products and services will create a commission or fee that will come back to me. Tool #1: Roth IRA A task I do that I love is meet one on one with people. A 'one to one' is where I devote a specific time to talk with someone about anything they would like to discuss. Typically, it is around goals or an issue, but I never know what topic someone will bring up. Most recently, people have been asking me about savings. Excuse the rant, but schools are not preparing people with how they need to save money for their long-term goals. Schools are not even preparing incoming students for the barrage of credit cards they will get as a new college student. The lack of knowledge and abundance of credit card debt has led many young people not to know what to do. So, by default, they do nothing, at least in the savings department. I want people to know you have to pay yourself first. Otherwise, no one else will do it for you. What do I mean by 'pay yourself first'? Get a Roth IRA. Put $100 a month into it, and you will have a great savings plan started. Many younger people I speak with tell me that "I don't want to lose access to my money." Well, with a Roth, you can take out your contributions without any penalty. I believe you cannot afford not to do this. The best time to start is today. Compound interest is a game-changer. The more time your money has, the more your money will work for you. Please talk to a financial advisor to start contributing to a Roth IRA today. Tool #2: Virtual Assistant Using a Virtual Assistant is a tool that has been a real game-changer for me. As I am sure you know, you cannot do everything. Sometimes even trying will paralyze us into doing nothing. A few years ago, a friend told me about how he uses a Virtual Assistant (VA) to help him with tasks. Honestly, as much as the idea of having somebody help me, the sense of not knowing who the person was or how to delegate work to them paralyzed me. I did nothing for several months until my friend told me how concerned he was about how stressed I was getting. His conversation lead me to hire my first VA. Since that time, I have learned not only how to delegate, but how to create effective communication between myself and my virtual staff. If this sounds like something that could help you, let me help you through my experiences. Go to www.scalinguph2o.com/va to learn how we can help. Tool #3: Calendars and Time Blocking Time management is another issue that many water treaters struggle with. I have found that most do not keep a calendar. So, my biggest tip here is to start keeping a calendar. Anytime you commit your time to something, put it in your schedule. Your calendar should be a tool that you can use to see all of your commitments. Another tip around the topic of time management is how to get non-time specific items done. For this, I use a tool called time blocking. All this means is I block an amount of time in my calendar to work on tasks. But here is the critical part, I don't do anything else while I'm working in that time block. I let people know I'm working on a time block and not to disturb me unless it is an emergency. These two tips will help you get things done. Implementing these boundaries will help you hold yourself accountable to do them. Tool #4: Audible People also ask me when I have time to read as much as I do. The truth is, I don't. I found a tool called Audible that reads to me in the car. With this tool, I'm able to get to where I need to be while reading. Two years ago, I read 65 books in a year using Audible. My grandfather told me that if I didn't take time to read, I wouldn't keep my mind open to learning when the opportunity showed itself. Reading encourages learning and keeps your brain, looking for learning opportunities. If you would like to try Audible for free, please go to www.scalinguph2o.com/audible. Tool #5: Leadership Teams I have dedicated several shows to a simple system for running your business more efficiently. Many people have asked me if I could help them adopt some of these principles in their company. I've helped other companies implement these strategies before, but I have never mentioned it on this podcast. If you think that a clear and straightforward system would help you and your company with its operations, please go to www.scalinguph2o.com/leadership to find out more. Tool #6: The Rising Tide Mastermind If you are a regular listener of the show, you have heard me talk about the Rising Tide Mastermind. Many of you have asked me about what a mastermind is. A Mastermind is a group of people who get together to: Have comradery with each other Help each other solve problems Hold each other accountable Celebrate the successes of others The Rising Tide Mastermind is a group that serves the water treatment community in all of these areas and many more. If, after listening to today's show you want to find out more about The Rising Tide Mastermind, please go to www.scalinguph2o.com/mastermind to find out more. After you fill out an application, I will talk with you to personally see if it is a good fit. I hope these tools help you get to where you are going faster. All of the tools talked about in today's show have helped me, please let me know if I can help you with anything mentioned here today. 127 The One With Tom Hutchison Episode 127: Show Notes Several months ago, I released a podcast on having multiple generations in the business (EP 104). Since that time, I have heard from several members of the Nation! who wanted to know more about how one generation transitions to another. Many of the original owners of the water treatment companies out there are retiring. So, what should a business do to transition to the next generation properly? At the last Association of Water Technologies conference, Tom Hutchison of HOH Water Technology delivered a paper on this very topic. Tom interviewed 22 business owners of multi-generational businesses and asked them questions around the transition. Tom was gracious enough to come on today’s show and share his findings with the Scaling UP! Nation! AWT Multi-Generational Businesses | DOWNLOAD! How are you different from your competition? David Velie, CEO at AMEND Ventures, joins Mike, and they discuss how to create a culture of commitment with generational drivers in their organization.
